Shaky Video during movement

Hi.
I have a video that I created (you can see it at www.spacenelson.com - follow the links to the Burn video) that is giving me fits.
After I was done with it, I moved the files from a working drive to a USB drive for storage. After a while, I needed to make a new copy of the video, so I moved the files back to the internal drive. After quite a bit of fussing around, I have the video working again in FCE.
I exported a self contained movie, and tried to burn it to DVD using toast 6.0. When I watch the video now, the areas where the camera moves, or the subject moves quickly, the video is no longer clear. I tried burning it using iDVD, but it was even worse - the shaky parts showed large 'squares', or digital distortion stuff.
Any ideas what I did, or how I could get the video to work well again?
Thanks!
G4 Quicksilver 2002 933 Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I try to summarize:
- you may use the de-interlace or the flicker filter to remove interlacing artifacts, as Ian suggests (anti-alias filter is another option to test).
- you can try Dave's suggestion: make sure the Field Dominance is Lower (Even) for your sequences and Not Set for DV captured clips.
To check/correct dominance for the input clips in the browser use List View and look at their Field Dominance field.
To check/correct dominance for the clips in the timeline instead you have to select each clip and Item Properties (cmd-9).
Corrections are possible using the contextual menu over the field value.
- as Ian suggests, when the target support is a DVD, it's better to check results during editing on interlaced monitor (TV) connected through firewire + A/D converter/camera.
- to burn with iDVD you must Export/QuickTime Movie (not: Using QuickTime Conversion).
I hope this clarifies
Piero

  • Shaky video during playback

I have some HD video I shot with my Cannon T1I that I converted to AIC files using MPEG Streamclip. After doing some editing in FCE, I used quicktime to view the files. During playback of the footage I noticed the footage was shaking quit bad, which made it hard to view. I've done this process before without the shaking, so I'm not sure what happened.
I converted the files to AIC files and used 29.97 fps.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,

I wonder if this the case as I had the resolution qualities mazes out. I'll watch them again in full screen mode and my tv to compare.
I do have perian installed. Not sure if I've updated it since snow leoppard.
    Thanks guys!!

  • Error during movie encoding - tried all the common things, any suggestions?

HI, Attempting to burn a DVD from iDVD 7.11
I'm getting the "Encoding Error: There was an error during movie encoding" dialogue at the end of an attempted burn. Tried several times and many of the suggestions already on the forum
I have "shared" the movie from iMovie. When it first opens iDVD I have to change the default setting of "best Performance" to "Professional Quality" and the video mode to PAL (I'm in Australia). I change it both in the preferences pane (a change which seems to be ignored when I restart the program) and in the project info.
    - I'm trying just to make a disc image, but haven't got past this first step to getting it to DVD...
    - There is only the movie in my project (I've not added audio or pics in iDVD)
    - I've used the "Modern" theme and deleted the default drop zones and menu audio,
    - I've checked the chapter markers are not at the start of the movie or near any transitions,
    - There are no special characters in the titles,
    - All titles and menus are within the TV safe zone,
    - I've deleted the com.apple.iMovie.plst files and emptied trash,
    - I've tried deleting encoded assets,
    - Repaired permissions, restarted the computer, checked for updated software,
    - (tried a "safe boot" as someone suggested somewhere, but the program couldn't find the movie or audio files),
    - I have 660GB free on the main hard drive,
    - I've disconnected external drives,
    - no error appear in map view,
    - I preview the project and all appears fine,
The original footage was filmed for me. I was given a DVD which I ripped into an MP4, import into iMovie, edited the audio, added AIFF audio, added a jpeg image and 2 transitions. (Unfortunately the audio on the original I was given is unusable, else I could just copy the DVD I was given.)
So if anyone has further suggestions as to what might resolve this issue, please let me know!

Thanks for your post F, much appreciated
The project is 123 minutes, 4.16GB and it's being broadcast on TV, so I need max quality I can get (without spending money!)
I think I have sort of solved the problem - addressing what you've identified in a slightly different way.
Since my previous post, I noticed that clicking on the "Media" tab in the side pane, and selecting "Movies", my project was listed, but when I clicked on it, rather than the thumbnail I get on other movies I've processed, I got this text:
"This iMovie project can't be used because it hasn't been prepared for sharing yet. To prepare it for sharing, open it in iMovie and choose Share > Media Browser.... "
I did that (7 hours processing) then successfully created the disc image (2 hours processing). I have now burnt the DVD using disc utility (1 hour processing). It plays OK on the computer, but I'll need to check it on a normal player before marking this as thread solved (I don't have one here at home).
Unfortunately somewhere in all this processing the video has significantly lost quality. I thought I'd used all the highest quality setting, but will have to go back and check each step again. Unless someone reading this post has noticed anything I've done so far that would compromise video quality. The audio is fine - which for this project is the most important aspect.
So in regard to my initial problem; it seems there is a problem in iDVD not recognising/remembering the set preferences when using the "Share > iDVD " function in iMovie.
To summarise my solution for anyone else who experiences the same issue,
When sending a project from iMovie using "Share > iDVD " it seems you must also choose "Share > Media Browser.... "
This may be specific only to the case where PAL is required.
    PS
I should also note, incase it made any difference, that I found the default headings in the chapter menus had dashes in them (i.e. it defaults to "Scenes 1 - 6", so I changed to "Scenes 1 to 6"). The only other modification I made since my original post was using stills instead of moving thumbnails for the chapter selection.

  • "Error during movie encoding" help pls?

    Hi,
sorry if this is a repost but i have looked through all the other threads taken on board all the advice and still coming to the same result. im hoping there is someone who can help? its driving me a bit mad tbh
    this is where im at:
    - have 63gb of free disc space
    - have repaired disc permissions
    - no errors on map image page
    - all files work in quicktime and itunes
    - all MP4 (h.264, mp3 audio, 16:9) coversion done in mpeg streamclip
    - does not exceed the space allowance in 'project info'
    - have tried moving the iDVD pref file to the desktop (with app closed)
    - Tried 'deleting encoded assets'
    - cleaned dvds.
    - iDVD version 7.0.4
    - disabled chapter markers
    - using verbatim DVD-R discs
    - tried slower burn speeds (x4)
    - tried burning a disk image as well as straight to disc
keep on getting the same issue "error during movie encoding"
    can anybody help?
    thanks in advance
    c

You've tried all the things we usually suggest.
all MP4 (h.264, mp3 audio, 16:9) coversion done in mpeg streamclip
I suspect something is wrong with this conversion. What was the original video source?

  • GRRR!  "There was an error during movie encoding"

I can't seem to compile and burn a DVD to save my life with iDVD.  I have a video that I created and exported using iMovie and two shorter ones created in Photoshop CS6 — all three are the same encoding:  1920 x 1080, H.264, AAC, Color profile: HD (1-1-1).  The one exported with iMovie is a .mov file and the other two are .mp4 files — none of them with any sort of copyright/permissions protection on them.
iDVD previews them all just fine, but EVERY SINGLE TIME I go to try and burn a DVD it gives me the above error message, "Encoding Video: There was an error during movie encoding" which tells me absolutely nothing.  This might not stress me out so much if it were just a personal project, but rather it's for a friend's wedding that I shot and iDVD's failure to do a basic thing like encode video is really ticking me off.
I tried to localize the issue by trying to burn just the .mov file and then just one of the .m4v files — and have found it chokes on m4v files.  Why is this so??
If I'm doing something wrong, the error message should give me a little more feedback than just "oh there was an error."

    Hi
We are only Users - trying to help other users - rarely Apple or program developer drop in for a look so I would send feedback here
    • www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
BUT as Apple discarded the product in all - can not even be bought any more - any further development is most certainly never to be.
But what You feed iDVD matters and - You and so many more has the idea that .mov or .m4v etc are movie formats/codecs - they are not - only containers - so to figure out what You give iDVD You need to find what's in them. I do like this
    • Open them in QuickTime Player
    • here open Inspector [cmd+I]
    • read - Video Format/Codec: nnnnnnn
What does it say and in what frame rate (fps) ?
iDVD can only do good (very good) DVDs when feed
    25 or 29.97 fps
    interlaced SD-Video
So by feeding it 1920x1080 24fps - to make a NTSC (29.97fps) DVD - result will be very BAD. Conversion is of need. I use following programs to do this
    • Frame Rate - JES_Deinterlacer
    • MPEG Streamclip
    • QuickTime 7.6 + Pro-upgrade

  • I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Pro

I have Video camera movies that are HD format.. I am doing editing work on them using Final Cut Pro, but using DV PAL format for the projects I am editing. When I then tried to copy my work done in FCP Project that's originally DV PAL , into a new FCP Project that is HD, and tried reconnect media with original HD movies (video), the sequence project got distorted for all the text, shapes used and all.. everything changed its orientation and scale.. Is there a way by which I can preserve my work done on DV PAL and switch it preserving its proportions, scale and orientation, but on a HD project sequence?? Appreciate your help and advice..

Yes.  A couple of ways that might work.
    First Way
What you need to do is load one of your hd clips in the viewer and edit into a new HD sequence.  Does it display correctionly?
OK, select the clip in the hd timeline and copy (command-c).  Now go to the HD sequence with the material that's distorted.  Select all (command-a) and paste attributes (option-v) and choose basic motion and distort.  That should maek things work.  What won't work is anything that you've adjusted as far as basic motion or distort in your PAL sequence.  That I'm pretty sure you'll have to redo.
    Second Way.
Choose your original PAL sequence and do a Media Manage changing the sequence preset to the appropriate HD paramenters with the media offline.  You then should be able to reconnect these clips with your original HD media.

  • How can I convert Music Videos or Movies to play in iTunes ?

I am trying to find a good Program that can convert alot of these so I can import then into iTunes . I do not have Quick Time installed on my computer , to see if they will play on Quick Time. • ITunes 7.6 No Audio When Playing a Music Video or Movie

I just installed iTunes 7.6.0.29 (It was released today).
There is no audio when playing a music video or a movie that I've purchased. Movie trailers and music videos in the iTunes store have no audio either. Videos from iTunes University that I've downloaded (such as an MIT lecture) play fine w/ audio.
Music audio (such as tracks I've purchased or tracks on the iTunes store) play fine.
QuickTime videos, such as a QT video on my desktop play fine. Windows Media Player works fine too.
So, why don't music videos and movies play (w/audio) on iTunes 7.6??

I'm experiencing what appears to be the exact same issue. I just installed iTunes 7.6.
    Video but no audio:
    Purchased iTunes TV episodes
Streamed video trailers in the iTunes Store
    Works fine:
All music files, including protected files purchased through iTunes
The standalone Quicktime player performs normally with MOV files. Windows Media Player still performs normally.
I found an old support doc complaining of a similar issue with a previous iTunes release and tried the suggested fix: Uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling it using the standalone installer (Quicktime 7.4). I also reinstalled iTunes. Neither solved the issue.
I'm very disappointed that I can no longer access the files I've purchased. I hope this is fixed very soon.

  • How to install videos and movies on to i touch

i am not able to get any video files on to my i touch.it is giving a message that this format cant be played on your i pod.how to install videos and movies on to my i touch

Videos must be in a format that iTunes and the iPod can accept. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2729?viewlocale=en_US
If your videos are not on the appropriate format, you'll have to convert them. Search this forum for "video convert" and you should find a number of threads about converting videos for use with an iPod.

    video transfer from computer
Video transfer from computer to new ipad (ret disp) shows transfering process, but it's not in video or movie  . ...Where'd it go ? sync automatically downloaded some -  but was a bit prejudiced and selective with content mainly all edited by me in Moviemaker (windows 7, probably the reason)
I use technology since neanderthals roamed the planet . ....don't quite understand  all the nuances  . .. .So, my all things "i" (apple/mac) guru has arranged a meeting,    and I'm impatient.  I know some of my videos are in several formats, etc... and I don't quite understand the differences . ...to me, it's complicated, as Alec Baldwin would say.
Unfortunately, I'm "late" to the game metaphoricaly ( windows vs apple/mac ). I have a couple ipods and actually endorse the ijet remote device (Co. from San Diego). I have pro tools and other hi tech gear in the pro keyboards/sequencing arena where I've been writing computer music since 80's and it's evolution.

The Apple video app is very limited in what it will play. If you have multiple video formats and if they will play on an iPad, then you likely need a 3rd party vidoe app. One such is BUZZPlayer which is available in the iTunes App Store on a Mac or PC or from the App Store app on an iOS device.
You transfer the videos to 3rd party video apps using iOS File Sharing.

iTunes Videos (Both Movies and TV Shows) are skipping/ studdering.
These videos were taken from my hard drive, converted with Format Factory, then placed in itunes.
ON ipad the videos playback perfectly, but in itunes itself it fails drastically.
Same problem happens with quicktime. If i open these videos up with quicktime, it studders and skips, while if i open it with VLC, it works fine.
I have already disabled 3d acceleration, which helped a very small bit.
The Rest of itunes runs smoothly, just video playback is screwed
    Specs:

    6 gb ddr3 ram
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    Itunes 10.5.1
    Quicktime 7.7.1

    Update
It turns out that the reason for not playing TV shows and movies is not the network.
Something happened with the files while copying them from the Macbook to the NAS station.
I noticed that after copying a TV show from the NAS Station back onto the Macbook Air drive; it was not possible to import that file into iTunes. iTunes ignored importing that file.
On the other side the TV shows will be played by Quicktime, either from the NAS station or from the Macbook.
It might be important to mention that the NAS station is not OSX formatted.
Does someone know what happened ?
