Shall I restore as a new iPad then sync from iCloud?
I've been having a frustrating few days trying to get music, photos, books ey to sync after the software updates with absolutely no joy. Been getting loads of different messages via iTunes from stopped waiting for sync to start, to sync cancelled. My iPad does have nearly 1gb of yellow other content and I'm wondering whether to restore as a new iPad to get rid of this. My question is, if I do this and then can successfully sync, if I then back up from the cloud will my settings revert to including the yellow mystery content? Any views appreciated: it's becoming a real pain to manually load apps from the cloud one one by one after each unsuccessful restore and sync. ITunes is running on Vista and it's an ipad1. Please help.
Suggest you do this:
1. Backup iPad to iTunes or iCloud
2. Restore iPad to Factory Default (setup as new)
3. Update to IOS 8
4. Restore backup from iTunes or iCloud
Note: This way you get a clean install

If lost Ipad is wiped, can new Ipad recover data from iCloud
I lost my Ipad while traveling a couple of days ago. I have it password protected and have 'find my lost ipad' active on it but it hasn't shown up yet.
I reported it but probably don't have any chance of recovering it. If I select 'Erase Ipad' in find my lost ipad to protect my personal information, when I buy a new Ipad will I still be able to recover my exising data from iCloud ?
Thanks for the help. You should. Erasing the wayward iPad will not delete the back up you have in iCloud, not should it delete iCloud synched items like your contacts and iwork documents.

I set up my new iPad, then deleted the Pages documents on my old iPad, but this had the effect of deleting them on my new iPad too because they are synced. How do I retrieve the deleted documents?
Sorry no. That's how it works.
Check if you still have an old backup and do a restore otherwise it's gone. -
I backed up my ipad to the cloud as it had a broken screen so I swaped it out for a new one and now I cant restore because the new Ipad has IOS 6 and my back up is 6.1! This is what I get for buying an Ipad twice in a week because of a broken screen? $500 the first buy and then another $299 plus tax for the swaped out one that I can't restore with my backup data.
I assume that you will have to set up as new since it will not let you restore from the backup. Then after you set it up, you can restore from the iCloud backup. The backup should not disappear be use you are setting this device up as new. Your backup should still be in iCloud.
However, after you activate the iPd and update the software, you will have to erase the device in order to restore from the Cloud backup, that is the only way to get to the iCloud backup.

My new iPad is synced with iTunes but now it won't recognize my iPod nano. How do I get it to recognize both? iTunes synced with my Nano just fine until I added the iPad.

I have recently had my MacBook Pro and iPad stolen so I have bought a new iPad, since syncing to my existing Apple ID account I keep getting another Apple ID popping up asking for the password. Does this mean that the owner of this appe ID have my stuff?
You should change your AppleID password NOW. And if it says it was registered under another AppleID, the thief has probably done it.

My wife has a new Ipad and Iphone with icloud. We also have a Imac that has not been upgraded yet that is somehow syncing with her ipad and screwing up the apps. Is there anyway to prevent this. Maybe it is thru mobilme?
I think iCloud isn't coming until this fall and not until iOS 5 is publicly available. Right now there is confusion because all this stuff is still in beta and things are under NDA and may still change.
I'd just set the 3GS up the same as currently. When iOS 5 is available in the fall (and I don't think Apple has specified beyond "fall"), before you update, there should be any number of guides to setting things up and how it will all work. http://macworld.com is a good place to look for such information. -
My contacts on my old Iphone I gave a family member were deleted then synced to icloud. My current iphone lost all its contacts when it next synced. I retreived a 6mth old backup to get my contacts, but I want my recent messages back, any help?
The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts. Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone. -
have an iPad 2. It synced all my information from my Android to the ipad. I cannot get my calender on my ipad to sync with iCloud. Can anyone help?
Okay, this is interesting, because I was under the impression that FOR IOS DEVICES, contacts are NOT included in a backup, since they are already on icloud (in the contact database). And since you erased the contacts, then they are gone for good. One recommendation I've read about is, assuming you have a computer like a Mac also connected to the same icloud account, you can get the contacts back from a backup of the computer, like Time Machine. However, I don't know where you'd look for that file or files (even though the contacts are stored centrally on icloud, I'm guessing they are also stored locally in a cache file).
I think another suggestion made here (IIRC) is to turn off syncing of contacts (on the device), then do a restore. Since there's no sync, icloud's empty contact database will not overwrite the local contacts on the deviced. Again, I may not be remembering correctly. Some of these older posts about this same problem were some time ago.
I'd welcome anyone who really knows the details on this to add to the discussion here. This is an issue faced by many posters. -
I had to restore my iphone 5 from an icloud backup from a week ago. everything restored fine, but it only brought back my imessages up to the backup date (a week ago); but all the messages up to today are on my mac messages app on my macbook air; how can i get them all back on my phone? why isnt it syncing from icloud automatically if its still available on my mac? Thanks for any help!
iCloud doesn't sync iMessages. They are sent from the iMessage server to your devices, not synced between devices. I don't think you'll be able to get these messages back on your phone, but you should be receiving any new messages.

A new database is available from iCloud
What does this message mean and should I update to the newest database? HJZ
I am experiencing a similiar problem. Nearly every time I open my Runmeter app on my iPhone I get the message "iCloud update. A new database is available from iCloud." I now have more than 20 different databases, each with my name followed by a serial number as Harry described.
Details:
App: Runmeter Elite version 10.3.6 (14824) by Abvio Inc.
Device: iPhone 5 model ME486LL/A
Operating System: iOS 8.1.2
Carrier: T-Mobile 18.1
Firmware: 7.03.00
Anyone have any suggestions? -
It then asks me to Set Up iPad and I choose "Restore from iTunes Backup" It completes the synch according to iTunes. but the iPad screen just shows connected to iTunes. When I eject from iTunes, the iPad still shows Connect to iTunes. No matter what I do it still shows "iPad Not Set Up" What is Up?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
