Shanghai, China?

I ordered the new V-iPod (30GB) last week (should be here Wednesday)...
This is the first time I've ordered from Apple and had the tracking start in Shanghai, China!!

OMG!!! China!!!! The world is going to the crapper in a handbasket!!!!!
I cant believe someone doenst know there is an international comunity where most of their daily products come from. Look at any product most likely its gonna be from outside the USA. I mean really who would think that the ipod was completely manufactured in the USA. Oh my if you shop at wal-roos your amost gaurantted to be buying stuff never made in the USA. you might even be surprised to see that those that respond on these discusion boards arent from the USA. Doesnt mean their odd in a way their actually all great people. No need for surprise on where your product comes from jsut as long as you completely enjoy it. =)
GFF
(I know that the surprise was where the shipping was from not that the ipod was made in china ...just having fun.)

  • Can I use my IPad2 in Shanghai China

We are traveling to Shanghai China in late November. We purchased an AT&T IPad2 32GB 3G to aid in reducing luggage weight and bulk. We will be there from November 20th to March end. We discussed this trip with the Apple sales person and he suggested the AT&T version because it uses GSM and we can replace the Sym card with a Chinese version through GSM distributors in Shanghai. However, we have not read any information from Americans in China regarding whether the IPad2 can actually function in China. Does anyone have information regarding this subject ?
    Thankyou

If you are planning on taking a lot pictures,I'd suggest buying a camera connection kit. That way every night you can download pics into your iPad. That way you can clear your camera memory . I would also e-mail your pictures to your home computer.
Good Luck, and have a great trip.

It's not clear what you mean. Do you mean you can't place a call to anyone outside of Shangai? That would be an issue with the calling plan you have with your carrier. Contact them. Likewise, if you can not place a call when you are outside your coverage area, that is also a carrier issue. If you are trying to use a different carrier while travelling, it's possible your phone is carrier locked and you can not use the carrier you are trying to use.

  • DVD for Shanghai China?

I want to burn a widescreen DVD from NTSC DV material for playback in Shanghai China. Can I just send a regular NTSC Standard DVD? I have FCP 4.5 and DVDSP2.
Do I need to convert my DV timeline to PAL, then export to Compressor, then export to DVD Studio Pro 2 in PAL? What is the thread?
    Thanks!

If the person you are sending it to has a NTSC Player and Television (many people otuside the U.S. have set ups which can play NTSC as compared to people in the U.S. where there is limited PAL)
You would need to make a PAL project and use PAL assets (m2vs and graphics), there are a few ways to convert things, including Plug-Ins in Final Cut, to conversions in Compressor and quality of the conversions vary.
A good plugin for Final Cut with good results is

  • MBP i7 shipping from Shanghai, China!?

I finally got a FedEx notice that my 15" MBP just shipped... from Shanghai, China. Why does this give me pause? I'm sure that's the origin of all Apple products anyway, but I guess I'm worried that there is a level of QA-check that will be missing.
It's probably nothing, but in the past I'd always bought from an Apple store. Was quite surprised to see "Shanghai, China" on the FedEx departure location. That's quite a long (and I'm sure rough) journey.
    Keeping fingers crossed...

You're right, of course, and I think most Americans are aware (especially those who've lost their US-based manufacturing jobs over the years) that pretty much everything is manufactured overseas... or north/south of the border.
There are still some complete machines still assembled in the US. It's getting rare though.
However, that's not really my issue. I have this crazy notion that products bought from the Apple stores undergo one final check for possible shipping damage or manufacturing defects before being sold. I'm sure that's a false assumption, but it gives me a warm fuzzy nonetheless.
Highly unlikely. Everything comes complete from the factory sealed and ready for sale. The packaging contains everything needed. They won't even think of turning anything on, because most people want their machines to initially fire up just like it came from the factory. All the booklets, packaged accessories, and discs are packed at the final assembly point, and they're primarily produced by local manufacturers.
Apple's subcontractors are established Taiwanese manufacturers like Foxconn, Quanta, and Acer. Personally I think their manufacturing standards were slightly higher when their primary assembly was in Taiwan, but those days are primarily over. They do maintain their own QC personnel at these newer factories in mainland China, and in general the quality is pretty high. Definitely better than most PRC only manufacturing facilities.

  • Connectivity between Shanghai, China and Europe (Switzerland)

Anyone has a similar regional business network where servers are based in Europe (in my case Switzerland) and client machines are located in China? It's been a chronic issue that connectivity between such China-based clients and Switzerland Servers can be randomly intermittent (data loss as high as 10-40%) while connectivity to ISPs at each side remains consistent. We have similar setup in other Asia offices like Singapore as well but face no such issues in terms of connectivity to Switzerland servers. I'm beginning to think is it because of the China ISP, but up till now cannot gather any supporting evidence. Each time the intermittency occurs, a restart of Shanghai's internet router will once again resume normal and consistent connectivity to the Swiss servers.

Replacement phones can be new or refurbished at Apple's discretion. Generally, they will be refurbished. A refurbished phone is indistinguishable from new. It has been returned to factory spec, and, as I understand it, has a new battery and casing.
All iPhone 5's have both GSM and CDMA chips. However, in order to work on a given CDMA network, the phone needs to have been added to that providers database. What that means on the consumer end is, essentially, if you want a phone to work on a CDMA provider's network, you have to buy it from them (or someone who did).

  • When will the new Macbook Air be available in Shanghai, China?

The website says that it is still going through some kind of regulations approval.  Will Apple Stores have it in stock earlier?

Notice that you can't order it.  The red text at the bottom says that they can't ship until they get agency approvals.  Common problem in China, and the wait time varies, but I was wondering if anyone here had any information that would provide an estimate on when the ordering would be activated.

  • I ordered IPod touch 5 and it is shipping. Currently located in shanghai, china. How long until I can expect it in the USA (WI)?

Okay, so after waiting, which I had anticipated, my I Pod touch 5 is in shipping. Currently it's in Shanghai, CN.
I'm wondering how long it will take to reach the USA (WI) if it says it's in transit today in Shanghai. It's supposed to arrive on the 26th sometime.
I thought I'd ask and see what other people's experiences have been. Sorry if this has been asked a zillion times. Thank you so much.

Thanks for your help. I figured it was right on track, but wanted to be sure.

  • I bought an IPhone 5 in the US last Jan. The bettery was tested problem at my local Apple Store in Shanghai, China. Must I send it to the store where I bought it or Can any Apple Store in the US help me repair it? Thank you.

Recently, my Iphone shuts down at 50%+ bettery. My local Apple Store told me that the bettery was tested problem and needs to be repaired or changed. Since the phone is still under a year warranty, I was suggested to return it to the US Apple Store for help. Please let me know if I can send it to any store in the US or the store where I bought. Also, I don't find the email receipt. Will it be a problem for repair? Your quick response will be very appreciated. Thank you.

One more question. Can it be down without the receipt? If yes, I will send the phone to US immediately before warranty expired. Thank you.

  • Traveling to Shanghai China

I have a MacBook Pro, and bought the World Traveler Kit so I have adapters, however do I need a voltage converter?

As Kappysaid, you don't need a voltage converter, and quite possibly you don't need a plug adapter either. I guess it depends on where you are going to stay. In most places you should find this mains outlet
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/Chinasocket.jpg>
which will accept the MagSafe adaptor's "duckhead" plug.
In almost any department store or large supermarket or even variety store you'll find 'universal' power bars or power strips which look more or less like this
and which will accept both the "duckhead" plug and the AC cord plug.
However, you may wish to travel to Hong Kong, and there you'll definitely need a plug adaptor, because they are based on the British standard

  • Updated to iOS5, now ipod says i'm in China

I updated my ipod to iOS5, and now my ipod says I'm in Shanghai, China.
    I'm in the US.
The time, weather, and twitter trend list are all set to Shanghai. I even tried the locate my ipod thing and it said my ipod is in China, lol.
I know I can set the time manually, and I did, but everything else is messed up and it's bothering me. I never had this problem before I updated to iOS5.
Anyone know how I can fix this?

The iPod gets your location from identifying your router and then checking its (Apple's) database for the location in the router.  If your router is not in its database there is nothing you can do to get it correctly entered.  Shanghai may be the default location for routers not in the database.  Apple will eventually scan your area and get your router into the database.  Try taking your ipod to a site with a public wi-fi source.  Connect to the wi-fi and see if your location works there.
