Shape tools not working

Hello. Just got a new MacBook Pro (had it for a week) and fresh install of Photoshop CS5. For some reason, I cannot draw anything on the canvas. My mouse cursor has a little black rectangle to the right of it. It stays this way when I hover over any toolbar icon.
For example, I'll click on the ellipse tool and when I move my mouse to the canvas, the cursor does not change. When I try to drag a circle on the canvas, it just shows the default rectangle outline as if I wanted to select an object (hope that makes sense).
Please help. This is driving me crazy.

We're working with Apple on correcting the issue. Best bet is to use Jesper's utility until there's an update.

Fill a closed path after shape tool not working?

I draw a shape with the paths option using the shape tool,
ive selected and highlighted a visible normal layer at full opacity in normal blend mode.
right click the path and choose fill path... I have a colour selected already,
nothing happens...?

Thanks Paulo, that was it, only the icon at bottom of paths palette works.
here`s my workflow and settings.
1. draw path.
(the subtract to path option only activated when I made this screen capture due to pressing ALT3 for my screencap shortcut).
2. right click choose"fill path.." this option doesn`t work on empty or transparent pixels.
2. continued, settings are correct, but no fill results.
3. Try a stroke first. right click fill stroke... that works.
4. seems if you fill with stroke first, then right click, and choose fill path... then the fill will work, but only where there are pre existing pixels.
5. the fill path option at bottom of path panel overcomes this problem. however it may be a bug with right clicking and filling the path on empty or transparent layer space.
I`m on CS5 anyone had same result on CS6 ?

Marquee tool and shape tool not working properly

I have Photoshop CS five, and today while working in it, the behavior of all of my tools changed.
Tools are now defaulting to “select from center” mode, which normally requires holding down the option key.
As another clue, if I create a marquee selection, as soon as I release the mouse button the Marquis tool switches to “intersect with selection” mode.
I quit Photoshop and deleted all of my Adobe Photoshop preferences, however when I relaunched Photoshop the problem was still there.
I thought maybe my option key was stuck down, but when I tried typing in stickies, characters typed normally, so my option key is not stuck in the down position.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I actually spent some time with Adobe tech support working on the problem. You are correct it was a bug; they had me update my Photoshop AND delete this file from my preferences folder: com.adobe.Photoshop.plist — those two things did the trick.

Illustrator shape tool not working properly.

Hello. I am not quite sure how to word this. Whenever I try to use the basic shapes took (ellipse, rectangle, etc), I end up with mutiple shapes. I am trying to draw a circle and instead of one circle, Illustrator creates several. Has anyone encountered this problem before? I need help ASAP.

Your Tilde key ( ~ ) is stuck, or at least Illy thinks it is. Unless you have a non US keyboard, in which case it is another key. Here are a few known keys on different other keyboards:
UK: ' (just below the @, to the left of Enter, at least in CS6),
Icelandic and German: < (just to the right of Shift),
French (only Mac): £,
Norwegian and Danish: æ (just to the right of L)
If she is wrong and it is unstuck, you may try the list to convince her.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media, see below. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:

5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Shape Builder tool not working on shapes in a clipping mask

Hello again,
Why is the Shape Builder Tool don't work on shapes inside a Clipping Mask? The Pathfinder does work but for the Shape Builder Tool: NADA!

Thank you for answering. No it will work correctly. The Pathfinder work inside a clipping path and in any situation but not the Shape Builder Tool. Unless this is normal, I think that the specialist at Adobe should have a look at this annoying behavior and try to release an upgrade with this behavior corrected in a near futur.

If you release the Clipping Mask and try the Shape Builder tool then, does it still balk at making the shape?

Creative cloud photoshop blur tool not work as it should be

creative cloud photoshop blur tool not work as it should be !
I go to blur a painting i am doing and it does not blur enough and I am using wacom Intuos 5 med pen tablet.
and I even set the tablets sensitivty for pressure lower then default and still not getting the blur tool to do its job.
I even adjusted the brush settings too to be able to blur even more on hard settings, still nothing.
at least it not bluring enough to see any major changes.
the only way i can blur anything is by using the fliters blur or the brushes ( mixer brush ) settings to mix colors and do it that way.
(note) I will not post my systems specs sorry I don't do that and even the tech from adobe said I do not have to. and so I wont !
just need advise not to share system specs.
and thats what this forums board is for getting advice and read what others say about the issue at hand.

It might be your image is too big in terms of pixel dimensions for the blur tool to work well.
If you zoom to 100% do you see any change when using the blur tool?
What are the pixel dimensions of the image?
(Image>Image Size)
If you try a small image, does the blur tool work?
What about when you use the mouse instead of your tablet?
Can you at least tell us what operating system and version of photoshop your using?

Converting WordPerfect to PDF with desktop printer tool: Not working

I have been a monthly subscriber to Adobe CreatePDF for many years! I work mainly with Correl WordPerfect, but with the change to the Pack version it is not supported. I downloaded the desktop printer tool; it is installed. However, when I follow instructions and print, I get nothing. Where does the PDF go? What can I do? Please help! I cannot continue to pay monthly if I don't get service.

I have win 7 that much I know. 2. Where can download the hotfix? 3. With adobe createpdf, I didn't need adobe ps printer setup, I don't have a laser printer at home, I have an hp inkjet printer.

Please do following
(A). If your system is Win 7 SP1 then install a hot fix to correct inetpp.dll version at C:\Windows\System32 folder.After installing the hot fix version will be 6.1.7601.21819 from 6.1.7601.17514.
Note please uninstall CreatePDF Desktop printer then reinstall after applying the hot fix
(B). If you have not installed Adobe Postscript driver yet then please install one as below:
How to Install PS printer:
1. Open Start menu > Devices and Printer ( or from control panel) and select "Add a printer"
2. Select "Add a local printer"
3. Select "Use an existing port: LPT1: (Printer port)
4. Select any company and any PS printer with Adobe PS printer driver(not clone) such as Xerox and Xerox Phaser 6120PS

CS5 Refine Edges tool not working how its suppose to

I open an image in photoshop - make a quick selection of a part of the image and then go into refine edges - Click on smart radious and when I use the brush to get a better selection that part becomes transparent - I tried seaching everywhere for an answer but noone seems to know

The videos you might have seen might simply be using images that lend themselves to the task better than your image.

Adobe XI - Hightlight text tool not working

Just downloaded adobe XI and the hightlight text tool not working. How can I get this to work.

I guess you can always use the box tool in drawing markups to draw a box around the text then play with the colors until you get close to what you want.
The only thing I don't like about that (besides it being a PITA) is that it covers the text with color as well where the highlight tool does not.

Hi,
Try to login to system info page with administrator or j2ee_admin for java and dual stack respectively to check if the password is correct.
If the password is incorrect, then check if you have any alternate admin ID. Change the administrator or j2ee_admin password, then try to login with the new password. Change the password of SDM and securestore to the new one.
If this is not the case, then check the log files in visual admin directory. Please post the same.

Help! InDesign CS6 tools not working

Hello,
I recently upgraded to CS6 on my PC and have run into some issues with InDesign. None of the tool buttons in the top ribbon or on my side menu function properly. For example, if I make a text box and wish to change the font, I can't select the font drop down menu, nor can I change the size of the type. This also happens when I create a shape and want to change size, color, line weight, line type, etc. Pages do not work either and I have had to use the bottom page navigation.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the problem did not go away. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you!

Rectangle Tool Not Working Right

I have looked around for a few days and have not been able to fix this stupid problem I have.
When I try to use the rectangle tool, I can not make a shape the size I want. As soon as I click, a rectangle pops up. I can not click and drag to make the size I want.
All of the other shape tools for fine. I have been getting by by using the rounded rectangle tool with a 0 px radius. This works fine but is really inconvenient.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I have just noticed that my rounded rectangle tool is not working properly. When I click and drag nothing is visible, when I release it floods my whole image with my selected color. I have tried all of the other tools and they work properly. I have tried restarting, compared settings with other tools, and checked for updates. Nothing is working and any help would be appreciated.
Also, I have what appears to be a common problem with my move tool. I click, drag, and drop only to have the selected image snap back to its original position. I have an intuos 5 connected, is this the culprit?

I can't help with the snap to edge problem, but if you select your rounded rectangle shape tool, and click on the Cog in the Options bar, I suspect you have a fixed size set, and that it is bigger than your canvas.
