Shapes disappear when editing anchor points (CS5)

Hello,
Some of my shapes simply disappear on mouse button release after moving anchor points or adjusting the bezier angle. The edit history does not mention any deletion; the event is registered as "move point" so I can "edit->undo move point" to have my shapes reappear.
This looks like a bug to me, but I'm quite new to Flash - I may have missed something.

Here is what they are referring to if this does not happen on everyone's then it is a common enough issue to figure out a solution but as far as I know it has always been this way, if anyone is seeing it differently we should know how they work around it so we can all benefit.
I agree if you want to draw a shape over other objects say as a clipping mask then you should not have to have a stroke which can be one distracting and two you prevent you from seeing an important small detail that might be important.
It might also be useful to be able to make this guide vary in width to mimic a stroke to see how it will effect the underlying art. I know why not just use the stroke and give it a color and transparency which is not the point the idea that you are creating art and you want to investigate you possibilities before driving yourself crazy selecting stroke colors and widths is the issue. It is more for the visual process and not finalized art and we are use to using the layer color to let use know what layer it is on so a color will only interfere.
It would be good to change this behavior and get everyone's input here of how they would like to see this drawing capability improved IMO.
I think it is a good issue to bring to the surface once again.

  • Disappearing paths and anchor points

Using a MacBook Pro with Adobe CS3, the anchor points and drawing lines have disappeared from both the outline and art views.  The lines are still visible, but none of the anchor points can be seen to edit the lines.  How do I make them visible again?

Thank you that worked.  I am not sure how this happened as it is a complex geologic map that I was not looking forward to redoing for publication.

  • Simplify adds overlapping anchor points CS5

I've been using Object > Path > Simplify to clean up artwork but have found that it can create two overlapping anchor points. This adds an extra kink to the path as each anchor point has two control handles. This seems to happen regardless of the Curve Precision or Angle Threshold settings.
    Anyone else getting this?
    (Illustrator CS5 15.0.2, Mac OS 10.6.2)
    Screenshots below:
    1. Simple circle drawn with the ellipse tool.
    2. Object > Path > Simplify... applied (Curve Precision 96%, Angle Threshold 0)
    3. The two overlapping anchor points pulled apart for illustration

Unite is very helpful (thanks Steve) and sometimes cleans up the path completely. There are still times when Simplify adds a whole bunch of points to what seems to be a clean curve. Unite then helps to clean up the mess, but there are often extra points which create kinks or loops in the path. They are easy to miss as you have to zoom right in to spot them.
Also, thanks Wade for the suggestion about cutting the path and rejoining. It’s interesting that CS4 splits the path at the problem point shown above when using Simplify so you are left with an open path. It's as if CS5 rejoins the path but doesn't get the control handles right.
Thanks for the script link, Jesseham. I must look into using scripts more to simplify routine tasks.
I've combined Simplify with Unite into an Action to speed things up. But I’m still using Simplify with caution as often it does just the opposite.

  • Bug when deleting anchor points

I think I discovered a bug. Say this is a line with anchor points:
    x---x---x---x---x---x---x
And this is what I want to achieve using the Delete Anchor Point Tool:
    x-----------x-----------x
Then this is as far as I'm actually able to get:
    x-------x---x-----------x
Because for some reason, if I delete the 2nd anchor point, the 3rd will be deleted too. I can, however, delete the 3rd without deleting the 2nd.
It is only after I've moved the 3rd further away that I'm able to delete the 2nd, but this gets tiring after a while.
    I'm using Flash CS5.5.

If you think you have discovered a bug, you should report it to Adobe.  These are user-to-user forums, so reporting it here is just telling everybody else that uses the software, which in some cases can lead to someone explaining that it is not a bug, but in any case, posting here more often than not won't get Adobe's attention.  If you want to be sure it comes to Adobe's attention use the link below...

  • Type cursor disappearing when editting code

    Hello all,
i am encountering a problem where the typing cursor disappears when im editting my code. This really is ennoying and bothers the heck out of me.
Especially when im navigating trough the code using the arrow keys - i simply can't see where i'm at in the code.
Right now i am very disapointed because it has taken me months pondering, whether or not to sign up for Creative Cloud (Student membership).
Now that i finally singed for a year's commitment, i see the code editor is virtually unusable because of the cursor-in-hiding....
Hopefully this issue will be fixed sooner than later or i will have to cancel my subscription and deny Adobe from charging my credit card for the monthly fee :-(
Has anyone else been undergoing the same problem, and maybe fixed it?
    Gr.
    Niels

That is a known issue to Adobe. Apparently, it's a defect caused by the new code highlighting behavior. You can submit an official bug report here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • Edit anchor points

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSC01D2D73-F769-4e0e-8553-F455C098F804.html

Why is it that in CS6 a layer must be selected in order to delete selected anchor points? This is not about removing anchor points with the Delete Anchor Point tool but actually deleting points with the Delete or Backspace key. If no layer is selected and even though the Direct Selection tool is used to select the points that will be removed (such that only those points are solid), the whole path is deleted. But if a layer is selected and only certain points on the path are selected, Photoshop will now delete only those selected points. What is the relationship between selecting a layer, which is pixel-based, and deleting anchor points? I have always assumed they are not connected to each other.

  • Repeatable Mac DW CS5 crash when editing anchor

    Folks:
DW C5  fully updated, on new quad-Intel Mac 10.6.4 fully updated. Registered copy.
Ref:  The code below, which is composed of single-cell table containing only an anchor and brief text inside a standard HTML 4.01 Transitional wrapper.  This file passes the W3C validator.
DW C5 crashes whenever I attempt click on the anchor icon, in Design View, or within the anchor tag in Code View.
I tried deleting cache file MacFileCache-*****.dat and entire personal configuration folder. Tried deleting preferences. Tried total re-install.  No effect, still crashes.

Thanks for your response and for trying to duplicate the problem.
I should mention that the code I posted is a cut-down of a much larger page, which happens to have been derived from a DOC file saved as HTML by OpenOffice.  The origin of the code should not be an issue unless there is something invisible in the text.   More about this below.

I tried pasting only the body code --copied from my initial post-- into a new HTML page. No improvement.  That would seem to eliminate invisible characters or text encoding strangeness.
Based on some past experience with DW CS3 with insufficiently nested code, I put the test code inside a DIV tag pair.  No improvement.
I opened a completely new document in DW CS5 and re-created the same structure. In Design View, I made a one-cell table, added brief text, and emplaced an anchor named as before.  Here is the result:

      </tr>
    </table>
    </body>
    </html>
    ------------------cut here---------------
Unless I'm missing something incredibly obvious, this is exactly the same code, with the exception of the quotes around the anchor name and the table specs (border and width).  This code passes the W3C validator.  No improvement: still crashes.
The same document is stable in DW CS3.
In sum, it seems that I can create a very simple, clearly valid html document that reliably crashes DW CS5 when the cursor is placed within the anchor definition (Code View) or the anchor icon is selected (Design View).  This following a complete de-install and re-install of DW, including trashing preferences.
Very long shot:  Is there a possibility of interaction with my DW CS3 installation which, (fortunately) I left intact?
Extremely long shot:  Will a restart cure this problem?  I'll try and post back.

  • Type disappears when editing in InDesign CC

When selecting type -- either placing the cursor in a text frame or double-/triple-clicking to select a word or line of text -- the selected text is momentarily invisible. Deselecting all makes it reappear, as does zooming in or out. However, it is difficult to edit text when you can't see it. This problem occurs randomly. I updated from CS5.5 about two weeks ago, and am running OS X Mavericks on a Mac Pro with 32 GB of memory.

In the last few days I've encountered the same disappearing type issue. Editing is now very complicated. Placing the cursor into the text box will make the line that the cursor is in disappear, then I blindly type my change, and as I begin to type, ALL the text in the text box disappears. To see the text box again, I figured out that when I scroll down the page and the "empty" block disappears at the top of my work window, I can scroll back down and the text reappears in the text box. This is most inconvenient when I have my client on the phone rapidly giving me corrections.
I'm running Maverick 10.9.2 and InDesign CC 9.2.1

  • IPhoto windows goes black (photo disappears) when editing

I recently upgraded to iPhoto 11 and was editing a photo when it disappeared. Basically, the entire iPhoto window went black and I was unable to make an edits.
When I went back to the Events page the picture was there looking normal. But I am unable to edit the photo because any time I go to make a change, the picture disappears.
I restarted iPhoto and rebuilt the database, the thumbnails... every option available when restarting holding the Option + Command keys. Still no joy.
Anybody have any clue what's going on?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. *Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. *Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. *A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. *A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. *A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *If none of these help*:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Objects in InDesign files disappear when exported to PDF (CS5.5)

I have some text that was created to outlines, filled and has a drop shadow applied. When I export the document to pdf, part of the text (the fill) disappears, and all I get is the drop shadow. I tried changing to a non-spot color, I tried removing all attributes, and nothing seems to work! I also tried copying that artwork to the clipboard and pasting it into an Illustrator file (says it is too big to fit the pasteboard, which I verified sizes - and it should fit. I tried copying the paths and pasting them in Photoshop as a smart object... no luck either. What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any help!

FYI - in the "Adobe InDesign Component Infirmation" dialogue box I learned all kinds of info - are you looking for something in particular? I learned that the document was created in InDesign version 7.0.4.553 (which is what I think I was using before I updated my InDesign earlier today)
There aren't particular obvious signs, no.
Generally at this point the right way to track this down is to work with a copy of the document, and delete pages or objects in the document until you find the cause of the problem. Then look at it closely, perhaps look at the IDML file, or make it available so we can look at it.
It sounds like you have a workaround, but if you have time, it might worth trying to find the real problem.

  • Text disappears when editing a layer in Dreamweaver 8

I have had a problem for a long time now with text
disappearing while I'm editing it in a layer. If I scroll up to the

  • HUGE file sizes when editing with Photoshop CS5

Reluctantly I've set Photoshop CS5 up to process photographs for things like barrel distortion that my 18-200 Nikon seems especially prone to.
I open any given photograph with apple-shift-O, make my changes and save. However, the copy that's then put back into Aperture 3 the file size comes out as anything between 30mb and 70mb per photograph - far too big.
I've tried both TIFF 16-bit) and PNG (16-bit) options in Aperture which makes no difference. I've had a look through Photoshop CS5 options but can't see anything which looks correct.
    Thanks

    mjw_london wrote:
I can only assume that it's like this because Aperture 3 only basically allows 2 options, to open in an external editor with either TIFF or PSD - both of which are undesirable because of their huge filesizes. Is there a way of making it open in an external editor with JPEG?
Like jade said, it is not ridiculous. Ideally you would be shooting RAW not (lossy) JPEG to start, but even if you do shoot lossy JPEG you should convert to a lossless format like TIFF or PSD for the entire process of any editing. Large file sizes are a good thing not a bad thing because larger sizes represent more image data. And, hard drive capacity is cheap.
Note that JPEG is a lossy compression algorithm, so when you open a JPEG in Aperture, Photoshop, whatever, the file is decompressed and becomes larger. You can again compress the file (such as back to JPEG) when done editing but be aware that each new compression by a lossy algorithm like JPEG loses image data and may also add undesirable visible artifacts.

  • Losing LR4 adjustments when editing in PS CS5

Sometimes when I want to edit a LR edited photo in PS, even when I open a copy with LR adjustments, some of those settings get lost when the PS file opens, especially brush adjustments. How can I fix this??

When you use "Edit in Photoshop", the ACR version that is available becomes relevant.
Photoshop CS5 does not support the ACR 7.x versions which would have maintained full compatibility with Lightroom 4.x.
Photoshop CS5 supports only ACR 6.x versions, which are fully compatible with Lightroom 3.x but only partly compatible with Lightroom 4.x.
When ACR 6.7 was made available, this restored some compatibility to CS5 so that Edit in PS worked fine much of the time. However subsequent updates of LR4 have drifted a little out of sync with that - although matched ACR 7.x updates have allowed Photoshop CS6 users to keep 100% intercompatible.
When a non-compatible version of ACR is detected by LR (one which cannot be guaranteed to interpret the LR settings correctly) LR brings up a dialog where you can select either "Render using Lightroom" or "Open anyway" or "Cancel". The first option guarantees an accurate conversion, since it is then LR not ACR which is made responsible. The second option still has ACR do the conversion, despite the incompatibility.
If you are not seeing this option presented each time (perhaps because you have previously checked the "don't show again" box) - you can re-activate it in LR Preferences / General tab / "Reset all warning dialogs".

  • Photos disappear when editing

I created a website using iWeb. Now I want to edit the site using Contribute.
After launching Contribute, When I connect to my website I see my photos. However when I click on edit, and the page downloads for editing, the photos are gone. What's happening?
On a page that has a lot of text and photos, after clicking on "Edit" I got an error message: "Could not copy the page to your computer."

Lets start with giving us some actual information besides you having a problem
What version of iPhoto? Exactly how are you "moving" the photos between events
The most general way to move photos between events is to falg the photos, select the target event and use the move flagged photos to selected event command
And as a suggestion - events are not good for organization - consider leaving tehm alone and useint albums and folders to organize -it is easier and much more flexible

  • FAQ: Why isn't the anchor point centered in shape layers?

[UPDATE: In After Effects CC (12.1) and later, you can center the anchor point within the visible content of a layer. ]
    Short answer
Because in shape layers you can have two distinct kinds of anchor points - the anchor point in the main transform properties, as in any other layer type, and also an anchor point in the specific transform properties for each shape. When you create shapes by dragging with the shape tools, it's the anchor point for the shape group that will be centered. If you want to animate the whole layer from the main transform properties, you may need to shift the anchor point so it matches the visual center of your content.
    Long answer
Shape layers are a unique type of content in After Effects.
In fact, they introduce a bit of the object/group hierarchy model in Adobe Illustrator, rather than follow the typical layer model in After Effects.
In other words, while you can definitely use them to quickly create a vector shape and then animate that shape as any other layer in After Effects, you also get the ability to create, edit and animate multiple shapes (each with its' own set of visual appearances) nested in a single shape layer.
This allows all kinds of cool animation opportunities, but it also means that a shape layer is not your typical After Effects layer.
So, when you create a shape by dragging with the shape tool, there actually is an anchor point that is perfectly centered - that's the anchor point in the transform property group for that shape group. If you double click a shape, you'll see a bounding box. This a visual representation of the transform properties for the shape group, and the anchor point specific to this group will default to the middle of that bounding box.
However,  the main anchor point for the whole shape layer may not be centered relative to the shape content. This is normal behavior - Note that if After Effects tried to center the layer anchor point relative to the first shape group you create, it would be immediately wrong when you add more shape groups to the layer. Or when you animate shape groups around.
Now, as many other things in After Effects, shape layers are designed to let you go as deep as you want. Ideally, you may want to try animating the transform properties for each shape group, since there's when things get really powerful. However, if you want to consider shape layers as a one shape per layer entity and animate in that way, you can of course do that. Bear in mind that you may need to center the anchor point yourself relative to the visual center of the content. If you don't do this, the shape layer's content will be offset from motion paths, or behave in a different way from what you may expect when animating scale or rotation.
To do this, make sure you're not selecting a nested shape group but the shape layer itself, then you can do the following:
Use the Pan Behind tool as with any other layer (this may not give what you want if you do it after creating a motion path, since it will modify position values).
Drag the hot text for the Anchor Point property in the Timeline panel, as if it was a slider. You can then re-thread the content relative to the motion path. You can also achieve this by Option- (Mac OS) or Alt- (Windows) dragging with the Pan Behind tool.
For more information on shape layers, see Drawing, painting and paths in After Effects Help.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH :-)
I didn't knew this shortcut as I didn't have to use it anyway.
but it's weird because all the other tools like even the circular gradient tool have their point visible.
Anyway, I guess you can press H with any tools.
Again, thank you, I should have ask it before. ;-)
