Shapes remain selected in Photoshop CC a big nuisance....

Ok so the issue I am having is that when I have a shape layer with multiple shapes and I group that layer with other layers, transforming the group gives unexpected results. Currently what is happening is that all none shape layers are getting transformed uniformely and shape layers only transform uniformely shapes that are selected with the path selection tool. Previously transforming a group ignored shapes that had been selected using the path selection tool and transformed the entire group uniformely.
So for instance I create a shape layer with 3 elipses and I select one elipse to work on. After I create three other layers while working and I put all four layers into a group. I transform the group and what happens is that everything in the group except for 2 elipses are now being transformed.

There is a workaround to this problem other than just going back to each shape layer and selecting or deselcting shapes with the path selction tool.
First you pick the path selection tool then click and drag around the entire canvas. All shapes are now selected. You can click on a new layer and exit the selction or simply go to the group you are transforming and now everything should transform as expected.

You do have to press and hold down the mouse more than a few seconds to see the fly-out menu of other shapes, or use the shortcut shift-u.
If you have already done that. Try resetting the Shape tool. Select it, and in the option bar, right or ctrl-click (Mac) on the icon, choose Reset Tool.

Impossible make a selection in Photoshop CC 2014 with 4GB of RAM

Well I know that I need update my system to 64bit, but year ago was possible work and make selection with Photoshop CC, now is impossible with Photoshop CC 2014 with 4gb of RAM

CC 2014 has twice the ram requirements of CC. While 2 GB is minimum, 8 GB is recommended.
You will have to upgrade your system or go back to CC.

JComboBox remaining selected in JTable

I have yet to figure out how to fix this problem. I have a JTable that is refreshed often with new data from a database (Next and Previous). If I select a JComboBox in the JTable, when I select Next or Previous the box remains selected and the value currently selected remains in there despite the new values from the DB. I know that the JComboBox refreshes correctly unless it is selected.
How do you reset a JComboBox in a JTable so that you can update the JTable with the correct information without having to select something else?
Note: When I hit the last, sometimes second to last, or a blank record, it becomes unselected and refreshes with the correct data. I am running on Win 2K.

If that's the situation then the table is still editing - by default it has a combo only as a cellEditor, not as a cellRenderer. So as long as the combo is showing the table did not stop editing - and while editing that particular value shown in the editor is never updated. And though the underlying tableModel is changed by some other event (like the db update) it is changed back to the value as shown in the editor when the editing is stopped some time later... confusing, isn't it?
The way out is version dependent: safest because working in all jdk versions (except on 1.4.0 on the very first edit that ever happens on a table after startup) is to make sure that a possibly editing state of the table is stopped in your all your action handlers:

if (table.isEditing()) {
table.getCellEditor().stopCellEditing();

That's undesirable for a couple of reasons (like f.i. the independent handlers need a reference back to table), so since 1.4.1 you can force the table to stop editing if the focus is transferred to the outside of the table. (it does not by default you have to set the client property "terminateEditOnFocusLost" to Boolean.TRUE)

Split your text into different lines to fit it.
Create a text element for your text and write it as comments.

Photoshop doesn't have a way of copying a selection, only the contents of that selection. You can save and load selections, but these are really just channels. As such, selections are essentially just black and white information. So I'm not sure what you are seeing in Photoshop when you make your copy, but PowerPoint should just get the information that you see. Screen shots of both Photoshop and PowerPoint may help though.

Hallo zusammen. Die Überschrift sag es schon. Wie Adobe Shape funktionert weiß ich. Die Grafiken tauchen auch in den Bibliotheken auf, aber wenn ich die in Photoshop reinziehe, werden es normale Bilder, also kein Vektor mehr. Wie kann ich das direkt als Vektor in Photoshop verwenden?

Wenn man Doppelklickt auf das Smart Object Icon, im Ebenenfenster, öffnet sich eine PDF Datei in Vorschau. Das reicht mir erst mal.

Gar nicht. So ist es nun mal nicht gedacht. Das funktioniert nur über den Umweg über Illustrator.

CS2: Problems pasting selection from Photoshop

I frequently make selections in photoshop which I then copy-paste into illustrator. Normally this works fine but every once in a while I get the following result:

Note the additional horizontal line of the selection. Where does it come from and how can I get rid of it? The Photoshop file is just a single layer.

As I mentioned, it doesn't happen all the time. But once it happens, I can't get the lines to disappear, even if I make a completely new selection and paste it to Illustrator.
In Illustrator itself, the selected part of the image is surrounded by the normal "trace" line (sorry, I use the french version and don't know how it's called in english) But there's an additional box corresponding to the lower part of the image which is called "contour" (see screenshot above). Sometimes even multiple lines appear, as mentioned by Robert.
Somehow I have the feeling that it happens more often (or only if) I transform or move the selection in Photoshop.
Copying the selection into a new Photoshop file doesn't fix the problem. Somehow the lines that appear later in Illustrator are "inherited".
The original file is a scanned document, saved as PNG. Size of the file is usually around 2-5 MB and 1500x1500 to 3000x3000 pixels.
The programs I use are Photoshop CS 8.0.1 and Illustrator CS2 12.0.0 on OSX 10.4.11.

Plotters require continuous paths. Convert the selection to a path and clean it up suitably. Copy&paste it to Illustrator and use it as a clipping mask on your artwork or whatever. You may also need to create a duplicate layer/ separate PDF file file. Talk to the people doing the plotting.

Try force quitting the Mail app:
Option+Command+Esc, then select Mail from the list. See if that helps.

Does anybody know how to make a selection in Photoshop Elements 13 without having the width / height box drag from the cursor?

I've recently upgraded from Photoshop Elements 10 to Photoshop Elements 13 and the selection tool dragging this little box behind it whenever I make a selection or move a selection is highly irritating. I tried to google for how to not have it shown and I read all the descriptions in the manual about selections, I found nothing.
The following image is what I mean. I want to get rid of the box that says W: 98 px H: 69 px, is there any way to do that? I know I could get used to it but if there is any way to not have it, I would love to know about it.

I have encountered this same problem.
The only fix, and an unstable one at that, is to alternately pan the screen and then drag the text box such that as it moves to scroll off the screen it remains on the page.
The reason this becomes unstable is that at higher zoom levels selecting this text box may also cause it to disappear completely from the page. At this point one has to zoom out find it and attempt to repeat this frustrating maneuver.
In my experience this effect extends to changing pages and alternating levels of zoom.

Flash is capable of Shape Tweening but does not have Photoshops tools or esp. Channel Operations for precise mask edits.

3) does AE have or can be made to perform PS or Flash distort, skew, warp etc. transformations?, (these save incomparable time in path editing rather than AE's limited transforms and manual point and tangent realignments)
4) when shape(mask) tweening in AE is it capable of what Flash calls ease-in/out, or what Illustrator and CorelDRAW calls "speed"or "acceleration" respectivly?

Strange problem undoing a shape layer move in Photoshop CS5

Hi. I have a strange recurring problem in Photoshop CS5. Basically, it manifests like this:
I have a shape layer, or several shape layers. I will move the shape with the move tool (usually via holding Ctrl, depending upon which tool is selected). If I then use undo or step backward, the image does not revert properly. It's like there is a discrepancy between the position of the layer mask and what is displayed on screen. Clicking on the vector mask of the shape layer to reveal its outline shows that the shape is where it should be (i.e. in the position it was originally), but the element of the image it represents is somewhere else. Sometimes, if I move a group of such shape layers, the problem seems to affect some of them but not all. Once so far, I have managed to rectify the problem by simply turning off an unrelated layer and turning it on again! Very strange.
It's a difficult problem to deal with, because it doesn't happen every time. And when it does, it's a case of reverting to a previous save. Luckily I save reasonably often, but it's still an annoying thing to deal with.
Hope I've described it well enough to understand. Any ideas?
I'm using CS5 12.0.4. Windows 7 64-bit. Intel i5 2300. Integrated HD2000 graphics with latest drivers.

I realise I seem to be talking to myself here (perhaps no-one's still using CS5 here, plus it's a fairly specific problem), but I have discovered a factor that makes for repeatable demonstration of this behaviour.
It appears that the problem I'm having is related to using feathering on vector masks. Create a shape with the pen tool, add an amount of 'feather' in the mask options panel, use the move tool to move the shape and then undo. This displays the problem I'm seeing where the image is not refreshed. I have at least found a way to workaround the issue for now. Simply changing the feathering amount updates the image to how it should be.
I'm glad that I can at least continue to use CS5, because I'm totally content with its functionality for my uses, and an upgrade seemed overkill (not to mention having to adjust to the changes made in CS6+ versions).
Perhaps there is still a cure for this bug somewhere. I will keep looking, and update this thread if I find it, in the hope that it may help someone else out there with the same problem.
