Share a calendar but keep event details hidden

iPad 2 with latest version of iOS.
Is it possible to create and share a public calendar such that those who view it merely see times when I'm busy, rather than full details of what the event is?
I'm sure I read that this was possible, but perhaps it was a different calendaring service.

Edited to add:  I want my assistant to see more than "busy."  I need him to see who the appointments are with as well as the location!

    Hello there MizzouTrojan,
If I understand correctly you want all 6 devices to have access to a single calendar that each device gets notifications for and can edit. You can do that with an private iCloud shared calendar. First sign into www.icloud.com and use these steps from the following article to share a calendar:
iCloud: Share a calendar with others
    Share a calendar privately
Click the Share button to the right of the calendar name in the sidebar, then select Private Calendar.
Note:    You can also share the same calendar publicly. For instructions, see the next task, “Share a calendar publicly.”
Type the invitee’s email address in the Add Person field and press Return.
Click the pop-up menu with the invitee’s name and choose access privileges (View & Edit or View Only).
For each person you want to share the calendar with, repeat steps 2 and 3.
When you’ve invited everyone and set their privileges, click OK.
Invitation emails are sent from your iCloud email address to the participants you specified.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • My employer wants me to share his calendar but I do not want to share anything but his calendar.  Is that possible?

My employer wants me to share his iCloud calendar, but that's all I want to share.  I don't want him to have my contacts, bookmarks, etc.  I only want to share his calendar on my PC.  Is this possible?  Also, can I sign up for iCloud on my iPod Touch using my secondary id, but then sign out right away so that this secondary account just for the boss's calendar doesn't mix w/ anything on my iPod?

That helps a lot (thanks!), but if you could please clarify one part of the instruction steps, I'd greatly appreciate it.  If my boss sends me the invitation using my work email (w/ Outlook), do I still accept the invitation via iCloud.com?  Will I be able to prevent him from seeing my bookmarks, contacts, etc.stored on this computer?  Finally, do I have to do something to my Outlook program or via my PC's control panel to complete the process?

  • Deleting a calender feed but keeping events that have passed

I currently subscribe to a Ical calender for my childrens school. They are leaving the school so I want to unsubscribe for future, but I want to keep the events for the dates that have passed from last year. I found the delete option, but it removes everything( past and future). Help?

    Hey Yarpee,
    Great question.
One way of accomplishing this would be to export the calendar you are subscribed to (save to your desktop, or documents folder).
You can then delete the subscribed calendar, and import the local file (to a new or existing local calendar).
For more information on export and import, see this article:
    Calendar: Export and import calendars

  • Calendar sharing without event details

    Dear all!
I use iCloud services for private as well as business matters.
I would like to share my availability with some of my colleagues, without sharing any personal details.
For some reason this function ceased to exist during transition from .Mac to me.com and is missing ever since. I am looking for viable options.
    Has anybody any workaround/ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Saramos,
When setting up Family Sharing you must have a credit or debit card as your payment method. See this article for reference -
    Family purchases and payments
When a family member makes a purchase it will be billed to any gift or store credit that they have first. If none exists it will be billed to you.
As the family organizer, you may not set your billing method for purchases to anything other than a credit or debit card. If you have a store credit such as from pre-paid cards, it may not be shared with other family members. See this article for reference -
How iTunes Store purchases are billed

  • How do I get to see all my events on my MacOS X Calendar but not let anyone I share with see every event?

In iPad’s Calendar application when I select “Calendars” it shows a list of all my email accounts and allows me to assign any event to any email account not just iCloud. How do I get the MacOS X Calendar to do the same?
I share my MacOS X Calendar with someone else but I don’t want to share every event. When I select an email account in iPad’s Calendar other than iCloud it stays visible in iPad Calendar but disappears from my MacOS X Calendar.
How do I get to see all my events on my MacOS X Calendar but not let anyone I share with see every event.

Thank you for your advice. I followed your directions, but came up with the same results. However, I did discover that whenever I open up the iPhoto Library that is already existing on my MacBook a certain set of pictures shows up. But then when I open up the iPhoto Library from the Hard drive another set of pictures shows up. BUT not ALL of my pictures are showing up on the iPhoto Library from the hard drive. At least the last two years of pictures are not showing up?! Actually, it appears that all the pictures are there from when I started using iPhoto about 5 years ago up until around the time that I got my iMac desktop computer and started using that (2 years ago). I have noticed that more recent videos I have made are showing up in a folder on the hard drive, but will not appear when I open up iMovie?! Any ideas on how to access my pictures from the last 2 years off of the hard drive???

  • Calendar - "This event no longer exists" Cannot see event details

When I tap an event to see the details, the details view opens and a message that says "This event no longer exists" is shown.  After I click on OK, the calendar returns to day view.
My calendar syncs with Google Calendar.
    To reproduce this:
        1)  Create an event (either on the Pre or on Google Calendar) with starting date in the past (I tried about two weeks)
        2)  Set it to repeat daily until another date after the starting date, but also in the past (I used about one week)
        3)  Exit the event details
        4)  If created with Google Calendar, do a manual sync so the event shows in the Pre
        5)  Try to open the event
I frequently need to review past events' notes and I can't because of this bug.  Please tell me if any of you can reproduce this.
    Thank you all
Oh, my Pre has WebOS 1.2.5 (I'm in Mexico, with Telcel - registration did not have an option for Telcel)
PS: When will we mexicans get 1.3.1?
Message Edited by MrFusion on 12-10-2009 09:33 PM

This happens with any repeating event created in a Google calendar which ends or has been deleted.  Another problem is that if you have a notification set, you will continue to be notified for the repeating event after it's been deleted, but you get the same error if you try to view the details.  It's been noted on this forum before.

  • Share Calendar but NOT Reminders

I have an iCloud account where I coordinate my email, contact and calendar in order to sync between my iMac, iPhone and iPad.
I also sync that calendar with my wife's MacBook and her iPhone.
This all works, but one thing is annoying.  When I set a calendar event to have a reminder, it pops up on my iMac, my iPhone, my iPad, her MacBook and her iPhone.  Is there any scenario I could be using so I can have a single calendar event but specify where the reminder will pop up?  For example, if I want to be reminded about an upcoming doctor appointment but she does not need to be bothered by the reminder, or if she wants to be reminded about an upcoming manicure, but I do not want to be bothered?
I have seen some discussion about having multiple calendars (e.g. one for me and one for my wife), and then sharing them.  If I did that, I believe the reminders would only pop up on the devices that own the events.  BUT, would it allow us to "share time".  For example, since we have only one car, we need to be able to coordinate appointments, simple on one calendar, but perhaps not so on multiple.  Also, scheduling events would be difficult, potentially because of access issues (read/write vs. read only).
It seems one calendar with read/write access for both makes the most sense, but I get tired of being interrupted by her reminders, and she especially gets tired of seeing mine, which easily outnumber hers 10 to 1.
If no scenario exists, I would like to suggest to Apple to allow the ability to direct reminders to specific devices.  Then, not only could I set reminders for my iMac or her MacBook, but I might also be interested in having certin reminders pop up on my iPhone but NOT on my iPad.
    Any suggestions?

I strongly endorse William's plea to add this functionality. My whole family shares calendars, and NEED the ability to personalize the reminders.  Hello Apple?!!

  • Subscribe Calendar Event Details Missing

I have a new problem with one of our office iCals. We publish the HR calendar on the server, and everyone subscribes to it. Problem being that when someone new subscribes, they get all the events, but the events are blank. It shows the time span that the event occurs, but there is no title or description.
I went to other computers and verified this is the case. The calendar is working for anyone who already had it, and they can refresh and see full event detail.
To test the problem I had a user that already had it working go to a computer where it wasn't and subscribe with his authentication, thinking maybe it was user-related, but when he subscribed on that machine the same thing occurred, he got the events, but they are blank.
Anyone have a clue what this is?

Figured it out. For some reason the publisher's settings lost the checkbox that stated "Publish Event Titles" or something like that. Definitely weird.

  • How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

You can migrate a copy of the data to a new account, then delete the other person's data from each account.  To do this, on the phone that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to keep on the phone, save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. If you have any synced notes that you want to keep on the phone, email these to yourself so you can create new notes in the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  You will create a new icloud email address with you turn Mail to On.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).
