Share a domain in IMS 5.2
I am configuring a IMS5.2 with Direct Mode, and I have to share a domain with another server which I do not manage, (in this server is the end of the domain) .
so, which would be the best way to send all the emails whose addresses are not known by my ldap server, to the server which I do not manage?
Documentation for "domain smarthost" is found in the provisioning guide:

Sending mail through multiple domains with iMS
I have iMS configured and working fine for multiple domains (users are
members of multiple domains). I have done this with a main email address
(main.com), and alternative email addresses to the other domains (alt1.com,
alt2.com...) so that there is one central mail location at (main.com). This
works great for receiving emails.
However, when I send email I would like to be able to show the FROM address
being from one of the alternate domains (alt1.com, alt2.com...) rather than
the main domain (main.com) sometimes. I have authentication turned on for
the sending messages, and users are logging in as ([email protected]). I assume
there is something I can add that will allow this to happen as long as a
valid address exists on my server. Any thoughts?
main domain: main.com (All mail is addressed from this domain)
alt domains: alt1.com, alt2.com...
Thanks in advance, ChrisBTW I am using iMS 5.1.

Issues accessing domain share from domain controller
Hi,
About 2 weeks ago, 2 of my domain controllers at one of our facilities has lost access to a domain share. If I try to access the share from the dc's, it prompts for a username/password. Now if I go to my workstation at corp, the share works fine. I can't
seem to figure out where the problem is. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance! You can use dcdiag and repadmin to check your DCs and your replication health status. That should let you see if something is wrong.

Multiple domains in iMS 5.1
I have 2 domains that I need to host for email.
i.e. main.com and alternate.com
I am migrating from NMS 3.6....... this was so easy there, just fill in
the table for "local domains handled by this host"
That was it, I can't find anything related to that in the docs. This
must be simple, so how?
Details please, do I add or change the rewrite rules? aliases?
Putting the alternate email addresses in users ldap doesn't seem to
work.
Any help would be appreciated.
Dave KirchhoffIt is easy if you have installed iDA4.5 for iMS5. iDA will set up the new
mail domains for u in LDAP. If you do not use iDA then u must create a new
LDAP
entry for the relevant domain.
You should also add a line to the re-write rules to allow the hosted domain
mails
to be delivered locally.
The alias file will be populated by dirsync. There shouldn't be any need to
manually
edit this for mail users.

Win 7 Client cannot access Win 2012 share by domain name
Hello Everyone,
We have Windows 2012 R2 Server configured as Domain cum File Server Role,
There are 20 Win7 Clients / Domain Users who access and used their specific folder on server with \\Servername\Foldername
After some hour (not fixed) for some users (not specific) the server path goes unavailable, but the same folder is accessible with IP address like \\192.168.1.1\Foldername. and after rebooting Win7 Client we can again access the server folder with name.
This happen to any users anytime and the same time other users can access their folder by name,
Please help me on this issue..
Thanks in Advance> After some hour (not fixed) for some users (not specific) the server

This is a kerberos issue.
By default, tickets (especially the TGT which is issued at logon) have a
live time of 8 hours or so (can be adjustet). If this ticket expires and
cannot be renewed (due to a lack of connectivity to a DC or whatever
infrastructure issue), Kerberos fails and ressources cannot be accessed
via name.
IP on the other hand always uses NTLM and thus still works.

Windows machines unable to access smb shares
I know many people are having problems with smb on osx server, but my issues seems very basic, so I will try to ask for help here.
Basically, I have set up a single folder for sharing on a Mac Mini running OSX Mountain Lion Server. Directory services are provided by a WIndows 2003 server, and I have joined OSX Server to that, and am able to see all AD users and groups correctly. I have checked the boxes specifying I wish to share as afp, smb and webdav and also made shares accessible to guests.
Now, if I use a mac client, I can correctly browse the afp and smb shares, and the latter work via finder and smbutil as expected, including access via AD users, connection and file transfer.
If, instead, I use a windows client (I tried both Win7Pro and WinXP), while being able to ping the osx server machine, if I try to "explore" (entering \\hostname in explorer) the shares I get a "Network error: impossible to access ..." (approximate translation, sorry ). I tried both using the hostname and the ip address, always getting the same result.
If I try via prompt with "net view \\hostname" I get a System Error 53 (Unable to find network path).
Does anyone know if I am doing anything wrong?
Thanks
ChristianI have done some further testing, and I can report that occasionally, I am able to connect from a windows 7 professional machine by issuing the following command:
net use z:\\hostname\share /user:DOMAIN\username
mostly this command returns a 53 system error, but sometimes I am asked for the user's password and am then able to access the shared folder for a brief time. -
Needed to copy the share from one server to share in another server
Hi ,
Needed to copy the data from one share named as xyz in the server 1 to the another share abc in another server 2.
Share xyz data should be copied to the share abc which has already different data in it .We need to copy all the data from the share xyz to the share abc without deleting any existing data in the destination share.
I know that /MIR option will replace the destination same as source
Can anybody help us in the Robocopy command & switches for this activity?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks & Regards S.Swaminathan Live & let others live!!!Hi Mandy,
Thanks for your reply.
I have done many robocopy for the share movements from the one server joined in a domain to another server joined in the same domain. In that instances, the destination server will not be having any share of the old server name and just I robocopy the share
from the old server to the new server after creating a new share .The usual command is as follows:
"\\server1\oldshare" \\server2\newshare" *.* *.* *.* /ZB /E /COPY:DATO /XJ /R:0 /W:0 /TEE /dcopy:T /NP /log:c:\robocopy.txt
And after the copy , during the cutover of the standalone DFS pointing to the new share , the domain users in the corresponding access groups (name of the groups based on the old server name) of Full,Modify,Read will be appropriately copied to the respective
new groups (name of the groups based on the new server name) of the new share and the access is ensured by the users.
But in this case , the destination server is already having a share with existing data in it and to be added with the old share data
My question is shall I use the same command as before by copying all the data to the newly created subfolder inside the existiing destination share through the following command
"\\server1\oldshare" \\server2\newshare\new sub-folder" *.* *.* *.* /ZB /E /COPY:DATO /XJ /R:0 /W:0 /TEE /dcopy:T /NP /log:c:\robocopy.txt
You have already mentioned /E without purge options will do.
Just asking one more time for the safer side
Thanks & Regards S.Swaminathan Live & let others live!!! -
Windows 2012 - SYSVOL replication and NETLOGON share
After reading 100 tons of articles and links i decided to open this thread.
I know today is 1st of april, but unfortunately for me this is not a joke.
given:
two 2003 DC's - physical servers
two 2008 DC's - VM's on ESX 5.1 hosts
two 2012 DC's - VM's on ESX 5.5 hosts
domian fucntional level 2003
situation:
we plan to decom the 2003's.
The 2008 DC's are in place since a while and working ok.
We plan to upgrade to 2012 and here it is where the trouble starts.
Firstly, I couldn't, by any means, to promote 2012 as DC's until i moved all the FSMO roles from the 2003 DC's to the 2008 DC's.
After lots of work with the network team we made all the right connections opened the firewalls, made the DCDIAG and DNS tests and the only problem reported are the SYSVOL replication and NETLOGON share.
I tried all the tools out there to check the replication and the last one is Microsoft's AdRplstatus Tool which made me think that either Microsoft makes fun of me, either i'm the dumbest windows admin on this planet.
This tool reports that there are NO ERRORS in replicating SYSVOL, but when i run the command 'net share' the 'domain.com\sysvol\scripts' is not there. Further more checking, i try to access '\\domain.com\sysvol' - directory under which i must find the 'policies'
and 'scripts' folders and, Sysvol is empty - obviously these are present when i do this check from the 2008 DC's or 2003 DC's.
Is there a known issue for these problems regarding 2012 and ESX 5.5 ? - still, i doubt it.

still, that DNS server with that error is a linux DNS, but all my DC's have DNS role on and fully replicating and working, including the 2012's.

To perform non-authoritative restore of sysvol, you set the Burflag value & system will automatically tries to sync contents of sysvol with its replicating partner DC. Its not mandatory to select any particular DC for sysvol replication becasue in a
same domain, all DC's shares the same sysvol content.
Sometime, if initialization of FRS doesn't start, you have to follow the below article. Its also applicable to windows 2008 even as long as your using FRS for replication.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290762/en-us
To force the replication of sysvol using cmdline, refer below link.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/justinturner/archive/2007/04/27/quick-tip-force-frs-replication.aspx
Its better to find out what went wrong with the overall AD domain infra that sysvol has not been able to contact its partner for sysvol replication using depth assessment of the domain. It can be the network, firewall, antivirus or in-built firewall port issues
which might have broken sysvol replication.

Cluster with shared domain folder using OCFS2 and the domain /tmp folder
I've setup a cluster with two machines and one managed server on each machine. One of the machines also hosts the admin server.
Initially, both managed servers were running on the same machine. Everything worked well. When I move to having two machines, I didn't want to have to independently maintain the domain folder on each machine.
So I decided to setup a shared drive between the machines and use OCFS2 to share the domain folder between the two machines.
Everything started up fine, but when I deployed software to the server I would frequently (but not always) get this error:
[wldeploy] Target state: deploy failed on Cluster cluster-01
[wldeploy] weblogic.management.DeploymentException: [Deployer:149189]Attempt to operate 'deploy' on null BasicDeploymentMBean for deployment mylibrary#[email protected]. Operation can not be performed until server is restarted.
After looking around a bit on google I saw this issue:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11035_01/wls100/issues/known_resolved.html#CR279281
which says
Some OS and NFS combinations result in deployment failures or configuration updates with an exception like:
weblogic.management.DeploymentException: Attempt to operate 'distribute' on null BasicDeploymentMBean
Workaround or Solution:
* Run statd() and lockd() processes on every NFS client that accesses a remote NFS volume.
* If multiple servers that share the same domain root are started with different user Ids of same group, set the correct "umask" for the server processes so that a file created by one server can be opened for read/write by other servers without security exceptions.
Unfortunately, I wasn't running NFS, so the workaround didn't help me.
Through dump luck, I tried this:
I replaced the domainroot/tmp folder with a symbolic link to a folder on each machine's local filesystem. Following that change my deployments work everytime.
Does anyone know why this change worked? What is the purpose of the /tmp folder in a domain folder?
Are there any switches I could turn on to get more information about the exact error that causes the deployment mbean to come back null?It may not be the same situation, but I had this "deployer:149189" error and it turned out to be mixing WLS 10.0 and 10.3 installations together in the same install directory and not being scrupulous about environment setup. I think the problem was caused by accidentally running a 10.0 domain with Java 1.6.

Unable to create package shares on distribution points
For any OSD packages in our environment (like images, driver packages, etc) I always check the option "Copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points", so that we are able to run content directly from the DP's in a task

That same sequence of errors is repeated for every distribution point we have. I checked the sharing permissions on the SMSPGKE$ and SMSSIG$ folders on the DP and everything looks correct. I only started noticing this issue after our SP1 upgrade, but I can't
find anything from Microsoft saying this is a known bug or how to fix it. This is also affecting new distribution points that we created after the SP1 upgrade, so I don't believe going down the remove/reinstall of all the DP's route will work. I've seen similar errors after installing SP1:
Failed to set share security on share \\DP.domain.tld\SMSSIG$. Error = 5
Failed to set access security on share SMSSIG$ on server DP.domain.tld
DPConnection::Disconnect: Revert to self
Cannot find or create the signature share.
Solution for that case: Use the computer account instead of a site system installation account:
That might fix it.

Hello,
ON SDDM 3.1.0.691 - EA3
Windows XP SP3
How can I define a domain in a design and let it remain in the design ?
I already tried many options but the domain always remains in DefautlDomains.
What I have to do to create design domains and commit these domains to the svn repository and share this.
Regards
NelsonHell Nelson,
How can I define a domain in a design and let it remain in the design ?Open design, go to domains administration and add domain - there is "Domains File" combo box which allow to select file name or to insert new name - just type file name (without extension) first time and you can select it on next domain. File will be saved in Domains directory under your design directory.
and commit these domains to the svn repository and share this. You also can share default domains - in preferences you can change location of "system types" directory ( domains, logical types, RDBMS sites and scripts are there) - select versioned directory and you can share them as well
Regards,
Philip
PS I think you use DB2/zOS 8, can you check whether DM 3.1 EA3 works with it. Thanks in advance. -
DFSR replicaion problem between domain controllers
I have 2 domain controllers running server 2012 and recently noticed a lot of errors about replication between 2 of them
i demoted child controller and promoted it again for DC and issue still occurs
so far i noticed that when browsing network and looking for shares on main DC i can see SYSVOL folder there
but it is missing on the other one - it is present in c \ windows but not visible in shares \
also domain folder is empty on the child DC
when i run dfsrmngr and run the diagnostic it doesn't show errors in status also it says that it is enabled
also when trying to manualy create pair of folders to replicate the contents it says at one of the steps it is already used ....what would be the best
thing to do at this point o have replication issue solved ?

Channel for incoming mail addressed to specific domain
I am trying to create a channel for all incoming messages addressed to a specific domain.
I know that all incoming Internet mails go to tcp_local first.
What I want to do is to separate mails for different domains to different channels so I could later process them, either with conversion channel or with some channel filters.
Also, after passing trough those specific channels, how to put those mails back on track for delivery?
Can anyone help on doing this?
Thanks
Im running (on Solaris 8) MS5.2p1 hf1.21To look over the docs but I already did, and its pretty bad, poorly explained
So, please lets try to make this clear.
Note, every time after making changes I run:
imsimta cnbuild
imsimta restart
First, you gave an example to me (reply 5):
[email protected]%tcp_friendly-daemon
Second, I was not sure from your post where to put space (reply6), and I tested both cases:
domain.net$E$F [email protected]%tcp_friendly-daemon # space between $F and $U
and
domain.net [email protected]%tcp_friendly-daemon # space between domain.net and $E
Unfortunately, nothing has changed.
Third, you wrote (reply 7) No spaces.
Forth, I tested that as well and it gave me an error (reply 8).
Fifth, in your last reply (reply 9) you said that I need a left and a right half, and you suggested an example that Ive already checked (reply 6) and it wasnt working :(
So, now I am completely lost
Here is the result of testing this last example in imta.cnf:
domain.net [email protected]%tcp_friendly-daemon # space between domain.net and $E
! tcp_friendly
tcp_friendly smtp mx single_sys subdirs 20 noreverse maxjobs 7 pool SMTP_POOL mailfromdnsverify maytlsserver allowswitchchannel saslswitchchannel tcp_auth
tcp_friendly-daemon
imsimta cnbuild
imsimta restart
imsimta test -rewrite -debug [email protected]
Could you review this result, please and try to see what is wrong.

IIS in DMZ - files in domain DFS
Hello!
We have domain DFS share, which contains files that we need distribute to Internet via http.
For this we planning to install IIS server in DMZ.
Is it enough on IIS DMZ in Physical Path specify \\domain\share and domain account that have read permissions on share?
Thank's!Hi,
I assume the purpose is to create a shared folder on internet - If DMZ is already set, it is fine to have Read permission on share if you just would like to give user Read - Only permission.

So I came to the realization that a local administrator not joined to the domain can see Administrative Shares on domain computers. Is there anyway to lock this down? I just realized someone could fire up a VM and be an administrator on that VM and then
access servers using administrative shares. Is this normal behavior?
Thanks!Hi,
As “Administrative shares” are defined all the default network shares that can be accessed remotely only from network administrators.
But you can update them via the following article:
