Share access

Hi Guys
Hope all are doing fine.
I am having one share folder in which I provided access for security groups named Group 1 and Group 2.
For group 1 I gave access for READ ONLY and for group 2 I gave access for READ WRITE.
One of the user is the member of group 1 and group 2 .If he try to access the folder which permission will take effect.
Kindly share the answer along with the reason.

This is a Lync Sub forum about Lync Security, not general windows security.
If this is a general question about folder rights you probably want the forum related to the Windows Server version you are running.

How do I share access to Dreamweaver with a colleague of mine in a separate location?
I currently have DW loaded onto my desktop. I am presuming that if my colleague wants to get access to it, I have to copy the DW files I've created and put them onto the creative cloud connection. If that is the answer, How do I do that?
My colleague has already downloaded DW onto his computer - he just can't see the files that I've created, even though I am making sure that my version of DW is always closed when he accesses his version.

It is against the standard Dreamweaver license for your colleague to be using your license. Your colleague needs his license.

MDT 2013: bootstrap.ini not applying username and password for share access

I customized my bootstrap.ini file to skip the welcome screen, set keyboard locale, and enter a service account username and password for share access. The welcome screen skip and keyboard locale work beautifully but it's not applying the share username/password/domain
at all.
bootstrap.ini:

Basics - Server 2008 R2 - SP1, WDS, MDT 2013
Well all, I've done this at least 20 times today and the deployment share info is still wrong...
Someone else built and messed with this thing so i'm trying to fix it. We have 2 MDT servers and 1 WDS that is on the Production MDT. I've turned the test MDT off.
It was working fine, until I updated the deployment share ... after adding some drivers for the surface pro 3 for the pxe boot

I've deleted all the .wim and associated files from all locations from the deployment share\boot folder and from the wds remote install\boot\x64\images folder where they are instead of the remote install\boot\images folder that everyone refers to.
I really can't figure this one out... I know it's something simple I'm over looking but I can't see it..

Delay in Share access locally on windows 2008 r2

HI All,
Have been facing with an issue in which shares hosted on one of my server sometimes take a long time to open in explorer even if tried by IP/hostname/Fqdn..sometimes the lag is for more than 40sec ..It happens rarely once or twice in a month but causes issues
with our processes..During the issue the delay in share access occurs from diff servers including locally on the server..tried from win xp/win7/windows 2003/windows 2012.
Some options were opted like disabling RSS,checksum,TCP/Ip offload ,firewall disabled,SMB patch
but in vain.
Has anyone encountered such issues.Please let me know if anyone has any fix for the issue.

Since the issue also occurred locally, you could try the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check the hard drive containing the folder that is causing the slow downs.
2. Check the folder optimization preference to see if the automatic optimization got it right.
3. Disable indexing temporarily to see if it resolves the slow folder issues.

Lion 10.7.2 DFS share access issue

i have a macbook air running 10.7.2 and we have a DFS file server running windows 2008 r2
our name space is domain based and i can access the file server using \\domain.com\uk\data and \\domain\uk\home\xxx (where xxx is the username)
the first is the shared data drive and the 2nd is the users home drive
all works beautifully when i am connected via the ethernet. as soon as i move onto the internal wifi (sits on the same network as the ethernet lan and has full access to all network resource, our windows 7 laptops can access all shares just fine) i can all of a sudden no longer access the DFS share \\accel.com\uk\data
it either says it cannot find it or a username and password box comes up (i am using centrify to leverage our AD user accounts on our mac's) when i enter my username and password it does not accept it. I have the same issue when i am outside of the office and vpn's in.
this evening i discovered that i have no problems accessing our DFS share if i enter \\domain.com\uk and i am presented with the folder UK on my dekstop and when i click on it i can see the DATA and HOME drive subfolder
when i now go to the finder and click on connect to server SMB://domain.com/uk/home/xxx it connects fine
so it seems that the /uk/ bit of the DFS path is confusing the mac client when not connected via the ethernet lan cable.
i have tried to mount via the cli but it comes up with no route to host and the console log displays something similar
at least i have a work around now but does anyone know if this is an issue with my name space setup or whether this is a bug (i presume bug as windows 7 clients have no issue with this namespace but i am not taking anything for granted :-) )

The issue has previously hit Apple TV owners. I think people came to the conclusion that it was a HDMI handshake problem. Basically the process where the device and TV greet each other, make up some rules about communicationg and what their secret key is and so on.
I haven't tried this yet, but my local service center says that basically I can do one of two things:
- Downgrade to 10.7 and then download the 10.7.1 update from Apples website. To do this without having a Mac OS X Lion disc, you can hold down CMD + R when the computer boots to be able to access the recovery partition on newer Macs that come without the OS disc.
or..
- Put something in between the computer and TV. For example, if you're using an amplifier as a part of your home theather set up, this will probably work. The service guy said he has his Mini connected to the amplifier, which in turn is connected to speakers and a projector. The inverted colors still appear, but only once per night (i.e. after the first problem is reset by resetting the link then it's fine).
For now, I'll do my little dance of changing the source on the TV from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 and then back again to reset the link... But, I'll probably try downgrading in a few days.

Share Access Expiration

Can share, server administrator access, or NTFS permissions that are granted to a computer or resource be time based so that access is denied after a defined date or removed using any server or product within the Microsoft suite?
I know there are products out there to control administrator groups access I've also reviewed the dynamic access control with claims. I'd really prefer to stick within the Microsoft suite and I don't see these specific senarios discussed so far. I'm
open to other options of accomplishing the task too with other Microsoft components (system center etc.).
Can this be done? Has anyone done this level of security control with only MS products before and I'm not hitting the specific search term in bing/google?

The file system cannot automatically remove granted permissions by time based. You can run the command below to remove grantd permissions:

FQDN Share Access (Could not find this item)

Say I have the domain 'contoso.com', which is resolved by a domain controller (Controller). I have a share (Share) on Controller with everyone permissions (full control, just to test).
Now I can access Share via '\\Controller\Share' or '\\Controller.contoso.com\Share'. This is fine.
I can also access Share via '\\contoso.com\Share'. This is not fine, as follows.
If I try to e.g. create a new folder, I get 'Could not find this item. This is no longer located in contoso.com.'
Why is Share listed in the shares of contoso.com if it isn't located there?

Do you mean that you can access Share via '\\Controller\Share' or '\\Controller.contoso.com\Share' and create a new folder in it without issue, however, you cannot create a new folder in the Share folder when access share via '\\contoso.com\Share'?
I have done a test on my PC, when access share via '\\contoso.com\Share' the content is empty. I create a new folder in it, then I have a same issue with you. It seems that it is a side effect of having shared folders on a domain controller.

Mac OS X help with share access on a windows 2003 server

Hello everyone
I am not too familiar with Mac OS X (Darwin) and so on and need a little help.
We recently got a new windows 2003 standard server and I want to move my files to there so they get backed up and so on. I am able to access shares on the pc's on our network but when I try to access the server from finder i just get a box pop up saysing do you want to fix or delete the alias.
When I try to access it via a terminal, because I am a bit more ok with the cmd line thanks to my linux capabilities, I get the following error:
mount_smbfs: tree connect phase failed: syserr = Permission denied
when i try:
mount_smbfs //dan:[email protected]/General\ Files /BB-SERVER/General\ Files
Is there anybody that has experienced this before and that can help me resolve this.

I'm sorry I am not able to help with your questions about sharing from your Mac to the server but wanted to suggest that you post back the exact Mac OS version you are using. Your specs below your post suggest 10.0.x which was barely a beta version of Mac OS X. This will surely help those who are seeing your topic and trying to help.

Change public share access to read only for public and full access to selected users

Hi, new to the community just purchased a recertified WDMyCloud 2TB after my 2 years old MyBookLive 2TB HD died due to accidental power cable unplugging. I've got everything setup including MiniDLNA by following instructions on this forum and everything is working exactly as I want it to except public share. I want public share to be set to read only access for public and full access to certain users (just myself at the moment) and having a "upload" folder within this share with full public access to everything in this folder would be a bonus. I tried login in to ftp with root user and removing write permission for public but that blocks me out as well. I'm sure it's possible by doing some majic on SSH but I wouldn't have a clue so hoping someone here would be able to help me out.

What i want is public to have read only access to file server. Public as in users who do not have a user account on mycloud. E.g someone who connects to to my home network for the first time and is able to browse and download content from public share. I'm aware of being able to set indivual access to shares for users like full access, read only and no access but public users won't have a user account.Through the My Cloud UI interface what you seek to do is not possible. The public share like all other share folders are an all or nothing affair when using the adminstration UI. When using the administration UI you do not have granular control on shared folders to limit non users to read only access or set permission levels for subfolders. The workaround to do what you seek and have the public folder set for read only is to change the folder settings via SSH. It may take some work to set the folder security so that users can read/write to the public folder while the guests only have read access. However, if you reboot the WD My Cloud or update the WD My Cloud firmware those settings may be reset back to the default settings where the entire public folder is read/write for all. There are way to prevent this but again it will take a bit of coding to do so via SSH. See this link (even though its for the WD My Book Live) for a starting point on how to use SSH to change the permission levels on the public folder. Another option if one doesn't go the SSH route is to turn off public sharing for the public folder then create a "guest" user account and give that "guest" account read only access to the public folder while all other user accounts have full read/write access.

Unable to restrict file share access

I've got a weird issue with file share and firewall settings that has had me stumped for a couple of days. Hopefully someone can explain what I'm doing wrong or overlooking.
I've got a single dedicated box running Server Essentials 2012 hosted in a datacenter. The server is using a single NIC with a single static public IP address - no local routing or NAT.
I've also setup VPN access via RAS. Using NAT, VPN clients are assigned an IP from a static range of completely different IPs.
I'd like to ensure that file sharing services are only available to VPN clients, not over the public IP address to anyone connected to the internet.
I've tried setting the local and remote address scope on the default firewall rules for ports 138, 137, 139, 445 and even RPC rules, but shares remain accessible to everyone.
So far the only way I've been able to block access is to create new rules explicitly preventing traffic on the aforementioned ports, but that obviously blocks sharing for VPN clients as well.
Any insight is welcome. Sincere thanks in advance.

Firstly id look at getting something more powerful in front of the server instead of having a public ip assigned to it.
Second, you can use Windows Firewall to Block all traffic from external sources, except VPN traffic. Then setup a new rule to allow all traffic from your VPN subnet to the server.
Ill be honest and say i dont really understand your setup, based on your description it seems very odd indeed.

SMB Network Share Access slow (MAC OS X SL and Windows 2008 Server)

Hi,
I've added some iMacs with 10.6 to the Active Directory. This works totally fine. Anyways, I have some trouble, when accessing shares on my network. I found out, that some problems came up, because my network name was XXX.XXX.local I changed the Domain name of the Active Directory, but still the problems exist:
When opening the finder, Open Office or Microsoft Word on the Mac and browsing through files and folders, it sometimes takes up to 30 seconds and more, until the content of a folder appears... I already tried ADmitMac from Thursby, but it didn't seem to fix this problem. When accessing the shares from a Windows machine, they run pretty fast. Any idea?

I too have the exact same problem and need to figure it out soon. Very slow response times. It seems the server is getting over utilized (look at your resource monitor).
Current configuration are:
MAC OS 10.6.4 using a Windows 2008x64 as a file server. Clients are connecting via SMB.
Whats the common denominator here?
Our users are using Adobe InDesign 3. When users open the file located on the server and submits a print job directly to the printer, the InDesign links ( some files contain around 100 ) reach back to the server to reference the file before it prints. This may be why the server's resources are heavily affected and may be the reason why it may cause slow response times for other MAC users who try and save, open or copy files from / to the server. We have not found a soultion and all things mentioned here including the internet links did not work. We are still testing other variables (copy the Indesign files locally to detemine if print times decrease, etc. Any comments appreciated.

Admin share access denied via cluster name

on a windows 2008 two node failover cluster if access \\node1\e$ it works fine. But i am not able to access using cluster name \\cluster network name\\e$.
has anyone faced same issue, kindly advise

As in other answers and my post above this is no longer the working method. If you looked at the "
\\cluster-name\c$ " the CNO has no C drive ! this is only a network name!
It is not common that you access the cluster disks other than the node disk by \\CNO\
you should connect \\nodename\c$ and if there is a cluster file share you could connect as
\\Filenodename\sharename and not
\\CNO\sharename if the CNO moves to a other node and the named e$ is than on the other node. Bad way to access the data!
so C$ should only been accessed by \\clusternodename\c$

Iomega StorCenter px4-300d share access

Hey guys! I'm having an issue with an iomega StorCenter px4-300d. Recently a contractor remoted in and changed our domain controllers so I ended up doing a network reset on our 2 iomega NAS. The first one behaved in a completely logical fashion and through some trial and error I have it reset as it was before. The second one however is being rather illogical. I have reattached it to the domain and set up share permissions, however users who have been given permission to the shares are unable to access them on this device. The only way I've been able to get to files is to access them through the web interface, but that doesn't lend itself well to managing the data in the shares. I have rebooted both the NAS and my laptop several times, as we have encountered this issue in the past, but usually a reboot of the NAS or the users PC clears it up. Has anyone else encountered this? Any recommendations on the course I should follow? Edit: This is wierd all of a sudden it started letting people into shares. Any recommendations you have would still be great, since it isn't really behaving in a consistent manner.

Is the primary unit showing any drive/storage alerts in the system status page or in the event log?
Do you have media server enabled in the primary unit's web interface? If so, try disabling the feature restart the unit and then try accessing having the remote unit connect the cloud.
Also with the cloud edition devices there are both the Remote Access and Personal Cloud options. If you are trying to have both enabled at the same time it can cause problems like you have been experiencing. Currently Remote Access is no longer online via TZO(DYN), so personal cloud should be the only remote option enabled.

WRT350N FTP Share Access

I have the WRT350N (firmware v.1.03.2) with a 500GB WD MyBook drive formatted as NTFS with three partitions. Partition is 3 is shared as my FTP folder. I've created 2 groups -- admin and ftp-users. Connecting to the server remotely works great with no issues if I connect as a user belonging to the admin group. The problem is, when connecting as a user from the ftp-users group (having read/write access), the user can login, but is not able to list the directory w/ PWD. I've checked all the share settings: FTP share group contains the ftp-users group; ftp-users have read/write; the users are actually members of ftp-users; ftp-users has read/write to the the share under the share tab.
Any ideas why I can't list the directory unless it's as a user from the admin group?

Additional notes: I've changed the ftp-users group rights to read-only and still no success. I've modified the user name to see if there were conflicts of some sort and still no luck. The only group that can successfully browse via the ftp client is 'admin'.
One odd thing that I've noticed is if my ftp client is connected as the ftp-users group, and then modify the password within the web interface of the logged in ftp user, the ftp client begins to browse normally.
This is all very weird and quite a pain. I need to have a non-admin group that has full access to the ftp server folders, but not to the other partitions. Currently, to provide other users access to the ftp site, I have to add them to my admin group.
Any other ideas out there?

Administrative Shares Access

So I came to the realization that a local administrator not joined to the domain can see Administrative Shares on domain computers. Is there anyway to lock this down? I just realized someone could fire up a VM and be an administrator on that VM and then
access servers using administrative shares. Is this normal behavior?

As “Administrative shares” are defined all the default network shares that can be accessed remotely only from network administrators.
