Share an Epson C86 with a PC using CUPS on Snow Leopard 10.6.3

Hi,
I used to do this a lot in previous version of OS X but I am stuck with X.6.3.
I would create a printer in OS X. Share it in the pref panel. Then would co in CUPS and find the queue name.
Then I would go on a PC. Add a PS printer (Apple laserwriter or similar) create a TCP port and point it to the mac IP and queue name found in CUPS.
Would always work like a charm. Even on Mac OS 7.5 and up....
Can't get to print. Windows can't print to the shared printer in X.6.3. I do not want to use Bonjour for this. LPR used to work.
Questions :
Does CUPS 1.4.3 still support LPd/LPR on OS X. The documentation of CUPS says so...but does SL let it in?
If not, how to enable it?
Now I get a forbidden message when I try to access the admin section of CUPS sine I upgraded to X.6.3.
Any help would be appreciated....because this is a no go to upgrade to SL...
Thanks!

I resolbed the acces to the admin page. On X.6.2 and less, Icould acce the CUPS interface with my IP address recived from my router ex: 192.168.0.100.
On x.6.3 I need to use localhost to acces the admin page.
I've always used localhost (127.0.0.1) to access the CUPS page. Using the assigned IP has always been an issue Tiger, Leopard and now Snow.
The terminal did accept the command but no printing using lpd lpr.
I finally used IPP pri ting with succes.
Lpd was the only way I could use my inkjet printer on OS 9 and less.
If anyone has a way to reenable it on X.6.3 that would be welcome.
Good to read that you got it working with IPP.
I'm not sure that anything additional needs to be re-enabled for LPD/LPR to work. For a standard install of 10.6.3, after adding LPD to the "Browse Local Protocols" command via Terminal, I was able to print to my shared Canon MP980 inkjet from XP SP3.
Maybe someone else can offer some insight...

  • Using iCloud in Snow Leopard

I have spent the better part of a morning researching how to use iCloud with Snow Leopard.  I found that iCal Contacts and Mail can be synced with iCloud on Snow Leopard.  There are several posts on how to accomplish this.  I was sucessful in setting up my iCal to sync with other devices using iCloud on Snow Leopard.
I have tried at least a dozen times to get my Contacts to sync with iCloud and Snow Leopard after finding several posts with explicit instruction as to how to do it.  However, every atempt has failed.  Each of the instructions I followed were slightly diferent.  I have not found one that worked.  Blog posts are filled with success stories of how others have gotten it to work, but not me.  I can set up Address Book with an iCloud account but when I select iCloud as my list of addresses, all I get is a message saying "no Card Selected."
I am very frustrated that I canot get this to work while others sing praise of their success.
If anyone has a definitive answer as to how to get Contacs to sync through iCloud in OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) please let me know.
    Thank you.

There is no definitive answer, iCloud is not supported on Snow Leopard, so you are reduced to hacks which may or may not work.
Google for Contacts solutions, there are some, some which work, some which don't. And some that do and then don't.
If you want a supported solution then you must use Soho Organizer, it supports iCloud on Leopard through Mavericks. But it's $99

  • Is it possible to share an aperture library with different users using osx server.

is it possible to share an aperture library with different users using osx server.

Not really.  You should not be sharing an Aperture library over a network.  It's not designed for that and you'll likely corrupt your library at some point.

D13, thanks for these details. This an awesome clue. Are you able to connect to this Wi-Fi connection with other devices? Let's try a few steps to resolve this issue.
First, reset the network in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network and power your device off/on.
Secondly, delete the Wi-Fi connection in Settings>Select your Wi-Fi>Forget this Network and the try to connect to that Wi-Fi again.
Lastly, try creating your Wi-Fi connection. Tap Settings>Enable Wi-Fi ON. From Choose a Network, select Other. Enter the Wi-Fi network name. Select Security. Select the Wi-Fi network type then select Other Network. Enter the Wi-Fi network password then select Join

    Hi
I had the same problem with my MB Pro and an Epson Stylus Photo PX700W printer after upgrading to snow leopard.
I got onto Epson tech support and was advised to do the following (which worked by the way!)
    1) Delete the Epson printer from the "Print & Fax" utility in the "System Preferences"
To do this, open "Print & Fax" and choose the epson printer in the left hand pane under "printers".
    Then hit delete
    2) Go to the Epson support site and download the latest drivers for your printer
    URL = http://www.epson.co.uk/support
    3) Enter your printer type and on the following page choose "drivers and software"
    4) I personally downloaded the driver plus the Print CD application although I believe it may have been the same version as the one I already had installed.
    5) Once the driver package is downloaded use the installer and install as normal
    6) Once installed go back into "Print & Fax" and choose the + button under the printer left hand pane to choose a new printer.
In my case the printer was found on wifi using bonjour and I just chose it
    7) launch the "Print CD" app and try to print
In my case all the options that had been greyed out had returned and I was once most able to print to CD/DVDs
    I hope this helps

  • I want to install Snow Leopard Server on our MacPro (2.66) using Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server disks?  I kept getting an error for backwards compatibility.   Is this possible or do I need to purchase another copy of Snow Leopard Server?

I want to install Snow Leopard Server on our MacPro(2.66) using Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server disks?  I kept getting an error for backwards compatibility.   Is this possible or do I need topurchase another copy of Snow Leopard Server?

The OS disks that are shipped with a particular product
are set up so that tey will only install on that product.
It will install on any Mini of that exact vintage, but that
    is all.
This is to prevent people from doing exactly what you
are trying to do.  The license for OSX shipped with any
is only valid for that product.  Also, Snow Leopard,
including Server, is only permitted to be run on one
computer at a time.  Bottom line, unlike Lion, legally
you cannot install the same copy on multiple
computers unless some "family pack" or site license
    is purchased.
Yes, you need to purchase another copy.
The copy of Snow Leopard license is here:

Yes. Firefox 29.0.1 works fine in Mavericks.
Firefox 16 is the last version of Firefox that works with Mac OS X 10.5

  • Using the native Snow Leopard VPN Client

    Hello,
The company I work for recently began using ciso anyconnect for vpn connections. Before the switch I was able to use the native snow leopard vpn client to connect to the cisco vpn. I would like to know if this is still possible with cisco anyconnect. Thanks for the help.

Actually, we just answered our own question.
The cisco router is an older 2600 now slated with EoL.
Cisco IPSec protocol in the newer current Cisco IOS may not be compatible with OSX 10.6.4
The 2600 IOS is no longer supported, hence older IOS, hence the conflict.
So there ya go ... stay with current Cisco equipment and 10.6.4 native will probably work. 10.6.4 is dead to older Cisco.

  • Bought used iMac, reinstalled snow leopard, stuck at start up screen

I bought a used iMac from someone who has owned it for about a year. He had upgraded to Lion from snow leopard but I wanted to reformat everything back to the original settings(like new) so I could start from scratch. I used the original snow leopard start up discs that came with the machine and held down c when restarting, the installation went fine but when the computer restarted after the installation the apple in the grey screen appeared and the spinning circle at the bottom spun for a few seconds then froze. I let it sit over night thinking it was just taking a while to start up but in the morning it was still on the same screen, nothing had changed. Any idea what the problem is?

You have to use Disk Utility to erase the ENTIRE boot drive by selecting the drive makers name on the far left, it will have the disk size too.
You need to do this to erase the 10.7 Recovery and reset the partition map back to 10.6 acceptable version so your 10.6 Disk Utility can repair the drive (and get the machine to boot) and remove the 10.7 EFI partition for 10.6 version.
I suggest you also use the Security Option > Zero all data, not for scrubbing the drive, but also for mapping off any failing sectors.
Reducing bad sectors effect on hard drives
Once 10.6 is installed, setup and Software update until clear.
then install programs, then files and only to 50% of the hard drive if possible for best performance.
don't go over 80% as it can start having issues as it gets near full.
Good Luck, setup a clone and then you can boot from the external clone drive anytime and in seconds.

I could not find a MF-4430 at the Canon site. Are you sure the model is correct? They have a MF4450. The Mac drivers are here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass _series/imageclass_mf4450#DriversAndSoftware
If you are sure you have a MF4430, look around the canon site for the drivers.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • Can I share my iCloud calendar with someone not using iCloud but has a mac?

I would like to share one of my calendars with someone else also using a mac but doesn't use iCloud.  I would like them to be able to read/write on this calendar

You can only share a read/write calendar with another iCloud member. You can share a read-only calendar with a non-member: the recipient can subscribe to it in iCal. Just get them to open an iCloud account if they have Lion on their Mac.
