Share and change iCal events with co-workers

Hello,
I want to set up a iCal group with my co-designers at work, where we can all share and change any production schedules and vacations amongst each other. so everyone will know what is going on with each designers workload in a particular day or week or month.
Is it possible to set that up at our work?

It is possible.
Create a Calendar on iCloud. Right click on it and it will open a small window were to pu the Emails of others to share the calendar with. They have to be iCloud Mails.
Sorry.. my iCal is italian but your will be similar.

It is possible to link an event to an Address Book contact using the URL field. I have an Applescript application to create these URLs when you have an Address Book contact selected. See the script Link to Address Book on this page.

How to cancel an edit to an iCal event with attendees

I keep running into this--
- Open an existing event with attendees
- Make an edit of some kind
- Change your mind
- Forget what changes you made and/or not wish to let everyone already invited know that iCal is sometimes as crappy as Outlook.
- Only have the options to keep editing or send/update (i.e. send the updates to everyone)

The concensus seems to be that you can't do it.
However this seems to work for me (when I'm desparate):
Quit iCal
Go to the "Library" folder in your home directory, then to the "Calendars" folder (i.e. ~/Library/Calendars)
Delete the files "Calendar Cache~" and "Calendar Cache~" (you don't need to empty your trash)
Reopen iCal. It will resync the calendar.
I've only tried this with Exchange calendar items that have already synced with the server, so your milage may vary. I suppose it's possible that you may lose data this way.
Hope this helps someone since it doesn't seem like Apple is going to fix this anytime soon!

In step 3 above I said delete "Calendar Cache~" twice. I meant: delete "Calendar Cache" and also "Calendar Cache~" if that exists as well.

German dates and "add iCal event" not working

I have a german formatted date in a mail (like 01.08.2008 = October, 1. 2008) and Mail does recognize this as a date. But when I select "add iCal event", the popup shows the date 08.01.08 (= January, 8. 2008). This only happens with days <= 12. When there is a date like 25.01.2008 everything works fine.
Does anyone know how I can get this to work correctly? The global language settings are all set to the correct german format (= default settings for Germany after a clean install of Leopard).

I reported this a bug to Apple in October 2007.
but anyway 01.08.2008 = 01 Aug 2008 in every calender system EXCEPT US I believe.
If I create an email and just type 01.08.2008 in it, iCal does the US format - ie 1st Jan 2008 BUT try typing 01/08/2008 and my UK spec setup converts that to 01 Aug 2008, this bug has been partially fixed by 10.5.2
Hope this helps while Apple fixes the rest of the bug.

Changing iCal event fonts

I am using iCal events to populate a calendar. I am also using US holidays. Is there an easy way to set the iCal events to a different font/size/boldness? I have a lot of events, and when they are mixed in with the holidays it is hard to distinguish between the two.

The only way I've been able to mix fonts is to create the text (font, size, color and justification) in another a application and then cut and paste.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

How to share and Access DB (.accdb) with global tables that link to SQL Server tables without having to define ODBC connections on each client PC?

I have an Access DB with quite a few Linked Tables that point to a SQL Server backend db. Currently I am using an ODBC connection defined on my pc, but I want other users to be able to download the .accdb file from a share and run. Will I have
to define this odbc connection on each client's pc? Is there a better way to do this without having to have each client manually set this up on their PC?

I think you can automate that process. In each application I use a one-record-table in the FE with a field Connected. Connected is default False.
Starting a database in the development mode ignores this flag. Starting a database in production mode starts, if Not Connected, a procedure to RefreshLink the tables to the BE, and makes Connected = TRUE, so a next startup does not
result in a new RefreshLink.
Instead of a Boolean you could also use a string containing the path, or whatever you want.

Lost ical events with lion upgrade...how do I find them?

Does anyone know how to get all ical events to appear in ical after a lion upgrade?

This may not help but, I've reached a point where I'll backup everything before ANY kind of upgrade or update and I'll even have two sets of Time Machine backups. I guess you'll have to restore forgetting about the upgrade and retry after refreshing the backup on a SECOND drive, don't allow yur current backup to start a new session at all, you may loose it. Maybe too late, but I just saw this now. Good Luck!

That indicates that the iPhoto database has lost the connection to the high resolution photo - if you have not made any changes to the library (like cleaning uyp, deleting using thrid party software or form the all images list) then rebuilding will probably resolve it - Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto database

A way to share AND EDIT ical calanders online with different pcs and macs?

I have a .mac account which i can use to publish calanders online and for collegues to view.
However, I would really like to find a way for those collegues to not only view my calander, but add to it as and when from different locations.
Some have PC,s and some macs.

I'm not sure about Spanning Sync but I know that with BusySync you can sync different Google accounts to your iCal. Therefore, as long as the calendar you want to sync with is a google calendar (or a colleague with a google account) it will work out fine.
The best way to do this is by syncing google calendars with each other through subscribing to your colleagues calendar. Then individually you both sync those calendars to iCal via whichever of the above programs you prefer.

Datagrid change row event with tab AND/OR click ???

I have a spark datagrid with the last two columns enterable.
The natural approach for the user is to click in one and enter it then keep tabbing from cell to cell row to row to do his/her data entry.
Selectionchanging works only if you click, the selection does not keep up with the tab from row to row.
I want to enter the new data for each row when the user leaves the row.
What is the best way to approach this particular (and common) need.

I think I was not clear enough. Basically I have a textfield assigned with a style, let's say TextFieldStyle1. What I want is to programmatically assign the textfield another style, say, TextFieldStyle2.
How can I achieve that ?

International travel and multiple-day events with time zones

I can't see how I can set an international travel easily as one event, e.g. from 2010-01-11 20:30:00+11:00 to 2010-01-11 07:10-10:00. I can set both as in one Time Zone, but that is not what I want. I want to set as my itinerary from a travel agent says, e.g. the start and end in different Time Zones. Although I can enter the departure and arrival as two events, that is not what I want to do. The air travel is one event, not two.
Also, I often want to set schedules for multiple-day international meetings using the local time of the meetings while my iCal is still in my own Time Zone, but this is not possible. As soon as I select All Day in a new event, the Time Zone option disappears. Of course, I can change my iCal Preferences to use the target Time Zone (instead of my local one) and then set the meeting schedule, but this is not what I want to do. I want to be able to select a different Time Zone for multiple-day events while I am in my own Time Zone.
These are rather common problems in any internatioanl businesses I suspect. It would be really handy to tie iCal with travel itinerary applications. If this is possible, I also would be able to get the information directly from travel agents in iCal format and it is a great potential for developing such applications.
Does anyone know whether these are possible in iCal or whether Apple may be working on it?
I also can't find a Feature Request for Apple, to ask about it. Does anyone know where to find it?

I just didn't get the context here. Do you want to display multiple rows within one Outlook calendar event? If yes, I think it's impossible.
Please reattach the sample which will be very helpful for others to understand your requirement, then possibly provide a solution.

Change iCal event from PM to AM??

I just made an automator event to launch my daily sites everyday and saved it as an ical plugin. now i see that its set for 6 PM instead of 6AM anyway to fix this? thx.

I too wish someone who knows how to alter defaults in apple applications would jump into this. If you look above, you'll see I made mention of finding a similar question which was responded to with a suggestion using Terminal. I didn't want to fool with that but enough time has passed without any better answer that I decided to give it a whirl, changing the command slightly to fit my concern. Instead of defaults write com.apple.iCal 'Default duration in minutes for new event' 15 I entered: defaults write com.apple.iCal 'Default time for new event' 09:00. Figuring maybe that would make the default for new evbents 9 AM. Sadly, nothing happened. I tried several variations but nothing changes. Clearly, I do not know what I am doing in Terminal. And try as I might, I cannot budge iCal's defaults.

Updated iPhoto 11 and cannot open Events with double click or any other way. I can only view those photos by creating an album from all of them, then I can open the album and edit or delete etc. Any one have that problem?

After upgrading to iPhoto 11 and the latest upgrade 9.4.1 (701 67) I cannot open any Event. The normal double click does not work, nor anything else I have tried. The only way I can view the photos in an Event is to make an Album of it, and then I can easily open it with a double click and edit and delete, arrange photos etc. Anyone have this problem. Any ideas about how to open an event?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
