Share between several platforms, dual/multiple boot

Hi here!!
I review a lot of mozilla docs (out dated or without complete info), forums, googling ... about how to share firefox/thunderbird/ligthing data between platforms on dual/multiple boot system.
Every user in same trouble are repeating (copy/paste) in the solution to share the SAME FULL PROFILE on all platforms. I review profile data and folders and I can see files and config data that are platform dependent; then I think that share FULL PROFILE between is not the best approach, for example Linux and Windows will produce several problems (and a lot of problems with the add-ons)
In these same mozilla docs recommends to share only data and maintain custom profile for each platform, but not more info how to do it.
Please can some kind advanced :) provide some info about the correct approach. Or a better tech info about how is possible the recommendation of sharing same profile between platforms without problems. Because with the current doc info, there is no way to get a clear answer (Almost I can't :~).

Thanks, but As I said at first I reviewed mozilla docs too, but mozilla only do mention profiles content or management, but not how to share in multiple platforms or how profile must be created or be treated as cross-plattform.

Some googling and bloging ... a lot of people are saying (repeating coping & pasting same solution), share complete profile between platforms, but this is not correct, in profile folder you can see platform dependent data as in the prefs.js file. And maybe, some schema database issues (but no info about it in mozilla)

The apparent only way to seem is to manually review all .ini and files and review all db schemas ... and manually overwritte they??. But I thin profile is "data", and data must be cross-platform... sure exist some more reliable approach to setup this on sharing platforms.

Best to state your JDev version, and technology stack (eg. ADF BC) when posting.
I can think of 2 approaches.
1) Create a parent VO based on SELECT :bindVar FROM dual, then create links between your other VOs and the parent
2) Create a AM client interface method that programatically sets the bind variable in each VO.
Can you specify your use case? This one tends to come up when discussing effective from/to dated queries.

Codec for HDV to share between apple and pc??

our boss got us 2 G5s and a PC workstation, we can now only share movie files in uncompressed format between different platforms which costs a lot of disk space
is there a CODEC which can be used in both APPLE and PC that encodes HDV in relatively smaller file?

When analog signals are converted into HDV digital data inside the HDV camera, your video is no longer lossless. It's not lossless because HDV is based on MPEG-2, which is not lossless. So, I don't mean to insult you, but your comment is self-contradictory.

HDV is a codec, so the answer is HDV. Or... As I said before, H.264 may be used to further recompress high-definition video.

Can I share one iTunes Library with multiple computers on a network?
note: one library universally shared, not Home Sharing (one library each, shared to each.)
I want to share one library stores on my server and access it through various local computers. When I buy a song from a computer (non-server), I want it to be added to the library (stored on server). I want it to auto copy to my server, for organization. I want to be able to sync my phone from any computer.
Most of this I can do, if i figure out how to use one universal library for all my computers.
Any ideas how I can do this?

You can authorize your iTunes account on up to 5 computers at a time.
However, purchased music is downloaded to the first machine to download it, but these articles have more information on moving your music between authorized computers:

How To Install Platform for Multiple Developers on Single UNIX Machine?

Hello,
     What is the best way to install the WL 8.1 Platform for multiple
developers on a single UNIX machine? These developers may start
concurrent instances.
     The problems I see are that the log files generated by Workshop would
be shared among concurrent users, permissions would need to be set so
that the user that is running the instance that creates the log files
will need to create the file with permissions that everyone can use. Are
there any other issues to doing this?
     I could not find the information on this in the documentation.

I was referring in particular to the logs that are created by Workshop
itself (in the workshop directory). It creates workshop.log and netui.log.

If the developers are each going to start their own server instances then
there should be no issues.
The best option for you is to create multiple domains for each developer.
They will share the same workshop installation, but they will each have
their own instances.

Come on Apple you are suppose to be ahead of the game. This seems kinda rediculous that you can not air drop between iOS7 devices and OS Mavericks if the both support Air Drop, I know they are different platforms but figure it out already.
Also you can not connect/communicate via Blutooth between iOS7 devices and mac. This is been an missing in action for far too long What's going on apple, Give us what we want. such a simple request. I have been asking for years to have some simple way to transfer between handset and comp. Let our mobile divices interact with our computers. HELLO!!!!

Multiple-boot

Has anybody already use the multiple-boot capability of Windows 2000 to install LabVIEW-RT on the hard disk and to keep Windows 2000.
In the operational mode, the system will boot directly with LabVIEW-RT. But for maintenance purpose, I would keep Windows 2000 installed on the disk and I won't use the floppy to boot LabVIEW-RT.
If anybody has experience, I am interested. Thanks.

This has not been tried or tested by National Instruments as far as I am aware. I have read through some of the documentation on Microsoft's website and it appears they only support multiple-booting with their other operating systems. You may be successful setting up a dual boot machine (that does not use a floppy to boot into RT) using third party tools.

Cannot file share between MacBook Pro and iMac, but can Screen Share fine.

Very strange problem going at the minute!
I can Screen Share both ways (iMac - MBP and MBP - iMac) just fine but can't seem to File Share between either computer. They are both on the same network and both have the exact same settings under SysPrefs. I can see both devices in a Finder window and can click the 'Connect As...' button, but once I've put in my credentials, the message in the Finder window changes from 'Connecting...' to 'Connection Failed' in a matter of seconds.
Both have AFP switched on and neither has the Firewall enabled. I also cannot FTP between either computer via 'Connect to Server...', but I can utilise iTunes Home Sharing perfectly.
I've tried pretty much everything I can find on the WWW, but nothing's worked! Help!

I think I've solved the problem now (at long last!).
Somehow, my sharing permissions on my Home folder on either computer won't allow me access. I've tried repairing permissions multiple times, but to no avail.
I've solved the problem by sharing my Macintosh HD, rather than my individual Home folder and I can access everything as normal now.

Managing multiple boot partitions

I Have multiple boot partitions on my mac pro. 1 mountain lion and 1 snow leopard. is there any way to make disks read only to the other bootable partitions?
so for example, when im in one of my snow leopard I dont want snow leopard to be able to write to my mountain lion and vise versa. Please let me know.

iJny9956: Ok. I'll walk you through this best I can over the web. You'll need to go through the whole process twice—once for each OS.
1) Boot into one of your operating systems.
2) Log into an Admin account
3) Launch "Disk Utility"
4) Select the drive or partition containing the operating system you want to make read-only (so, if you're booted into Mountain Lion (ML) select the Snow Leopard (SL) partition, and vice versa)
5) Get Info… on that drive or partition by using the Command-i keystroke, or File > Get Info
6) In the window that appears, look for the line beginning, "Universal Unique Identifier". The long string of numbers, digits and dashes after this is the value you'll need for fstab.
7) Select this long string, excluding any spaces at the beginning or end, and Copy it.
8) Now launch Terminal—you'll find it in /Applications/Utilties, alongside Disk Utility
9) Type: sudo vifs
10) Hit Enter. You'll be presented with a warning if you haven't used sudo before, and then a prompt for a password.
11) Enter your Admin password. You'll receive no visual feedback of the characters you enter—this is normal. Hit Enter.
12) You've now entered a command-line text editor called vim, which has in turn opened the fstab file for you to edit. This is the only recommended way to edit the fstab file, as the text file itself will say.
13) Use your cursor keys and move the cursor to the empty space below the warning text. Press the letter "o" on your keyboard. This will open a new line below where your cursor was, and allow you to enter text.
14) Enter the following text—each entry on the line should be separated by a single space, as I've done here:
UUID=XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX none hfs ro
Instead of entering the "XXX…"s, paste in the value you copied from Disk Utility. Make sure there is no space between the "=" and the start of the value you paste. "none" means the disk or partition should be mounted to the default location, so you can ignore this; "hfs" defines the filesystem being used on the disk or partition; "ro" is the variable that means, "read-only".
15) That's it. Press Escape once, then type a colon:
You'll see this colon appear at the very foot of the Terminal window. Now type:
qw
These stand for "quit" & "write". Hit Enter, and the text editor will save and quit.
And that's it. If you reboot your Mac Pro at this stage and boot into the same OS you were just working in, you should find that the other OS's drive or partition is now read-only. You can confirm this, after you've rebooted, by launching Terminal again and typing:
mount
Hit Enter, and you'll see a list of all your mounted devices. Some you won't recognize, but you should see that the line referring to the other OS's drive will have, "read-only" next to it.
Now, just repeat for the other OS, and you should be done. If you have any questions, post back here. NB: to stop the other OS's drive mounting at all on boot, replace "ro" in step 14 above with, "noauto". If you want to use more than one variable here, separate them with a comma but don't add a space—eg.:
ro,noauto,noexec
In this example, a drive will not be mounted on boot, but when it is explicitly mounted (eg. with Disk Utility) it will mount Read-Only, and with the ability to launch programs stored on that drive removed ("noexec"). This latter can be useful if you use Spotlight to launch applications and don't want to accidentally launch an application on the other OS's drive.

After nearly two years of effort, Nvidia now holds 35% of the OEM market for the Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) K7-platform, Drew Henry, Nvidia’s senior director of platform product management, said during a recent visit to Taiwan to promote the company’s new nForce2 chipsets.
Considering the size of the desktop PC market, Nvidia chose to start its core logic chipset business from the desktop line and has gradually seen results in the past few quarters. However, the company’s clientele concentrates mostly on major OEM vendors like Sony and Compaq Computer, as its nForce chipsets are still regarded as expensive in the cost-conscious clone market.
Nvidia hopes to strengthen its position in the clone sector by improving its product price/performance. The nForce2 chipsets will offer dual-channel DDR memory support, Dynamic Adaptive Speculative Pre-processor (DASP) technology and 333MHz FSB speed while not being priced higher than comparable products from competitors.

Ok so that was not the problem. I installed nvidia-libgl and run the X with same command. The X starts fine and Nvidia is in play. Ouptut from xrandr --list providers is exactly the same.
I tried to compate Xorg.log with nvidia-libgl vs mesa-libgl and it is exactly the same except these extra few lines with mesa:

But these occurr quite often in the log so im my eyes it says nothing.
I checked content of the nvidia-libgl package and compared it to mesa-libgl. Obviously there are more libs to consider not just /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so.
But its weird 'cos the logs could at least point to something.
I believe that without mesa-libgl i cannot run X on intel. But if bumblebee can do it with it then it sould be possible manually too.

You can migrate a copy of the data to a new account, then delete the other person's data from each account. To do this, on the phone that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to keep on the phone, save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. If you have any synced notes that you want to keep on the phone, email these to yourself so you can create new notes in the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud. The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.) When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone. Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom). Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge. This will upload the data to the new account. You will create a new icloud email address with you turn Mail to On.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).

I set up individual Apple ID's for my children so that they could have their own Apple ID on their individual iPad minis (gifts from grandparents last year). When I go to iCloud under Settings, I see my Apple ID listed at the top, then my children's listed under Family Sharing. So the device is still using my Apple ID for iCloud, iTunes, etc., correct?
To "assign" their own Apple ID to their own iPad mini, I would need to "Sign Out" from my Apple ID. When I attempt to do so, I receive a warning that all of the Documents and Data will be lost/deleted.
So, instead of doing this, I figured out that I could do what you suggested. Signing in using a child's Apple ID will allow her/him to use Game Center, FaceTime, and Messages just fine. However, using their Apple ID for iTunes & App Store proved to be a problem: Purchased Music and Movies appeared in iTunes, but my Purchased Apps did not appear. Some Apps even disappeared, e.g. Proloquo4Text (a $99 app to help my son speak with his iPad).
So I reverted to using my Apple ID for iTunes & App Store, and I get everything that I want, EXCEPT for the iCloud storage for each Apple ID.
So that's when I started wondering how Family Sharing was really benefiting me ~ It was a lot of work (deleting apps to allow space to download iOS 8, etc) without any benefit that I can see. UNLESS I find a means to allow me to sign in each iPad's iCloud account with a different AppleID, then perhaps restore the Documents and Data from a backup? Would that work?

When turning PhotoStream on with photos available in the Camera Roll, only photos captured by the iPhone or saved on the iPhone are placed in the PhotoStream.
For all photos that were in the Camera Roll prior to turning PhotoStream on, import the photos with your computer and add the photos to your PhotoStream on your computer.

Hi Rosdy, to get the most out of iCloud it is recommended that you use the same account between devices. Thus whenever you buy something on your phone it becomes accessible from your laptop regardless of whether your synced it over usb or not. *
