Share calendar/address book on mini mac server?

how to install the share function for users on the server`?

All is not lost...
This post covers most of what you are looking for:

However one very important caveat... I would not call the OS X shared Calendar solution a real shared calendar as it has no real multi-user functionality. It is very basic, some might call it butt ugly — that's if I am reading its level of functionality correctly.
Meaning... when you set this up you have to make an extra 'shared' account for the address book (I would make an account with as little rights as possible!) and this account is filled into each client's (OS X, iOS) Address Book application. So if the real user is 'Fred' you don't use Fred's account details when you create the connection to the server Address Book. Make a fake user, e.g. 'CADD' on the server and fill that fake user name & password into the client Address Book app. As I said... ugh.

    3) How do I add more mailboxes to my email to file emails..???
    All assistance geatly appreciated...ty

No you can sync them over a local network or USB cable, you just can't do so by iCloud.
The other option would be to sync your mobile devices with iCloud and use the contacts feature at iCloud.com rather than the Address Book when using the computer.

I am looking to share 1 address book on a Lion Server with 4 other accounts so everybody makes entries in the same book without each account having its own book.
IE: i dont want 5 address books on each machine.
    How do I do this?
Hope someone else knows as I have not found any documentation

I have 2 accounts on my computer. My wife and I don't need 2 address books and .Mac is not the answer.
I would like to know this also.

  • Can two user accounts on the same mac share the Address Book

My wife and I have separate user accounts on the same Mac but we would like to share the same Address Book. I have searched the forums to no avail. It seems silly to use .mac to do so, and a needless expense when the information is already on the same computer.

That's not possible. you have to use Mobileme if you want to share the address book.

  • Dropbox to share address book over multiple Macs?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone is able to share address book between multiple macs using Dropbox. If anyone other has, let me know how. I'm dying to find an alternative to MobileMe and gmail contact sync.

  • Address book Sync with Lion Server

    Hello,
I have set up a Mac Mini with Lion Server and have OD users (no local user on the server). When I login "locally" (using the OD user account), I have my full environment, everything seems to work ok. Also the sync from my iPhone seems to work (only some calendar errors, sync doesn't come up with address book errors). But, as I now have noted, there is not really a sync of the address book. I have an old version of my address book on the server.
How do I properly set up that:
    - my iPhone syncs with my OD user's address book only
    whereas
    -  central address book is kept on the OD server as well (without any sync)?
Or did I get something wrong regarding the concept of running an address book on the Lion server ... maybe it's not possible to sync the iPhone to an OD user's address book?
    Best regards,
    Olaf.

Have you tried rebuilding the accounts in SystemPrefs>Mail, Contacts and Calendars?
Are the machines bound to the directory?
Try setting it up in a fresh account on the broken Mac.
Try setting it up on a different Mac.
    Hope this helps,
    Brian

  • Synchronizing Address Book against a home server

I have a Bubba Two home server setup with Debian Etch, and a Mac Mini.
I want to synchronize Address Book’s contacts against this home server. What is the protocol or method of doing this? I want to synchronize the Address Book on two Macs through this server (and thus have three copies/backups too).
PS: Don’t mention MobileMe. I know what the service does, but I want to use my own hardware.

I have no idea what a Bubba Two or a Debian Etch are, but I created a unix bash script that uses the rsync -vvSauWEe ssh --delete --progress --stats command, and also made a launchd plist file to control when the script fires (you could use cron to automate the launch time, too -- it's deprecated but it still works).
I am running this across the internet at large to sync Address Book and iCal between distant machines. If you plan to operate similarly, then note the -e ssh switch. You will need to set up ssh on all affected machines to use passwordless public/private key authentication. If you search the Unix forum here using the search term ssh-keygen I suspect you will find plenty of info on how to do that, if you don't know about that already. And, of course, if you are running across the internet at large, don't forget about port forwarding in your router.
man launchd.plist and man rsync are some of the better man pages that I have seen. The rsync man page gives pretty good down-to-earth examples of how to use it, in my opinion.

  • I have set up ical and address book on my mac.  We have 2 separate mail accounts but want to sync ical and addresses to both phones can i do this

I have set up ical and address book on my mac
We have 2 gmail addresses and 2 icloud accounts
I would like to share the ical and address book between the 2 phones
is that possible  - any help gratefully rec'd !!

He needs to add your Apple ID in settings > mail, contacts, calendars (as a secondary iCloud account), then check contacts and calendars from the options available.
Note, he would be able to enable mail, reminders etc as well at will. should he wish to do so. If you are OK with that, it should all work as you want it to.

  • I am having trouble trying to get my address book from my mac (just downloaded Lion for this purpose) to my 3G ipad. Set up an icloud account but still confused! Please help !

I updated my mac with  os x Lion so that I could accomplish moving my address book from the mac to my new IPad 3G. I also set up an icloud account for this purpose, but I *still* cannot figure out how to move my address book from one computer to the other. When I'm on my mac and try to use bluetooth to export the address book, I'm able to find my ipad but I soon get a message that it does not support the necessary services. I have no idea what's going on and would appreciate any advice. tks in advance, Sarah

The address book syncs via iCloud, not Bluetooth or iTunes.
You upgraded to Lion so you could use iCoud.
On the computer. go to Apple menu > System prefs > iCloud.
    Sign into your iCloud account.
    Tick everything.
This enalbes the se items syncing to iCloud.
On the iPad, Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Create a new iCloud account.
Sign in with the same AppleID as your computer.
Settings > iCloud and turn everything on.
    BAM!
That is all you need to do.
Your contacts (and all other checked items checked) will sync between computer and iPad.
    No need to use iTunes

  • My wife and I have two different iCloud accounts. How can we share the Address Book?

My wife and I have two different iCloud accounts. I have an iMac OS X 10.7.5 and she has a new iPad.  My Address Book is on iCloud but when she enters a contact on her iPad it goes to her Address Book. We want it to go to mine. We want to share my Address Book on iCloud. How can we do that?

  • How do I share iCal Address book between two iPhones?

    I have 2 iPhone 4S and currently 1 iCloud & iTunes accts.
What I want to be able to do is share the address book, notes, iCal, reminders between the two phones so if i enter a phone #, email &/or event it is visible on both phones, imac @ home & on icloud.
Do I need an 2nd iCloud acct for her?
Also for apps, music, etc would I have to purchase twice for each phone?

Thanks so much for your detailed reply.  Much appreciated!
Just to confirm my understanding that 100% clear on the solution, if my wife gets her own iCloud account, on her phone she'll receive her own emails & iMessages (makes sense) but not contacts.  Calendars though we could share.
Without two separate iCloud accts though -- iCloud on my phone, and her email through Gmail on her phone -- we could share all the common iCloud data (contacts, calendar, notes, reminders, etc.) by enabling the appropriate settings on her phone.
Am I correct to conclude then that the sole benefit of her adding own iCloud acct is email through iCloud (and I guess the free 5GB)?  It would not be possible to simply and easily have one common 'family' address book (i.e. since while Calendars are share-able, contact libraries are not)?

  • Address book "other" on .mac

after long time, my newly .mac account (opened to be able to sync two computers with the same info) decided to show my address book contact.
only, it does not show any fields apart from the standard ones. in particular, any phone number in the "other" field is nowhere to be found.
    any way to configure it?
    any help?
should i get rid of .mac and look for other solutions...?

There is no provision to display information in data fields labeled 'other'—or with custom labels—in your Address Book, on the address book pages of .Mac itself. This information is synchronized through .Mac to other copies of the Address Book on Macintosh desktop and portable computers, but not displayed.
This is a server-side design issue, and the only workaround is to use the labels 'home' and 'work' in the Address Book.

  • HT204150 My contacts on my iphone haven't synchronised with my address book on my MAc. Have done every remedy listed and it still doesnt work. Any ideas?

My contacts on my iphone haven't synchronised with my address book on my MAc. Have done every remedy listed and it still doesnt work. Any ideas?

The way iCloud works is that it isn't actually 'syncing', though this is how it's often referred to. The data lives on the iCloud server and is read from there by the various devices (just like webmail). Therefore when you make a change on your iPhone you are actually changing the iCloud website (there is an internal procedure to allow you to make the changes while you are offline, and they are then changed on the site when you next connect).
Therefore any device whose changes appear on the iCloud site, and who can read changes on the site made by other devices, is working: and any device whose changes do not appear, and which cannot receive changes made by other devices which have appeared on the site, is failing to connect. This appears to be the issue with your Mac.
When this happens, sometimes signing out and in again resets the whole setup and corrects the problem. If another device such as your iPhone is connecting to the iCloud server correctly then nothing you do on it will affect your Mac. (In fact even if it isn't connecting it has no effect on your Mac, only on its own ability to transmit changes to the iCloud server).

  • Synching desktop Address Book with my .Mac Address Book. Is it possible?

Can i sync my desktop address book with my .Mac address book?
    Thanks.

I am also having this problem with my address book synching to .Mac. But my calendar and bookmarks have appeared with no problem so I'm not doing anything wrong -and I haven't created custom profiles either. Do you really think this is due to the lead up to Mobile Me? If so, why did the bookmarks etc sync with no problem? It is frustrating because this is what I really need to access.

  • Can a share certain Address Book groups only using Mobileme?

I'd like to share an address book group called 'work contacts' with a colleague. I managed to allow him to share my address book, but he could see all my contacts. Is there a way to allow him to subscribe to that group alone?
    Thanks,
    Richard

iCloud appears to provide no Address Book sharing. You might be able to do this through Google, but it would be likely to be all contacts or none.
iCloud allows you to share calendars privately (editable if you wish) to other iCloud users or publicly (non-editable) to anyone - they would need a CalDAV client to read it, such as iCal or Google Calendars.
You share individual calendars, so private events should be in their own calendar which is not shared.
