Share Connection

I have the new 4G USB adapter on a laptop running Windows XP. I want to share that connection via WiFi to other devices. When I turn on Internet Connection Sharing, and try to create a network using the Windows Wireless adapter, it tells me that a third party software is controlling my WiFi.
The VZW Access Manager used to allow you to share your connection out WiFi, but it doesn't look like that option exists any more.  I have the VZW Access Manager software set to connect to WiFi networks too.
The laptop is a thinkpad, and there is software on the thinkpad to join a WiFi network, but that software doesn't seem to have an option to create a network.
Is there a hidden setting in the VZW software to allow the connection to be shared?
Any other tips would be appreciated.

Hello toddtmw,
Although this a process that we don't support, I did find a link with screenshots that can help you with this process. Prior to attempting these steps, you will need to disable wifi on VZ Access manager. The steps on how to do this will vary depending on what version of the VZ Access. If you have version 5.7 or older, you will have to rerun the VZ Access Manager CD and change the detection process to WWAN device only. If you use version 7.0 or later, go to option > preferences. Unchecked all the options that offered wifi

  • Cannot Maintain Stable Screen Share Connection New MacBook Pro

I am having some difficulty maintaining a stable screen share connection. It just keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. It has nothing to do with my network as I have tested it from 5 machines and it's only this one.
Has anyone else experienced this with the new MacBook/ MacBook Pro's?
    I have  MacBook Pro - 15" 2.53Ghz/4GB RAM/320GB @ 5400RPM
    Thanks,
    Dean

A little update. I have found what caused this.
When my MacBook Pro was trying to Screen Share to my iMac it would ONLY drop out when connected to this particular machine. The iMac is a 24" Aluminum 2.4Ghz it is running @ 1920 x 1200 with a 23" Apple Cinema Display connected to it @ 1920 x1200.
When I mirror the display the screen-share connection stays stable. Only when I change it to Extended does this issue occur. I am wondering if any other users have experienced this? Possibly it could be a bug in the OS as it doesn't like multiple displays during screen share.

  • Have a MacMini that is dropping NFS Share connections, Using cifs://servername/path however the NFS Share is dropped everyday without fail.

Have a MacMini that is dropping NFS Share connections, Using cifs://servername/path however the NFS Share is dropped everyday without fail.  Is there a better way to setup this share?  I've got 5 other Macs that use the same NFS Share and none of them are dropping the shared connection.  This is on OSX 10.9.x Maverick.

cifs:// is not NFS cifs:// is effectively SMB i.e. Windows filesharing, NFS is Unix filesharing, furthermore cifs:// is a way of forcing Mavericks to use SMB version 1 protocol. Normally you would use smb:// which will default to trying to use SMB version 2 protocol.
Saying all that, SMB version 1, SMB version 2, and NFS should all normally work fine. It is possible that the server may be configured to disconnect idle users although one would expect this to happen with other users as well. It is perhaps more likely that your problem Mavericks Mac maybe going to sleep periodically, while asleep the connection to the server maybe being lost. Apple's own server software has specific cleverness to allow clients to sleep and resume their connection when they wake.
Therefore it might be worth checking your Energy Saver settings on this Mac and disabling computer sleep.

  • Share Connection or Bridge Mode?

Hi - I recently got a 1TB Time Capsule to hook with my Verizon DSL modem. My modem is set up using PPPoE with username/password. The past week I had it set up as to Share Connection. What's the different between Share Connection and Bridge Mode in TC? My modem does DHCP and distribute IP addresses. The only problem I saw was when I set up TC to do the share IP addresses, I got the Double NAT error.
So my real question is: with Verizon DSL modem, should I use Share Connection or use TC in Bridge Mode?

After much confusion with Verizon's Tech Support, I finally gave up and canceled my DSL and went with Comcast - which made things so much easier. Once I reset the TC and got Comcast hooked up, I was up and running. I'm sending the modem/router back to Verizon. Thanks for answering my post - I'll remember that.

  • Share Connect icon

Share connect icon keeps popping up in my dock when I log in and I get an "connection failed" message. How can I stop message from appearing and icon from bouncing in my dock upon logging in?

Hello, sounds like you have an Automount Share, I'd drag it off the Dock & replace with a Dynamic one...
Mount that Share once, then once the Globe Icon shows up on the Desktop, drag that Globe Icon to the right side of the Dock between Applications & Trash. You now have a Dynamic Mount, a quick click on the Icon in the Dock will connect you.

  • How to connect a EE 4G HUAWEI E5776 to Airport network and share connection

    Help Please!
We live in a rural area with poor <6MBS down <1MBS Up Broadband. I have purchased a Huawei E5776 on EE in the UK and can get 16MBS down and about 14mps up.
Now my problem, large house with 1 Aiport Base Station and 3 Express repeaters share the network around the house. Does anybody know how I can get the Huawei on the wireless network so it can be repeated and used throughout the house? PS I also use 3 Apple TV V2 and various other internet devices.
Many thanks for any help I have tried all I know and guess it might be down to correct use of IP address and router address but as of now Im stuck. Please keep it to the level of advanced amater not IP professional!
    J

You would need to connect the wireless modem to a Mac equipped with Ethernet and share the WWAN connection over Ethernet.
OS X Mavericks: Share your Internet connection
Connect the Ethernet port to the WAN port on the base station. Configure the base station in bridge mode.
AirPort Utility 6.x: Set up a base station or AirPort Time Capsule as a bridge

  • Can't get Mini and Powerbook to share connection

I have a Mini, running Leopard, and a Powerbook G4 running Tiger, and recently got high speed internet. I've never had high speed before, so I am REALLY new to this. I have modem that I plugged into my Airport Base Station and can get the signal on both computers, but they won't share the connection. What am I doing wrong? I've had other computers share the connection before, but these two won't... Help please!

    Some more info may help....
-Did you use both computers with the Airport and a standard dialup internet acccess before?
-What other 2 computers shared before? Both wirelessly?
    -Does 1 computer work?
-What kind of high speed do you have now, cable, DSL, etc? When it was installed, did you do it, or a technician? Was it proved to work on at least 1 computer?
-What modem are you plugging into the Airport?
-You say both computers get signal; is this just from observing the "fan" icon on the menu bar?
-When you say share, do you mean just both computers using the internet connection, or do you also mean file sharing between the 2 computers?
-Which model Airport base station do you have? How was it configured?
-Have you looked at the Network Preferences on the computers to see what the settings say?
Hopefully this is solvable with enough information.

  • Recieve and Share Connection through airport

    hello,
I staying at a very big house, and the wifi here does not extend to my room. We have 2 iBook G4's and I was wondering if there is a way to recieve the connection on one iBook, and with the same one broadcast it through its airport card. Whenever I try to share the connection it wont let me be connected to the internet. any suggestions of programs or tips that will help me do this?
    Thanks
    Zack

I stand by what I said: "A laptop with a wired connection can share the Internet through it's wireless card or vice versa." That means they can both:
    1. connect wirelessly to the internet via Airport
    base station
    2. connect via ethernet to other computers on a LAN
and share that airport based internet connection with
    the other computers ?
I have not tried to do what you are suggesting but it should work according to this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107484
I have DSL but am considering dumping it as
sharing an airport connection is far cheaper.
You still need an ISP so if not DSL what would the Airport share?
it is possible to have both airport and
ethernet active as far as that goes.
They can both be active but unless you enable Internet Sharing from Airport to Ethernet in the Sharing System Preference it won't happen.
    Office Mac A (static IP)
Why use static IPs? If they can't find a DHCP server they will default to being on the same subnet (169.254.x.x). Internet Sharing assumes the clients will be using DHCP.

  • Screen Share connection problems

I have an iMac and a MacBookPro on my home network. I used to be able to share screens between them quickly, trivially, painlessly. For a while now, though, it never (or rarely) works. Not sure, but possibly began after I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
    Setup:
    Snow Leopard on both computers
ADSL Modem -> Airport Extreme -> Wireless connection to MBP and iMac. (both are within seven meters of the Airport Extreme
    What happens?
I'll try to connect and it just says "establishing connection" forever. Eventually it might say "Connection Failed" but not give any other diagnostic.
Everything else works ok -- shared time capsules, access to the internet, etc.
Advice on how to debug this problem? I tried it last night w/ a brand new MacBook, and had the same issues.

Make sure that both ends are set to Screen Share (as in, receiving), and make sure both can "see" the other.

  • MacBook Pro Disk Share Connection Failure

I have a MacBook and a MacBook Pro on an n-only wireless network hosted by an AEBSn in bridge mode.
The MacBook computer connects to the disk share without fail from within the local network or from the Internet. The MacBook Pro cannot connect from within the local network but can connect from the Internet.
    Any thoughts?

    craigsma,
You have a disk error that must be repaired. Boot to your OS X install disk, open Disk Utility, and run the "Repair Disk" function.
Unfortunately, this will repair your file system, and allow you to make a backup of your important data (maybe), but it will not repair damaged system files. Since it seems, from the problems you are having, that you definitely have damaged system files as a result of the disk error, you are going to have to format that disk, then reinstall OS X.
What you have experienced is a really, really common occurrance, and no call for alarm. It doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with your HD, but rather with its catalogue of files (which is damaged). It is especially common to see this with new computers, so there you are.
I recommend that you choose the "Zero All Data" option when you do format. It will take a while longer to format you disk this way, but doing so will map out any bad blocks on the HD, which may or may not be the root cause of your disk error. Using this option will help to insure that you will have no further disk errors in the immediate future.

  • AP Express wont share connection between computers PLEASE HELP!

I have a powerbook G4 connected to a wireless network I have created. I can connect to the internet wirelessly through the airport, but when other other computers try to join they are brought to the sign in page of my ISP. Previously, I had the airport set up so as long as one computer had signed into my ISP all the other computers could share this connection. How do I change the settings on my airport to get this working again? Basically, it seems like all the computers can join the network no problem, but since my ISP only allows one user to log in at once only one computer can access the internet and the other computers are stuck on the sign in page. Ive tried changing the settings in the airport utility to distribute ISP addresses, but when I restart the airport none of the computers will connect to the internet. Can someone please help???

    Ive tried
changing the settings in the airport utility to
distribute ISP addresses, but when I restart the
airport none of the computers will connect to the
    internet.
You need to have the Airport distribute IP addresses via NAT sharing the single address which your ISP gives you. As this is not configured then you will experience the sign in page problem you are having.
Configure the Airport to distribute IP addresses, restart.
Once it has restarted, see if a computer can connect to the internet.
If not in a browser try http://17.254.0.91
    and report back.

  • Easy Windows Share Connecting

    Hello forums!
I have recently convinced our "hardware guy" at work to buy a new MacBook for work use. He had been interested in trying out OS X for a while and when the opportunity came up to get one, he jumped at it. I am sorry to say that he is less than thrilled with the level of control that he has over the operating system and is less than flexible in learning new ways of doing things. One of the ways that he is used to connecting to Windows shares is by opening a new Explorer window and just typing "\\NameOfShare\SharedVolume". He knows that he can browse through the network, but REALLY wants a way to quickly and easily open up a share. Does anyone know of any apps out there that will accomplish something similar, possibly even allowing a Windows convert to type "\\NameOfShare\SharedVolume"?
    Thanks in advance!
15" PowerBook G4 1.25GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   3 years old and still going strong!

From the Finder, choose Go, Connect to Server. In the Server Address: space type in:
    smb://NameOfShare/SharedVolume
Note forward slashes, not backslashes. In *nix variants backslash is an escape character. Type in your password, and the share will be mounted on the desktop.

  • Messages screen share connection issues

    Greetings.
I have three Macs:  a MacBook Pro (mine)  at site A, and two iMacs at site B (friends).  All three have Mountain Lion.  All three have their firewall turned off.
I am seeing strange issues when trying to screen share.  I can share my screen, but I cannot successfully request to see theirs - connection/port issue.
Also, if they attempt to share their screen from their side: no go.
Why would it work one way but not another?  Is there a port being blocked on either of the two site's routers?

I finally isolated what the problem was after several days of trouble shooting this problem. I am not going to go into any trouble shooting specifics, but here is what the solution was:
    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
    2. Choose View > Sharing.
    3. Click the Firewall tab.
    4. Click New.
    5. Choose VNC from the Port Name pop-up menu.
    6. Click OK and close system preferences
I am really befuddled as to why I only had to use this solution on the G3 Tower B/W since it had Mac OS X 10.4.11 installed on it just like two other Mac’s my local network.
