Share desktop with Microsoft Lync

Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to share desktops with Microsoft Lync peers?  I would like to be able to view as well as share my desktop.  I have a working pidgin sipe configuration, but haven't come across any documentation indicating pidgin can work like lync (share/view desktops).
Any other ideas as to what I might try?
Thanks,
Walter

Thanks Holger. That blog is a bit over my head but also helpful. I had my network guy check our configuration on our Edge and 3478 UDP is open in both directions for the A/V service and IP so not sure what the issue is. As for our firewall, anything over
1024 should be allowed out.
In this particular incident, Microsoft sent me the meeting request and I initiated the request by clicking on the link in the email launching my locally installed Lync client. Microsoft tech then made me the presenter at which point I had the option to share
my desktop. It's at this point that the connection drops.
I turned on Centralized logging and clicked on the meeting invite from Microsoft one more time. The tech at the other end was not there of course but I did generate some traffic that I was able to view using Centralized logging. I determined that the traffic
is most definitely going through the Edge server at least in this situation.
I did find an error in the log that was interesting and have a question on. The error read:
ms-diagnostics: 1017;reason="Cannot route From and To domains in this combination";summary="Cannot route between the source and destination domains because
partner discovery is not enabled";external-domain="microsoft.com";external-type="domain-type-remote";internal-domain="mydomain.com"
";internal-type="domain-type-local";source="My edgeserver.com"
ms-edge-proxy-message-trust: ms-source-type=EdgeProxyGenerated;ms-ep-fqdn=fqdn of my Edge;ms-source-verified-user=verified
I took a look in Control Panel and under Federation and External Access --> Access Edge Configuration -->Enable partner domain discovery is NOT enabled. I am thinking
I should not have to have a Federation with Microsoft to have a Lync meeting and share my Desktop, correct?
I don't think turning this option on is a good thing because it looks like it will automatically establish a Federation with anyone and you lose control over which companies you want to Federate with.

  • How do I share desktop with Lion user?

So prior to installing Mountain Lion, I provided tech support to my mom by sharing her desktop via iChat. Now though, I can't figure out how to share her desktop. I'm using Mountain Lion, she still has Lion. So she doesn't have Messages and I don't have iChat. I can't even send her a text message, because Messages says she's not registered with iMessage. All the documentation I can find about sharing desktops on Mountain Lion says that you can share desktops with someone else on your same network, but I can't find anything about sharing desktops over the internet like we used to do with iChat. If I can avoid walking her through installing a VNC client, I would really like that.

    Hi Wade,
You seem to be describing an @me.com name that you used for iChat and was a MobileMe and now is an iCloud name.
This "Account" should be active in Mail, Contacts and Calendars for Messages
    Uploaded with Skitch!
As far as the AIm Servers are concerned the @mac.com name and the @me.con iCloud Name  are in fact separate AIM Screen Names.
If your Buddies are in the @mac.com Buddy List they will not appear in the @me.com name you have linked it to at Apple.
That is to say If I had an @mac.com and an @Me.com name  AIM would see them as separate Screen Names.
    One stage further:-
    ralphjohnsr (AIM registered name)
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    are three separate AIM "Accounts"
(They are also three separate Buddies if you were adding them to Your Buddy list - although only one of them is real)
You said your mother does not have Messages.
Only Messages can send iMessages  (The Apple iD you have set up for this may or may not be an iCloud ID)
    iChat cannot accept iMessages.
If she has iOS 5.x.x on her iPhone (depending on the level of technology you have managed to get her to embrace) then you could send her iMessages that way.
    SO...
Your Message > Preferences > Accounts  should list the iMessages "Account" and those iChat ones you had
    Uploaded with Skitch!
An iCloud name that is the iMessages Account name may also need to be added as an "AIM" iChat type Account.
If the Jabber ID is only used at work and is not going to be used then you can untick the Messages item next to it in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars or Untick the "Enable this Account" in Messages > Preferences > Accounts.

  • Integration of CUCM 8.5 with Microsoft Lync 2010 issues

    Hi All,
We have integrated CUCM 8.5 with Microsoft Lync 2010 (both Mediation and front end server on Virtual machine on same location) on lab environment, and which is working perfectly on both ways (Two way calls with no issues). But, when we tried configuring the same on live environment, we have no two ways calling between Lync client and IP phone endpoints. Our Mediation and front server are in U.S and CUCM 8.5 cluster are in India and lync clients are in India region, connected via MPLS link and all the traffic ports are open. The following are the configuration on both sides:
    CUCM side:
•- Created Direct SIP trunk with MTP enabled.
•- Assigned Mediation server IP address to Port 5068.
    •- TCP enabled
    LYNC Side:
•- Followed the steps from Cisco Lync integration document through cisco website.
Are they any other configuration requires, when the servers are in different location?

You configure the CUCILync client as a shared line.  You then tell the CUCILync client what to control either the desk phone or use the CUCILync client itself.  When CUCILync controls the phone it is not registered in CUCM.  CUCILYNC will still give a screen POP when the desk phone is controlled.

  • Cannot share desktop - Lync 2013 server and Windows 8 (64-bit) client

Currently my new Lync server cannot share a desktop through a Lync 2013 client installed on a Windows 8 workstation. The client is patched up with the latest MS patches (much beyond the patch issues noted about a year ago, the patches in question do not
    even show up as installed).
I get the same "An error occurred during the screen presentation" message. I do have a NVIDIA video cards on the workstations, but they too are patched up. The same systems have no issues sharing desktop screens in the Lync 2013 client on Windows
8 systems when they are connected to a Lync 2010 server.
I have no idea where to go from here. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Did this issue happen to other Lync 2013 client?
As you mentioned that you can used the same Lync 2013 to sharing desktop screen when it connects Lync Server 2010 while you couldn’t share desktop screen when it connects to Lync Server 2013,
I think it is related with Lync Server.
Please check if you can find any errors on Lync Front End Server.
Check all Lync server services are all started.

  • I want replace my desktop with a iPad to do emails and Microsoft office work. Can this be effectively done? What's the downside if any?

I want replace my desktop with a iPad to do emails and Microsoft office work. Can this be effectively done? What's the downside if any?

I'll go down your list one by one.
    1. Access mail - which I know that the iPad can do.
    Enough said.
    2. Save an excel or word or ppt of PDF attachment for review.
You can view these types of documents natively on the iPad as Tgara has mentioned.
    3. Open an review and maybe change a excel or word file.
There are many apps that allow this.  I personally prefer Apples iWork programs, Pages, Numbers, Keynote.  They tightly integrate with iCloud.
    4. Resave such above files.
With Pages, Number, Keynote you can save/resave files in iCloud and locally.  Also you could use dropbox to save your files on dropbox and provide a way for you to share a folder with coworkers/family and they can add/view/review files from there and you can see the changes on your device.
    5. Reply to a mail attaching a file.
This is possible in many ways.  From dropbox, or another app you can email files with the share button.
    6. Be able to rename files and store them in specific folders.
This goes back to dropbox/iCloud.  iOS doesn't really have a traditional file system.  If you save a PDF it isn't saved anywhere you can just open it.  You would have to open an app that supports view PDFs and select the PDF you wish to view.  The same goes for documents, spreadsheets and etc.
Hopefully this helps answer your questions.

  • Sharing a Printer With Microsoft Remote Desktop

How do you set it up?
The printer (Epson Stylus Photo 820) is connected through USB to an Intel iMac.
I control a Windows XP Pro PC from the iMac through firewire with Microsoft Remote Desktop and it works fine (although I can't get it to share the internet connection.) I have turned printer-sharing "On" in the iMac Preferences. I have also checked "Printers" in the "Connect automatically to these local devices when logged on to the remote computer" dialog box of MS RDC.
When I go to Add Printer in Windows, I search for a printer and get a tree view with "Microsoft Windows Network" on top and "WORKGROUP" under it. I try to input the printer name, but it tells me it can't find such a printer.
If I go to the Epson control panel under Windows, and click on ports, it shows the name of the iMac on four separate ports, and if I activate one of them it shows the Stylus 820.
    But then it doesn't print.
    Any ideas?

  • How to add shortcuts to user Start Menu and Taskbar or Desktop with using Microsoft Office 2013 Config file.

    Hello,
How can i add the shortcuts for Office 2013 feature (Word, excel, ext) to the users taskbar or desktop with using config.xml file while installing the Microsoft Office 2013 from SCCM?
I know how to do that with OCT, but i have another problem if i use OCT. So i have to do it with Config.file, but i don't know which code can i write on config.xml file to create shortcut on desktop or taskbar...
    Regards,

    Hi
There is a known issue about
changing the shortcut location for an Office 2013 application:
When you try to change the shortcut locations for Office 2013 applications in the Office Customization Tool (OCT), you receive the following error message:
Invalid start in folder. Please try again.
Then, you add the Start in location for Office 2013 and run a customized installation. When you double-click the shortcuts that are displayed on the desktop, Configure shortcuts does
not work and you receive the following error message:
Sorry, we couldn’t find your file. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?
To work around this issue, type a single open bracket ([) in the Start in
    field.
In addition, refer to the link below on "Configure shortcuts" in OCT:

  • When I'm using a browser (like Safari) in Yosemite, how can I shrink it and share my desktop with other applications?

I have an iMac, and after installing Yosemite (OS 10.10), all my browsers (like Safari) no longer share the screen with other applications, like Word or even Calculator.  How can I shrink Safari (or any browser) and share my desktop with other applications?

When I'm using any browser (at the moment, it's Safari), I am unable to resize the window.  The browser BECOMES my entire desktop.  And if I open another application, suddenly the browser vanishes to the right, so I can only see the other app.  AND my dock disappears into a solid black space below the screen, which I can penetrate with my curser (after dragging the curser back and forth above and below the black space until the dock eventually reappears.  But if I select any app in the browser to open, then Safari vanishes instantly to the right of the screen.  I've tried to resize Safari (and Firefox and Chrome) by moving the curser to the bottom right of the browser, but that old standby doesn't seem to work anymore.  The browser takes up all of the screen, except for a small portion of the top, where my curser can reveal Safari's old menus, and the bottom of the screen, which is entirely black until I can locate my dock by dunking the curser up and down in the black ooze.
I really want the old convenience of my Mac, where several programs can open side by side, but Yosemite seems to have precluded that possibility.  What can I do?
