  • Missing BIOS 26.4 file for MSI H97M ECO motherboard

The BIOS 26.4 file seems to be missing from the download page for the MSI H97M ECO motherboard - I get an error when clicking on the link in the UK download site.
I have installed the 26.3 file instead and I am getting very strange fan rpm on the ECO Center Pro tool - sometimes is shows around 700-800 rpm which is probably correct but it also shows much higher numbers such as 24,000 or 50,000 rpm!

The bios has been removed that's why. Global just shows 26.3 being latest: http://www.msi.com/support/mb/H97M-ECO.html#down-bios
Wait for MSI to fix it and re-release it. Usually versions are removed for a good reason (e.g. a bug).

    Hi,
I have the annoying problem with my new video card: a screen is periodically blinking in 2D. Probably that problem already solved in a newest BIOS?
I have to use "Legacy" mode because of my PC does not start otherwise.

Decompress the attached .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (xxx.rar) and put the included file (TVxxxxx.zzz) on that stick.
    Rename TVxxxxx.zzz to zzz.rom.
    Put the atiflash.exe from: https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2306/atiflash-4-17/
on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 zzz.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

  • Mod GOP BIOS for MSI R9 270 Gaming

I'm curious. Will the above work for card other than MSI? I have an XFX Radeon R9 270X and I'd love to get UEFI GOP support on it.

Alright, I followed the directions and the provided file bricked my XFX Radeon. Fortunately I was able to navigate my way into the USB drive 'in the blind' (no video output) and I had my original VBIOS on my ATI FLASH device and was able to restore to my original.
So what I decided to try next was modifying MY original bios by manual inserting the UEFI GOP partition into the VBIOS. I flashed it, and now I'm very happy to say that it's working!!!
It's taken me DAYS to figure out how to do this - so I'll make a shortcut for anyone who needs it. I grabbed the attachment above and I dumped my origin VBIOS. Then I used HxD to hexedit the dollar sign (or whatever it is) to 00 (indicating that there is GOP driver available on the device), and then I directly copied the information from the provided VBIOS for the MSI card into the VBIOS for my XFX card.
Or you can just follow the guide, that I followed - http://www.overclock.net/t/1389206/do-you-want-uefi-gop-on-your-7950-7970-i-can-add-it-to-your-bios/120#post_20172963
I held my breath, flashed the new VBIOS, and rebooted. To my surprise and excitement -  I was instantly greated by the MSI BIOS picture. I then let out a huge sigh of relief and configured Windows 8.1 mode. From what I can tell - everything is working great! First boot into Windows took forever, and Windows PNP had to reinstall the AMD driver.
Other than that, everything went very smoothly :D
I'm now gonna let my computer sit for a couple hours and run some basic CPU, GPU, and RAM stress tests to make sure that everything is working correctly. I'll report back when I have the info
EDIT: Swap filing refuses to work after this (no idea why). But considering that I have 24GB's of RAM, I just went ahead and disabled it anyways. NOW everything works correctly! Gonna try some games now - see how they perform

  • Msi h97m-g43 error 9c and error 99 on restart or reboot...

First time building a new pc with an MSI board and am having a total nightmare using an h97m-g43. Works fine until a reboot or restart then it hangs every time with a 9c or 99 error even when no usb devices are attached. Power down and restart and all is fine but from a reboot or restart is hopeless and will fail every single time. This pc was built as an htpc as it seemed like an ideal mobo to use but I'm regretting it big time!

It's in a small htpc case so only using a 250watt psu which should be plenty for an i3 4150 using the onboard gpu. This has to be a bios issue because if you power down and back up again it boots up fine but will not restart at all from within the os (tried windows 7 and 8 - both the same and throw a 9c error and refuse to reboot even with no usb devices connected).
I cant remove the m.2 drive and test without it as its the only drive in the pc (htpc so silence and low power draw was my aim).
Few other issues I've noticed are during a windows 8 install the graphics are garbled via hdmi after setup completes and you have to go back into bios and set 512meg or lower for the gpu shared memory to get a display once you reach the desktop (doesn't happen on win 7 install), f11 boot menu wont show usb devices most of the time unless you get lucky - same with dvd/cd media. I think mostly the bios is a mess and needs a metric ton of work - thinking of junking the board and replacing with an asus or similar if I can find one that supports M.2 seeing as I have already spent the money for that drive! :(

  • MSI B85M ECO Unboxing

Recently my dad had been chattering around of buying a brand-new PC since his PC was cracked down. My dad’s used to browse on the internet, watch vedio and play some games only. I think he doesn’t need a high end computer.Luckily,I had borrowed CPU, hard disk, disk drive and memory from my friend. Obviously,it seems that I have to cost some money on motherboard.
Roaming around in the PC selling center, besides the general seen brand, there are some gaming,OC blah blah blah…….My eyes got blizzard and couldn’t see the difference among it. At this moment, I saw something pretty interesting. Let me take a front side picture of this.
▲The front side picture of this box
Wow!? I don’t know the eco-friendly awareness had come to this stage! Buy one motherboard can also make some contribution to the world!
▲The back side of this box
I spent a lot of time staring the spec introduction. After the inquiring from the sales,I ended up buying it home! I immediately took some photo of open boxing.
    ▲Accessories
    ▲Take another photo
Well, product manual ,computer cables,disc…..this box has everything!
▲The front side photo of the motherboard.
The design within green and white looks high-quality,especially for the green eco logo in the middle!
▲The side plug hole of the motherboard
The slogan”Doing More with Less” is really eye-catching. My dad was also curious by this slogan saying that it may save some electric charge.
    ▲Successfully turn on the computer
Fortunetely, the computer was successfully turned on! The second step is installing the windows for dad. I’ll share how I feel of using this board if having any chance afterwards.

If there's white PCB ECO motherboard, I would want one too

  • Where's the doc for MSI mode?

Edit: I don't need an answer to this, I found the problem.
Where can I find the doc to enable/disable it? it says it is "enabled by default", but my managed servers fail to start if the Admin Server is not running (the problem is in the ODSI AppListener, I'm trying to investigate that).
    Looking on this page :

“Disable Managed Server independence” in Administration Console Online Help
Edited by: mikereiche on Feb 3, 2010 12:08 PM

    Disable Managed Server independence
    Before you begin
The server instance for which you want to disable MSI does not need to be running.
When a Managed Server starts, it tries to contact the Administration Server to retrieve its configuration information. If a Managed Server cannot connect to the Administration Server during startup, it can retrieve its configuration by reading configuration and security files directly. A Managed Server that starts in this way is running in Managed Server Independence (MSI) mode.
By default, MSI mode is enabled.
    To disable MSI:
    1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
    2. Select Environment > Servers and click the name of the Managed Server instance.
    3. Select Configuration > Tuning and click Advanced at the bottom of the page.
    4. Clear the Managed Server Independence Enabled check box.
    5. Click Save.
    6. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).
    After you finish
If the Managed Server is running, restart it.

  • Gaming mode and Ent M

Is there a significant difference in processing power in Gaming and Ent mode ? for example i always leave it at Ent mode even when gaming, will some EAX effects or 3d effects be missing or would EAX even activate on Ent mode when gaming ? coz i really like the sound of my MP3's under Ent mode w/ EQ off and i've been tweaking the EQ in gaming mode to reproduce the sound quality i get in Ent mode under gaming settings.

Definitely switch to Gaming mode before you launch the game, it means you'll be able to activate any EAX options the game has, and if you use headphones you will be able to use the CMSS3D-Headphone option aswell.
If you're in Entertainment Mode, and you launch a game, you may find that the audio options are limited and the full EAX setting for the game is not available (or is greyed out).

  • Missing MSI files SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3

I have hit an issue while installing Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 R2. The existing version is
    10.50.4295.0 (SP2+CU9)
When running the SP3 file the following error occurs
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:
The cached MSI file 'C:\Windows\Installer\91a4f43.msi' is missing.
Its original file is 'sql_engine_core_inst.msi' and it was installed for product 'SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 Database Engine Services' from '\\ServerName\Share$\SQL\SQL105\ENT\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\', version '10.52.4000.0', language 'ENU'.
To resolve this problem, recover the missing file from the installation media and start setup again.
For more information about how to resolve this problem, see 'Steps to restore the missing Windows Installer cache files' (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=144387) in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
    Error code 0x84B20002.
The next I tried to remove CU9 before applying SP3. The following error occurred when CU 9 was attempted to be removed.
The cached patch file 'C:Windows\Installer\483c7040.msp' is missing.

    Hello Alberto,
    I tried this link
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969052
Using the VB script FindSQLInstall I tried getting some details about the missing MSI files. Just sharing the details incase you may have some details or better insight on what it says.
!!!! C:\Windows\Installer\91a4f43.msi DOES NOT exist in the Installer cache. !!!!
Action needed, recreate or re-establish path to the directory:
\\Servername\Sharename$\SQL\SQL105\ENT\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\then rerun this script to update installer cache and results
The path on the line above must exist at the root location to resolve
this problem with your msi/msp file not being found or corrupted,
In some cases you may need to manually copy the missing file or manually
replace the problem file overwriting it is exist:
          Copy "\\Servername\ShareName$\SQL\SQL105\ENT\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\sql_engine_core_inst.msi" C:\Windows\Installer\91a4f43.msi
It points to a location that doesn’t exist in the central server (servername) from where usually the installation media is present. The folder structures were re-arranged and the path mentioned (\\Servername\ShareName$\SQL\SQL105\ENT\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi)
    is no longer there.
Now from where do I copy this particular .MSI file? I've tried using search option but I'm unable to find it.
One more update is that I was successfully able to do the SP3 upgrade on another server which was SQL Server 2008R2 SP2 (No CU on it)
    Hi Jayakrishna,
After your above steps, please put the SQL Server setup media on the same path
\\Servername\Sharename$\SQL, then run the VB script again and it will recreate the MSI file on the path C:\Windows\Installer with the name “91a4f43.msi“.
If the error still occurs, then you can manually restore the missing MSI file following the steps of Procedure 2 in this article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969052 .
In addition, we recommend you use local copy of media to install SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3.
    Thanks,
    Lydia Zhang

  • Laptop-mode-tools no longer adjusts LCD brightness

I just discovered that laptop-mode-tools no longer adjusts the brightness of the LCD when switched to battery. This is not a general issue. laptop-mode is active on battery (as well as being enabled via the systemd service), the computer knows it is on battery (checking with on_ac_power and reading from /sys/class/power_supply/*/* give the expected results) and other things are correctly adjusted e.g. bluetooth is blocked with rfkill. Moreover, as root I can adjust the brightness in the usual way by hand:
    echo 10 >| /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
works just fine. The >| is needed because for interactive shell's, root's .bashrc sets noclobber. This obviously doesn't affect laptop-mode tools because it doesn't run an interactive shell. In contrast:
    $ cat /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/lcd-brightness.conf | grep -v "^#"
    DEBUG=1
    CONTROL_BRIGHTNESS=1
    BATT_BRIGHTNESS_COMMAND="echo 7"
    LM_AC_BRIGHTNESS_COMMAND="echo 10"
    NOLM_AC_BRIGHTNESS_COMMAND="echo 12"
    BRIGHTNESS_OUTPUT="/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness"
DEBUG wasn't 1 when the problem started. I tried setting it to get more info but haven't found anything more in the journal/logs.
KDE is set to not touch the default brightness at all. All it does is (further) dim the display after so many minutes depending on the power supply and status.
This did work fine but I haven't been on battery for a while so I'm not sure when exactly it stopped working. My brightness is set by default to 12 on boot or wake from sleep which suggests laptop-mode tools does something or something else is now handling this which I'm not aware of. But the switch to battery does not trigger any alteration in the brightness and laptop-mode status does not even mention LCD brightness as one of the things laptop-mode tools controls.
Have I missed a change in how this is handled somewhere?

I doubt this is related but it is currently my only lead so here goes. I set the LCD brightness control for debug so I've been trying to watch it. However, so far it is all smiles e.g. on boot it all works fine and says so.
However, I found I'm getting another error on boot which is
/usr/share/laptop-mode-tools/modules/pcie-aspm: line 10: write error: Operation not permitted
Note that I copied that by eye from VT1 so if a colon is out of place, that's why.
The contents of that file is:
    #! /bin/sh
    # Laptop mode tools module: PCIe Active State Power Management
    if [ x$CONTROL_PCIE_ASPM = x1 ] || [ x$ENABLE_AUTO_MODULES = x1 -a x$CONTROL_PCIE_ASPM = xauto ]; then
    if [ $ON_AC -eq 1 ]; then
log "VERBOSE" "On AC power: setting pcie_aspm to default"
    if [ -f /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy ]; then
    echo default > /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy
    if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
log "VERBOSE" "PCIe ASPM set to 'default'"
    else
log "VERBOSE" "PCIe ASPM tweaking is prohibited by the kernel"
    fi
    else
log "VERBOSE" "PCIe ASPM is not available"
    fi
    else
log "VERBOSE" "On battery: setting pcie_aspm to powersave"
    if [ -f /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy ]; then
    echo powersave > /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy
    if [ $? -eq 0 ]; then
log "VERBOSE" "PCIe ASPM set to 'powersave'"

    else
log "VERBOSE" "PCIe ASPM power savings module is disabled"
    fi
So I assume it is saying it cannot write to /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy but the permissions etc. on that, at least, don't look strange:
    l /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/
    total 0
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Gor 25 21:24 ./
    drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Gor 25 21:23 ../
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4.0K Gor 25 21:24 policy

  • 15 inch early 2011 Macbook Pro to Mid 2010 27 inch Imac Target Display Mode

    Hi Guys
I have a early 2011 15" Macbook Pro with thunderpolt port aswell
as a Mid 2010 27" iMac with MiniDisplay port.
I am trying to use the iMac as a second screen for my Macbook.
Both has Mountain Lion on them.
I have both Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt aswell as miniDisplay to MiniDisplay
    cables.
I can't get target display mode to work.
The thunderbolt cable doesn't work at all.
The MiniDisplay does seeem to work to an extend but not completeley.
When i plug in the MiniDisplayPort cable to both machines then
the Macbook pro screen becomes blue which means secondary monitor detected.
iMac screen becomes blank. Sometimes i have enough time to see in system preferences that
the Macbook pro actually has a secondary monitor.
But just as it turned blue on the Macbook pro and black on the iMac. It turns blue again
and the iMac returns to it's Desktop.
The exact same happens when i Press Command + F2 on iMac keyboard.
    Any help or ideas?

I have a 13"macbook air and a Dec. 2012 iMac 27". Out of the blue it stopped working in Target Display Mode. Switching cables doesn't help, and the iMac and MBair are connect to power. I can see the iMac screen in Share Screen mode on the MB air.
This seems to be an issue, I have encountered eg. in MacRumours:

I have the same issue with my 2012 27" iMac (3.4, 680MX). When I initiate Target Display mode the iMac goes black and never comes back up. On the laptop I can see the display in Display Preferences, but its as if the backlight doesn't come on in TD mode. (I even did screen sharing into the laptop and can see both displays there.
Anyway, called Apple and they determined its an issue and I have to send in for a replacement.
Anyone else with a 2012 iMac (21.5 or 27), can you please test out Target Display mode and let us know if things are working or not?
