Share iCal on LAN, between iCal apps

The question is quite simpel:
how do I share iCal agendas between Macs on a Local network (LAN)?
I assume the answer is quite simpel, but I just haven't found it.
thx for replying!

Hi,
A couple of options, and it depends on how you are defining "share":
1. If each user wants to maintain their own calendar, and then share calendars with other users, the solution would be to Publish your Calendar file to a Server, and then each User would "Subscribe" to the other user's calendars. If you have not done this yet, it is more simple than it sounds, but you do need a location for publishing the calendars. There are a few different options for Publishing, including Apple's .Mac service. There are also free iCal hosting services, such as www.icalx.com.
2. If you want to maintain one calendar, and keep it synchronized between users, you would use the Sync feature of the .Mac service.
Hope that helps,
ML

  • How do I share files on iCloud between different apps?

    Hi,
how do I share files on iCloud between different apps?
I would like to edit simple plain text files on my Mac and my iPad using different apps. They don't see the content of each other. How do I fix this?
    example:
when I create a .txt files:
Byword on Mac syncs nicely with Byword on iOS.
Ulysses 3 on Mac syncs nicely with Daedalus Touch.
BUT, cross-sync is not possible.... :/
How can I change this? - I would like to work with Byword on my Mac and Daedalus on the go.
    Thanks in advance!

Cross-sync only works if an app on the iDevice allows it.  For example, some apps (editors) sync with Dropbox (icloud usually isn't the thing to use) but only in their own folders.
If you save a file from the mac to it's own folder, A, on dropbox and on the device you use a different app that uses its own folder, B, then you won't be able to reach folder A on the device.
One thing to look for in editors that support Dropbox (most do, on a device - clearly all do on a mac) is whether they access dropbox using the root folder.  From there you can drop down to any subfolder and reach the files you want.

  • How do I share iCal Address book between two iPhones?

    I have 2 iPhone 4S and currently 1 iCloud & iTunes accts.
What I want to be able to do is share the address book, notes, iCal, reminders between the two phones so if i enter a phone #, email &/or event it is visible on both phones, imac @ home & on icloud.
Do I need an 2nd iCloud acct for her?
Also for apps, music, etc would I have to purchase twice for each phone?

Thanks so much for your detailed reply.  Much appreciated!
Just to confirm my understanding that 100% clear on the solution, if my wife gets her own iCloud account, on her phone she'll receive her own emails & iMessages (makes sense) but not contacts.  Calendars though we could share.
Without two separate iCloud accts though -- iCloud on my phone, and her email through Gmail on her phone -- we could share all the common iCloud data (contacts, calendar, notes, reminders, etc.) by enabling the appropriate settings on her phone.
Am I correct to conclude then that the sole benefit of her adding own iCloud acct is email through iCloud (and I guess the free 5GB)?  It would not be possible to simply and easily have one common 'family' address book (i.e. since while Calendars are share-able, contact libraries are not)?

  • I have an iMac with 10.9.1 and an iPhone 5 also updated to the newest system and I cannot get a sync set up between Ical and the iPhone or Outlook 2011 mac calendar with the iphone

I have an iMac with 10.9.1 and an iPhone 5 also updated to the newest system and I cannot get a sync set up between Ical and the iPhone or Outlook 2011 mac calendar with the iphone. I would perfer using outlook but will settle for the Imac calendar

It depends on what iMac you have. If it is an old PPC (G4 orG5) iMac then no further upgrades are possible. If it an Intel iMac:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

    Hi, there:
Could someone please be so kind to teach me how to sync Notes, iCal & Address Book between my iPod Touch (with iOS6) & Mac (with OS X10.6.8)?

  • How to set iCal as the default calendar app again?

So, reluctantly I bought and installed MS Office 2008 for Mac because OpenOffice was not a solution...
However, now Entourage seems to be set as the standard application to handle ics files, although I clicked yes when iCal asked me if I wanted iCal as my standard calendar app.
Nevertheless, whenever I receive an ics file in Mail (generated by Thunderbird Lightning extension) and I click on the ics file Entourage opens instead of iCal, as it used to be.
Any hints on how to tell Mail or OS X or whoever's responsible, to handle ics files with iCal?
BTW, I already tried downloading the ics file, Open With and selected iCal and "always open with" or however it is called in the English version.

Actually, I don't want to use any third-party app here. This should be possible with built-in OS functionality...
Maybe I have to reboot? But I hoped I'd let that behind together with windows

  • Can i share an iPhoto library between 2 computers ???

Can i share an iPhoto library between 2 computers, it I store my library on a AS drive connected to an AirPort Extrême Base Station ?

    on a AS drive
Do you mean NAS drive? No.
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Will it be wireless? That's good for viewing but...
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

  • How can I share a static field between 2 class loaders?

    Hi,
I've been googling for 2 days and it now seems I'm not understanding something because nobody seems to have my problem. Please, somebody tell me if I'm crazy.
    The system's architecture:
I've got a web application running in a SunOne server. The app uses Struts for the MVC part and Spring to deal with business services and DAOs.
Beside the web app, beyond the application context, but in the same physical server, there are some processes, kind of batch processes that update tables and that kind of stuff, that run once a day. Theese processes are plain Java classes, with a main method, that are executed from ".sh" scripts with the "java" command.
What do I need to do?
"Simple". I need one of those Java processes to use one of the web app's service. This service has some DAOs injected by Spring. And the service itself is a bean defined in the Spring configuration file.
The solution is made-up of 2 parts:
    1. I created a class, in the web app, with a static method that returns any bean defined in the Spring configuration file, or in other words, any bean in the application context. In my case, this method returns the service I need.
    public class SpringApplicationContext implements ApplicationContextAware {
         private static ApplicationContext appContext;
         public void setApplicationContext(ApplicationContext context) throws BeansException {
              appContext = context;
         public static Object getBean(String nombreBean) {
              return appContext.getBean(nombreBean);
}The ApplicationContext is injected to the class by Spring through the setApplicationContext method. This is set in the Spring configuration file.
Well, this works fine if I call the getBean method from any class in the web app. But that's not what I need. I need to get a bean from outside the web app. From the "Java batch process".
    2. Why doesn't it work from outside the web app? Because when I call getBean from the process outside the web app, a different class loader is executed to load the SpringApplicationContext class. Thus, the static field appContext is null. Am I right?
So, the question I need you to please answer me, the question I didn't find in Google:
How can I share the static field between the 2 class loaders?
If I can't, how can I load the SpringApplicationContext class, from the "Java batch process", with the same class loader my web app was started?
Or, do I need to load the SpringApplicationContext class again? Can't I use, from the process, the class already loaded by my web app?
I' sorry about my so extensive post...
    Thank you very much!

    zibilico wrote:
But maybe, if the web service stuff gets to complicated or it doesn't fulfill my needs, I'll set up a separate Spring context, that gets loaded everytime I run the "Java batch process". It'll have it's own Spring configuration files (these will be a fragment of the web app's config files), where I'll define only the beans I need to use, say the service and the 2 DAOs, and also the DB connection. Additionally, I'll set the classpath to use the beans classes of the web app. Thus, if the service and DAOs were modified in the app server, the process would load the modified classes in the following execution. You'll almost certainly have to do that even if you do use RMI, Web services etc. to connect.
What I suggest is that you split your web project into two source trees, the stuff that relates strictly to the web front end and the code which will be shared with the batch. The latter can then be treated as a library used by both the batch and web projects. That can include splitting Spring configuration files into common and specific, the common beans file can be retrieved from the classpath with an include. I regularly split web projects this way anyway, it helps impose decoupling between View/Controller and Model layers.
On the other hand, you might consider running these batch processes inside the web server on background threads.

I am unable to sync my iPhone4S iCal to my Mac iCal. Snow Leopard is my OS and it does not support the cloud. What do I do?

To makeuse of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • How do I share a keychain list between two shared Lion computers

How do I share a keychain list between two Lion computers; my wife's MacBookPro and my MacPro. We have Airport.

See answer below. (Note: this is not a question about iTunes Home Sharing so it should have been asked in the Mac OS X Lion forums.)
For security reasons you can't share keychains like that since each user's keychain is encrypted and protected by the user's password. Sorry, there is no convenient way to share Keychains.
Now, that being said, the Keychain file is stored in the following directory, ~/Library/Keychains/, and called 'login.keychain. You could conceivably use file sharing, or some other method, to send your 'login.keychain' file to your wife's computer and she could conceivably use the 'Add Keychain…' command to add your keychain to her Keychain app but I think it gets messy doing that. Also, she would need to know your password to access that file but, between spouses, that may be a non-issue.

  • Share a Referenced Library between 2 Macs

    Hi there,
Sorry if this has been asked before.
Recently I am planning to merge the two libraries from my 2011 iMac and 2012 MBPr. Currently I have an individual Managed Library on each of them, where the library on my iMac stores all the pictures, and my MBPr's library only contains those pics that I thought are nice and were exported into it from my iMac. The problem is, as the files on my iMac pile up, it is getting insanely slow at startup and loading files. It has come to a point when I want to empty the Aperture library on my iMac and store it elsewhere on an external drive. I would like to also share this library with my MBPr to save up SSD space, but I want to make it a Referenced LIbrary, where I can view the pics on my MBPr even when the drive is disconnected, and since that working with a managed library via USB2 on my iMac seems like a beach-ball-forever game. I reckon that a managed library would be as easy as dragging the library in finder to the external drive, but building a referenced library seems a little tricky to me. So, any ideas how I can do it?
Second question is, what drives would you recommend? I am looking at HGST Touro S 1TB which is portable and has a 7200 rpm drive. The down side is, its USB3 only works at its maximum speed with my MBPr, but not the old iMac that only has USB2. Is USB3 + Firewire 800, 7200 rpm portable drive an option? I really haven't seen one that supports both of them at a reasonable price, not to mention the ridiculously overpriced thunderbolt drives which give negligible advantage on speed compared to USB3 when using traditional HDDs.
TL;DR: Can I share a Referenced Library between 2 macs? If so, how?
TL;DR2: What external drives would you recommend?
Thank you very much in advance!

There is, but it's very limited.
    1. Put the Library on a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    2. Point both machines at it.
    3. That's it.
    But remember:
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
    Also
Only one user can open a library at a time.

    Hi Mitesh,
You need to have valid transportation lanes from the supplier. Maintain it manually. If I remember correctly it is possible to have External Procurement Relationships in APO only (type 4) and not just contracts, purchasing inforecords or scheduling agreements CIFed from ECC.
    Hope this helps.
