Share iCal on one iMac with tow accounts

I've one iMac with two user accounts on it (me & my wife). How can setup iCal so, that my calendar items in my user account are the same like those when me wife is looked in her user account. I don't want use MobileME or iPhone to reach that. Is it possible to share the same DataSet for tow different accounts on the same iMac?
thanks, Gino

  • How to sync one iCal across one iMac with one iPhone

    My iCal is a mess.
I have been trying to sort out duplicate events, many duplicate holidays including duplicate calendars by following instructions in the forums, no luck only making a bigger mess.
I have saved iCal to my desktop so I don't lose all my info. ln the past I have just ignored all the duplicates and lived with it. It may have to do with my syncing preferences. I think I have three places to look at the options for syncing. Preferences in iCal on my computer, Mobile Me preferences and iTunes.(info) sync all calendars. I have set preferences in all three places to sync calendars. Maybe I should not have.
I hope that someone has the time to explain to me how I can rebuild my iCal and sync it between my computer and my iPhone. It is not a complicated network. I am not sure if I have given a clear picture or enough information. I really do not want to lose any information and would like to keep old events in my iCal.

I am sorry for posting this question. I was frustrated and looking for a quick fix. There are not many answered questions in this forum on this topic and the ones that say answered I bet are just marked answered. I marked mine answered as well so as to not waste time and to just get to work on fixing it.

  • Share calendar on two Ipads (one Imac with two users)

    Hi community,
I'm looking for some help and where to look for if not here. Let me quickly describe my setup at home and what I try to achieve.
My partner and I have both their own iPad and iPhone. There is one iMac where we live. We are using it together but each of us has it's own user account on it and therefore it's own Itunes library. Both of us are using the iCal calendar on the iMac which we sync with our iPad and iPhone.
So there is one iMac with two users on it. Each user syncs his iCal with his iPad and his iPhone. What we would like to achieve though is that we can cross-share our iCal calendar. So that my partner can see my calendar items on her iPad and iPhone and vice versa.
We do not have a google mail (calendar) account nor are we using iCloud.
Every help is very much appreciated.

    Dear Dah,
I now have two iPads, which I also (need to) have separate AppleID's for. I understand I can share apps between them if I authorize iTunes on my iMac with both ID's, but I am not quite sure about the correct way to do that. I already have the iMac authorized for AppleID#1. If I go into iTunes and click on Store/Authorize this Computer... and enter my AppleID#2 information into Account name and Password boxes, does this authorize my iMac's iTunes for BOTH ID's or does it just change the authorization from ID#1 to ID#2?
If the former is correct, I understand the way to proceed is to xync up both iPads to iTunes and then I can drag and drop apps from one iPad's library listings to the other, right?
If this is not the correct way to get dual authorizations, what is?
    Thanks!

  • How do we sync contacts and calendars (ONLY) between two iCloud accounts, two iPhones and one iMac with two user accounts?

This is complex.  Until today we had one iMac with two user accounts - one for me and the other for my wife.  We sync'd our calendars and contacts between our two user accounts using my iCloud account, thereby keeping our schedules coordinated and our contacts information always the same between us.  Also, as I had an iPhone, I sync'd my phone with my iCloud account, thereby keeping the contacts and calendars in the two user accounts on the iMac AND my iPhone sync'd.  (I also sync'd other things, like Notes and Mail and Safari settings, between my iPhone and my user account on the iMac, but my wife did not want to be burdened with all my emails showing up in her email account and I wasn't interested in hers, etc., so we didn't sync anything between us other than calendars and contacts.)
We've finally bought my wife an iPhone and set up an iCloud account for her.  And of course she now wants to sync several items from HER account on our iMac to HER iPhone, but I don't want them, just as she doesn't want all of my other stuff.  But we still want our mutual calendars and contacts to sync to HER new iPhone, just like they already do to mine.  But I can't figure out how to CHANGE her iMac user account from using MY iCloud account on the iMac to using HER new iCloud account, and then having HER iCloud account speak to MY iCloud account but share JUST our calendars and contacts.
Originally I tried a workaround by simply having her iPhone log into my iCloud account.  That works great for the calendars and the contacts.  But...she can't sync anything else from her iMac account to her new iPhone because she's presently "forced" to use my iCloud account.  And neither of us want to sync our other things to each other's iMac accounts or iPhones.  Also as we're both using my iCloud account, in things like the Find My iPhone app, the Cloud is seeking two phones labeled with my name and none with her's.  So we definitely don't want this as the set-up and communications network between our devices.
We want to set up our users on the iMac to sync to our SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT iCloud accounts and then have those iCloud accounts sync calendars and contacts (ONLY) between themselves, and then push that data to our separate iPhones (or the other way, from either of our iPhones to the individual accounts on our iMac and the other person's iPhone).  Does this description make sense to you?  I've diagramed it nicely using Keynote, but even thiough I can draw it, I can't figure out how to set up and configure all the devices to make it work.  If you would like me to send the Keynote slides (just two of them - the current and desired configurations - please send your email address to me at [email protected] and I'll be happy to forward it to you.
If anyone can help me set this up I'd be most appreciative!  Thanks so much.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all readers in this community!

    BobT.
I had the same problem, and decided to look into it last night.
First of all, the solution I would like to have is for Apple to allow for selection of iCloud accounts per application, i.e. Contacts to one, Photo Stream to another. I believe this would be the most straight forward solution for the problem we are facing.
Since this is not an option I came up with a workaround. I was most interested in solving this for Contacts, so this is what I tested for. Now I have all 3 devices with the same contacts.
    1) Turn off iCloud for Contacts on all devices. On the device that has the Contacts list that you would like to propagate to all others select to keep the contacts, and on the others select not to keep them.
Note that the current backups still exist on iCloud, so in case something goes wrong you can still turn the iCloud for Contacts back on to get your current Contacts back.
    2) In iTunes, sync All Contacts with the phones, starting with the one with the Contacts content you chose to keep.
From this point on, the 3 devices should sync contacts with each other.
This, of course, will stop your iCloud backups of Contacts, but I don't think this is really needed. You are already storing copies of your Conacts on 3 devices, which for good parts of the day are likely not all co-located. You also potentially have Time Machine backups turned on, which would mean there is a 4th copy there as well. For the case of Contacts iCloud only complicates matter ... that is until Apple implements the solution I first wrote about.

  • How do you share music on one iMac between users???

    Hello,
I would like to know how to share music on the same computer between users...
My wife and I have different user accounts on our iMac and I can't figure out how to share music.
I tried everything as told by Apple but it seems you can only share music on your iMac with a network. If that is what I understand...
I just want to have all the music on my user account and when my wife is on her user account I want her to be able to view the photos.
Again, we are only using one iMac.
Thank you for your help in advance...

Copy the iTunes folder and the iPhoto library to the /Users/Shared/ folder
you mean copying the library files as well, right?
    Yes.
the situation is, my wife and I both have iPhones, with our respective accounts (contacts, apps and all). we have separate accounts on our iMac. I want to share the music and photos on my iTunes, so her iPhone can have the same music and photo selection.
    any suggestions?
    Yes. Do as suggested above.
Each user can select their own content to sync.
Contacts and calendars will be from each user's computer login.
You can select different photos, movies and music to sync

Does it have to be an applet?
If you want the same behaviour as in the code with traffic lights, change
    class MortgageApplet extends JApplet implements ActionListener {
    to
    class MortgageApplet extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
    and change
    public void init() {
    to
    public MortgageApplet() {

    Hello kmcnern3,
Thank you for providing the details of the calendar issue you are experiencing with your iMac and iPhone.  I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Troubleshooting on OS X" in the following article to assist with syncing your calendar events between your devices:

  • I have one iMac with 2 users. Will Home sharing allow me to share music between users? (running Mac OS 10.8.2

I just seemed to get turned around when trying to share music on the same iMac.
How do I share music between two different users with two different iTunes accounts on the same iMac. My wife and I simply want to be able to share music that she purchases with me and visa versa. We each have our own iPads and I am unsure of the proper way to do this so I don't messup the syncing of our iPads.
Part of the reason I ask is that I see questions concerning two different computers. Does it make any difference that I am trying to share music between two users on the same iMac
Thank you in advance for information helping me to understand the Home Sharing process.

Hi, one question & one suggestion...
What possible things are connected at home but not at the store, inlude every cable, etc.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • One iTunes account - for a MacBook, an iMac with 2 accounts and an iPhone

I am trying to put all of my purchased song tracks in the cloud for use on all of my devices.  So far, it seems to be working with syncing the tracks to my iphone from my MacBook and from one account on my iMac.  The other account on my iMac which has the same Apple ID and password, doesn't seem to be syncing. I get the message below when I try to set it up.
Any suggestions?  I have two accounts on this particular iMac - a personal account and a business account but I purchase all music with my one Apple ID/password.
    Thanks!

Seems you've inadvertedly associated your mac with another Apple ID for automatic downloads and past purchases. This means you can't link it with another ID for 90 days. Here's an article on the subject:

  • Share iCal on same mac but different accounts

What is the easiest way to "share" iCal with two users on the same computer. My wife has an account as do I and I attempted to export but only exported one file and not the whole calender from my wife's to mine. Do not want to publish to internet. Is there something I am missing?
    Thanks

    KitChaos,
You could try BusySync: Multi-user editing — BusySync allows multiple users to share and edit calendars with full read-write access. Changes made by one user are instantly synchronized with all others on the network. http://www.busymac.com/
Or investigate the less expensive suggestions listed in this macosxhints thread: http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-71101.html

  • ITunes - one iMac, 2-3 accounts

We have migrated from Mac to PC back to Mac again over several years.
I have an ITunes account and my Husband has his own account, with my daughter soon to also have her own account. All of us have iPhones/ipods/ipads.
I have been looking into the best method of being able to manage all our iTunes content on our new iMac in the most simple way, whilst still maintining our individual accounts on our devices. Ideally, we would like to be able to share our content across our iTunes accounts using the one user logon on the iMac.
Everything I have been able to find on this forum so far points to the need to set up separate users on the iMac, and then juggling the settings to allow sharing.
Is there any simple way at all that we can have one user login for the iMac, and access the three separate iTunes accounts under that one iMac user account?

You'll need to clarify what you mean by "access separate iTunes accounts". That could mean a hundred different things.
To get all of your content into one iTunes library, simply import the content into iTunes. iTunes will just mix them into the library together.
When you access the iTunes Store, you may have to frequently log out of and log in to different accounts, but it's nevertheless usable.

  • Is it possible for two people to use one iMac with iPhone and iPad separate iTunes and iCloud acc?

Apologies if this is a very obvious question. I have one iMac that my husband and I use, he has an iPhone that he syncs with the iMac via iTunes for app such as docs to go. I recently purchased an iPad, I want to also sync with the iMac. Is it possible to use two iTunes and two iCloud acc to one iMac? We would like to pick and choose what we sync as we keep separate docs etc on the iMac, can this be done?

Yes.  Just set up your own account in System Preferences > Accounts (User &groups in Mountain Lion).  You'll have your own seperate everything including mail.

  • One iMac, two OSX-accounts and one iTunes Match, how do I get it to work?

I have one iMac to work with and two different User-Accounts for my daily business. I use iTunes-Match and I would like to use it on every User-Account. On the forst Account I already acitvated iTunes-Match succesfully. But on my second User-Account it refuses to work. If I start-up Match in iTunes it compares the files (at least iTunes tells me so) and after that I am back at the beginning, where I shall click "start".
Something doesn´t really work here. Is it because it is impossible to use multiple User-Accounts on a Mac with the same iTunes-ID and iTunes Match? I am not talking about different iTunes-Accounts! I am talking about the same iTunes-Match-Account on two different User-Accounts of Mac OSX

    There we go...
On the first user-account iTunes Match is working fine. No problems on that.
What I did on the second User Account:
    1. I logg on to the second user account
    2. starting iTunes
    3. selcting iTunes Match and then "activate"
    4. after I enter the corresponding Apple-ID, iTunes Match starts to compare the lokaly saved music with iTunes Match which takes about 10-15mins (Step 1 through Step 3)
    5. after that, it shows me the button "finished"
    so far so good
If I press the button "Finished" it jumps back to the initial Screen, where it starts over with Step 1
    That loop never stops.
So there is something not quite working at all.
Is that better to understand? I don´t think, that screenshots will help at all, as there is now difference to the coorect messages. There are no error messages
