Share music and apps in one household

Just got my wife an iPhone.  I've had one for years.  Can we share music and apps I have purchased?

Yes

  • Can my wife and i share music and apps if we are synced to the same computer but have different apple id's?

I recently authorized my iphone to my wife's imac and synced them so we could share music and apps. Can we both still use separate apple id's to purchase apps and music and still share them?

Unfortunately, apps and music purchased under one Apple ID cannot be shared with a device on a different Apple ID.
    Sorry Kappy, not quite true:
Here's how to do so using different computers:
Transfer what content you want to the separate iTunes library on each computer. To transfer content from your library to your wife's library so that she can use it on her phone or from your wife's library to your library, do this:
    1. Launch iTunes under your wife's login.
    2. Sign her out of iTunes & then you sign in.
    3. iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Disable auto-sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected.
    4. Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC!
    5. Store>Authorize this Computer(only have to do this once).
    6. File Transfer Purchases(all of the purchased content on your phone will be transferred to your wife's library).
    7. When complete, eject your phone, sign out of iTunes, sign your wife back in.
You can now sync whatever content you want to your wife's phone. Just remember, all updates to apps obtained using your account must be done while signed in using your account: sign wife out, you sign in, update apps, you sign out, sign wife in, sync her phone.
This way you can share content(permitted under the EUSLA) and still maintain your separate logins. Do the same on your computer if you want to share content from your wife's library.
Just load whatever content you want to share on each others phones, transfer the content, then delete it from the respective phone if you don't want to keep it there.

  • Can I create a separate icloud account for my husband but still use the same itunes account?  I want our contacts, photos and storage capacity to be separate but be able to share music and apps we purchase.

Welcome to the Apple community Pammy.
Yes, that's exactly what I'd suggest for the vast majority of users.

  • Seperate iCloud accounts share music and apps?

My wife, son, and I have iPhones. How can we all have seperate iCloud log ins on the accounts but share our iCloud music and apps we buy?

Yes. On each phone, log in to iCloud using the AppleID for that phones owner, and log in to the iTunes Store and AppStore using the AppleID for the shared account.
    Settings > iCloud > Account
    and
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Sign Out then sign back in again with the shared AppleID.

  • HT204053 do i gtve each of my children their own apple id But continue to share music and app purchasesWithout sharing contact and imessages

How do i create a new apple id for each oh my chidren Without causing them to lose shared music and apps? But that will allow each of us our own contacts, & imessaging

Delete your account in 1. "Settings > iCloud" + 2. "Settings > Messages > Send & Receive" + 3. "Settings > FaceTime", but still let them using your account for iTunes and app purchases in "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Of course, please make sure that they do not know your password to set up your account for iCloud again or purchase anything alone.

  • In order to share music and apps but not calls and messages, should two iphones have different or the same apple id?

My sister started an itunes account when we were younger and she first got an ipod. Later I got an ipod touch, so we thought it was smarter that I use the same account so we can share apps and music. Since then my sister has gotten an iphone, my mom has gotten an ipad, and i have kept my ipod, with all of our devices on the same account. Now I got an iphone, and im wondering if i should keep the same account or if now is a great time to get a new one. Im not sure if you can have both iphones on one account without confusion with messages and whatnot, and likewise im not sure if you can have two accounts with shared purchases. Any advice?

    Yuu can also
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.

  • Different accounts, same itunes, still share music and apps?

Hi, my mum currently has an iphone and that is connected to her own itunes account. Im thinking of getting an iphone, but if i get one will i be able to create my own itunes account but still share the apps and music? we will be using the same itunes on the same computer. So can we still share the apps and music but have seperate itunes accounts?

All of the msuic and apps purchased from the iTunes Store are tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase them. So, if you use another Apple ID you won't have access to the other purchased content, unless you purchase it with the 2nd ID as well.

  • Can you copy music and apps from one iTunes account to another?

My nephew got an iPod touch for Christmas and for some reason my husband decided to add it as a new device to my iTunes account and purchased games and music and put these onto the iPod.  So now he has access to my password, etc.
What I really want to do is set up a new iTunes account for my nephew, but will I be able to transfer his games and music purchased under my account onto his new account or will we lose them all?

This Apple article will walk you through changing the Apple ID -> iOS: Changing the signed-in iTunes Store account
And this one will walk you through creating a new account -> iTunes: How to set up an iTunes Store account (Apple ID)
You won't be able to transfer the apps to the new account, you'll have to purchase them again with the new account.

  • I have iTunes on 2 PC's. Somehow I wound up with 2 Apple ID's. I would like to combine the music and apps under one ID so that I can synch with my iPhone 4 and iPad. Can this be done?

I had a WIndows XP desktop and Laptop. Each had iTunes installed. When moving from iPhone 3 to 4, I acquied a second Apple ID. I want to migrate all of my playlists, downladed songs, podcasts and apps to my new sesktop (HP 64-bit, WIndows 7) and make that my headquarters for iPhone and iPad 1. Is it even possible to combine my media and get it together on my hand-elds? If yes, please enlighten. Thanks in advance.

I think I will do this.  I will use my apple ID and set face time and message to work independently.  That solves one problrem.  My other problem and maybe my bigger problem is that if I am using my apple ID, how do I iflter all of this so that my kids don't see my contacts, get my apps, etc. ?

  • How do I use home sharing for music and apps from different devices that already have Apple IDs?  We have music from CDs and iTunes.

We have a iPhone 3G used as an touch, a 4S and 2 5s that I would like to share the music and possibly the pictures but i dont know how to set it up since we all have our own Apple IDs.  Please help.

Do you have a computer. You can't share music or apps from one mobile device to another. To share photos you need to use photo stream shared albums.

  • My husband and I have separate iTunes accounts and multiple devices (iPads, iPhones, iPods etc) how do we share our music and apps between our devices if we have different iTunes accounts.

Help! My husband and I have multiple devices (iPad, iPhone, iPod ) that we we have linked to individual iTunes accounts ie he has his account with iPad, iPhone, PC and iPod linked/sync and I have my account with iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, PC etc.. How do we share our music and apps across/between our accounts?

It probably means that only one of you can use iCloud or at least sync calender/contacts with it. I would guess that you could manually manage the other phone as you have before.

  • Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own? If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps? How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own? If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps? How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two? also I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?

Is it possible to have your whole family on one apple id or is it better to have each person have there own?
Yes, it is possible. 1 apple ID can be associated with up to 10 devices.
If each has their own does each id have to buy their own music and apps?
    Yes, all purchases are non-transferable.
How does find my iphone work with one apple id or two?
Every device associated with one apple ID through Find my iPhone is tied to that Apple ID; Find my iPhone will work in the same way with up to ten devices associated with one apple ID. You cannot enable Find my iPhone for one device across two apple IDs
I am going to be going off to college soon should I make an itunes id for my self and how will I get all the music from the old id?
If you have authorized a computer with the old apple ID, you can transfer old media purchased through the old to other devices via iTunes. This doesn't mean the media purchases through the old apple ID it transferred to the new account. If you plan to make future purchases and don't wish to share them with others, make your own apple ID.

  • How do I share in the music and apps that my children have purchased, but maintain my own identity?

How do I share in the music and apps that my children have purchased, but maintain my own identity?

You don't. Everythng downloaded with one Apple ID can not be transfered to another Apple ID. So you would need to buy it a second time. This is one of the Pit Falls of the whole Download only model.
That is why I refuse to buy things like music or movies that are tied to a specific User Name, ID.
