Share music Library with 2 itunes users???

There are two people who use the same iMac - can we both have our iTunes looking at the same music library.... So all of our songs are combined in the library but we can use our seperate log in details and seperate iTunes. Dont really want to have to upload everything twice to each user..... Thanks

Thanks - I dragged itunes music folder to the shared folder from the first user and that was ok, however it says do this for every account, when i try it it says folder called itunes music already exists do you wish to overwrite, which i dont as id loose all the songs from the first user..
I seem to want to mix the songs together and both look at the same folder from our separate itunes accounts...

  • How to share music library with other users using it's own iTunes hdd

I have 183 gigs of music on my computer. I have it all on it's own hard drive not the OS or "C" drive. I'm pulling my hair trying to configure other users on my computer to access the music on windows Vista
Cant find any info to help tell me how to do that when the music is on it's own HDD. Can anyone help?

I don't think you have to drag anything anywhere.
Let's just say your music is on a drive named G:
I assume you've set its permissions for everyone. I also assume you can already listen to the files from the G: drive in itunes on your account - so you don't need to consolidate anything; iTunes is already working on your account and you just need to set some other users up to do the same.
From the section named "On Windows"
You're already at step 3, so continue with you add them to their library.

  • How do I organize a huge (120GB , but alot of duplicates) music library with iTunes?

How do I organize a huge (120GB+, but alot of duplicates) music library with iTunes?  Thanks!

If you do not want the duplicate files, maybe the best thing to do first is to eliminate as many duplicates as you can..
You can use iTunes: View/Show Duplicate Items
Or you could use one a script

  • Can I share my iphone music library with itunes?

I currently have several apple TV's, music librarys, airport speakers and everything works fine with sharing the way I have it set up.
There are two issues that i would just like to confirm -
1 - I would like to share my iphone library with itunes and have it show up under "shared"  it doesnt seem to be possible.  I understand that i can play all my shared itunes libraries on my iphone but dont seem to be able to share the music that is on the phone itself.
2 - I seem to only be able to select one airport express speaker set when i am playing music on my iphone. Multiple speakers seem to NOT be an option on the iphone.
    Thanks
    James

Copy the entire iTunes folder from your old computer to your new one using one of the methods discussed here: iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer.  If you no longer have the old computer and you have to transfer it from your phone, you will have to purchase and use third-party software to extract the music from your phone, such as Touch Copy  or CopyTrans.

  • Using one music library with multiple user accounts

I want to use one Music Library and be able to have all my computer user accounts be able to access it. Article 93195 does not work for some reason. It is easy to share music over a network but not on the same computer? This can't be. I have talked to several Apple "Geniuses" and they all scratch their head. One guy could do it in Leopard, but not in Tiger. Could it have something to do with the permissions of the Itunes Music Folder? Any help would be appreciated. This is driving me crazy.

    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Drag your entire *iTunes folder* from /Username/Music to /Users/Shared.
    3 Log out.
1 Log in on your other account(s).
2 Start iTunes and immediately press an hold the Option key.
3 iTunes will ask to *Create new library* or *Choose existing library*. Select *Choose existing library*.
4 Select the *iTunes library file* in the *iTunes folder* in /Users/Shared.
5 Now go to File -> *Add to library* and select the *iTunes music folder* located in /Username/Music.
6 - iTunes will add all the music in from this account to the main iTunes music folder/library.
7 Delete the *iTunes folder* in /Username/Music
8 Restart iTunes normally (don't hold Option). Everything should be there.
9 Quit iTunes and log out of the account.
10 Do the above steps for all users. Don't do the first 1-3 steps. Start at the second series.
Log into your account, start iTunes normally and all music should be there.
Whenever any of you do anything in iTunes, it will be seen by all since you are using one and the same iTunes library file.
Create a "main" playlist for each user with their own music. Create a smart playlist and set it to Playlist is not the playlist you created above. Select this and it will show you everything NOT in your playlist. Do the same for the others. This will help when adding only the music you want your own playlist.
Note that iTunes can only be opened by one user at a time. If you have Fast user switching enabled, the other users must quit iTunes in order for anyone else to use it.

  • Happy Christmas - can't share my library with other users on my PC

So my daughter is fed up, i buy itunes on my user name in our Windows XP, but she has a different itunes library in her user area and she cannot see my library. I am the guy with the credit card but i cannot see how to export tunes to her library. I guess we can create a central one and share it but i dont know how to do it.
    Any advice gratefully received.
    Jim
    dell   Windows XP

Copy the .m4p files you buy from iTunes to another location on the computer she can access - like the Shared Documents folder. She can then add them to her iTunes.
You may want to look into Gift Cards, Allowances, and "Gift Song" options as well. For any of these options, don't create an iTunes Store account for your daughter until you have a gift card ready to use. From her XP signon, go to the store and start the "redeem" process. You'll be prompted to create an account, and when you enter through this "doorway", you'll have an option select "no credit card" for the account. That way she'll be limited to using gift cards, allowances, and gifted songs for purhcases.

I have an iBook G4 and would like to be able to share the music in my library with my new ipad 2.  Is this possible?

Sorry, the lack of the Intel processor will indeed pee on your parade. It is definitely required for Snow Leopard (10.6)

  • Can I Use My Music Library With itunes and ipod if it's Only Saved to an External Hard Drive?

I have very little space left on my internal hard drives. I have the same music library saved on an external drive.  To get some space back, can I delete my music library from the internal drive C and just use the library on the external drive? Will it work in my itunes library and ipod? I want to download more music but I'm afraid to right now, because there is hardly any space left!

    Rick,
For everything you should know about Time Machine, see http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html.
If your photos were on your internal drive then, yes, they are likely to have been backed up by Time Machine.
However, if Time Machine starts running out of space, it will delete old back ups and thus your photos aren't really 'safe' just on a Time Machine back up. What you really need to do is either:
    Buy another external hard drive for storing your photos and other files, or;
Back up your photos to DVD's: there are a number of cataloging apps that you can use to catalog your files or, if you have named them something specific, use something like DiskTracker.
Either way, don't rely on your Time Machine back-up to store your photos.
Good luck - call back if you need more information,
    Clinton

  • Cloning Music Library with Itunes 10.7

I am a DJ and I have two seperate computers that I use. One is my every day computer, that I use for evertything including downloading and organizing my music collection. I clone my Itunes music library by copying all of the essential itunes files from one computer to my DJ computer before gigs, to make sure that my library is always current. My I then use my Itunes playlists within the DJ program that I use to lead my sets.
When I clone my library, I place the copied files in my Itunes music folder, and open itunes on my DJ computer. I always have to go into preferences and point the location of my music to the correct folder on my external hard drive. This always worked. In fact, before Itunes 9 or 10, I didn't even have to re-point itunes to the correct folder, it always knew where to find the music. But since I updated to version 10.7, this does not work. When I repoint my library to the external hard drive, the file location of all of my files turns to this file://localhost/C:/iTunes/iTunes Media/.... and I get the grey exclamation point on all of my files.
Does anybody know how to fix this? If not, I need to go back to itunes 10.6, because at least I know that works.
I have a few gigs coming up and I really need to fix this soon.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just found another thread that helped...deleted the iTunes Library Genius file and now the Mac can load the library!

  • Share iphoto library with 2 users

Just updated to Lion v10.7 and I'm also running the latest version of iPhoto v9.1.5.
I have 2 user accounts on the same mac min, with the iPhoto library located under users/shared folder.
Assuming you only open one instance of iPhoto, all seems fine. However you import your images and then close the application, then move over to the other user account, open iPhoto and again all seems fine.... but no
Portrait photos can be view and opened. Good...
Landscape photos can be seen as thumb nails, but you get ! when trying to view the image.
Why does this happen and can this be fixed?
Sorry if this has been posted in the past, but its been bugging me for some time!

Honestly, I don't know. Some folks need to do it once. Others occassionally. Some everytime and I've never figured out why.
Ultimate solution, move the library to a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and set to ignore permissions

  • How can I share my music library with 2 users on the same PC??

I have a home PC with 2 usernames on it. I have had an ipod for a while and have a fairly large library. My wife has just got an ipod and installed itunes under her username, but I can't seem to find a way of sharing my library between the 2. The 2 usernames both have access to exactly the same hard drive. The only way round it I've found is for my wife to login under my username. Can anyone help?!?
      Windows XP

You are most of the way there. Each user having access to hard drive is the key. If users are limited in file privileges this is harder.
Any files you add to your library and any files she adds to her library are available to the other. Just not automatically. Each user must add the files to their own library using the add file or add folder option from menu bar.
What I have done is set library location to a location outside of My Documents\My Music. On my network storage I have a folder names s:\itunes. Both accounts iTunes are set to use this location for the library.

  • Finding moved music library with iTunes

    I have a big problem
I had to move my music from C:\ to J:\
of course iTunes no longer knows where my music is
does anyone know how to make sure iTunes can find it again?
and then I mean without having to re-import everything
if I do that iTunes will no longer know I already have some episodes of the podcasts I listen
or what songs I have listened and how often
a other problem is that J:\ is a external HD
and I'm afrate windows will give it a other drive letter when I reconnect it
does anyone know how I can make sure it will always be J:\?

set the drive letter for j:\ to Z:\ so it will always mount to Z:\ and deleted& rescanned my library, so far windows keeps putting the HDD on Z:\ so so far so good

  • Question re. sharing iTunes library with other user accounts

    I have seen this document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
I want to share one library with four users on my account.  I'd like for any music purchased or ripped to this computer to end up in User 1's iTunes library, and for Users 2, 3 and 4 to have access to User 1s library just as User 1 does.
When I follow the directions for "Listening to another account's music files" in the above referenced document, it tells me to navigate to User 1's library through the dialog box that pops up after User 2 clicks "Add to LIbrary".
The problem is, when User 2 is doing that, and User 1 has put the iTunes library in ~user1/public, as the directions suggest, that dialog box won't allow user 2 to access User 1's Public folder.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks in advance...
    Chris

Another long description in store here...
iTunes has two main elements. One is the library.itl database file.  When you open iTunes it is this that you see. It contains what music is in a library, playlists, date added, playcount, etc.  It is this that is really the library.  The other element are the media files. When you tell iTunes to play a track it checks in its library file which music file is associated with that track and goes and plays it.
Now you say, "for Users 2, 3 and 4 to have access to User 1s library just as User 1 does."  Do you really want User 4 to be able to go and delete or rename tracks, or change the playlists? This can be done if you really want it.  Or do you want each person to keep their own library [file] and share media?  Even that has disadvantages as a person might still be able to rename a file or even delete it for all.  At least everybody would have their own playlists, ratings, etc, though a person could delete a file and then it would appear as a broken link for others.  To be honest, iTunes isn't great for sharing.

Exactly what you want to do will involve different setups so before going into detailed insructions it would help to know which ones to provide.  Here's an sampling:

iTunes Home Sharing now works between users on same computer - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3865597  The problem with HS is I think you then end up with multiple copies of files, one for each user.  At least they cannot damage another's collection though.

  • How do i share my itunes library with other users on the same mac

I'm trying to share my itunes library with other users on the same mac.  I have tried moving my library to a public folder but when the other user logs in they can't see it in the public folder?

Presuming you moved the entire iTunes folder to the shared folder the other users need to start their iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and select the iTunes Library.itl file in the shared folder.  Only once should be necessary.  Note that any changes anybody makes will be seen by everybody, so you have to trust each other a lot.
If all you moved are media files each user will have to add those files to their iTunes library.
