Share music on apple tv1 with a imac

I have a music library in my apple tv1 and i would like to share it with an imac. Is that possible? If so, how do i do it?

Jase, you said "Music sharing works across different user accounts, whether they are on the same computer or different computers", but my son will log into his account where he currently has no music. in the window on the left, we can see the other computers in the house that are on line, but there is no sign of the master account (on that same imac). i assume this is because the master account is not logged in, therefore the secondary accounts can't find the master account's music, nor can I from a remote computer ( my macbook, for example). for instance, right now from my macbook i can see my son's itunes list (on the imac) in my "share window" (even though his list is empty). he can also see my macbooks list in his "share window". he cannot see either my list on that imac, or his sisters list on that same imac. all acounts on the imac have sharing turned on, as well as "look for shared music" turned on.
i guess the focus is on this: can the master user itunes list be made available to other users on that same computer while they are logged in as other users (and the master account is logged off, which it has to be in order for the secondary accounts to be logged in, right?) I can't think of any other way to ask this, so i hope that clarified what we have tried and what we are asking for.

  • How can I share the music on my ipad with my imac using home sharing?

I’ve been trying to share the music on my ipad with my imac. I've set my apple ID account on both of them but I can't get any of the songs I purchased on my ipad to my imac. Even though, when I click my albums it shares the music on my imac to  my ipad. the reason why I couldn't do this before was that I had recently purchased my ipad and created a new account that was different from the account on my imac. so can I use home sharing on itunes with my ipad and imac? and if not then how else could I share the music on my ipad to the itunes on my imac?

iOS: Setting up Home Sharing on your device - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4557 - "With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
The above makes it sound like it is one way, computer to mobile device.  Perhaps something below says differently.

can i use a non-apple keyboard with my imac?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can use the keyboard you want with your iMac. However, note that some keys, as the Command key, aren't present in non-Apple keyboards. For example, in a non-Apple keyboard, you have to press the Windows key because that's the replacement of the Command key of an Apple keyboard

  • External Apple isight with a imac G5

Really need help to figure this one out.
I have not used this isight before it has been bought secondhand.
Trying to use an external Apple isight with a imac G5 (without built in isight) running on Leopard OSX 10.5.8.
looked in my Utilities and can't find anything relating to isight.
Done system update and tried to download isight updater 1.0.3 but that does not work for OSX 10.4 or later.
    Many thanks for your time
    Additional Details:
Also when I go into System profiler and look in FireWire it says unknown device.
    and also went into:
    finder/system/library/coreservices/isightupdater
It will ask me to plug in an isight (which I do) to install and still nothing happens.
& also best till last - No green light what so ever
Do you think it maybe broken?
I really hope not as it was sold as fully working

    Welcome to Discussions, jonsonby
Based on the info you posted, if Defcom's good suggestion does not restore proper function, I think the external iSight is defective.
The simplest way to test that for certain is to connect your iSight (use the same cable you use) to another Mac, particularly one that works with a known-good external iSight. If you do not have access to another Mac and/or another external iSight for testing, a local Apple retailer may be able to do the test for you at little or no cost.

  • Share music on same mac with different user accounts

I'll try to make this clear, i have an imac with a large itunes collection. my two kids have accounts on that same mac, and want to be able to listen to what i have in my itunes. i can't see putting three copies of the same music on the same computer. is there a way to let them play what i have in my itunes account while they are logged in to their own account on the same computer?

  • Unknown Error -150000 when streaming music to Apple TV from an iMac

    Hi,
I have a -150000 unknown error on my iMac G4 (ITUNES SERVER) when I try to stream music to my Apple TV over WI FI. If I use an ethernet connection - there is no problem. I can also select and play the iMac's music VIA the Apple TV interface using WI FI.
    To summarise
iTunes Server to Apple TV via WI FI -- Does not work
Apple TV to iTunes Server via WI FI -- Works
iTunes to Apple TV via Ethernet -- Works
A MacBook to Apple TV via WI FI/ Ethernet -- Works
A Macbook to the iTunes server to Apple TV via WI FI -- Works
so I can select and play music from my iTunes server via my MacBook and play it on the Apple TV, I just can't do it directly. I have done all the patches etc. All macs have iTunes 8.02 Leopard 10.56 ( they recently been updated, but the problem existed prior to updates ) and Apple TV is now on 2.1 .. it has been on 2.3 without success.
I do think there is something within the iTunes Server settings.
This iMac (iTunes Server) has over 80 DAYS of music -- some 15,000 long classical music pieces. The music is stored on an external 3TB hard drive. This is only about a 3rd of my collection. I still need to add more. Would this be a problem?
Also most of the music was imported from an iTunes library that was originally created using iTunes 7.0. I did not have a problem then. I am tempted to go back to iTunes 7.0, but I think this will not be possible.
Many thanks in advance for any help and / or suggestions

I believe this issue has to do with firewall settings. I set up my ATV on Thursday. After I finally got around the port 3689 error (by taking my firewalls down), everything, including AirTunes, was working. However, when I re-established the firewall by customizing the port permissions, AirTunes would not work. Today I took the firewall down again and amazingly AirTunes worked. The fix - I had to open the firewall software and allow iTunes to allow iTunes.exe to allow outgoing TCP/UDP traffic.
Hope this helps. I am a PC user, but perhaps this will point MAC users in the right direction as well. Good Luck.

  • I share a an apple id with my kids. We all use the same credit card for purchases.  Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids?

My kids and I all use the same credit card and password for app and music purchases.   I'm assuming we all use the same apple ID too. (not sure) We can share apps and music although we all have our own itunes libraries. Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids or do we all have our own storage?

I just checked and they have already sucked up all my online storage.  Ahhh techy teens!  I think I will just leave it at that and back my own stuff up on my computer. Less confusing
Thanks for all the help!  I am definitely more educated now and I'm off to check that cc bill too.

  • Can you use the same Apple ID with multiple iMac's?

I am a teacher and I have multiple iMac's in my room and I need to be able to purchase apps one time and have them on all my computers.  Is this possible?  I know that I can do it with multiple iPad's but can I do with iMac's?

Yes logon to each computers itunes and away you go.
To redownload on each itunes got to the itunes store, select Purhased from the quick links section and navigate to what you want to redownload.
If you want to do it for apps that run on the Macs not on the iPad you need to login to the Mac AppStore and login with the same apple id and download apps that work on macs

  • How do I  share music on external drive with 2 laptops

We have 2 laptops in our household, my macbook and my partners iBook. Is there a way of keeping all of our music in one folder on the external drive and have it accessible to both computers, each with their own itunes library? Or does each computer need to have it's own iTunes music folder? As we share some but not all of the same taste in music it seems a waste of space to duplicate music files on the same drive.

The sync options relate to the iPod connected, not the library itself, so you can use different iPods with different sync options with the same library.
The problem with sharing your library over the network is that the computer which "owns" the library on the external drive always has to be near (and powered on) when the other computer wants to access it.
But you can have one library (.XML) file per computer, and still store your music on the external drive: just go to iTunes menu > Preferences > Advanced > General and uncheck "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library". Now you still have to import the files on the external drive once per computer, but they will not be duplicated.
