Share my IP address on internet

Hello All,
I am not an expert in networks configuration. I would like to know how I can make my machine available on internet, such that, I can access it from any place by its IP address. For example, my machine in the work-network has an IP 192.168.1.103, so I can
go to any machine on the same network and access my machine remotely by running remote desktop connection and entering 192.168.1.103. However, at home, I cannot access my work machine by its IP address. How can I make my IP discoverable by the outer world,
so I can access my machine from any place?
Any help is appreciated.
Hani

Hi Hani,
Because your IP address 192.168.1.103 is the private IP address so it can’t accessed directly on Internet, you must enable the port mapping on your route, by default you need
open the 3389 port mapping to  192.168.1.103 and naturally you need enable your computer Remote Destop.

  • Using Airport Express to share a hotel in-room Internet access

    Hello,
I am new to these discussions, and I would like to know how to share hotel in-room cable Internet accesses using my Airport Express as efficiently as possible.
For the moment, I connect the in-room cable Internet to the AE with the "+Internet Connection Sharing+" setting set to "+Off, Bridge Mode+", which allows my wife, kids and myself to connect simultaneously, but we need to each use a separate hotel-provided password.
Is there any way to change the settings so that I need only a single password for the AE, to be then shared by all the computers simultaneously?

Not too likely. Each computer will require a unique ip address so the network will see each computer as individual computers and require a password for each one.

  • Dual Ethernet will not connect if set to share Single IP address

The subject says it all. My trusty old Dual Ethernet will not connect if set to share Single IP address.
I cannot get anything but a self assigned IP address with it set to share a single IP address.
Before about Tuesday of last week I had connected to it a Mac mini, iMac, Dell Desktop, Dell Laptop, and PS3 all working fine. I think Comcast or Apple updated their system or Airport software and now the old dual Ethernet will not share a single IP address.

So far as I know, there has been no recent change in Apple's software affecting the Snow (a/k/a Dual Ethernet) base station. About 2-1/2 weeks ago, Apple distributed an update to AirPort software for Intel Macs running Tiger, but it would not have affected the base station.
Your topic implies that when the Snow is not set to share a single IP address (i.e., presumably, when "Distribute IP addresses" is unchecked in the Network pane of AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow), one of the computers is connecting to the Internet through the base station. I also imagine that the self assigned IP address you mention is the IP address of that computer, rather than of the base station, and that that computer obtains an IP address from Comcast when the Snow is not distributing IP addresses.
Assuming that that computer is connecting wirelessly, then whatever settings that computer is using for TCP/IP and PPPoE in the AirPort part of System Preferences, while the computer connects to the Internet, should be the ones used for the base station, in the Internet pane of AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow. (Most likely, it is simply "Using DHCP.") The IP address obtained from Comcast should be received by the base station, when it is set to distribute IP addresses in the Network pane, and the IP address should show up in the Internet pane. (When the Snow is distributing IP addresses, it has two IP addresses itself, a WAN IP address obtained from Comcast and a LAN IP address, 10.0.1.1, visible only to devices in your network.)
Even when the settings are correct, the Snow might not be able to obtain an IP address if your cable modem remembers the computer, which had been receiving the IP address previously. You'll probably need to shut down the computers and unplug power to the base station and cable modem. After waiting 5 minutes, restore power to the modem, then after another 5 minutes, restore power to the base station, then after another 5 minutes, start up a computer.

My husband and I share an email address. he now has a new phone which requires a link with itunes; he'd also like an itunes account. However, when he tries to set up an account, he repeatedly gets told the user name  - ie our email address, is already taken. And then his attempt fails. SO surely two people with the same email address can have seperate apple accounts?

SHARE TIME CAPSULE AS THROUGH INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB

Most ISP correctly block SMB over internet. It is too insecure .. use VPN to a different router and place the TC behind it.
Besides TC does not expose SMB to WAN.. same reason. You have to port forward SMB.
You can use SMB on some strange port.. there are instructions if you want you networked just use them.

  • VirtualBox: How to share a guest's (XP) internet with the host (OS X)

I have an internet connection that can only be used on Windows operating systems (our school requires that we install an .exe login client to connect to the dorm internet). As I am currently using a Mac, my goal is to get the internet running in XP in a virtual machine, and then share the virtual machine's internet with the host. Here's what I've done so far (I'm pretty new to all this, so sorry if I leave out anything important!):
    1) Install VirtualBox, create a new XP virtual machine
    2) Add a Bridged Adaptor NIC to the guest allowing it access to the ethernet port
With this, I can use the internet fine in the guest, but have no internet in the host. (Note: Making the NIC NAT does not work. When set to NAT, the login client in XP can't find the school's server and I can't use the internet). The next step is getting the guest to share it's internet with the host. Here's what I've tried:
    3) Add a second Host-only Adaptor NIC to the guest specifying the following:
    IP: 192.168.22.2
    Network Mask: 225.225.225.0
    DHCP Server unclicked (disabled)
    4) In the guest, enable Internet Connection Sharing for the internet connection.
At this point, LAN 2 in the guest (the connection to the host, I think) gets automatically configured with an IP of 192.168.22.1 and the same mask as above. Back in the host, I can ping 192.168.22.1 and get a response. But no internet.
I feel like I'm missing a step, namely how do I instruct the OS X host to use the Host-only connection as its internet connection? I can see the connection ("vboxnet0") when I use ifconfig in the terminal but I have no idea how to use the connection for internet. Anyone know how I can do this?
    Thanks for your help!

OS X is passing the Internet connection to the guest OS, it doesn't work the other way around.
You will have to install Windows into Bootcamp and I don't think XP is supported any longer, however Win 7 Pro+ will run most XP programs.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?
You'll of course be booting the Mac directly into Windows and thus OS X won't be running, thus you can't share the Internet connection to OS X.
Another alternative is to use a Windows 7 Pro+ machine to connect to the network and then sharing it's Internet connection to the Mac via Ethernet cable or wirelessly.

  • Do two dot mac email accounts have to share the same address book?

I have a dot mac account with 2 email accounts. Do we both have to share the same address book? It's pretty much a hassle for both of us to have our personal contacts all mixed together. Thank you!

I guess we actually don't have a good reason. There are 4 family members using the computer, it's usually on all the time, and I guess we thought it would be easier to be able to just jump on and off without switching. But if that is the only way to have separate address books we may have to set it up that way. So do you think thats pretty much what we have to do?

I use a DSL to connect to the internet. The modem is a Westell C90-810030-06. Two things happened in connection with the fail. I upgraded the firmware in both my Time Capsule (connected to the DSL) and the Airport Extreme (connected to my printer--used to extend the network). I also upgraded my Colof Nook to the Android Faux Tablet version. I can't imagine that that is creating some sort of mismatch.
I have now downgraded the firmware on the Time Capsule to 7.4.1 which is what I had before. Fortunately, I found the trick to downloading the older airport utility to find the older firmware. All the older versions disappeared from my computers.
I still have the same problem. Wifi works fine. If a second device connects to the wifi, then it works fine, but the first no longer has a connection.
And my Airport Extreme is not working at all. It cannot be seen by the computer. I tried resetting it. I'm going to connect it by ethernet and downgrade the firmware on it.
I appreciate any help. This is so frustrating.

  • Ip addresses and internet sharing

My iBook is connect to the internet via a wireless network, and I have an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adpater, a Vonage-type box) connected to the ibook via ethernet cable. The iBook is set up to share the airport internet connection to its built in ethernet port, and the wireless router has the relvenat Voip ports forwarded to the iBook's ip address. This all works fine.
With this set up the iBook gets its ip address from my wireless router, and the ATA is picking up an ip address from my iBook. The wireless router is handing out addresses in the range 192.168.1.(1-100) to computers on the network and the iBook always hands out an address to the ATA that is 192.168.2.xxx
Is there anyway to force a change in the architecture of the local network to permit the ATA to get an ip address from the wireless router rather than the iBook? i.e. let the ibook work as a bridge rather than a router. I have tried simply setting the ATAs ip address manually to be inside the range of ip addresses handed out by the woreless router, and specifying the wireless router's ip address as the gateway, but with this configuration the ATA cannot see the internet.

Yes, I've seen the cure in this particular Forum some months ago, (unfortunately I didn't bookmark it!).
If it helps, the pseudo router in the Mac always hands out x.x.2.x addies, which has been a bugaboo if you had any other x.x.2.x device in the mix, somewhere a few months after that discovery, some Guru here posted exactly what you need... sorry I can't help you more!

  • Share namespace/email address coexistence w/ Exchange

I know this has been discussed in other threads but I'm trying to find a clear answer on how/if this can be done. I've got a customer who has to co-exist between GroupWise 8 and Exchange 2010 for some period of time. Some users will be migrated from GroupWise to Exchange but the period of coexistence will likely be somewhat long.
Our goal is to be able to share the same namespace (client.com) and setup SMTP coexistence between the two organizations. Actually getting SMTP coexistence working is very simple and I have that working right now. I've also got an external domain configured in GroupWise with external contacts, and I can pick those contacts from the address book and email them without issue.
The problem I have is when I need to migrate a mailbox to Exchange. Using the "old" method of the Exchange 2003 connector and API Gateway in GroupWise, I could simply set the visibility to None on the migrated mailbox and then create a new external user with the same email address and everything works. However for whatever reason when I try to do the same with the external user it complains that the address is already in use.
If I simply define a different email address ([email protected] instead of [email protected]) then mail routing works properly. But I'd really like to keep the same email address to maintain consistency with external email recipients.
I hope this makes sense. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
    Thanks!

  • Setting up AirPort Extreme, share public ip address

    Hi there.
I have a problem with my AirPort Extreme, which is an older model (serial: 6F7040BGVYS, Version: 7.6.3)
It's connected to my Netgear router, and it works fine. BUT when another user goes on my wifi connection, the speed goes down seriously!
I contacted my internet provider, and they told me that it was a setting in the AirPort - something about sharing public ip address..? Changing Network > Router Mode from Off (Bridge Mode) to DHCP only. When I type in the DHCP Range, it will not accept, see alert below. I tried many different, so there must be somewhere else to configure..?
    Invalid Value
Sharing a range of IP addresses using DHCP Only requires manually configuring your WAN IP address. If your ISP gives you a range of static IP addresses, you should manually configure your base station with the first IP address and distribute the rest via DHCP.
How do I setup my AirPort to share public ip?
Attached photo shows the AirPort Utility, and version.
Hope someone knows about this issue
    Have a nice weekend!
    Best from Jeppe

    Hi..
    I have this same question.
Yes i did change all those and have tried with all the possible settings.
Still the problem persists..It shows all the configuration and all is right and still it is not connecting to internet.
Cross checked with the ISP, Tried same configuration in the mac machine(It's working) everything else seems to be fine but only the Airport is not connecting to the Internet.
Any solution or clarification will be appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • How can I get my wired LAN to share my iMac's wireless internet connection

Hi. (sorry for the long-winded posting below. I really struggled to explain what I'm trying to do, but would really appreciate any help from people who can recognise what I'm aiming for!)
I've seen several postings about sharing internet connection, but none (I think) which sort my problem.
I have a wired LAN with 3 Macs connected to a router, and the router to a cable modem and the internet. All working fine. All Macs have internet access.
I'm considering ditching my broadband provider, and so looking for a replacement configuration, at least for the short term.
So, I'd like to change the arrangement, connecting one of the Macs to the internet (through a local free WIFI hotspot) using it's airport card (that bit is done) and enable the other two Macs to share that connection via the router.
I've turned internet sharing on, and share connection from Built-In ethernet, on the internet connected Mac. But whatever
Has anyone got this setup working?
    PB
    Intel iMac 4,1 (early 2006)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1Gb SDRAM, 2GHz

You can share a connection through the router or you can share a connection from the Mac via Internet Sharing, but you can't share an already shared connection.

  • How can I share my iPhoto Library over internet

My friend and I want to share our iPhoto Library(size 5.19 GB and growing). We don't live together so we are not on the same network.
We were really hoping we could do this with mobile me. This is what we thought we could do with mobileme(but later found out it's not possible). Not possible but this is what we want to do: *We thought we would be able sync our iphoto library. This way we could work on or off line, make changes in iphoto have it auto sync and when he went to iphoto he would see the changes I made and he could make changes and I would see them when I went to iphoto. No one would have to manually sync or have to remember to sync.* On Mobile Me the sync function doesn't do it with iphoto. Are you aware of a company, software, or service that would allow us to do this?
Of if you don't know of a way we can have it sync then do you know of a service that we can store our library on and work from. The key would be to be able to work on the file while it's on their server at a reasonable fast speed. Doing it this way nothing would be physically stored on our computers. It would be stored on somoene else's server.
*Below are our options we are aware of using mobile me*(We are looking for other options:
We thought we could use mobile me to sync, but it doesn't sync iphoto. We could use idisk(in conjunction to or .mac account). We would upload the library to idisk, then when we wanted to use it we would download it to our computer make changes and upload it and the next person could do the same. The only problem is with it being so large it takes a very long time to upload to idisk/.mac account and up to now I haven't been able to get it up on .mac(I just got off the phone with mac and we tried everything and it the idisk sync just fails everytime.)Even if it did work it's not what we are looking for. The other option I am aware of would be to use *Back to My Mac*(also part of mobile me). This would entail both of us leaving our computers on(not in sleep mode) and we could log on to the other computer and grab what we want make changes and return it.
If you have other ideas please suggest.

YOu can share photos via web galleries but not the iPhoto library directly - and even if you were on the same network there is no ability to sync two iPhoto libraries
As to ahving your iPhoto library on the internet - no to that too - even a wireless connection to the library does not work - too slow and too unreliable - putting it on the net is not possible unless someone comes up with a giant step that direction
in addition to web galleries you can upload to your iDisk or to a third party service - Back to my Mac I guess would be a way - you would have to update yoru computer and your buddies doubling your work and increasing the time a lot more than that
