  • Convert DV File to iPod Video with Chapters

    Hi All,
My question is simple. I have a project in FCP Suite that I want to export to an iPod with chapters. I subscribe to Podcasts that have chapters in them such as Photoshop TV.
I have exported to a DV stream from the timeline, and viewed the DV file in QuickTime player to verify that the chapters are in fact still there which they are. When converting from DV, what do I need to do to convert to a format suitable for an iPod Video with the chapters still intact so I can easily skip around on my iPod like a DVD player can. Nothing I do seems to carry the chapter markers over in the conversion process.

    Michael (and George)-
We've been creating the same m4v files with similar software to George's (FC5 and Compressor2) and while we can place chapter markers in the m4v file, and that file will acurately use the markers when played in QuickTime on the computer, once the file is sent to Video iPod, the markers are not very accurate, missing the marked frame by up to 2 sec. Has it been your experience when using this feature in Compressor 3 that these markers are spot on? Would certainly appreciate your input on this,
    Greg M

  • Connecting iPod Video to mac

I have a black iPod Video 30 gb and recently when I try to connect it to my mac the ipod battery symbol says charging but nothing happens on the computer. The icon doesn't appear and iTunes doesn't recognize it. The symbol on the ipod that says do not disconnect also doesn't show up. I have tried it in both usb 2 ports and I have tried resetting the ipod and restarting the computer with it plugged in but to no avail. Does anybody have the same problem or can help?

This usually indicates that the iPod doesn't have enough of a charge yet to start up. Try plugging it in and leaving it plugged in for 15-20 minutes. It should automatically start up after it has a fair enough charge.

  • Ipod videos with 3rd generation.

every time i go to use itunes with my ipod nano 3rd generation, i go to movies or TV shows and "add folder" and "add file", & every time i add a file with videos in it itunes dosnt bring them up, and the ones that do come up on itunes like refuse to go onto my ipod. i press "sync" and it says that it syncs, but when it syncs too quickly. so i find out that it actually hasnt synced onto my ipod. itunes wont convert them either, it just like ignores the fact that i have videos there. its fustrating me. i just downloaded quicktime but just realised i alredy had the needed version of it. i have the newest itunes aswell, since i just got my ipod at christmas. someone help. im in a bit of a pickle.
    thanks. koz.

  • IPod Video with jaguar

i have an instore warranty on my iPod photo and will recieve a video as a replacement but i only have 10.2.8 jaguar OSX. I know ive been able to transfer songs to a friends iPod video before but no videos. Will it still be possible to transfer only music to the ipod using jaguar?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, sean_404!
    Why Certainly.
You don't need videos on your iPod Video to make it work. You can only have music which it... its all up to you what you put on your iPod.
Although, what version of iTunes are you using? Just to be on the safe side I would recommend (if your system can handle it) iTunes 6.0.5 just to avoid issues with ruining the video capability if your iTunes happens to be an older version. (under version 6)
EDIT: I checked the requirements of iTunes 6.0.5 and you are in luck!
    Macintosh Requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.
    500MHz G3 processor or better.
    QuickTime 6.5.2 or later.
    256MB RAM
    Combo/Super Drive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music recommended.
Nike + iPod Sport Kit requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

  • Ideal network to share 2TB iTunes library with mac mini and iMacs by wifi?

    Greetings,
Just made the move from pc to apple world. First time poster. Please feel free to suggest if this topic is better suited in another area.
I am looking for an ideal means of sharing my music library (+/- 1.5TB size) from my mac mini with my 2 kids iMacs.
The mac mini has an internal 80GB SSD and 4 GB RAM. It connects via ethernet to my Netgear WNDR 3700 wifi a/b/n router which connects to a Docsis 3 modem. Speed and signal strength is great.
My music library is currently backed up on a Seagate USB desktop HDD. My interim plan is to use USB to connect it to the mini. Long term plan is to migrate to a NAS system.
The kids iMacs (1x 2006 model with core duo and 1 x 20008 with core 2 duo) both run snow leopard 10.6.3 and access wifi signals for internet. Wifi signals ~16-20 Mbps strength.
Is there prefered method to share the music library with the kids by wifi? Only one way? do I need to add airport devices, or? It would be extremely difficult to provide ethernet to their rooms.
    Thanks

  • Connecting ipod video to mac and windows???

I have recently purchased an ipod video, i have two computers, one mac and one windows, the mac has my music on and the windows has ripped dvd's on which can be converted to ipod video compatible files. can i connect my ipod to both computers and add the files i wish from each one???
    Many Thanks
    IMAC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Yes.
There's two ways you can do this.
    1. Format the iPod using the iPod Updater on the Windows XP machine. This will make the iPod Windows-formatted, and it can be used on a Mac or a Windows machine.
The downside to this is that performance will suffer on your Mac. Transfers and mounting times will be slower and longer.
    2. Keep the iPod formatted for Mac. Since Windows cannot read an HFS+ volume natively, you'll install third-party software on the Windows machine (such as MacDrive) which will allow a Windows machine to read/write to a Mac formatted volume.
The downside to this option is cost and stability. MacDrive is not free, and who knows how Windows will behave in the long run.
Here's an article from Apple regarding using your ipod on multiple machines:

  • Facebook Video with Mac Pro

    Hi all,
Can anyone tell me if they're having problems with Facebook Video Calling with Mac?
Everytime I use it, I get the following pop up. I click allow, and the call connects.
My own image just freezes onto the window and I can hear the other person and they can hear me.
Thats as far as I get though. I dont see the other person. Skype itself works ok.
The interesting thing is though, that I go to the Library-Internet Plugin folder and all the other plugins Ive downloaded are there, but the facebook one isnt.
I cant find the facebookvideocalling.app file in order to delete it and force a redownload of the plugin.
Can anyone shed any light on how I might find the plugin to delete it, to reinstall it, or to fix the problem in general?
    Thanks!

  • Using G5 iPod Video with older Firewire cable

I have an older iPod, the 15GB model that used the Firewire cable with the dock connector, but I just purchased a new 60GB iPod Video. It comes with an USB cable and not a firewire one, but I already have the power brick and stuff that uses my Firewire cable. Can I use my older cable with my new iPod Video eventhough it warns me when I plug it in?

You can use the firewire cable to charge the new iPod, but you can't use it to sync content onto your new iPod.
The power brick with firewire cable will charge the new iPod without any problems at all.

  • Ipod video with no sound. help needed.

i recently bought an ipod video. i've been adding songs and pics for the last week or so, but haven't added videos yet. yesterday i had some videos already on my computer and i wanted to dowload them to the ipod. i imported the videos to my library and they played fine in itunes. however, when i tried to download them to my ipod, a message pops up that says this video cannot be played by this ipod. i've heard of this problem before and knew what to do: convert the format of the video under advanced options. then i took the converted video and dowloaded it to my ipod with no problem. then i tried to play the video. the video plays correctly but it has no sound at all. same thing in itunes. i've tried everything. any ideas.

You are in the iPod nano forum here, and you'll probably want to post this question in the Fifth Generation category, the correct location to post this kind of question. (you have a video iPod, not a nano).
Onto the problem. Read this Apple article: iPod plays video but not audio
Quicktime and iTunes don't convert "muxed" videos very well for an iPod. "Muxed" is a term referring to a multiplexed file where the video and audio parts of the file are both stored on the same track.
It ends up only playing the video and not the audio of the file.
This is probably your issue. Try using a third-party program that correctly converts both video and audio.

  • 30g iPod Video with Dead Hard Drive

Whoops... dropped my fancy 30g iPod Video while watching something. Now I have a nice paper weight.
I want to manually exchange the Hard Drive. I have the old one in my hands, but can't seem to get the exact same model. I CAN however find different sizes of various hard drives.
My question is simple: Is my 30g iPod locked to 30g? or can I pick up a 60g Toshiba Hard Drive? 80g? 160g?
I've done some searching and I can't seem to find the answer to this question. I've found people who have replaced with 'similar' hard drives (30g Toshiba for 30g), but haven't found word on restictions.
    Thanks for any info.

Check here, http://www.ifixit.com/Products/iPod-5th-Gen/95 . You should be able to put a bigger drive in you just need to order the correct reat case since it will be fatter.

  • Ipod Video with  car integration kits??  (Mercedes)

Does anyone know if the ipod video still works with the Mercedes integration kit???

Does your kit connect via the dock port? If so, it should work, I don't think the dock ports were changed.

  • IPod Video with Monster iCruze...problems

I just installed a Monster iCruze in my wife's 2001 Infiniti I30 using her brand new iPod Video.
It doesn't really work...very slow...most times the iCruze freezes up.
I don't know where the problem lies, but has anyone else had any success with the iPod Video and Monster iCruze?
    Thanks...

Not sure if ths will help but . . . I had a similar problem and the basis for it was the iPod inability to sync with Windows Outlook Calendar/Contacts. Would get locked into trying to sync but never got anything done. I finally bought something at the iTunes store (a few games) which seemed to preceed the attempt to sync with Calendar/contacts. While it was busy downloading the new stuff, I went thru every tab and turned off all the automatic sync options for EVERYTHING. Now I manage it all manually, while I look for a solution for the Calendar/Contacts thing.
