Share My Screen

Hello- I want to be able to take control of my Dad's computer via "Share My Screen" to be able to help me with some settings etc. I'm running Version 4.0.7 (616) and He's on Version 3 something. I had him download all the latest updates. What does he need to do to get Verison 4?
Thanks,
Kevin

He's going to have to upgrade to Leopard

  • Can ARD 3 now share a screen across 2 different subnets

We have one central office. Clients access that office via a VPN. We can then share our screen with them as we work on a proof of a project.
It's a great solution, however, we can't with ARD 2.2 get it to work with two clients at once over the VPN.
An old Kbase article said that it wasn't possible to route screen sharing to two different subnets in the 2.2 version. But rather required all clients be on the same subnet.
Does anyone know or have the ability to test to see if this is different is 3.0. I'm hopeful that it is, as I can no longer find the old Kbase article saying that it wasn't possible.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Still no reply as to if this was resolved. I'm not so much worried about the move on the client side. As once we upgrade we have the luxury of upgrading everyone at once. I think that will be a smooth process.
However, our motivation to upgrade is dependant on wether or not the ability to route traffice over multiple subents is fixed or not. So we'll wait and see. If anyone can easily test this. I'd love to know. Sounds like a few other people are hoping to hear something as well.
    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

  • Why is "share my screen" not working

I've used share my screen before - quite some time ago. I needed to share a design with a client today and it simply won't work.  Keeps telling me

  • How do I get Share my Screen to work?

I'm trying to share my screen iMac to MacBook. Both on Mountain Lion. Under the VIDEO drop down Screen Sharing on both computers is checked off. In SYSTEM PREFERNCES > SHARING, Screen Sharing is on. Yet, I cannot share my screen, or share the screen of my friend via Messages.
    ANY IDEAS HOW TO FIX???

    HI,
The @me.com, the GoogleTalk and Bonjour accounts should all be able to do Screen Sharing in Messages.
The other end does have to be using either iChat or Messages as well.
It does need to be On at your end but does not have to have the System Preferences > Sharing option Enabled (Uses the same engine (Apple Remote Desktop) only)
It may pay to go to the General section of the Preferences for the App and Untick the line that gathers the 3 Buddy List in to one.
Then highlight each Buddy List in turn and then check the Video Menu > Screen Sharing again as it may be an issue with one account that is crossing over when they are linked.
The next reason could be your Internet Speed.
Messages "measures" this at the app start up
It can get "confused" as to the speed if you have it starting up at the same time as the Mac because of the things the OS does in starting up and creating the Internet connection.
Also check Messages Menu > Preferences > Video section > Bandwidth Limit.
This should not be set at the 200kbps (it is too close to the minimum of 128 needed for the Screen Sharing if your service varies)
Of course it could be your service is too slow.

  • Can't share one screen at a time

I'm unable to share one screen from a machine with multiple displays. When I select just one, screen sharing goes black. Can only see all three (tiny) at the same time. This is a 10.8.3 Macbook Pro trying to view displays on a 10.6.8 Mac Pro.
In the attached screenshots, notice the state of the display selection buttons under the Help Menu.
    Thanks,
    Jason

Since 1987 and the Mac-II "the Macintosh way" has been Extended desktop. It is baked into the Operating system at a low level. It is not at all surprising that you get this result from Screen Sharing. The extended desktop is shown below in blue, and that is what I expect would be Shared.
The way to share just one is to turn the others off.

  • Why is ask to share someone screen greyed out when on yosemite, sometimes it is greyed out, other times it's not

can someone tell me when I try to screen share and ask if she will let me see her screen, the option to ask to screen share is greyed out.  The weird thing, is, is sometimes, it's greyed out, and sometimes it's black.  Can not figure out why that would be.  Tried same thing with my Bro and the option was not greyed out.
Is there a glitch or what when its inconsistent about the option to ask to share their screen.

The quick answer is that certain Back to My Mac features are not working well in Yosemite.
Read some of the following to determine if there is anything you can do about it, otherwise we will just have to wait for Apple to fix it:
Setting up and using Back to My Mac with an AirPort base station or Time Capsule

  • Share my screen not available

    Greetings all,
My Niece is at Auburn and I am trying to fix something on her computer but she is unable to share her screen with me. I am running OS-X 10.6.6 and iChat 5.0.3. She is on a MacBook running 10.5.8 and iChat 4.0.9. I can share my screen with her but not the other way. Her Share Screen is enabled. She is using an Airport. Her Dad was able to connect on an Intel iMac but not the Power PC. She mentioned he had to update iChat to 4.0.9 to get it to work which tells me he is on 10.5. Any suggestions?

Niece misunderstood the diff between Sys Pref and iChat Pref. Thanks anyway...

I run a Mac Mini 10.6.1 and a G5 10.4.11 - they share a screen. Yesterday the contrast on the Mac Mini went mad. Very very heavy contrast and now its impossible to retouch with Photoshop as I cannot judge the colours accuratly. The G5 is fine. I keep the screen image I get on the G5 good and accurate with Huey. I believe I cannot use this with the "Intel Inside" Mac Mini. Does anyone know how I can restore the great screen image I got up to yesterday on my Mac Mini? Thanks. John Suffolk England.

Likely caused by one of the following: a bad cable, maybe a bad connection or (my guess) bad graphics hardware.
To rule out the software, see if booting from an installer DVD shows better color.
Swap the cables and check the connections.
Then call your hardware support provider.

  • Can't connect to mac mini leopard shares or screen share

i'm having problem connecting to a mac mini that is on my network (running leopard 10.5.8) and is wired to the network via an AEBS.
previously when my MBP was also running 10.5.8 i had no problems using screen sharing and connecting to 2 shares on it using "afp://10.x.x.x/sharename", or browsing to them via finder.
i did a clean install of SL on the MBP and now even though the mac mini shows up in finder, when i select it it just sits there trying to connect and eventually the beach ball appears and fails saying it can't connect to it.
when i try to connect to the shares using command-K, again it won't connect to the shares.
if i try to connect to them using the samba share that is also configured on the mac min then is does connect to them.
i can ping the mac mini using network utility.
any ideas what the problem is? everything worked fine before i wiped and installed SL.

    HI,
Make sure screen sharing is turned on and you have set up sharing permissions on the computer whose screen you want to share.
    To set up screen sharing:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Sharing.
    Select the Screen Sharing checkbox.
To specify who can share your screen, select one of the following:
All users: Select this if you want to allow any user with a user account on your computer to share your screen.
Only these users: Select this if you want to restrict screen sharing to specific users.
Click Add + at the bottom of the Users list and select a user from Users & Groups (accounts you have set up in Accounts preferences), Network Users (users on your network), or your Address Book. Or click New Person and enter a name and password to create a sharing account. Then select that user from the list and click Select.
Click Computer Settings and set the following options:
Anyone may request permission to control screen: Select this to allow anyone on your network to request to share your screen.
VNC viewers may control screen with password: Select this and enter a password that VNC viewer applications can enter in order to control your screen.
It’s recommended that you not set a password if you only share this computer’s screen using the built-in screen sharing viewer in Mac OS X.

  • Screen sharing option no longer works after updating to iOS Maverik. I am using AIM and so is the other person who i am trying to share my screen with. .

I am using AIM and so is the other person who i am trying to share my screen with. I log into AIM with an @aol.com account. I can request to share my screen and share the other person's screen. The window will pop up on the other computer, but after clicking accept it will go back to saying that there is a request for screen share. What should I do to fix this?

    HI,
To be clear, iOS = iPhone and iPad and some iPod Touches and the Operating System they use.
Mac OS X = the Operating System Mac computers use.
Regarding the AOL account, is this actually from AOL and have the Chat/Messaging option enabled ?
Or is it a Name registered with the AIM part of AIM ?
You can have AOL as your ISP  and have an email and User ID from them.
This needs to have the ability to use the name as a Chat name enabled (or at least it used to)
AIM, which actually stands for AOL Instant Messaging has it's own registration site.
Nowadays  you register for a AIM email (although activating it for mail is another additional step).
It used to be that the bit before the @aim.com bit was the user name you used in Chat applications that could use AIM.
Previous to the current system you could in fact register just a Screen Name with them.
Apple (and a few US based ISPs) also have agreements with AIM that their (Apple, etc.)  emails are recognised as Valid AIM Screen Names.
This means those issued by  Apple ending in @mac.com, @me.com issued from the iCloud registration and @icloud.com.
(You do have to keep your password to 16 characters or less.)
From what you are saying you seem to be sure that you can see each other as On Line in your respective AIM Buddy lists ?
In Messages in both Mountain Lion and Mavericks you do not have to display the Buddy lists
(See the Window Menu plus the General Section of the Preferences to separate them)
Are you also saying that in the Video menu the option to allow Screen Shares is Enabled ?
Is it done at both ends ?
In iChat you could offer to Share your Screen with a Buddy without the option being On  (they could not ask to share yours or offer theirs).  I have not tested this in Messages.

  • Adobe crashes when share my screen

I have tried all of the suggestions but I can't isolate why my adobe connect meeting crashes whenever I try to share my screen.  I meet all the system requirements, have updated the add-in, removed the add-in, then updated it again, updated adobe flash, changed the screen resolution to the suggested size, multiple browsers, etc. but still no luck.  The plug in allows me to use the microphone but not to screen share, it crashes every time.  Here are my details:

  • Why can't I "Share My Screen"?

Friday I was in a trouble-shooting session via Adobe's "chat" trying to get my Captivate app reactivated on a new PC (Windows 7). The Adobe tech support person wanted to see the window I was looking at, so the support person gave me to the link in the chat window to "share screen, " which opened Adobe Connect. After Adobe Connect opened, I clicked "Share My Screen," but it didn't work.
Why would it not work? Might it relate to my company's standard Internet security settings?
Here are my Internet security settings:
    Any other ideas?
    Thank you!
    Jan

    Hey Jan,
There's no need to purchase Adobe Connect - anyone can download the Adobe Connect add-in.  The add-in is actually only required if you need to share your screen (we've never added that functionality to the Flash Player).
You can install the add-in manually, though there is also somethig we call the 'lightning install' process that happens when you try to share your screen without the add-in installed. The lightning install should only take  a few seconds and it usually even works for customers in locked-down desktop environments. Once installed, the meeting room would re-open in the add-in.
In your case - it looks like the lightning install failed (or didn't begin). Perhaps IE blocked it, or perhaps there was a yellow bar at the top of your screen that you may not have noticed.
In any case, manually installing the add-in should resolve the issue.
I'd recommend using version 9 of the add-in since it's backwards compatible.
    Thanks,
    Alistair

  • Skype for Business - Cannot see shared screens, but I can share my screen

I just started a new job and am required to use Skype for Business.  I downloaded Skype for Business 32 bit.  My PC is 64 bit but because I already have other Office 32 bit programs, I cannot install the 64 bit version. Everything in Skype for Business appears to work properly, except for the fact that I cannot see someone else's screen when they've shared it with me.  When someone shares their screen with me, all that I can see is the empty white box where their desktop should be.  When I share my screen with others, they can see my desktop correctly. What other information is needed to help diagnose this issue?  I really need this functionality in order to do my job properly. Thanks in advance for your help.

I was using Lync as part of the offerings found on Office 365 and I was prompted to "upgrade" to Skype for Business and so I did per the suggestion.  Lync had screen sharing, Skype for Business currently does not have screen sharing!  This is a major dissapointment.  Who is the product manager and why the premature roll-out?  This is incredebly frustrating as most all my clients leverage Lync (their own install on their servers... have not upgraded yet.. lucky for them) and screen sharing is an important part of my interaction.  It took many of my clients a long time to master Lync and therefore, it is incredebly challenging to teach them how to use an alternative tool over the phone.  I feel incridebly duped.  My clients can share with me however, I cannot share with them.  What is the current timeframe for enabling (re-enabling) this functionality?  How can I get back Lync?   Is there a beta release of the next version?  Finally, how can this be called "Skype for Business" when a core aspect of the tool to conduct "business" had been stripped away without warning?

  • Cannot re-share my screen again during a call

Hi! I'm using the latest Skype version for Mac and having a quite strange problem -  during a call if I shared my screen, then my partner shared his one and I want to reshare my screen again I just cannot do that - my partner see that it is loading and nothing more happens. I need to recall to share my screen again and this is annoying. Can you please help to solve this issue?

    Hi,
Are you using the latest Skype 7.5?
Do you happen to know which Skype version your call partner is using and if they are running the latest Skype version available for their platform as well? The universal download link for the latest Skype installation is www.skype.com/go/download
