Share namespace/email address coexistence w/ Exchange

I know this has been discussed in other threads but I'm trying to find a clear answer on how/if this can be done. I've got a customer who has to co-exist between GroupWise 8 and Exchange 2010 for some period of time. Some users will be migrated from GroupWise to Exchange but the period of coexistence will likely be somewhat long.
Our goal is to be able to share the same namespace (client.com) and setup SMTP coexistence between the two organizations. Actually getting SMTP coexistence working is very simple and I have that working right now. I've also got an external domain configured in GroupWise with external contacts, and I can pick those contacts from the address book and email them without issue.
The problem I have is when I need to migrate a mailbox to Exchange. Using the "old" method of the Exchange 2003 connector and API Gateway in GroupWise, I could simply set the visibility to None on the migrated mailbox and then create a new external user with the same email address and everything works. However for whatever reason when I try to do the same with the external user it complains that the address is already in use.
If I simply define a different email address ([email protected] instead of [email protected]) then mail routing works properly. But I'd really like to keep the same email address to maintain consistency with external email recipients.
I hope this makes sense. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks!

Maybe you're changing the users *primary* email address, but the old one
is still in the list of allowed addresses, e.g vie userid,
first/lastname or some such?

    My husband and I share an email address. he now has a new phone which requires a link with itunes; he'd also like an itunes account. However, when he tries to set up an account, he repeatedly gets told the user name  - ie our email address, is already taken. And then his attempt fails. SO surely two people with the same email address can have seperate apple accounts?

    I share an email address but want a separate Apple ID.  How do I do this??

    on your device go into settings - icloud - and make sure you are not signed into any apple id and click get free apple id - setup an icloud apple id for yourself - you can still use the same apple id you normally do for itunes and app store if you want (settings>itunes and app store) and just use your own for icloud and imessage - does this help?

  • HT1688 Hello, my husband and myself share an email address.  Therefore all of our iCloud information goes to each others devices.  How can we fix this problem so that we both have seperate i Cloud accounts now that this is already established?

    Hello, my husband and myself use the same e mail address.  When I signed up for the icloud with an update, it combined all of our information on both of our iPhones.  How can I get these two phones and information seperate again?
    Thank you

    Get separate IDs
    RECEIVING MESSAGES INTENDED FOR OTHER DEVICES
    This occurs if you are sharing the same Apple ID for imessages.
    If you are receiving imessages intended for other devices you can fix this by going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and do one of the following:
    Uncheck the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on both devices if they are iPhones; or
    On one of the devices go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the Apple ID, sign out, then sign in with a different Apple ID.  Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for the iTunes & App store for purchasing if you wish; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud and other services.
    To prevent merging of your calendars and contacts when syncing calendars and contacts if you are using the same Apple ID for the iCloud account, be sure to set up separate iCloud accounts on each phone with separated IDs.  Remember that if you change your ID in iTunes & App store, that apps and other purchased content is  forever linked to the ID that was used to download the apps and the apps  can only be updated with the ID that was originally used to download them.  To download content purchased previously downloaded with a particular ID then that ID needs to be used to download past purchases.  If you want all apps to be connected with the same ID you need to delete those apps downloaded with the old ID and download them again with your current and if the apps in question were paid apps then you need to pay again.

  • Outbound emails from one specific email address blocked by Exchange 2013

    Hi
    We have a hybrid environment Exchange Online and are using Exchange 2013 as hybrid server. We have an application that submits emails to Exchange using SMTP and sends emails from [email protected] Since almost half of our user base is already in Exchange
    Online, many of these emails which are generated on-premises need to be routed to Exchange Online. This configuration has been working for months. On 24/06/2014, the emails from this application stopped getting delivered.
    On examination of message tracking logs, I found SMTP FAIL events - excerpt below.
    ConnectorId             : Outbound to Office 365
    Source                  : SMTP
    EventId                 : FAIL
    InternalMessageId       : 39560943768623
    RecipientStatus         : {[{LRT=};{LED=550 5.1.8 Access denied, bad outbound sender};{FQDN=};{IP=}]}
    Doing a search for the error in recipient status did not return anything but doing a search for "access denied, bad sender" did return results that suggested a scenario when a user in Exchange Online would be prevented from sending outbound email
    after having been identified as sending spam - see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/dn458545(v=exchg.150).aspx
    It seems our on-premises Exchange 2013 server has enacted a similar block on our noreply address which sends out a lot of emails. I have been able to confirm that if the 'from address' is changed to something like [email protected], all emails from
    the application get delivered successfully.
    I now need to find out how I can unblock our noreply address so these emails can be sent with the original from address.
    Appreciate all help I can get on this one.

    Hi,
    From your description, only one email address can't send messages from the application server. I recommend you check if there is any transport rule on Office 365 blocking this problematic email address.
    What's more, please check your outbound spam policy, verify if there is any policy blocking this problematic email address.
    For more information, here is a thread for your reference.
    Configure the outbound spam policy

    I don't think they have ever been able to send to AOL but has recently become an issue as they have customers with AOL email accounts ...
    Any ideas? I have checked blacklists and we aren't on there ... they can email everyone else without a problem.
    Many thanks,
    Graham.

    It is the same issue when they reply to an aol email address. The recipients have been called to check they haven't received it and they haven't.

  • Share - wrong email address

    Hi
    I am using iphoto 11, if I choose share and want to email a pic, it does not bring up all my email accounts and there is no drop down to select the ones that are not there.  Any idea how I remedy this please is it in iphoto or mail?
    Thanks

    Again, are you using Mail or iPhoto for your email client?
    If you've selected iPhoto start typing in an persion's name that  is in your Address Book and a list of possible candidates will be displayed for you to choose from:
    As you type more characters the number of candidates will be reduced.

  • Is it SOP to share my email address with 3rd parties without my explicit permission?

    I created a gmail account for an addon.
    I created a Firefox add-on and submitted it.
    Within a week I get an email from WordPress, sent to the addon's gmail account.
    WTF!
    So, is it standard operating procedure for Mozilla to give my personally identifying information away to a 3rd party without my EXPLICIT permission? For Facebook, sure; but, not for Mozilla. You guys are supposed to be better than this.

    ''If it wasn't you, maybe it was GitHub?''
    just to avoid any misconception, i'm a normal user like you (and also happen to host an addon on AMO), so i obviously cannot speak for mozilla authoritatively. <br>but judging from my personal experiences (as far as i 'm aware no piece of information that i've provided to mozilla has gone to any place it shouldn't be in) and also from my insight into the kind of conduct of the organisation i feel quite confident to say that your address didn't leak from mozilla - they also would have quite a reputation to lose.
    maybe it's best to drop wordpress a line and to inquire how your email got into their system...

  • Creating email address using Microsft exchange 2003 server

    Hi. Have a MacBook Pro 2008. I need to add my new company email and we are having trouble creating it on my Macbook Pro. The pepole here only use PCs and they have a Microsoft exchange 2003 server. They are suggesting I buy Microsoft Office for Mac because of Outlook? Is this the only solution or is there another one? Thanks.

    I'm not using IMAP. I've tried that before. This time around I'm using the Exchange Account connection. I recall seeing where you could select to delete email from the server with IMAP, but I can't find the same or similar setting in the Exchange settings.

  • Exchange 2007 Sending with Second Email Address (trying to use Send As)

    I support a company who just bought another company.  I'm trying to bring a couple of users' old email addresses in to Exchange and have it work with their old and new addresses.  They can receive mail under old and new accounts just fine.  Sending
    under the old address is the problem.  They still need to send under the old address for existing contracts.
    My first attempt was to create a distribution group, give it the user's old email address, and then give the user "send as" rights for the group using the Exchange Management Shell.  I ended up with the same error I'll detail below.
    My next (and current) attempt was to set up a shadow user in AD with the old email address and then give the user "send as" rights to the shadow mailbox.  I assigned the "send as" permission by right-clicking on the mailbox and choosing
    "Manage Send As Permission" and then adding the real user to the list.  In Outlook, I clicked From and then choose the shadow user account from the Global Address Book.  This added the address to the From drop down box.
    This works, once...  Every time I restart the Information Store service, I can get one email to send out successfully.  Here is the error I get on every other attempt.  Notice it says "send on behalf" in the error.  Maybe I'm not
    setting it up correctly in Outlook?  I didn't make Outlook screenshots but you'll find my AD and Exchange setup screenshots below.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Share email address

    Hi is there a way to "share" an email address with my wife. We have individual app ID's. But in some cases we want to use a common Alias to send and receive , family emails.

    Sorry but no. An email addresss is associated with every Apple ID. One email address per Apple ID.

  • Change email address in an existing Exchange account in Mail?

    When I try to edit the email address of my Exchange account in the Mail preferences, the field is greyed out. For all other account types, it is editable.
    How can I change this?

    I finally found a solution. You can edit this file where USERNAME = users acutal account on the mac:
    Close Mail.
    Go to:
    /Users/USERNAME/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/accounts.plist
    Under this:
                <key>EmailAddresses</key>
                <array>
                    <string>[email protected]</string>
                </array>
    Type:
                <key>EmailAliases</key>
                <array>
                    <dict>
                        <key>alias</key>
                        <string>[email protected]</string>
                        <key>name</key>
                        <string>Name 1</string>
                    </dict>
                </array>
    Save version of file.
    Open Mail.
    I hope this helps - it seemed to work for me.

  • Can 2 people share an email account but have 2 seperate itune accounts?

    Can 2 people who have seperate Itune accounts, share an email address?

    You can't have seperate email addresses with one iCloud account, however, you can use one iCloud account as the master account with all your contacts, calendars etc in it, then add a second iCloud account and only used the email part of it.

  • How to get my Name in the From Field instead of email address?

    For an Exchange Activesync account, how do you get your friendly "Name" to show in the From: field rather than email address ([email protected])?
    I seem to be able to do this fro IMAP/POP accounts but not Exchange Activesync.
    All the discussions I've found about gmail and Activesync seem to be centered on getting your messages to show a different return email address than your exchange account. I'm not looking for this, just to show the Name.
    Thanks

    If you add a contact ("Contacts app>> "+">> enter info) with that email address, it will appear in mail with whatever name you set in the email address' contact.
