Share partitions between Arch i686 and Arch 64

As I have a new shiny Turion 64 laptop, I want to setup a dual boot Arch32/Arch64
So, I wonder :
 can the swap partition be shared between the two ?
 can the /home partition be shared without problem (I think of config files stored here : same versions of software ? no known binary-only files ?)
 what about /boot (same filenames ( = two partitions) ?)
 I have a local mirror : i686 takes ~4GB, how many for Arch64 ? (I plan to use testing, current and extra repos)
 any other caveat I didn't think of ?
I'm planning something like this :
hda1 ext2 /boot (32) 128M
hda2 ext2 /boot (64) 128M
hda3 swap (32+64) 1G
hda5 ext3 / (32) 12G
hda6 ext3 / (64) 12G
hda7 reiserfs /var (32) 4G
hda8 reiserfs /var (64) 4G
hda9 ext3 /home (32+64) ~

sorry for hijacking this thread but i got a new pc & im about to install arch64 on it. what are the differences between em? i read some stuff here mostly conserning some codecs. can anyone sum the differences up?
Have a look here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch64_FAQ
The forum contains a lot of in-depth info, also. Arch64 (or any other linux64) is not really for the faint-hearted, because there is inevitably techno-stuff involved. What I mean is that you can't just install and expect everything to be easy. The main points of interest for folks is that it is fa--->st and that it utilises the processor capabilities. There are, however, gaps.
================
Returning to running two arch64's, I have found that amarok gets seriously beeped. This is maybe because of its kde-based settings. Anyhow, I deleted ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok; and just let it sort itself out on starting up again.
Firefox crashes sometimes, too.

Or is there a problem with both OS's writing stuff to the
~/Home/Library folder that may be incompatible?
Yes, big time.  Mail, for sure, has a different file/folder structure, and would not be happy.
Plus, a number of apps (Apple and 3rd-party) are "Sandboxed."  That's a security feature, to prevent malware or bad coding from affecting things it shouldn't.  Some of their files, including the preferences files, aren't even stored in the same places!
Or to other places I'm not aware of?
Probably.  If you have two versions of the same app, they may or may not expect the same data setup.
To have one User folder for both OS's would save a lot of drive space
Not if you use some or all of woodmeister50's suggestions.
But I'm also not sure how I'd use Time machine with such a set up.
Just as you do now.  By default, Time Machine backs-up everything (except things like system work files, most caches and logs, trash) for all users and all internal drives & partitions.  By default, it excludes external drives.
You can change those defaults, of course, via TM Preferences > Options.
See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #32 for details and considerations of multiple drives.
    Presently I backup with . . . clones to other HD's
Good.   Yes, clones are different.  You need multiple "tasks" to back up multiple drives/partitions.  But once set up, that shouldn't be a big deal.

  • How can I share photos between my iphone and ipad?

I want to automatically share photos between my iPhone and iPad.  I use iCloud and I setup Photo Stream but my photos are not moving from one device to the other. My goal is to have all my photos on both devices- automatically. How can I accomplish this?
    Thank you!

Photos will Not go between iPad & iPhone..they have to go thro' iCloud as a provider or sync via your computer individually...you need Wireless on both or a direct USB connection..
On each iPad and iPhone you can initialize via the Summary/Photos when they are connected via iTunes..

  • How do I share data between my MBP and iMac?

I have two Genealogy programs on my iMac that I would like to share data between my MBP and the iMac.  I would like to gather the data on the MBP and then share new data to the iMac which is where I basically do all of the Genealogy work from, since it is much easier with the larger screen and better keyboard.
Can someone please explain or direct me to a tutorial or procedures if this is possible?  Thank You!

    Click Apple>System Preferences>Sharing
Check File Sharing. In File Sharing add the folder you want to share with another computer. Then add users. Then proide access previledges such as Read & Write, Read Only, Write Only or No Access.
Now in the System Preferences, Click iCloud, sign in to iCloud. It's free and you can access your Macs from anywhere.
In iCloud, check Back to My Mac.
Do the same to another computer. You're all set by now.

    Hi,
Actually value based partitioning works fine on the data sources which are stored on RDBMS. I haven't try it with a excel source. There is a detailed description in the link below.

You are correct.  However, a document can not be opened by another computer unless the document has first been open by an iDevice.
iwork on iOS uses different file formats ( *.tef ) then iwork09 on Mac ( *.key , *. number , *.page ).
Uploaded documents to icloud.com must first be updated to the *.tef format and then re-written to the cloud system. The online service behind the iwork web-app does the re-conversion to Mac formats, pdf or Microsoft office. All that is happening "in the cloud", not on your Mac as he misses the engine to do the transcoding from the *.tef to the other formats. Mac simply does not know what *.tef is.

  • Can I share an exFAT partition between OS X and Boot Camp?

I've just installed Windows 8.1 through Boot Camp on OS X 10.9.3. Now I want to create an extra exFAT partition in order to share data between the two OSs. Can I do so using the Disk Utility in OS X? Can Windows recognise this new partition?
    Thanks.
    iMac 21.5-inch Late 2013
    OS X Mavericks 10.9.3, Windows 8.1
    1TB HDD

I've got 2 storage partitions, bootcamp and OSX running on the same machine, internally i.e. all on the same drive. A total of 5 partitions, if you include the 200MB EFI partition.
    Guide:
Attempting to edit partitions in OSX will break Bootcamp. Make sure to edit partitions in Windows. I used Partition Wizard (PW), I recommend you use it, Window's default partition editor is pretty nasty.
Before you start, it's best to have the empty space you want to use for your new partition AFTER the Bootcamp partition. So create your NTFS Win8 partition with lots of space so you can shrink it later. After you've got Bootcamp set up with the free space you're going to use for your FAT partition as part of your NTFS Win8, you're ready to go.
Shrink your Bootcamp partition with PW and then create however many partitions you like in the filesystem you need. Pretty straightforward
I'm running Win8.1 and OSX with my partitions in this order: OSX, Win8.1 (Bootcamp), 10GB Storage Partition (NTFS),  90GB Storage Partition (FAT32). All my partitions are accessible by both OSes.
exFAT is basically the same as FAT32 except you can have file sizes greater than 4GB.

Emails/text the files to each device.

  • Cannot share documents between On-Premises and Online Users by email invitation

We have a hybrid setup, no problems with email communications between on-premises and Microsoft Online users. We have also activated online Onedrive/sharepoint to start testing. One interesting thing is that users Online can share their documents by inviting
users who are on Microsoft Online, On-premises and outside this two systems. But the problem is with the users who are on-premises cannot share their documents by email invitation with the other users who are also on-premises, they can share the documents
    with the users who are online only. When they try to share documents by email invitation they get error messages it their emailboxes saying that;
A communication failure occurred during the delivery of this message. Please try resending the message later. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk.

Exchange 2010/2013 with Microsoft Online Office 365 Hybrid

No, just wanted to share documents using the invitation by mail in sharepoint/onedrive. We can share the documents normally without the email notification. Sorry to mention that even the users who are Online cannot share documents in sharepoint/onedrive
between themselves, so not between user on-premises and online users. For example a user selects a document in the library, click share and tick on by email, just gets an error
    "#< #5.5.0 smtp;550 Denied by policy> #" , No RMS enabled yet.
    Hi,
    Sorry for my delay.
According to your further posting, the sending Denied cause is No RMS enabled yet. If that is the case, please activate Azure Rights Management (RMS) to check whether the issue persits.
When you activate Azure Rights Management (RMS), you turn on this feature for all rights-enabled services and applications. You must activate Rights Management before you can begin to use the information rights management (IRM) features within Office, SharePoint,
and Exchange. For details about how to activate RMS, please refer to:

  • Can't share files between 10.6 and 10.4 macs

When I try to  copy a file from my MacBookPro running 10.6.8 to my pb-g4 running 10.4.11 first I get a request for my password, next I get an alert saying, "A newer  item named xxxx already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?" When this alert shows up, yes, the title of the file with size zero KB has newly appeared on the 10.4 mac. I click replace and get an alert that says, "The operation can't be completed because an item with the “” already exists." But the file didn't exist in that location before trying to copy.  How do I fix this other than using sneakernet technology.
The reason I  need to do this is that I want to print on a networked Kyocera Mita CS2050 printer.  There appears to be no driver for the printer compatible with OS 10.6. If I use a generic driver, I have no access to printer features like two sided printing.

I know the 10.4 driver won't work in Snow  Leopard. That's why I'm trying to transfer files to my old Powerbook from which  I can  print.  The Kyocera Mita Copystar 2550 is a laser printer/copier, so as far as I know, GutenPrint won't work with it. I downloaded new drivers from Kyocera Mita, but I  can't get Snow Leopard to work with it.
The Copystar is connected via ethernet. It works fine from other 10.4 macs.
The ironic thing is that I also have an older hp color Laserjet 3550 (usb). About 5 years ago it stopped working on  10.4 and if I  wanted to print anything, I had to restart my powerbook in 10.5 or print through my daughter's computer.  When I got my MacBookPro 10.6, the hp works fine.
But the more serious problem is that I need to be able to share files between these computers. I have no problem copying files to another 10.4 mac on the network, just to the  powerbook.

  • How to share calendars between lumia 920 and 820?

    Hi
I´m having problems sharing calnedars between my 920 and my wifes 820.
They both use @hotmail calendars as a default.
I first tried to send her an invite to a meeting I created and noticed that it uses @gmail account picked up from facebook as a default so I added her @hotmail account to her contact info.
    The invite still doesn´t arrive.
Is it supposed to arrive as an invitation to the phone or just as an email?
Next I tried to share our calendars at microsoft live but nothing happens even it says its sending the share invite.
Am I doing someting wrong or what?

Hmm.. I tried to send an email to my @hotmail account to test it and it didn´t arrive so I checked the settings and it seems that my hotmail account is named @gmail.com. Probably cause I´ve used it to create the live account. I just thought that the hotmail account would automatically be named @hotmail. Now I can´t do pretty much anything with it since it doesn´t even let me access to gmail account when I try to link them.
Do I have to close the whole account to get this working or what? I´ve used the gmail address to create a microsoft account a long time ago and the address can´t be changed anymore.
I don´t even need a hotmail address but I understood that it is needed to get the calendar working in the phone?
