Share printer on 10.4 iMac w/ xp on airport network?

I swear I think I have tried everything. When I use basic sharing on the iMac the WIN machine can never find a printer (using the ip address).
Bonjure for WIN also sees nothing. I am at wit's end :=)

Programming Technique?? I didn't program anything so I am confused as to what you are suggesting?
I can see it looking for names but nothing else, but as I can tell you can't configure Tiger or Network to connect to only a specific MAC address.
I also figured out that it doesn't like connecting to my Belkin N1 Router (Model F5D8231-4), it can see the SSID, but everytime I attempt to connect to it says there was an error joining the Network.
I have upgraded the Firmware on the Belkin to the latest, tried a simpler WEP key, used the $ Sign entry method for the key, and even cranked the Belkin N1 router down to 802.11b with no issue.
I plugged the Netgear MR814 (802.11b only) and it is able to connect to that thing with no problems using the same complex WEP key (yet only one version of my SSID still appears in my list).
I have contacted Belkin support about this as well, but it seems odd that my MacBook Pro and other macs running 10.4.9 can connect but not my iBook. Yes they do have different wireless cards.. but if I crank it down to "802.11b" it should be able to connect.
Is there firmware updates for the original Airport card? It says it had firmware 9.52.

  • New iMac wifi slow on Airport network, not on Fastweb

I just replaced our old iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz, Airport Extreme Card 802.11 a/b/g/n - OS 10.6.8) a new refurbished iMac 27-inch (late 2012) (OS 10.8.4).  The new computer works great, except with wifi - it is painfully slow on our Airport network, even though the old iMac still runs perfectly fast on that network.
We have two wifi networks in our house (in Rome, Italy).  Our internet comes in through the Italian company Fastweb, and its wireless router limits us to only 3 devices.  Both computers have fast internet connectivity when we hook up one (or both) to our Fastweb network (802.11g).  But that's not a good long-term solution because we need our main computer to talk wirelessly with other devices (like our printer and speakers running off an Airport Express booster).
So for the last three years we have also had an Airport base station (802.11n) based off the Fastweb network. We use the Airport network to connect most of our devices (including iMac, MacBooks, printer, iPads, iPhones, and two Airport Extremes -- one for speakers in the next room, and another to boost the signal throughout the house).  For some reason, the new iMac is painfully slow when it connects to our Airport network -- it can take 2 minutes to load a web page on the Airport network, which takes 2 seconds to load on the Fastweb network.  I would've thought that the problem lay with our Airport network, except that it's still plenty fast with our other computers.  The only problem seems to be the new iMac talking to the Airport network.
Could the problem lie with the Airport Extreme card in the new iMac?  It is a refurbished machine, not new.  Should I just be taking the machine into the nearest Apple Store?  We did buy AppleCare . . . .
Thanks very much for any ideas!

  • Printing with hp P1102W with iPhone andipad on airport network

I have updated to the latest drivers and rebooted everything. My iOS devices still cannot see my printer. I have the printer hooked up USB to the airport router and I can print with my MacBook pro but can't with any of my iOS devices (iPad,iPhone).

    You'll see here:
    AirPrint 101
that iOS requires that the printer be on a WiFi connection. Connecting via USB to the router is not supported.
But your printer does support AirPrint and therefore can join the wireless network and be used by your iOS devices and your Mac. Some older P1102w's require a firmware update to get AirPrint functionality.

  • Share printer to new iMac

Hello. I just ordered my first Apple computer today. I am a long time PC owner, but have used Macs at work for the past few years to run apps like FInal Cut/DVD Studio etc.
I have an HP Inkjet copy, scan, fax and printer hooked up to my HP computer. The printer is not networked, but it is shared, so I can print from my laptop. Obviously I can't use the scanner unless I drectly hook it up to my iMac, but I would like the option to be able to print to it. With my laptop, I just conneted to the desktop over my network, and dragged the printer icon into my laptops' printer control panel folder. Can I do something similar to share my printer to my iMac for printing? Thank you very much for any help.

    There are also many resources available right on your new iMac that answer questions such as this. In the Finder Help menu is an app called Mac Help. The following is from Mac Help;
Setting up to print to a printer shared by a Windows computer via SMB/CIFS
You can print to a printer connected to a Windows computer, if it supports SMB/CIFS and has been set up to be shared. You need to ask the printer's owner for the printer's workgroup and for any necessary user name and password.
    1. Open the document to print, and choose File > Print.
    2. Choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu, and then click More Printers.
    3. Choose Windows Printing from the top pop-up menu, choose a network workgroup from the pop-up menu that appears directly below it, select a workgroup from the list, and click Choose.
    4. Any Windows printers in the network you've chosen appear in the Printer List.
    5. Select the printer, choose its model from the Printer Model pop-up menu, and then click Choose. Enter the user name and password for the printer when prompted.
    6. IMPORTANT: Be sure to choose the correct printer model for the printer you're using. For more information, see the documentation that came with the printer. If you have an HP PCL compatible printer that is not listed in the Printer Model pop-up menu, choose the printer model that most closely matches your printer. See the link below for a list of printers and the models they most closely resemble. (You may need to scroll down part way to see the table.)
If your computer cannot determine the options that are installed on your printer, a dialog appears that lets you choose those options. Make sure the settings in that dialog accurately reflect your printer's installed options so you can take full advantage of them. Then click Continue.
If you are trying to add a Windows printer that is not available, contact your network administrator for assistance.

  • I have two iMacs wired to an airport.  I have just updated both to Lion.  I am unable to share the printer or scanner with the other machine.  Any suggestions

I have two iMacs wired to an Airport.  I have just updated both to Lion.  I am unable to share my printer or scanner now.  Any suggestions

I have the exact same problem, Grace Period is ignored when setting it in Profile Manager for an iPhone.
I'll try to verify that this is also a problem with iPad's.

  • Print from iPad to iMac printer

How can I print an email from my ipad using the printer connected to my imac? I use wi-fi.

Sorry, misunderstanding. I have not been able to print from my iOS devices on my Win7 network. Hence my move to purchase an iMac to try to create a homogenious environment. I'd thought I'd read somewhere that I could print to "Mac shared printers...".  My previous reference to "printing on my Win7 network.." was referring to my ability to share printers on Win7 machines and print from any Windows based computer on my network.  No success as of yet printing on either Win7 nor Apple OS networks.
So my search continues for a solution to print from my iPad on my network [wirelessly of course].
I just made an assumption based on some readying that if I purchased an iMac and shared my printer(s), my iOS printing issues would be resolved, and I'd have a nice new computer for my family to use. So far 1 out of 2 objectives met.

  • How do i print from my mac book using printer connected to my Imac

I am trying to print from my Mac book by using the printer connected to my Imac however i keep getting a notice which says
Authentication required.what am i missing? I set them up to share printing but something is wrong

Before trying to figure out if I can help or not, a bit more specific information is needed:
    1. You list an iMac G5 in your profile - is that the iMac you are using? In that case, you'd get more knowledgeable answers in the G5 forums (this is an Intel iMac forum). If you have an Intel, please give more details (model, etc).
    2. What model/make printer? Does it have wireless capabilities?
    3. What model/make router? Or are you simply trying to use the built in Airport from your iMac? In that case, do you have printer sharing enabled on both machines? If so, did you create a network? For detailed info on that, use the Help Menu in Finder and type in Network - one of the subjects available will be "creating a computer-to-computer network". It contains instructions on how to create it including a password (authentication).
You might also try to use the search function on this forum and type in "printer sharing". There are many threads, some of which might be useful to you.

  • Share printer betwen two macs

So...the point is that I've got a printer connected via USB to my iMac and I want to use it in my macbook pro aswell. I have checked Share Printer on the iMac but I don't know what should I do on the macbook :S. I'm quite new on this.
    Thanks!

You use the Share preference pane only on the Mac which has the printer connected. The Mac must be powered on and same with the printer.
On the remote Mac go to system preference pane/printers & fax and if your printer is not listed then use the + button.

  • How do I add a printer connected to another iMac on the network to my printer list?

How do I add an Epson printer connected to an iMac on the network to the printer list on my MacBook Pro? I cannot get it to show up in the list for printers to add.

That only works if the printer is itself a network printer. You can't do it if it is directly connected to another computer on the network unless it is configured to be a Shared Printer on the other computer.

  • Printer problems connected to iMac using Airport Express

I have an Airport Extreme functioning as a base station, and an Airport Express extending the range to an iMac i keep on the third floor of my house; my HP printer is connected to the iMac. My iBook laptop in my kitchen connects wirelessly to the base station's stronger signal. Previously, when I used a Linksys system, my laptop was able to 'see' the printer connected to the iMac; now I can't. (I also am unable to fileshare between the computers, even tho i have filesharing switched on.) What gives (on both the printing and filesharing questions)?

If you run the Airport Admin Utility on the iBook - does it "see" both the Airport Extreme Base Station and the Airport Express?
Double check that your broadband modem is connected to your Base Station's WAN port - that's the port labelled with the "circle of dots" icon.

  • How to share printer with pc?

    Hello,
want to share printer with pc. Thinking about print server, something from dlink products, which are cheap enough.
    Are they compatible with mac?
Are there any other option? (sharing through pc or through mac is not convinient in my opinion).
Thank you very much in advance.

A Printer properly connected to WiFi is like another computer workstation on your Network. It should have a FIXED IP address similar to the other devices on you Network but less than xxx.yyy.zzz.254, and it needs to know the WiFi password (so you have to have entered that password into the Printer at some point). When set up correctly, you can Ping it at its IP Address with Network Utility and it will respond in a fraction of a second.
When you use Add-a-Printer to set up a WiFi-attached Printer, DO NOT use Default Browser. It is an IP Printer, and uses the IP Printer tab and its IP Address to configure. Look in the manual to determine whether it should be IP + Internet Printing Protocol, IP + Line Printer Daemon , or IP + HP Jet Direct Socket.

  • Suggestions for all in one wireless printer to work with iMac

I am looking for a new all in one that will work with my iMac & Airport

About a month ago I got an HP Photosmart Premium c410 AIO (print, copy, scan, fax). I don't remember the price, but I think it was about $200.  Wireless setup was easy and it works fine so far.  I also use it in a Wi-Fi (Airport) network with a Windows 7 PC and 2 Win 7 laptops; the HP software for Windows is _much_ more user friendly, versatile and faster than the Mac s/w IMHO.   The software for it on a 2011 27" Intel iMac running SL is more stripped down and slower to connect, but it works OK. I haven't upgraded the OS to Lion yet due to numerous complaints.
The only gripe is that like most current HP printers, it eats cartridges, even the XL ones.  The ePrint function works fine with an iPad (version 1).  Print quality is OK for my uses, i.e.,  letters, photos on plain paper and up to 8.5" X 11" good photo paper).
I also connect to a one-year old HP Photosmart c310 my daughter brought home from college for the summer - seems to be a pretty similar ePrinter, but without the fax capability.  This works as well as the c410 near as I can tell. It probably cost about $120.

  • HT3258 I have a Brother MFC-J4610DW and can't get it to print from my 2012 iMac over my lan.

I have a Brother MFC-J4610DW and can't get it to print from my 2012 iMac over my lan. It works with the macbook pro and iPad. The dialog box states "Setting up 'BrotherMFC-J4610..." Unable to communicate." I worked with the AppleCare guy for a couple of hours. We got it to print via USB but when we switched to ethernet hook up via Time Capsule it won't communicate or install the printer.

Try two things (separately, trying to add the printer in Print & Scan/fax prefs after each):
    Reset the printing system:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1341
Reset the router - power it off for 15 secs, then back on. Some routers cause these kinds of errors - not recognizing devices are present.
