Share Screen Crashing on MAC?  Firefox?

Only just recently on my MAC and Firefox that has always worked- anytime I do SHARE SCREEN, the whole application/program crashes and offers no solutions.

Thanks Nitin... it is a little difficult as I am trying to assist this person with Lightroom issues by remote. I have established he has 10.6.8 on his iMac. I think it just crashes with no report but I will ask again tomorrow as we are working on a 5 hour time difference.
So even his Safari is ancient.
I did get him to update Flash and restart.
Maybe I will get him  to update the OS first to Yosemite... but even that is difficult as the user is not so computer literate...
Anyway I will respond again tomorrow and many thanks for your quick response.

  • Share screen crash

    Hi All,
Thanks in advance for help. I just bought a new Mac mini. The plan was to use it as a iTunes server for appleTV. I set it up using hdmi connected to flat screen, but planned to control it when necessary from my Mac desktop. Not particularly savvy with computers, but share screen seems simple. I just can't get it to work.
I turned on sharing for the mac mini. The mac mini shows up in my finder and it seems like I can access files, but when I try to share screen it just says "connecting..." Cancel is grayed out and it doesn't show up in the Force Quit menu. I have to reboot.
I used the same admin name and password on both machines. Could that cause a problem? When the share screen password screen comes up it pre-populates with my first name. If I add my last name I get an error. If I simply enter my password I get the infinite connecting loop.
    Any suggestions?
    best regards,
    ralph

incidentally, I've been able to connect to two other macbooks. I just can't connect to the mac mini. Any known issues or recommendations? Thanks again.

  • Browsing Basics video has many more tabs on screen than my Mac Firefox shows (i.e. no Firefox tab, no bookmark tab, no new tab tab,no all tabs tab), so most features of Firefox are not available to me .

I'm a year into using a computer, and my Mac was set up by another family member who is no longer around.
Tonight I noticed the Firefox "getting started: tab and thought I might learn something. For starters, the screen on the Browsing Basics picture was so small as to be almost unreadable; I played parts of the video many times to catch what tab was being explained. It did not help that many of the tabs on the video were not on my Mac's Firefox screen.
Specifically, my screen has no Firefox tab (except at the top next to the Mac Apple logo), no bookmark tab to the right of the Home tab, no plus sign/new tab tab, no all tabs tab.
My screen also does not match the details on the sample screen that comes up when I first clicked on the Firefox "getting started" tab.
It would seem I need a new Firefox top section of my screen, but I just downloaded Firefox updates.......Thanks for any help!

I too just downloaded Firefox on my Mac and noticed that my screen did not match the video. The video's sample screen has been customized to show all the features you can add and use to make browsing easier, like adding all those tabs you and I don't have yet.
But first let me comment on how small the video is, with no way of expanding the video. Your mac can easily zoom in to make the video as big as you need it. Just hold down your ctrl key, place two fingers on your track pad and zoom in or out to the desired size. I use this feature so much, to read small text and watch video windows that are too small. Try it.
After you finish watching the "getting started video" just roll over the markers to make Firefox do what you need it to do. I however have the most of the tab features already from importing some of my settings from another browser so I can't tell you step by step on how to get the tabs you want. Just play around with it and I'm sure you'll begin to appreciate the speed and ease like I do.

  • "Share Screen" not working from MacBook to iMac

    Hello friends.
I have an iMac (OS 10.6.6, 3.06 GHz core 2 Duo) and a MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.6, 2,53 GHz core 2 Duo)
It's been a while since I had this problem, and I could not solve it.
When I try to connect from iMac to MacBook (from Finder, in shared computers). I click into Share Screen and the login panel appears. After I type the user/password, the program "Share Screen" crashes and never get connected.
It doesn't happen in the other way. I have tried to replace the program from one computer to other and still happening. I have the crash report in case it is needed.
I hope that you could help me fixing this problem, as I am desesperated.
    Thanks in advance,
    David

Usually when a program crashes in this way, it's a problem with the program itself rather than a configuration error.
Have you tried the "Repair Permissions, Zap PRAM, Repair Disc" sequence?
    Good luck,
    Archie

  • Share Screen Dialog Won't Quit

I tried to do a "Share Screen" with another Mac that had frozen. The Share Screen went searching for the other computer but couldn't find it. So, I restarted the other computer and it booted back up. But now when I go back to the first computer, the Share Screen dialog is stuck on "connecting..." The Cancel button is not available. There is no close icon on the window. I used "Force Quit" to shut down the Screen Sharing application and it closed, but the "connecting" dialog stayed open. I did a relaunch on the Finder, but that didn't have any effect either. The "connecting" dialog is forced on top of all other windows, so I'm going to have to reboot the system to get rid of it.
I think this is a Snow Leopard bug. Is there anything else I can do beyond Force Quit to get this dialog box to close?

  • On my mac firefox 4 and 3 i can't simply even open it, it just crashes and crashes, although if i try to open it in another acount yes it opens, i'ts like my account has a problem with firefox (tryed cleaning it all with appzaper, but nothing)))

    Hello,
I have an iMac osX snow leopard (newest version) and strangely since some months, strangely when i tryed to open firefox it started crashing, firefox 3 and firefox 4 beta, i open them and in 5 seconds they crash.
Strangely enough on another account on my mac firefox WORKS perfectly, and it seems it's only crashing on my account, i even used cleanmymac and appzaper to clean totaly firefox files and re install it.
Please help me i can't stand chrome going so slow with 10 tabs

Thanks Sig for getting back to me.  I really do appreciate it!  But I'm not sure how erasing my drive is going to help.  And besides, my problem is that I can't even boot to my original Tiger install DVDs anymore.  I'm unable to execute any kind of boot-level command -- including holding down "c" key to boot from the drive, holding "T" key to go into Target Disk Mode or holding down "option" in order to bring up my bootable partitions!
Holding down any of these keys after the boot chime simply causes the screen to go black and then hang. The DVD drive will show it's being read from but nothing ever comes up.
Since I can't boot to my install DVD, there is no way for me to access the Disk Utility to erase my hard drive.  Do you see the problem?
I am able to boot to my Windows 7 DVD, since I was able to install that to my old Tiger Partition, but I don't see how using my Windows install DVD would help me to re-install OS X.
I need to figure out why none of my boot-level opterations are available.  If I was able to boot to my original Tiger discs (or any OS X DVD) than my problem would be solved, but I can't do that!
Any other ideas?  Thanks in advance!  --e

  • Every time I have tried to install firefox 6.0, it has blue screen crashed my system - can you help?

I am using an old computer but it has dual processors and 4 gb of ram. I am using Windows XP home edition, sp2 atm. I have a Galaxy 200 vid card, sound-blaster X-Fi, Gigabyte mother board. Atm, all I have is IE 6.
After the blue screen crash, I had trouble rebooting my computer. When I was able to reboot, the firefox 6.0 would not run and I could not uninstall it. I did a restore system and was finally able to uninstall it - at the time I still had the 5.0 installer on my desktop so I installed it- I don't have it now.
I tried the firefox 6.0 before I had gotten all the updates for sp3- as I have had trouble getting the last windows updates to install.
I am not a techie - what I have done is trial and error to try to get my software to work. I would either like to get a working version of firefox 6.0 or a safe download of firefox 4.0 as that worked and I had no problems with it.
    Can you assist?

Can you attach a screenshot or link to the instructions you are following?
You are on the 3.6 release and Firefox 7.0.1 is out. You can download and install the latest release from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ if you would like to update now. The 3.6 version will be maintained for a while longer, but you should update when you can.

  • Clicking on firefox icon causes blue screen crash

This began Friday, Feb. 25, about mid day. The only changes to the system that morning were an update to an Adobe plugin, either Flash player or Shockwave, I'm not sure, and an update to the Scottrade Elite desktop trading app. Both of those changes occurred about 0900. The problems began about 1130 when the system, Windows 7 Home Premium had a blue screen crash. From that time on, I have uninstalled each of the apps mentioned. I cannot open Firefox to work on the plugins becuase every time I click on the icon I get a blue screen crash with the words "Page fault in non paged area" at the top. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the Firefox app with no apparent beneficial effect. The Scottrade trading app has been reinstalled and works well, causing no further probs.

    Hello mrcart,
i think it is unlikely that firefox itself is causing an operating system crash, i had some time back an similar issue where a system of a friend of mine was crashing while using IE - thats the only app he used ... the system in his case had faulty ram, and i suspect you are facing some sort of hardware problem or faulty device driver.
Please read this (also lists steps what you can do):
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc957625.aspx
(personally) I would suggest you start by checking your ram, you can do this in two ways:
Search in your Windows 7 Start Menu for "ram", you should find something like "Diagnose your computer´s memory problems"
... Or, you use the memtest86+ tool from here (e.g. download the iso, burn it and boot from the cd):
    http://www.memtest.org/
Check your eventlog for errors (e.g. disk errors, timeouts, etc).
If you cannot track the problem down (i would suspect a hardware problem or faulty device driver ... e.g. it could be your video card driver doing something wrong) you should seek help at your computer manufacturer, an experienced friend, or using some forum.
    kind regards,
    John Kirk.

  • Blue screen of death, crash broke Mac OS but not Windows?

I was just working on installing Fallout on my bootcamp partition of Windows 7. There was a corrupted file that gave me the blue screen crash, and I had to reload windows into safe mode to get it to quit crashing on me. After I had my fun, I needed to go back on my Mavericks side. I clicked the boot camp icon, and just have it the instructions to reboot into the Mac OS. Now it won't load, after the computer restart, I get the grey apple symbol and then a progress bar on the bottom. I wait for the progress bar to do its thing, and as soon as it hits full (~20min) the computer just shuts off. Does anyone have any experience with this? I haven't seen that progress bar in any other Mac OS 10.X. I am also unable to get it to load into safe mode on the Mac side either. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, I have seen that. I am looking for a way to at least save some information while I am at it. I checked out disc utility, it shows that my Mac partition is there, but it is greyed out. When I try to verify/repair it, it says that it can't do it. If I try to restore it to a secondary harddrive, it doesn't work either. Not from disc utility.
I loaded up my windows side, and downloaded Macrium, which is a disc copier. I formatted my secondary hardrive after taking the movies off of it, to FAT32 so I could still read/write from the Windows side. Interestingly enough, the cloner, Macrium, is perfectly capable of accessing my Mac OS partition. Another something interesting is that while I had it copying over my Mac OS partition onto my secondary HDD, I accidently cancelled it while trying to wake my computer up. I went back into disc utility to format that harddrive again to try again, but when it was formatting it, it said it could not unmount my copied files that were from my Mac OS partition onto the secondary harddrive. Does this mean that there is just something wrong with the file system itself? Does anyone know what might cause this? I just don't want to be given a link to erase everything, it isn't helpful at all.

  • Ever since I upgraded to 10.9.5 on my mac firefox is a grey screen with no menu bar or anything... I've downloaded and reinstalled multiple times now... nothing

firefox is just an empty icon from what i can tell... when i upgraded to 10.9.5 on my mac firefox no longer works. it turns into a grey screen and then just ends up disappearing to the finder window... the application remains on, and won't force quit. I must re-start in order for it to Not be running... I've used firefox and mac for over 8 years and never seen anything like this.... I'm sure it's on the mac side of things, but I'm hoping y'all can fix it... it truly sucks to loose my favorite browser and all my saved bookmarked tabs and all

Your bad charger probably damaged something inside as well.  Your hard drive directory may be damaged too.
If you lack a backup, you should read this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
Otherwise, bring it in for service.

  • Gmail crashes Safari and FireFox in Mac OSX 10.9.2

I'm getting a  crash with both Safari and Firefox. As soon as I try to open up any email in gmail using the standard interface it crashes.  If I use the HTML interface there is no crash but I'm also missing gmail features.   Firefox about:crashes shows the crash occurs in Firefox when it invokes the AudioToolbox from Mozilla's AppleMP3Reader.cpp.  I have no idea why it attempts to process an MP3 file when just opening up the interface.
The Safari trace shows the crashing thread has the following stack.

Once again, the crash is down inside the AudioToolbox.
This is on a two year old MacBook Pro  running OSX 10.9.2 and it only started after the update to the OS.

Finally Got it!!!  Ok, here is what i did: it was a combination of two things i read in different forums.
1st: Go to System Preferences>Security and Privacy and in the "allow apps downloaded from: " section, select "Anywhere".   There is a file in the installation bundle from adobe that is not recognized as coming from an "identified developer".   I then went back to the adobe page and re downloaded most recent flash player.  Tried to reinstall it, and again the same problem as before.  Stopped at 50% asking to close Safari.  So i did the following:
2nd: This time instead of closing Safari by pressing the red button X, I pulled down the safari tab and clicked on exit safari command.  Clicked the retry button on the installation window and magic!!!! it worked.
Finally after 5 frustrating hours it worked....  I never thought i would run in to such a problem with a brand new Mac....  with the money i paid for it, would expect much easier performance in the upgrading process.... and compatibility with adobe.... an issue that should have been resolved long ago.  I guess its a problem on both sides....  some clearer instructions for upgrade would be greatly appreciated.

    Try this:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
