Share selected clip?

iMovie 6 had a 'share selected clip' option if you just wanted to export a small(er) portion of your project. I can't seem to find this in iMovie 09. Can it be done?
The reason i want to do this is because i'm making a DVD, so in iDVD i want to access small portions of my 1 hour movie to include within the drop zones. I don't want to share the whole movie to the media browser just to be able to access very small portions of it.
Any help appreciated.
Grant.

I've been having a good look, as I thought it would speed up some of the jobs I do using it, but sadly, I couldn't find a way to do that. Maybe it is possible but someone with a bigger brain than I might be able to tells us.
In the meantime, you can just make a new project and select the part of the clip you want (pressing 'e' sends the selection straight to the timeline and share form there - hideously tedious when you do it several times, especially when you just delete the last clip you used from the timeline and it tells you you're updating a shared project.... every time zzzz there must be a way to turn that annoying feature off surely

  • Share selected clips only button not enabled for videocamera

iMovie HD 06. I have 3 adjacent, no transitions clips from one iMovie that I am trying to "share" back to the video camera (I had manipulated/extracted and added audio effects to these 3 clips, which don't cut and paste from existing iMovie to a new project) plan was to share to tape, then reimport from tape back to a different iMovie (to at least get the audio back). Unfortunately the "share selected clips only" button is never enabled. Really don't want to share entire movie. Any ideas?

Well that would make too much sense! iLife 05 Quicktime did not maintain widescreen so I was not keen on trying, but (as you probably knew) iLife '06 quicktime is a nicer beast. Actually went into Apple Store and turned out that, more or less, a combination of forum suggestions........WORKED! So to others that have not been able to cut and paste clips that have had audio extracted, etc.with iLife '06: put playhead a bit before your targeted consecutive clips, click and drag from below the audio tracks upwards and to the end of the target. File, Export, Quicktime, Full Quality, Share. Pick your location to share to. And there you go. Then open a new/existing project, Import (find your desired clips), Open. Your clips with audio, special effects all import without a hitch.
    Have you tried it?

  • Share selected clips only

I have a completed 2 hour iMovie project that I want to archive (Share) back to 1 hour tapes. In the share window "Share selected clips only" is grayed out and I cannot select this option. I have tried in both the timeline and clip modes - still grayed.

It works only when exporting to a file.
iMovie HD 5.0.2's share selected clips to camera doesn't stop exporting at the end of the selection:
    http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/iMovieHD_5_bugs.html#shareselected
...so that feature was fixed by disabling it...
...and some issues still remain because iMovie HD 6.0.2's File/Export/iDVD's "Share selected clips only" option puts chapters to the wrong places:

  • Share selected clips will not function correctly

I have a very large iMovie with a lot of clips, each of which contains several chapter stops. If I share only selected clips to iDVD, the chapter stops are scrambled and don't correspond to where they should do. Why is this?

I'll venture a deduction. Since chapter markers (and other edits) are stored as reference points in a master document, if the underlying sequence is disturbed there may be unexpected consequences. For example, if you had a chapter marker at the one minute mark of a movie and then removed 30 seconds clip, then the one minute chapter marker may wind up at the old 1:30 mark.
If you have Quicktime Pro, you could Share/Export the iMovie as a Full-Quality Quicktime file, then all the chapter markers will export in the correct location, and you can use Quicktime Pro to cut out sections as desired. I'm guessing the chapter markers will still be okay because they've been added to the timeline in the Export process.

  • Share "selection only"

Here's what I'd like to do: I've imported an hour long vcr tape and then went ahead and dragged it into the Project as the whole thing will be used, just with chapter breaks and transitions.
But, I'd like to upload 30 second clips from the various Chapters so she can tell me the chapter names/dates and order the video (apparently, it's out of chronological order from it's original conversion.) In iMovie HD, I can choose to "share selection only" - can I do that in iMovie 09?
I've highlighted the selection I want in the project, but if I choose Share to MobileMe gallery or YouTube, is it going to upload the whole project, or just the part I have selected in yellow?
(Incidentally, can I move the imported clip down the chain to iMovie HD if I want - find the DV file maybe and import it to iMovie HD but without any degredation of quality? This mid-age dog doesn't necessarily want to learn any new tricks ... today!)

Ugh - but you mean I have to create a new project for everyone one and leave it all in the event? It would be some much easier to work with the whole project, do the chapter markers as I go, then choose the 30 sec and upload. This video has about 30 different scenes - in HD I could just choose that segment (if I split it).
    Sigh - OK, thanks -

  • Split event before selected clip grayed out

When editing movies, the option "split event before selected clip" is always grayed out...can anyone help???

The reason to split an event is to make the footage easier to find when you start making projects. For example, if you shot a birthday party on the afternoon and a football game at night, they might import into the same Event (based on date). You could select the first clip of football and right-click/Split Event Before Selected Clip. Now you have two Events...a birthday party event and a football event.
This has nothing to do with sharing and projects.
A single project can use clips from many events.
And you can make many projects from the clips in a single event.
The project does not duplicate the footage that is stored in the Event, it just references it.
A project is really a text file that is a recipe for building a movie. The recipe is executed when you "Share" or render your movie.
For example the Project file might say
"Look in Event XYZ and grab frames 1 through 200 from the third clip.
Add an audio track from iTunes, and mute the audio track from the Event.
Add a title that says this or that.
Apply some color correction in these parameters.
Now look at Event QPR and grab the second and third clips, but trim off the last 10 frames."
    Etc.
    Hope this helps.
If you want to share multiple movies from an Event, you just create multiple projects that reference the event. Choose the frames you need by dragging and dropping. And then share the projects.
No need to get QuickTime Pro involved.

  • How to share individual clips?

How do you "see" clips that were imported outside of the FCP interface library bundle, like you could with older versions in Capture Scratch?  Also is there a way to share several clips in a project timeline individually?

Thank you.  I mean, if I have for example, 10 clips, and want to share each clip individually at the same time rather than one clip at a time.  So, I guess, how do you select several ranges and be able to share them at once.

  • Why can't I export only a selected clip?

I am a teacher. I used to record all the kids in a class doing a certain task, and then select the clip of each child and export each child as a separate QuickTime movie. We upgraded machines and now for the life of me I cannot figure out how to export only a selected clip in iMovie '08. Any help appreciated!

Make a separate Project for each child.
Drag the clip of that child into the project. Then Share to whatever format you choose.

  • Selecting Clips for E-mail

Remember in iMovie you could select a clip and SHARE. Then E-mail it using QT.
Well I did a 15 minute Vid in FCEHD and did a voice over for a 15 second clip. Then went to to export... and it keeps using the entire 15 minute video when all I want is the 15 second one to send via E-mail. I am new here and some how I seem to have done it right one time but the voice over I did ..well I mumbled ...so I wanted to re do it and cannot seem to get the same settings. It seems simple and probably is but my brain must be full.
I open FCE and Highlite a clip and do a Voice Over. Then I go to export and save it in QT in my Movies folder...but it always seems to import the whole movie and not the selected clip. What am I doin' wrong. And better yet what did I do right the first time!
    Thanks in advance.
    Rob

In the Timeline, try setting In and Out points that encompass the portion of the program you want to Export
Dont forget to Mixdown your audio (Sequence>Select Only>Mixdown)

  • "Silence Selected Clips in Time Selection" working erratically in Audition CC for OS X

I am working on a multitrack audio file and using the "Silence Selected Clips in Time Selection" to quiet any background noise between pauses. 60-75% or the time it's working fine but the other 25-40% of the time it reacts in a super odd way and takes all of the markers it makes down to -∞ db and I have to fix it myself. I also should note that I am using Synergy to share the keyboard and mouse across screens (in case it is a stuck key issue or something). What is causing this, is it something I can fix?

I have tried it in both Windows 7 and OS X and with and without the mouse sharing software, and with snapping both on and off. Maybe of note is that there are parts that I have silenced and then cut out part of after the fact, I'm not sure if that would affect it or not. Also, just in case it wasn't clear, I am doing this in multitrack view. Here's an example of some of the cuts:

  • Exporting "Selected Clips" and iDVD Chapter Markers from iMovie

I've tried exporting "selected clips" from iMovie . The iDVD Chapter Markers do not appear as a menu option on the initial iDVD menu screen when "selected clips" is checked in the iMovie Share option. The chapter markers are limited to the clips I'm exporting. The "Share" dialog box seems to indicate that Chapter Markers should export but they don't. // I'm trying to break up a movie that's too long for a DVD (but I will later share to video from iMovie). I'd prefer not to make two iMovie projects out of this. Thanks!

    Hello, John,
    Welcome to the discussions.
You can either do your 'share to video from iMovie' before or after creating your iDVDs. But, you will need to create a second iMovie if yours is too long for one DVD and you are wanting to make 2 DVDs from the one long movie.
To make the second one before sharing the entire movie:
Select the clips you want in the second movie, then go to 'Edit' and 'Copy'.
Then, select 'New' iMovie. When it opens, give it a name like "Part2" and then 'Paste' your selected clips. Save the movie, then go back to the first one. Delete the clips you just copied.
Close iMovie. Open your DVD project. Find the 'Media' tab, go to 'Movies' and drag and drop your first movie into iDVD. Finish the iDVD project. Save and close.
Then, create the second iDVD project for your second movie in the same way.
Do 'save as disk image' for each iDVD project. That way your project is intact for each one, and you will not lose anything when you change the iMovies. You can burn your DVDs from the disk images.
Now, go back to your second iMovie. Select the clips and copy. Close that movie and open the first one. Paste the second set of clips. Now you have your original movie back and can do your share to video from it. Delete the second movie.

  • How do I pre-render only portions of the timeline or selected clips?

I'm switching from Vegas Pro to Premiere Pro. In Vegas, you select a portion of the timeline, then hit control-B and it pre-renders that segment.
In Premiere, you hit enter, but it doesn't pay attention to the selected clips, it just pre-renders the entire sequence.
This wouldn't be such a big problem except I'm managing projects that are fairly long, with 20-30 sequences and 20 or so nested sequences in each project and I'm switching between around 18 different projects for a series of 23 or so videos.
These vids are already taxing my system resources with only a few minutes or so (referencing about 80-120gb of source footage), but my office comp is kinda weak.
The problem is that when I pre-render a nested sequence and bring it back to the main timeline, I have to pre-render it *again* after making the next set of adjustments (ie color correction, transitions etc). Then I have to do it AGAIN when I copy it to another timeline for another similar project.
Every time, it can take as long as 15 or 20 minutes (my video card is an nVidia GTX 560 Ti, it has CUDA, but prem doesn't support it for some reason).
When my main timeline glitched out, forcing me to split into different projects, it took me almost 4 hours just to copy things into place with the additional 20 minutes to load the glitched file.
Then I had to go and pre-render everything again to work my edits back into place.
Even when everything is 90% correctly laid out, I still have to wait for the entire sequence to finish pre-rendering.
As above, in Vegas Pro, I just select a portion of the timeline and the pre-render sticks to that area.
I saw an article that said you could create in and out points and use that for rendering, but it doesn't seem to be a CS6 thing.
I heard that Adobe was trying to keep CS6 up to date as a parallel thing to CC. Surely I don't have to switch to a $600/year subscription just so I can pre-render portions of the timeline like a lower-end competitor program has had for something like 5 years...?
What am I missing? There has to be a way to do this simply.

    Are you sure?
I have only 3 options on my Sequence menu.
The first is: Render Effects in Work Area (default shortcut - Enter)
    Then: Render Entire Work Area
    and: Render Audio
No other Render options are available from that menu.
Oddly, those two things are virtually identical. One of them shows 52 clips, the other showed 57 clips. With 26389 frames (approximately...) ETA is around 20-25 mins. That's not very workflow friendly.
It is smart enough that if I pre-render once, making minor changes later makes for much less pre-rendering work, but because I'm working with so many similar projects and sequences, all of them end up needing to be completely re-pre-rendered even if I'm doing a copy-paste and I need to tweak a few little things in one area of the timeline.
This was especially evident recently when in a 3 hour period, I had to go through 4 revisions and needed to keep my original iterations because the person who made the broad, sweeping decisions was making really bad decisions and I knew I would end up going back to my original plan and making a few comparatively simple changes (which is exactly what happened right after the 3 hours).
Out of 3 hours, I could have lost a good hour and a half just waiting around for pre-rendering stuff that hard already been pre-rendered, but because it had been copy-pasted, Prem couldn't see those previous pre-renders.
I actually only lost around 40 mins. But I had to reshoot footage, including setting up lights and camera angles, plus import and do color correction again thanks to no round-tripping to speedgrade and having shot in other areas with those cameras...
If I had been doing it in Vegas, I would have spent only around 10 minutes doing those pre-renders. Oh and Vegas can use my GPU... I'm an Adobe guy mainly, so it's frustrating to see Vegas win on silly niggles like this.

  • Is there a way to change the duration of a group of selected clips all at once?

    Hi all,
I'm working with good old Premiere 6 on Windows 7.
Is there a way to change the duration of a group of selected clips all at once?  If I have a large group of clips in my timeline that are all the same duration, once I've selected them all in a group, can I somehow change the frame number duration of all the clips at the same time?
I've found other things that can be done to a group of clips at the same time, but I can't find a way to change the duration of a group of selected clips.
    Thanks,
    digi

    Thanks Jim and Bill,
In my efforts to work around the problems with the distortion and horizontal interlace lines that come when using the Motion Settings, I'm doing stop frame animation with hundreds and hundreds of layers in PSDs in multiple files placed in hundreds of one, four and six frame sections in Premiere, so if I find that I need to change the number of frames per clip in hundreds of consecutive clips (not actual duration of speed changes), then I need to pull out the right side of hundreds of frames after first moving them apart enough to allow for changing them if I'm making them longer.
These animations are different from the rotating reel animations in that they are for laterally moving subjects that are long streams of moving graphics and photos.
I read about "clip nesting", but I think that only applies to clips or groups of clips that are the same, whereas my clips are each from different imported layers times 125 or so, consecutively placed one after another to create the laterally moving stop frame animation.
Now I've tried johnbmx4christ's alternate method of creating rotations that was just posted on the other thread about the rotation distortion, but that method results in the same oblong distortion and messed up looking horizontal interlace lines.
    What a can of worms.
    Thanks,
    digi

  • Something happened, now I can't select clips in the timeline of my current project(in Elements 4)

I've been working on a project for a few days now, everything's been fine. Last night while editing, something happened when I was trying to add a transition between two clips. Now I can't select or edit any clips in the timeline anymore, and can't add new ones. When I click on the clips in the timeline, nothing happens. When I try to drag the select box around several of them, same thing. It acts like there's nothing to select. Same thing with right clicks, soundtrack mp3s, etc. The clips ARE still THERE though, and they all play fine in the preview screen in real time, and when I drag the slider back and forth along them.
All the clips are already rendered except the one transition I was adding when this started. When I hit 'Enter' to render, though, it says "Rendering 1 of 6 Audio Previews" instead of the usual x-number of video previews. I've not seen that before so it probably has something to do with all this.
It's ONLY with this one project. I can still edit and select clips in all my other projects as before.
I've already tried loading other projects and then coming back to this one, as well as closing the program and re-opening it. My current project is still stuck like this but the others are fine.
Please keep all this info in mind. This can't have anything to do with codecs or the clips being in the wrong format for the program. They're all regular AVI files and MP3s, I've been selecting and editing every single clip on this timeline dozens of times over the past few days with no problems. I'm just suddenly not able to select or edit them anymore or add anything new to the timeline, but they still play normally as previews.
I'm really hoping this is a simple thing where I've just tripped some setting and accidentally saved it that way and it can be easily changed back.

OK, then all that I suggested here:
Now, Exit from PrE, and Shutdown the computer completely. Wait a few moments, and then do a cold boot, launching PrE and Opening that Save_As Project. Do you now have the ability to edit the Clips on the Timeline?
If not, go to the location where you Copied the AutoSave folder, and view the files with Detail View ON. Then, look at the Date/Time of the files (probably will be 5 of them). Choose the last one written, Open that, and test. If no change, work backwards to the oldest.
If nothing is working, the only thing that comes to my mind would be an issue with the display driver, BUT that should affect all Projects, and not just this one. However, updating the video driver is always a good step, and should not hurt anything.
Note: many MP3's can cause all sorts of problems. I recommend always converting them to PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit, and replacing MP3's with those WAV files. One can use the great, free audio-editor, Audacity, to convert the MP3's.
If all of the above tests fail, let us know, and if you get any error, or warning messages, copy those down completely, and post those
    all failed too?
If so, there is nothing that I can suggest. It seems that your Project is hosed, and is very likely not recoverable.
    Sorry,
    Hunt

Clip inspector in imovie not working properly - when I select a picture (in project library) - and select clip adjustment it tells me that I need to select one or more clips to view Inspector tools and when I select a movie clip and then click on audio adjustments the audio adjustment appears as a speaker icon and I don't know how to get to the various audio options? It was working fine one minute and then I seemed to lose the functionality. Also editing a photo in a photo or getting rid of ken burns effect etc does not seem to work. help

Can anyone shed any light on this as I am having the same problem? One minute it works fine, the next you get the error message above.
