Share specific playlists with specific accounts?

I've just begun setting up accounts for my family members on my iMac since we are all beginning to amass our own music/movies/videos/photos. Is there an easy way to have each account have access only to specific playlists within my iTunes library (which would be every song on the iMac)? I looked at sharing playlists in iTunes preferences but I don't see how to get it to work with each account.

I just reread my post and I see I'm not being clear....
I want the admin account to have the entire library while each user has access only to user-specific playlists.

How do I share my playlists with other accounts/users on my Mac?

    Hello,
I have a similar question, which I posted 8perhaps inappropriately) in the Home Sharing discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17405588#17405588
The problem I have is that it simply doesn't work and the question I have is how you do not move the the iTunes Library file or the iTunes Library.xml file when they are actually in the folder you are told by the article to move in the first place.

How can i share a playlist with my family in another town?

You can export the tracklist from iTunes.  You shouldn't be sending actual music to them since that would be in violation of copyright.

  • How can I share only a specific playlist with another family device?

I purchased an iPod Touch for my Dad for Christmas.  I am trying to share only a selected playlist with the new device without synching everything that I have on my iPhone and iPad to his device.  I have turned on home sharing but can't figure out how to limit the automatic sync that kicks off when I plug the new iPod into my PC.  Any suggestions?

    Hello roaminggnome
Unfortunately the support is down at the moment, I will have a better look later. I did go though the Apple support previously, however I found nothing that worked.
The first thread I came across was “Home Sharing” however no mater what I did, it did not appear in the iTunes sharing list (I did go though the “Show Sharing Networks” support as well)
Secondly, I saw “Using A Single Library With Multiple Accounts On The Same PC” (Something like that) but all this did was let us share the same music location, if I was to rip extra music, it will not show in there library

  • How do I sync only specific playlists with iCloud?

When I used to sync my iPhone & iPods to my iMac, I could easily select specific playlists to sync. However, since I "upgraded" to the iCloud music service, I don't see any way to exclude playlists from the sync. Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks Michael.  I switched from manual sync, and selected sync only checked songs, while at the same time unchecking certain playlists in iTunes.  I don't know if that's the best way or not, but it worked for me.
Your tip on how to check and uncheck songs in large groups was really helpful, because I have multiple ipods to sync, and I want these playlists on some of them, so that makes it pretty easy to update checked and unchecked songs as needed.  Thanks.

  • How to share iMovie library with other accounts without duplicating files?

I'm looking for information on how to share an imovie library with other accounts on the same computer without duplicating files.  If I  copy imovie files to the shared folder each user is required to import the files to their library which duplicates the files.  It would be nice if imovie had the option of including events/projects shared in the share folder.  Is there an option to change everyone's default library to a shared folder?  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

The easiest way to do this would be to atach an external drive. The external drive should be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). If you have a drive that is formatted some other way, you can reformat it using Disk Utility. It can be Thunderbolt, Firewire, or USB, but Firewire or Thunderbolt will give best performance for video.
Now you need to move the projects and events over to the external drive. This must be done from within iMovie.
In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK.
Now, in the Project Library View, hold down the command key while dragging the small icon for each project to the small icon for the external drive. Now select one of these projects and click FILE/CONSOLIDATE MEDIA. This will enable you to move associated Events, Photos, and Music to the external drive. Repeat for all projects.
If any events are left over at the end of this, because they are not used in any of your projects, you can move them to the external drive by working in the Event Library list. Hold down the Command Key while dragging the small icon for the Event in the Event Library List to the small icon for the External Drive. Repeat until all the Events are moved.
Now you can edit these movies on any user account.
For future clips that you import from a camera, be sure to select the external drive as the location.

  • Sharing playlists with specific spotify users (neither public nor collaboration)

Hello. Hope someone can help me with this. I do not want my friends to sign up to Facebook. They have spotify.
I do not want my playlists to be public. I want specific friends (who have spotify user accounts) to access my playlist because I allow them. I do not want them to "collaborate" and add to it.
What are the steps to do this? Why is the UX so arcane inside spotify? Much appreciate any pointer. Thank you.

Currently, the only thing you can do is share your private playlist.
You have the ability to send it to individual people to view or you can post to your followers.

  • Unable to share a folder with specific users

    Hi,
I'm attempting a seemingly simple task on my home network of 4 computers. I want to share a folder located on one computer, called PC1, with another computer called PC2 with full read/write permission. All other machines on the network are not to have access
to this folder. Both machines are running Windows 7.
On PC2, I am able to see the shared folder under Networks but if I try to open it, I keep getting a 'You do not have permission to access...' error. The following are the steps I've taken to set up the network share.
Both machines are on the same workgroup.
Both machines are on the home network, not work/public.
Turned off homegroup on both machines in Advanced Networking Properties by selecting "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers".
Created a standard non-admin user account on PC1 that has the same username/password as the admin login used to log into PC2.
On PC1, right-clicked the folder I want to share and added the above user account to both the Sharing and Security tabs.
Removed the Everyone group in PC1 from both the Sharing and Security tab for the shared folder.
If I am missing a step, please let me know. I have noticed that if I add  the Everyone group back to the Sharing and Security tab for the shared folder on PC1, I am able to have full access from PC2. However, since I want to restrict access
to this folder to only one machine, I didn't want to have the Everyone group listed.

  • Setting UP to Print on Specific Papers with Specific Settings

I am setting up a brand new iMac, with new applications and using it with four different Epson Printers.  I have downloaded
the printer drivers and successfully gotten three out of four printers to work with the various Apple based applications and with Microsoft
Products - but I cannot get anything from CS4 suite to print except on a very basic level of low quality on plain paper.  I cannot get past
the initial print window.  Below please see the only print window i can get in these programs - it doesn't allow me to select paper type,
print quality etc. - in the second photo you will see one of the windows that I need so I can specify glossy, matt, presentation paper etc.
and in the third photo as well.  Anyone know how I get CS4 programs to cooperate with my printers? So I can get the quality and specific
    paper type I need going?

Thanks for the quick response.  I went a little further using your images - but I am getting terrible print results and not all the functions are available.
Here is where I got to on the R1800.
First image is straight from hitting Print from the pull down menu
Ouch!  Ouch!  Ouch!   You're doing several things wrong.
    • The first one is that you are letting the printer manage colors.  Very, very bad move.
    • You're printing essentially an 8x10 (approx.) at an unacceptably low, even lousy resolution of 125 ppi.
    • You have a color working space (a device independent color space), sRGB (where the "s" stands for sh¡t), set as your printer profile.  That's just awful.  You should have a device-dependent target profile specific to the particular combination of paper/ink/printer you are using.
You need to start learning about color management and printing here:
    http://www.gballard.net/psd/cmstheory.html
Once you have digested that entire web site, come back here of you still have any questions.
    • Regarding the second screen shot,  DO NOT use a "Preset"  (in your case it's something you labeled "Glossy Ltr Super Photo").  Select "None" there!
    • In that same panel, click and hold where it says "Layout", that will cause the drop down menu to drop, and on it you can select "Printer Settings", which will in turn present you with another drop down menu further down where you can select your media (paper).

  • How can I share a playlist with another iOS device that they can play when they're offline?

I have created a playlist in iTunes for someone in my family and have authorised him for home sharing. He can listen to the playlist when on our wifi at home, but how can he listen to it on his iPhone when he is away from home?

What you are asking isn't possible as devices must be logged in to the same wifi and with the same Apple ID for Home Sharing to work.

  • How to share a playlist with remote friends

iTunes Ping is gone, playlists in the Store are gone, so how can I now give my friends (not in my wi-fi, of course) a way to listen to a list of song I like? I don't want (and it's illegal) to give them my audio files, just a way to listen a preview!

I know of apps that can access shares and download but I am not aware of any apps that will allow you to upload as well.

  • How do I share different applications with each account on my computer?

I just got an iMac and transferred my information over from my mac book. So now my iMac has my iTunes, Microsoft Office, iCal, and Address Book on my account (I am the administrator). This is the family computer so my wife needs access to the iCal and Address Book that I update. How do I get these applications to come up in the different accounts? Right now, each account only has the basic programs. For example, they all have iTunes but they are empty, mine shows all of our music and videos. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

You need to make a shared folder in which both you and your wife have write access.
First go to System Preferences -> Accounts, click the + button, and make a new user group. Call it something like "hubbywifey". Put your and your wife's user accounts in that group.
Then make a new folder in /Users/Shared called "sharedstuff".
Then open Terminal and enter this (paste in all three lines at the same time):
    chmod +a "hubbywifey allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" \
    /Users/Shared/sharedstuff
That will ensure that anything copied or saved in that folder will be readable and writable by you and your wife.
Then locate the files you need to move there. In the case of Address Book, the folder is your homefolder/Library/Application Support/Address Book. Hold down the option key while you drag the folder to the new location in sharedstuff. Once you have verified that the files have copied correctly you can delete them from the old locations.
You then need to make an alias back to the original location. Control-option-command-drag the /Users/Shared/sharedstuff/Address Book folder back to its original location in homefolder/Library/Application Support. Then log in to your wife's account and repeat the last step. You now have a completely shared address book.
