SHARE TIME CAPSULE AS THROUGH INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB

SHARE TIME CAPSULE AS THROUGH INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB

Most ISP correctly block SMB over internet. It is too insecure .. use VPN to a different router and place the TC behind it.
Besides TC does not expose SMB to WAN.. same reason. You have to port forward SMB.
You can use SMB on some strange port.. there are instructions if you want you networked just use them.

  • Access to the time capsule harddrive through internet.

    Hi everyone,
I bought a few months ago a Time capsule and it is working perfeclty as a network and hard drive under. It is connected to the router unde a  bridge mode.
My prooblem is coming when I want to access through internet with my Macbook  to my time capsule as it is not possible but according the time capsule specification it is possible to have acces to the harddrive through internet. So it means I have to change soemthing in the setp up on the router (P-2812HNU-F1) or in the time capsule.
Can anyone help me to set up the time capsule and the router  accordingly to be able to have acces to the harddrivethrough internet?
    Thanks

Have you tried using BTMM and iCloud method?
That is the only method Apple provisioned on the TC and apple network.
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
If you are having issues you need to tell us more..
Sometimes it seems the TC in bridge will not work.. if that is the case, then you must see if you can rearrange your network so the TC is the main router.
Or you need to use a manual access method.
This requires using a static public IP (Check with your ISP.. this is by far the best method) or use a dyndns service.. and port forward 548 TCP to the TC.. there are thousands of posts and youtube videos with the info. Just look up "remote access time capsule"
This is a good post to start with.

    hi,
Can you try to input the private ip address of the SAP router server instead of the public. Client should be connected in your network.

  • New Airport Time Capsule Dropping Wifi/Internet with 7.7.1

Last week I bought a new Airport 2TB Time Capsule and had everything up and running within minutes. However, less than 24 hours later, the wifi signal started dropping devices all around the house. It started with the AppleTV, and eventually dropped our iPhones and iPad as well. The problem is one I've seen on these forums before (however, not with this new model).
I since exchanged it, and the new model is having the identical issues.
Basically, the problem is 1 of 3 things:
    1. You'll look down at your iPhone (or whatever device that is wirelessly connected), and see a full wifi signal. However, you'll have lost access to the Internet. Using the AirPort app won't find the Airport Time Capsule. Sometimes turning off wifi on the iPhone and turning it back on fixes the issue, sometimes the Airport Time Capsule needs to be restarted.
    2. The AirPort Time Capsule stops broadcasting SSID at random intervals. Even when standing right next to it, there is no way to join the network.
    3. The Internet connection drops in the middle of a browsing session (usually while using an iPhone).
On both devices (the original new one, and the replacement exchange), I immediately ran the firmware update. So, I'm thinking this could be a firmware issue.
This router replaces a Linksys e3000 that was working flawlessly. It's connected to a Cox Cable Cisco DOCSIS 3.0 modem (modem only, no router). The AirPort Time Capsule runs in WPA2 protected mode. It's running DHCP and NAT, and 2.4 and 5ghz are currently running the same network name (although I've tried separating them to no effect).
I am at my wits end. I find it hard to believe that both of these routers are defective. And I also find it hard to believe that I'm doing something wrong in the setup of this simple device, considering I've been working with all kinds of very complicated routers for over a decade without this kind of problem.
So I come to you, community, for help!
    Thank you in advance!

I don't have one.. but your testing is conclusive.. the TC is not stable on this firmware.. Apple will no doubt fix it .. I think their secrecy in marketing leads to less than adequate testing.. you are expecting to buy a mature product.. remember this is a ground breaker.. this is the first all new design since Gen1 TC.. all previous models used Maxell processor and chipset.. albeit with various wireless cards.. now it is broadcom.. processor and wireless.. this also runs apple written firmware.
Broadcom OEM firmware.(linux and hence open source) supplied to all manufacturers of products based on the chipset.. well that would be just wrong for apple... it has to be done in NETBSD,, so it is not open source.. the very thought.. open source.. . that would give everyone access to controls apple don't want you to have.. http setup even.. couldn't allow that.. so apple have to write the firmware from scratch and to match all those apple protocols. Hence where they are now now.
And your role is beta tester.. didn't you know.
Return it and stick with your Linksys (broadcom, Linux open source)  until Gen 6 TC comes out.
Unless you like the bleeding edge.

  • Time Capsule Installation on VMware Fusion Windows xp and Mac 10.5.2 sides

I've got the Time Capsule w/ time machine working on the Mac side of my laptop, and yet am avoiding a second attempt to load / install the same on my XP side due to the first time I tried, it didn't work and I had to go back and re-install it on the Mac side.
I'm assuming that the currently working 'Time Machine' is only able to see and back-up, via the Time Capsule, the Mac side of the hard drive? Although, if it sees the whole drive, both XP and OSX sides, then all is good, and my windows based data is being backed-up.
Maybe the Time Capsule can only work with windows as an external drive,
and yet hoping it can also work as a semi automatic back-up disk.
Appreciate any insight, advise and/or references to material that would help.
    Thanks

I asked this very question on another forum, as I had received differing answers previously. Here is the link to my question and to the answers I received, which seem pretty dispositive. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=5305380#post5305380
As you will see, the short answer is that the Win side is not being backed up, but how you should configure your TM backups of your Mac side depend on whether or not you first partitioned with Boot Camp and then installed VM Fusion, or whether you installed Fusion without Boot Camp. (I now use Windows Live OneCare to back up the Win side to the TC, although configuring it to work with TC was a nightmare I care not to have ever to repeat.)

  • How to use Time Capsule via INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB Cloud

how to use Time Capsule via INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB Cloud

Get a vpn router.. I have no idea where you are in the world but you can find reasonable stuff for not too much money or even a general router that takes third party firmware like dd-wrt can run openvpn.
Set up the vpn router in place of the TC, as the main router in the network. Simply bridge the TC and place it behind the router. It will be accessible as part of the network via the vpn.
This is the only safe way to do it via windows.
    http://www.dyncommunity.com/questions/18132/accessing-time-capsule-from-windows- 7-over-the-int.html
If you google around I have seen posts about how to access TC by port forwarding SMB on the TC.. using a different port.. To me this is going to slow down the hackers by a day or two.. then they will discover the open port and access your network.. not just the TC.. they now have SMB access to everything. Don't do it. There is very little security on SMB.

  • Windows 7 connects to Time Capsule but not internet

I have a macbook pro and two windows vista pcs that connect and surf the internet fine with Time Capsule, however, for two windows 7 laptops, they detect the network and can connect to the network, but cannot connect to the internet.
I'm not sure what the problem is, and diagnosing/repairing the network does not help.
So currently the network looks like this with the Windows 7 laptops:
W7 Laptop --- Time Capsule Network -x- Internet

I too have this problem, I see that there is a solution solved notice at the top of the page, but I do not see the solution.

TM does not work like that.
If you want files to use later.. do not use TM.
Or do not use TM to the same location. Plug a USB drive into the computer and use that as the target for the permanent backup.
Read some details of how TM works so you understand what it will do.

  • How do I access my time capsule over the internet

How do I access my time capsule over the internet. I've already set it up to share over WAN, but I have ATT so my TC is connected to the router provided by ATT can I still access my TC via the internet even though its not directly connected to the Ethernet?

The TC should be in bridge mode.. not setup to share over wan.. that will never work. That is assuming you haven't bridged the ATT router.
Once you bridge the TC see if you can setup BTMM using icloud settings in the TC. As per the Apple docos.. here.
You should also be able to directly access the TC since you have a router with dyndns client at a guess.. the setup is simply forward port 548 to the TC.
Google search this.. there is huge number of resources available. eg

  • My Time Capsule does not work with existing WiFi

Following a question solved on March 24 by LaPastenague, but gone bad again.
    Apple AirPort Time Capsule
I felt the need for a physical backup of my data, as I would not completely trust the different clouds. I use, and have used Dropbox for 4-5 years and are very satisfied with that, but I am still not sure if or when a political lunatic will shut off the internet.
I purchased the Apple AP Time Capsule 2T, because all my other stuff are Apple, and that it's wireless. My old backup is Maxtor 300 GB.
Since we stay 2-3 weeks on two locations, one in Norway and one in Sweden (two different countries) we must use Mobile Broadband 4G, cables or fibre connections are useless for us, and we don't have it up to the houses. I have one mini router for each country, we bring with us iPhones, iPads, iMac, Apple TV, APExpress. When we pass the boarder I change the mini router, and the system continues working perfect on the WiFi, except the APExpress that needs to be reconfigured,  but then it works.
The APTC was difficult to make working as it would not accept to be in an existing network, but with good help from the Apple Community, LaPastenague, with forcing the TC connect to the APE with Ethernet cable in bridge mode, ref "My Time Capsule does not work with existing WiFi" from March 24, the problem was solved and all gadgets worked together in a perfect harmony, until we changed location.
Now, as I have my second WiFi network, and the APExspress is reconfigured, it's like the TC thinks, I am the base boss here, I am not taking orders from APE one more time, and it simply does not work, not only that, it fluctuates all the time.
I have a slight feeling that the two WiFi bands are making the trouble as during the configuration of the TC sometime the last figure 6 and 7 pops up, and that has something two do with the two different 2,4 and 5 GHZ bands
So, I am curious if you have any idea ?
I am thinking of returning the TC if I don't make it work now, but how do I delete all the data that's on it?

I can deal with the last question first and easily.
I am thinking of returning the TC if I don't make it work now, but how do I delete all the data that's on it?
Open the airport utility .. go to the disk tab and select erase.
When you select erase you will get mulitiple options.
Quick removes the file table but does not delete the files,, it takes 2min or less.
A Zero out data is the secure way,, by writing 0 ie low level drive format.
    It can take several hours..
7 pass will take a week.. not recommended..
35 pass erase is ridiculous.. it would take a month.. put an ax through the TC. It is quick and better.
Now, as I have my second WiFi network, and the APExspress is reconfigured, it's like the TC thinks, I am the base boss here, I am not taking orders from APE one more time, and it simply does not work, not only that, it fluctuates all the time.
The fact that it did work and has now failed might point to faulty unit.
The only way to tell is reset it properly to factory and start over.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Generally having multiple wireless AP should not cause problems.. but it is better to set channels manually.. so it doesn't go beserk rotating channels.
Remember to keep all names short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Sadly though the Apple routers have no logging now and no SNMP and almost nothing to help diagnose a problem, so if it continues .. take it back to apple.. they have given you no other method of fixing it.

  • Time Capsule is not seen by Windows Computer :(

Hello everyone. I have a 500GB Time Capsule, I believe it is the first model that came out. I have a PC that currently has Windows 7 installed on it, and a MacBook Pro with the latest version of Snow Leopard. I have always been able to access the Time Capsule on the MBP.
I just installed Win7 from Windows XP. Before I started fiddling around with the Win7 install (had to create a bootable thumb drive because my dvd drive is being exclusively grumpy), I could access the Time Capsule's shared folders with no problem. After I got the Win7 drive complete, I was unable to connect to the Time Capsule. Even after I got Win7 up and running, the latest AirPort Utility installed et cetera, I still cannot see the shared folders on the Time Capsule.
I can log into the Time Capsule using the AirPort Utility on both the Mac and the PC, but when I go to connect to it with the proper password I get errors. First one I got was error 53, so I enabled NetBIOS under the TCP/IP settings for my network adapter and restarted my machine. No luck, it still gives error 53 (make sure netbios is enabled and try again).
Anyone have any idea what I can do to resolve this issue?

I'm also getting the same message. I'm running Windows 7 Premium 64 bit. When I go to "SAVE BACK-UP ON:" the only device recognized is the DVD-RW drive. The windows computer networks fine through my home network and with my Mac computers, I just can't back up to the T/C's hard drive.
I did find the following information while trying to fix the problem under SET BACKUP> GUIDELINES FOR CHOOSING A BACKUP.
"You can only save your backups on a network location on Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise"
Also on windows website under compare, it says "In addition to full system back up and restore found on all additions, you can backup to a home or business network." There is no check mark for the premium edition.
Can you others that are having this problem tell me what edition your using??
    Thanks in advance

  • Can I access the data on the time capsule from the Internet?

Can I access the data on the time capsule from the Internet?

You need to follow the BTMM via icloud instructions.
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
There are plenty of other ways to do it.. but issues to do with Apple not using a dynamic DNS client so if your ISP does not allocate you a static public IP there is no way to find it, if the public ip rotates as they are designed to do hourly or daily.
Do a google search, remote access time capsule..
Or use the more like this on the right hand side... there are plenty of posts and even youtube video which go right through it.
BTW your school system may simply block the port.. if I was a school IT admin.. I would. You are dragging files across to the internal school network bypassing the firewall.. that is unacceptable risk to the whole school system.

  • Utilisation Time Capsule comme routeur internet

    Bonsoir,
    Cordialement
    David

Do not copy the settings.. start over with factory reset of the new TC and redo the setup.
Make sure that the TC has an IP other than 10.x.x.x if your local IP is in that range. ie
If your distributed network is 192.168.x.x. then the TC can be default, 10.0.1.x
But if the distributed network is 10.x.x.x then you must move the IP of the TC to 192.168.
Double NAT is not without issues.

  • Map Network Drive to Time Capsule from WinXP Home with reconnect at logon

I bridged my TimeCapsule on a wired home network. TC provides wireless(n/g) for a Macbook & Dell Laptop, print server, and storage. MAC & PC's all access internet; The Mac & PC's were able to find a reasonable driver for the printer (not a generic); and visibility to the TC and even Mac<-->PC (all on the same WINS Workgroup; file sharing/AFP/SMB turned on) working OK.
I want to have a single drive letter mapped to a TC folder during a PC login. Using Windows Map Network Drive... I can supply \\server\share as my \\[mytimecapsulename]\[path to folder] and then I use "connect as different user" and supply the username/password as specified in the AirPort Utility setup for TC. Then I click Reconnect at Logon, and Finish. Windows is "happy" and the connection is made, applications on the PC that need the folder have access to the folder according the permissions on the TC. Sweet.
Until, logoff and logon, and XP burps "not able to establish all network connections". Exploring MyComputer shows the Mapped Drive (but disconnected), double-click I'm prompted for username/password; enter it and I'm runnning.
This seems to be a workaround, and I'd like to have the reconnect work seamlessly.

    Thank you Steve.
I want to test my understanding. The TC password and the Windows login passwords should be the same. If there are more than one Windows users, then both of their passwords should be the same as the TC password?
My understanding of "connect using different user name" is that I supply a username that the TC understands, i.e. the username/password set up in AirPort utility, and I would not supply any of the Windows accounts/passwords. This has worked for me. I supply the time-capsule-username/password not my Windows username and the Map Network Drive makes the connection. But it doesn't make the Reconnet at logon.
So it sounds like what I should try is to change the timecapsule password to match the Windows account password of the windows user attempting to connect to the TC. Which means I'm limited to one password even if there are more than one Windows users attempting to connect.
Sound about right? I'll try it out and let you know 6-12 hrs.

  • Apple Time Capsule Keeps Dropping Internet

My Apple Time Capsule keeps dropping internet or having extremely slow internet. If I run a speed test I am getting 90+mbs. What occurs is if I try to load a page, there will be a very long delay and sometimes the page will eventually load, other times it won't. When I try to stream something from youtube, If I can get to the page of the video, it won't have an issue. When I hard wire to my modem, I don't have an issue at all. Only hardwired through the router or using wireless through the router does this occur. The light on the router never has turned amber and the link light on my modem is constantly flashing. The only thing that will occur is that the Apple Airport utility keeps connecting and disconnecting from my modem.
I've reset the router and modem. I've restored the router to factory settings and reset up my network, all to no success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Thinking I'll replace the motorola with a Cisco DPC3010
You may find it is not much better..
I do think the problem is more on the Apple side..
If you are a tech.. let me suggest you make yourself up a 100 mbit (ie use only the two pairs) crossover cable..
If that does not work.. try reverse polarity..ie in the ethernet on one end swap + and - .. It is an issue that has cropped up before where ethernet is just wired wrongly.. and it doesn't fail completely but becomes unreliable.
BTW the hardware reliability of the new AC version apple routers.. is definitely on the bottom of the apple list.
I bought an AC TC and the first one had this WAN port issue from day one.. when I replaced it after a week (it died completely which was convenient).. the second one has been much better).
The modems I have heard that works well is the zoom or ubee..
Using another router doesn't need to be expensive.. you can still stick to the apple in bridge.. you only need a router that does routing..
And the TP-Link can be flashed to gargoyle.. a hugely superior firmware btw.. solid .. reliable and it will track usage and do a lot of stuff well beyond Apple's keen.
