Share to Behance feature completely kills my mac pro.

When trying out the share to behance feature with both photoshop and illustrator it kills my mac completley. I have tried a few times, also uninstalled and re-installed the softeware but each time i press that button a empty window appears and then i can do nothing else with the computer. A spinning wheel does show and the mouse pointer can move, however nothing on the computer can be activated, no going to finder, no force quit, nothing. The only way forward is to press and hold the main power button.
This is happening on a Mac Pro  2x 3GHz Quad-Core with 12g ram.
How can this be solved?
cheers
Paul.

Holding down Command+R on startup is internet recovery for Lion...this should work.

  • Adobe completely silent on Mac Pro & After Effects

It appears after reading the dozens of posts on the Adobe forums regarding this issue, Adobe simply will not offer a solution, as it has been reported steadily since the middle of this year.  Of the few responses to the community, an Adobe representative stated in October, 2014 that they are working with Apple on the issue.  Over 2 months and I still have useless software.  People with newer Mac Pros (mine is a 6 core, 3gb GPU) have crawling renders since After Effects 2014.  We have tried running on both Yosemite and Mavericks, but nothing.
I am a loyal customer of Adobe for nearly a decade, but this really makes me wonder if my film company can rely on Adobe products moving forward.

As an example in this post: Re: After Effects CC really slow in response

Hallo again! Is there any news about the issue that i'm experiencing? I've read a lot of threads on the net of people that have the same problem (i have posted my experience there too).
I have installed AE CS6 and i'm working with it,but i really want to understand if Adobe's team is working on this or not. I use AE in 90% of my works.
    Thank you again,

We don't tend to remain silent on anything about which we can offer useful information.
Okay here are a few more, from Adobe website and Cow including a blog posting from an Adobe employee, putting the blame on "App Nap".  I left one of our Mac Pros on Mavericks and put one on Yosemite to see if the problem that has been reported has been fixed.  Nope.

  • How can I reinstall Safari after losing it completely on my Mac Pro?

Somehow I deleted Safari from my MacBook and there is no trace of it on my computer.  I am trying everything and failing.  Please help!  Thank you in advance!

Have you tried using Software Update? Have you tried reinstalling it from the pre-bundled software installer that came on your original installer discs for the computer?  Have you tried downloading Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard from Apple's support site?

  • No more Mac Pro, Apple you're killing me

I waited 6 years where I work to get a Mac. We finally did and my work life put me on cloud 9. Have been a Mac user my whole life.  I do audio production for TV and work on about 5 projects a day. I work on news stories, 5 minute documentary testimonies, 30 min weekly shows, and even 2 hour productions. I have Nuendo, Final Cut and Premiere open ALL DAY. My Mac Pro just keeps on chugging along all day, no worries. The big highlight of my life is I wrote over 90 Applescripts and use 20 EVERYDAY. These Mac feature really allows me to go home without a headache or carpal tunnel.
With Apple killing the Mac Pro, my workplace will be forced to go back to using PC's............I am seriously thinking about changing my career.  My output will decrease. Stress will go up because I wont have automation to mount servers, rename files and move files. Servers will become 144.33.65.1 instead of "VideoTape".  I thought the death of Steve was bad, this is even worse. I've been a loyal Mac advacate since 1988. Just got my 1st iPhone. I have converted so many people to the Mac. I love my 17" Macbook Pro, I do Lightwave 3D, Motion, FCP, and so many other things on it. My work life is headed for the toilet. Crash........Crash........Crash.............wait.........I have to manually retype all the file names in this production.  My stomach is churning just thinking out it.
    Ouch. Thanks Apple.

I'm in the video industry, so I share your concerns.
However, Apple has not yet done or said anythng. All that's happened is Apple Insider has reported on a rumour to (succesfully) stir the pot and get some page views. No-one knows anything.
In a few years when you can get a thunderbolt 4 slot PCI box, hook it up to a macbook pro, and you have the functional equivalent of a mac pro, then maybe it goes away. But I don't think that day is today.
    Well, I hope not.

  • Updating your older Mac Pro for a few more years of good use...

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my tips for getting your aging Mac Pro running better for Mavericks and the FCPX 10.1.
Please note your Mac Pro's specs before doing what did..I am an editor and use the 3 big A's to get my work done. Adobe, Apple, Avid (not so much Avid)
I got a great deal on it for only $1300. I did a bunch of research and decided my upgrade options were best for my machine and the way I use it so your upgrade options my differ slightly. (do your research!!!)
I have 2009 Nehelem Mac Pro 2x 2.66 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon.  Installed was 6GBs of factory RAM, an upgraded ATI 512 GPU, and 1,  1TB WD Black system drive. (this was a nice upgrade compared to my 4 core Mac Pro)
I was running 10.8 and all my apps were installed and running. I installed 3 more 7200rpm drives to fill the drive bays. Momentus XT's 2TB each.
(I upgraded to Mavericks, as  you know it overwirtes the old OS, I wanted the new FCPX...) more on this later.
    1- RAM,
I removed the puny 6GBs of RAM it came with and installed 32GBs of 1066 Mhz DDR3 from OWC. I decided 32 would be enough for my needs looking into the App requirments and of course the cost. I noticed a slight difference in some performance. (to my dissapointment) fcpx beachballs!!
However now you will have more RAM to allocate RAM for programs that can read it. After Effects anyone...
    link- http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#1066-memory
    2-GPU,
I had a 5770 sitting in the closet, and put that in and bascilly it sucked!   I never like the 5770.  fcpx beachballs!!
I contacted apple they informed me FCPX is written for GPUs and that a large card (while they didnt suppport it at the time) would be the best upgrade to better performance. So I installed the AMD Sappire 7950 3GB GPU from OWC. This is a monster card! and right away I noticed a huge difference in the perfromace of FCPX and AE! Not only that but the card supports up to 2K I believe... and is a great price... and for you gear heads it looks bad *** and the fan is super quiet!
    less fcpx beachballs
    link-http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sapphire/100352MAC/
    3- Hardrive,
Ok so now I'm thinking my machine is a beast! I have all this RAM and a huge GPU and the top ESATA drives you can buy, butI was still getting beachballs and FCPX was painfully slow at times..needless to say I felt Apple backing my in a corner to drink more coolaid a get the new small round black can...What to do???
As I mentioned before I did not do a clean install....Most folks dont like going through the pain of 2 days to do a clean install but I knew deep down it would have ot be done. Before I did that I decided to do some research on those new SSD cards everyone is raging about. Remeber your Mac Pro's bus speed is only so big...remember this when doing this last and most important upgrade!!
The market has all kinds of SSD drives for sale and OWC has a PCIe option (too much money for me) they have 3G drives 6G drives and so on. I could be wrong but buying a more expensive 6G card is a waste of money with bus speed of the Nehelem (this my differ with Westmere) I bought an of the self Kingston Hyper X 120GB (get at least 240GB if you can) and the OWC Mac Pro Drive Sled.
This by far was the best upgrade! Before installation please go through the pain of the clean install...For Mavericks you need to create a bootable drive on a USB stick first. You then need to monut SSD in an empty enclosure in order to get it to mount for the OS to be installed

ESATA CARD-  4 Port 6G Caldigit esata card.
USB 3.0- Newertech 2 port USB3.0 Mac Pro Card. I dont recommend buying this card. Mac Pro Nehelem, was not made for USB3.0 and the drives I plug into it rarely mount...if ever mount... restart...when they do its a little faster than firewire and close to my Esata options. Dont bother....
I have setup my drive structure as follow.
Drive Bay 1 All System Apps run on the SSD drive.
Drive bay 2 hold the contents of all the Media for my projects.
Drive bay 3 hold all the AutoSaves and the FCPX Libaries and daily Project backups and renders.
Drive bay 4 Is Special Effects drive.
Dual Samsung 27 inch HD displays
    M_Audio Monitors
    1-3TB Caldigit RAID
12-TBs of drives attached to every port on the back.
2_USB docking ports voyager s3 for archive drives.
Now that I have all these upgrades, a clean install, fresh updates to my softwares, my Mac Pro runs better that ever! My boot ups time is twice as fast as before and my OS is very snappy...Oh yeah FCPX, After Effects, Boris RED, Mail, Safari all open at the same time a running brilliantly!
Many of us are not ready to upgrade to the new Mac Pro, and as we all know the legecy Mac Pro was built like a tank with military grade proccessors and endless upgrade options. It wont ever be as fast as that new black can but I know I will be working faster with my trusty Mac!
    Good luck!

  • Does command - r work on all Mac Pro computers

I have an original Mac Pro (2006 Model) dual booting Lion and Leopard.  I want to restore Lion to a new drive and command-r is not bringing the computer into restore mode.  Is this a feature inherent to the mac pro or is it a software feature beyong that of Leopard.  I have never had to use the restore feature before.  I do not have a DVD copy of the Lion software as it was already in the computer when I purchaesd it 2 weeks ago which is why I need to use the restore command.

Command-R at Startup is a feature that MAY have been added with a "regular" install of 10.7 or later. Recovery_HD is supposed to be installed on the main Hard Drive, but there are ways it can be not installed. There are also a multitude of ways it can be damaged. This is NOT a good way to Install in a Mac that has a functioning system already installed.
If you can run 10.6.6 or later, log in to the App Store with YOUR Apple_ID. Purchase a copy of Lion if you have not already bought it for use on all your Macs, and proceed to download it in the background. It will place a TEMPORARY Application called Install Mac OS X (or similar) in your Applications folder.
When the download is complete, the Install Application will launch and ask where to install. This is your one and ONLY opportunity to STOP the Installation and make a copy of Install Mac OS X onto another device. Reliable Instructions for doing this are available online from respected online sources such as MacWorld. Lion "just fits" on a 4.7GB DVD-R, and a USB drive OVER 4GB is required to go that route. Installing off the "homemade" DVD is rather slow.
Once you choose a drive and the Installer goes forward, it will consume most of the Installer in the process of Installing, and delete the remains when complete.
To ( Repair Disk ) if the Hard Drive if it seems to be mostly intact:
Hold down the Shift key at Startup. This does one pass of Disk Utility ( Repair Disk ), which takes about five minutes, then comes up in Safe Mode. Your user_name and password is required at this point, even if you normally auto-login. A minimal set of extensions are loaded, so the display will not be accelerated and a few other things may be slow or may generate an error.
In Safe Mode, you can run tests, remove and install things, and generally fix things up so they are more to your liking.

  • How do I use the App store with macbook pro and mac pro

I currently use the app store with the mac book, but want to buy (share?) apps and music with the mac pro.
I can't find anything that specifically outlines how this works.
I use SplashID with the macbook and an iPhone, and want to use it (and sync it) on the mac pro as well.
If you buy apps for a macbook, can you use them on a second machine, or do you need to buy it a second time?

Your license from the MAS allows you to download and install the apps on as many Macs as you own or have under your control (institutional or employer supplied Macs.) The Mac should to be running Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard or Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion. Open the MAS app on the Mac Pro and sign into your account to have access to download all of your previous purchases in the Purchased pane.
Simple apps can also be dragged & dropped over a network connection from the MacBook to the Mac Pro.

  • Mac Pro 2.0 outperforming Mac Pro 2.66, WHY?

Ok Guys, I am stumped here and hopefully someone can shed some light.
    I have 2 Mac Pros: System 1 - 2 x 2.66 with 9GB of memory and System 2 - a recently acquired 2 x 2.0 with 5 GB of memory.
System 1 has banks filled as follows:
    Riser A
    Bank 1: 2gb
    Bank 2: 2Gb
    Bank 3: 512
    Bank 4: 512
    Riser B
    Bank 1: 2gb
    Bank 2: 2Gb
    Bank 3: empty
    Bank 4: empty
In System 2, I installed snow leopard after reformatting a 500 GB WD (7200rpm)caviar drive w/16 MB cache. There is also a 2nd WD drive (1 TB, 7200 Rpm)
Having plans to upgrade the 2.O Mac pro, I decided to compare it against my "faster" Mac pro 2.66. I took a video file that is 1hr 23 mins. It took 56 mins to render in IDVD coming from ImovieHD. Knowing that the 2.66 is significantly faster than the 2.0, I was thinking it would take maybe 44 mins to complete on the Mac Pro 2.66... to my surprise it took 1 hr 49 mins.
Thinking that the benefits were due to snow leopard. I backed up the system, reformatted the drive and installed Snow leopard and all my apps on the Mac Pro 2.66. I did the same test, the performance was even worst - it took 2 hrs 3 mins. After dropping the F-bomb a couple times I started looking at other things.
The Mac Pro 2.6 has 2 x 1 TB 7200 drives the OS drive has a 32 GB cache the other drive a 16 Mb cache.
The memory in the 2.0 is configured as follows:
    Riser A
    Bank 1: 1gb
    Bank 2: 1Gb
    Bank 3: 512
    Bank 4: 512
    Riser B
    Bank 1: 512
    Bank 2: 512
    Bank 3: 512
    Bank 4: 512
The video files on both systems are located on the non-OS file but I create the disk image from IDVD to the desktop on the OS Volume. The workflow is identical on both systems.
Both video cards are the stock Nvidia 7300. All drives are 7200 rpm. Why is my Mac Pro 2.0 outperforming the MacPro 2.66 with almost twice as much memory? I even filled the two empty slots on the MAC pro 2.66 thinking that is why it was taking a hit, it did not help.
    Any good suggestions welcome.

    Some tidbits:
RAM should be in quad and paired across Risers.
4 x 2GB (or 4 x 4GB) is your best as far as memory bandwidth
6 DIMMs is not ideal (8 DIMMs properly paired is okay but higher latencies)
Higher density RAM also shows improvements.
HARD DRIVES are an easy investment and can be used in whatever system you need now or later.
7.2k drives are fine, yours are on the old side.
    Especially that 500GB model.
SATA III, latest models, show 20% improvement, 64MB cache
    4 WD Caviar Black 640GB @ $70 eachm or 1TB to 2TB ($85-170)
boot from one, and stripe the other two or three.
You probably aren't ready to throw SSDs in, nor do you want $200-275 for 10K WD VelociRaptors (300-600GB) which are fast and make nice drives for system, scratch, and of course in arrays.

Time to replace those 7300s, if they aren't ready to bulge and blow a capacitor already. Shame that there really are few choices, 5770 or... 5770.
OS drive should be lean, fast, and just OS and apps
    data or media drive
    editing drives
higher capacity drives w/ 64MB cache are a plus, just being 3rd generation of Caviar Black line improvements rather than 4 yr old 500GB 16MB cache model
+Tried to break-down and decipher your setup and results for my own use:+
    System 2
    Installed snow leopard
500 GB WD (7200rpm)caviar drive w/16 MB cache.
    2nd WD drive (1 TB, 7200 Rpm)

I work with a 2006 2.0 and a 2009 4-core 2.66GHz and the difference between the two is noticeable enough to consider upgrading my 1,1 to 5355s, 4 x 2GB (or more), and 5770, JUST so it can 'compete' on equal footing with $2k Mac Pro Special:

  • Advice for updating my older Mac Pro

I have an older Mac Pro running Leopard and I’m starting to have issues with my system running effectively, so I’m making the leap to Snow Leopard and possibly Lion. I’m looking for advice on the best methodology to make the change, suggestions on the best set up, and pitfalls to avoid.
    Current Set Up
    Processor: 2 x 2.66 Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 6 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Drive 1: 750 GB internal, with OS 10.5.8. (230 gb used)
Drive 2: 750 GB internal, non bootable backup for Drive 1(225 gb used)
Drive 3: 1TB internal, Aperture Library (906 gb used)
Drive 4: 1TB internal, Aperture Vault (879 gb used)
Drives 5: 1TB external, backup for safe deposit box (912 gbused)
Drives 6,7,8: 250GB external, varying and redundant backup.
The programs I use more often are MS Office, Photoshop CS3 (not quite ready to upgrade, largely because of the pdf presentation removal in subsequent releases), Aperture 2.0, and now iMovie HD 6 (which has an undiagnosed problem and will not function properly).
    My current thinking is:
    - Ensure back up of Drive 1 on external drives.
    - Erase Drive 2
    - Install Snow Leopard onto “fresh” Drive 2 as start updrive
    - Use migration assistant to transfer user settings to Drive2
    - Transfer programs to Drive 2. Can I use MigrationAssistant to transfer CS3, Aperture, and other programs effectively, or should they be reinstalled from disk? What about plugins?
    - Leave Drive 1 as is to ensure MSOffice (ver X), CS3 and Aperture functionality. Will these programs run on Snow Leopard? I've seen posts about possible issues with Lion. . .
    - Eventually reconfigure backup drives to adequately and effectively utilize available space (my Aperture Library is getting unwieldy and needs reference masters, etc).
As I’m very inexperienced at this, I would appreciate any advice and suggestions.
    Thanks!

  • Mac Pro FireWire does not switch off even when Mac Pro is switched off

    Hi,
got my new Mac Pro with 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon last week!
Found out today, that the firewire connection both on the frontside as well on the backside
keeps beeing powered even if the Mac Pro is switched off!
Is this a new features as my old Mac Pro (2x2.0 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon) did not have this feature?
If yes, why is this so? For what is it good for?
Thanks for your comments? If you have the same new Mac Pro maybe you can check out and let me know if this feature is also on your Mac Pro seen.

    Hi,
called to the apple hotline and got informed that the so called "residual current" is normal at the MAC Pro. Sometimes the USB Ports sometimes the FireWire Ports keep been powered continously even the machine is switched off.
Apple told me further that I can use a connection plug board with a central switch to solve my issue.
I will close now the subject! Thanks veryone for all your help here!

  • Share Contacts for multiple Users on one Mac?

Is it possible to share Address Book between users on a mac? I use Mobileme, and my wife and I have combined all our contacts into one address book. Now we have a new iMac and want to set up separate user accounts, but unless she gets everything (mail, bookmarks, contacts) I don't see how she can continue to access our joint address book. She does not, by the way, have her own Mobileme account.
Any suggestions? This might be covered elsewhere, if so I'm sorry to rehash the topic.

I assume you've already got the email account sorted out. If you are using the same POP account you will want to tell Mail not to delete the messages from the server when you pick them up. IMAP is not problem.
I use Xmarks to sync my Bookmarks between Safari, FireFox for Mac and Windows, and IE 8 on Windows: http://www.xmarks.com/ - You need to install it to each browser.
There are several sync solutions for the Address Book, including using Google Calendar.
Since you've already set up a MobileMe account you can upgrade to the family plan for $50 and add her, your mom, kids etc. You sync all of the programs you want and she also gets iDisk that she can share files from and the rest of the features.

  • Trying to share a printer attached to a PPC Mac Mini

    Hi all.
I'm reinsterting an old Mac Mini running OS X 10.5.8 as a headless print server. I can interact with it via other computers to share the screen, so my network protocol with the computer is sound. My problem is, I can't seem to print to any printer attached to this computer--this is obviously a problem, as that's the whole reason I've revived this device.
Sharing setup for all computers is complete and the client computers don't seem to have any trouble seeing the printer. But when I print to it, the job is sent VERY quickly (suspiciously so) from my clients (a Mac Mini Intel in the living room and a MacBook), and the PPC mini shows no indication a print job was ever delivered.
Any brilliant ideas? I'm sure it's something really basic I'm not remembering or thinking about, and I'm sure someone has already asked this question; feel free to direct me to that solution, as my searching efforts didn't produce anything that I felt was helpful--but I've been wrong before.
    Thanks!

OK then, please post a brand new question in the OS X 10.5.8 "Leopard" forum:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.5_leopard
I no longer have a Leopard system to test and I used my one brilliant idea for today.
A new question should solicit more interest. Hopefully one of the old guard can think of something. Reference this thread so they can read what you did so far: Trying to share a printer attached to a PPC Mac Mini
Edit: Before you go, can you print to this printer while directly attached to the other computers too? Make sure it's not a simple driver problem. Good luck!

I have a MAC Pro from 2011 currently running MAC OS 10.9.5.  This weekend I cloned the MAC HD drive to a new SSD drive for improved performance.  The clone was completed successfully with no errors.  After the clone completed I successfully restarted my system using the SSD as the boot device.  I then successfully tested all of my products, including Photoshop CS6 and all of its plug-ins.  I successfully tested the key features that I frequently use.  Today while attempting to launch Photoshop CS6 a message is being displayed indicating that a scratch disk cannot be found.  All drives are available on the system via the Finder and Disk Utility.  I can access all drives including the old MAC HD which is no longer the boot device.  I've even attempted to launch Photoshop from the old device yet the same error persist.  Is there a way to review/edit/change Photoshop preferences if Photoshop doesn't launch?  I've even restarted my system several times to see if that would resolve the issues.  Does anyone have any recommendations for this issue?  Have you previously address this issue?
    Thank you Gregg Williams
