Share to Media Browser or Share to IDVD

I did two short projects one sharing to Media Brower and burning to IDVD using IMovie9 (As per the previous method in IMovie8)
The same project using the "new" share to IDVD and then burning in IDVD.
The share to Media Browser resulting DVD was up to par with the previous quality of IMovie8 which I found very acceptable given the limitations of the DVD format.
The "new" share to IDVD resulted in a DVD with lots of interlacing wavy lines.
Why is this?? Am I missing anything or steps with the Share to IDVD method?
I had no manipulation, chapter markers or anything, Just a simple project captured on tape using Canon HV-20, imported to IMovie9 using the Large 960x540 size.
I use a Panny upconverting DVD player to play the discs unto an HD TV via HDMI.
What good is the "new" Share to IDVD?????
The same project exported using QT Pro using H264 in 1280x720 results in superb results, when viewed on the Cinema display thru the computer, and very good results if I use the resulting Mov. file and burn it using IDVD or Toast.
I am really confused, any help will be appreciated
Thanks
Apple Lou.

Hmmm...
The Large is enabled if I Share to iTunes, but if I try Media Browser, Large is grayed out. This is with many projects I choose (including a slideshow I just made), but some DO offer Large with Media Browser. Do you know the secret formula here?
I tried direct to iDVD (captured at 960x540) but the result was lousy. So I thought I'd give Media Browser a try based on other posts...

Share your movie to the Media Browser. Then, in iDVD, drag your movie in from the Media Browser at the bottom right.
THe Share to iDVD option is only activated if your source material is DV or AVCHD.

Locate and move the com.apple.iMovie.plist and com.apple.iMovieApp.plist.lockfile files to the Desktop, launch iMovie and try again. If that corrects the problem you can delete them from the Desktop.
They will be in your Home/User/Library/Preference folder.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • How to select correct size for publish media browser

I have successfully imported and edited movie from my Sony cam. Now when I share it via idvd, the size of the video is large. It doesn't look the same as imovie preview.
How to select the right size to view video threw idvd?

The size that plays on the screen. I'm doing share->media browser-> medium(640x360). with idvd, import media browser, select theme and burn dvd. The problem is when I playback the video it's shows as widescreen (large) as oppose to the normal viewing threw imovie preview.

  • Slow (10 hours for 1 hour movie) sharing to Media Browser

I'm sharing my project to the Media Browser to use in iDVD. For a 1 hour movie it is taking 10 hours. Is that normal? Help please. iMac G5. OS 10.4.newest

    Hi
well G5 and X.4.11 - not so fast but 10h sounds much
1 hour to DVD on 600MHz G3 was about 24-36 hours once up on a time.
    • free space on internal boot hard disk ? How much ?
    • other programs running in parallell ?
    • RAM amount ?
    • QuickTime version ?

  • Sending to Media Browser: 514 minutes!

So I imported a wedding video using Canopus' ADVC-110. Now the project i created, inclusing titles and transitions, totals 1:37:03.
Following the How-To I sent it to the Media Browser, selected Large, so iDVD 7 can see it. The bummer is, it's presently indication approx. 8 hours to render This on a 2.0 GHz DP G5, 3GB ram, and a 2nd Maxtor hard drive.
While I like iMovie 08 the beachballing after adding transitions/titles and this supposed long render times really dampens the whole experience.
Any idea what may be causing such long render times?

Believe the "Large" option is a bit of "overkill" here if you plan to send the file to iDVD for the burning of a normal SD DVD. You waste time encoding to an HD resolution which iDVD will then have to re-scale when it re-encodes for DVD burning. While it might be interesting to compare such a final DVD with one "prepared" at the "medium" resolution to see if there is really any discernible visual difference, I'm not sure it would suit your purpose here if speed in preparation is paramount.

  • Under SHARE, IDVD is grey, what step am I missing? Only MEDIA BROWSER and ITUNES is active?

I'm unable to SHARE my IMOVE since IDVD is grey and not active, only MEDIA BROWSER and ITUNES. I'm using ITUNES '11.

    Hi
    A. I don't know
    B. I think that THERE ARE A MUCH better choice to do - ! ! !
As Share to Media Browser is OK
(I NEVER use Share to iDVD from within any iMovie versions as the result will be bad to even worse)
Use this and Share as LARGE (Not HD - also degrading result)
Now Close iMovie and Open iDVD and Import movie from Media Browser - This will result in as Good result possibly when movie comes from iMovie'08 or 09 or 11.
If You want even better result then use
    • iMovie up to HD6 - or -
    • FinalCut any version
So that the material exported over to iDVD is fully interlaced - as DVDs are so and as SD-Video quality is so as Standard. (There are no HD-DVD quality (but academic - very rare and needs special players))

  • What is best "size" for Share- Media Browser then iDVD?

What is the best "size" to "Share to Media Browser"? What is the closest equivalent to the format that iDVD burns movies at?
I don't want to waste time using Large if it converts it to something like Medium uses. There is nothing on the list about DVDs. Just iPods, .Mac, YouTube, Apple TV, computer ...
Note: The current video camera I have is a standard definitive Sony TR730 digital video camera. Most of the time our relatives borrow our video camera to take stuff. None of them have an HD video camera.

I also know that iMovie '06 is a dead product.
Of the dozen or so people that I know making movies with iLife 08, all use iMovie 06 for most of their movie making.
Please bear in mind I am NOT an "iMovie 08 hater" (I use both iMovie 08 and iMovie 06). iMovie 08 is a wonderful program assuming that you're using it for what it was designed to do, assemble simple videos to share on the Internet.
I use iMovie 06 (with iDVD 08) if I think I will ever put a movie on a DVD.
Remember that Apple includes iMovie 06 as a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!).
Also when you install iLife 08, iMovie 06 is not removed from the computer. Previous editions of iMovie were always un-installed when upgrading in the past. Apple leaves iMovie 06 on your system, because they want you to have it.
Want a DVD, use iMovie 06.
    Want YouTube, use iMovie 08.
    Just my 3 cents (inflation).

  • How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts?

How do I export my iMovie '11 video and burn it to a DVD? I've tried 'Share' - 'Media Browser', 'iDVD', and 'Export Movie' but always get an error message indicating that my movie is too long to publish. Thoughts? Additionally, what does 'File' 'Finalize Project' do?

Instead of Share to Media Browser, what happens if you try Share Menu > Export Movie... (choose Large size) and save it to the Desktop?
If that fails try Share Menu > Export using QuickTime...
Then pick Movie to QuickTime Movie, then click on Options... which is just to the right of Export
Under the Video section click on Settings...
Then in the pulldown menu at the top, titled Compression Type: Choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Then click OK. And click OK again, and save it to the desktop. Once the .mov file is created, you can import that into iDVD and most likely it will work in Wondershare Creator if you prefer to use that instead.

  • Imovie crashing when I try to share to media browser or idvd. Help?

Every time I try to share my iMovie 9 project to the media browser or iDVD or export using Quicktime, the movie seems to load whether it takes 45 minutes or 14 minutes when at the end of the time it shuts down and doesn't complete the job on my 27" iMac.

What do you mean by "trashing iMovie pref files"?  What are pref files?
    • Delete iMovie pref. file
    iMovie pref. file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
AFTER - Panic halts - or Force HALT - when Mac hangs and needs to be Stopped and re-Started
    • When having to do this - it also introduces small errors on hard disk that can add up to major problems.
That Why one has to run
    • Repair Permissions - Disk Util too
    • Repair Hard disk - Disk Util tool (but to do this You must start from DVD or external hard disk - can't do brain surgery on one self)

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iMovie. There's a iMovie Support Community where everybody uses iMovie. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.   https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/imovie

    Hi
    I do
    • In iMovie - select a project
    • Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD or other res.)
    • Close iMovie
    • Open iDVD and select to start a New iDVD Project
    • Import movie - from Media button - down to the right - and here from Movies

  • Error -50 when trying to share with media browser?

I'm attempting to burn a dvd in idvd for the first time. When I click media browser under share in imovie 08, I'm fist told that there's missing media. A source clip is not available. Although I hear it (audio) in both the project and in the source material in the event library. I clicked continue and things started to move along then this warning came up UNABLE TO PREPARE PROJECT FOR PUBLISHING ERROR CODE-50.
    Please help.

    I'm using native.
I did cancel all background rendering and exporting before I deleted the renders. I actually quit final cut before I did that, then restarted.
I found that the crash was probably the result of a motion plug-in that I was using, but the speed of exporting is still way below what it was last week. I would still like to utilize that motion plug-in :/

  • When I share my, 1 hour i movie project with media browser, I lose audio after 45 minutes

What do I share my i movie project with that will ensure the all the audio is encoded?  I have shared the 1 hour project with media browser and iDvd but audio stops at 45 minutes.  The rest of the project plays but without audio.  I have imovie 09

clip-2008-11-21 18; 37; 22 1 is not conventional nomenclature for imported clips, it seems as though this clip may have been imported twice and one of the copies deleted after it has been used in the project. Have you looked in the events folder for such a clip.
