This afternoon I will be doing a video for a music scholar at the local university for him to use as an audition piece.  He needs it uploaded to YouTube on the double, so I thought I might take my MBP along, and do it right then and there.
I have a YouTube account which I have never used from FCPX (I prefer Vimeo, and use that regularly), and don't yet know whether he has his own account, or not.  I suspect he does.  Since I have never signed into my account from within FCPX, I suppose I could enter his, with his permission, and do the upload in his name.  If I do that, I assume I can then wipe that out and enter my own at some point?
Or, I probably can upload as me, and let him provide that link to the interested parties?
Experience at doing more than one identity from FCMPX, or recommendations for me, anyone?
Ernie

Yes of course i can just export to my desktop, and then upload to YouTube directly... but part of the reason i got excited about iMovie '08 was the prospect of being able to just click a few buttons, and upload directly through the program.
Have you considered publishing to YouTube using the "Mobile" setting? Basically, the "Medium" settings uses a 1.7 Mbps data rate target. If the average data rate was exactly 1.7 Mbps then the maximum length you can expect is on the order of 7.8 minutes. (Realistically, however, it is probably a bit more than 8 minutes for the average movie.) On the other hand, the "Mobile" target data rate is only 1.0 Mbps which should guarantee the full 10 minutes every time. Believe you are limited to a combined data rate of about 1333 Kbps to ensure a full 10-minute clip would be acceptable.
Overall, a good analysis of the situation. My hat is off to you. Thanks for posting this little tidbit of information.

  • What exactly are the "Share to YouTube" Settings?

    Hi-
I'm just curious as to what the settings are in FCS 3 (or QT X) for Sharing to YouTube. What I mean by this is, what are the equivalent Compressor or QuickTime Export settings that this feature uses?
In QT 7, I would normally export as an H.264 wrapped MPEG-4 file using a 2500 data rate so that my videos would appear on YouTube as HD, and in relatively great quality without a large overall file size.
Other suggestions always had me converting to a QT mov file (H.264) with 2500 data rate.
I want to know what is the best and easiest way to get to YouTube so that I can inform others of the proper steps to take. The Share to YouTube function would be easiest now, but am still curious about the settings that it uses.
In a related note, the Share to YouTube feature is not letting me use the 3-D tags (yt3d:enable=true yt3d:aspect=16:9) because it contains tags that are not letters or numbers. Is there a way around this?

Great, thanks David. So whenever I see an export template setting out of something, it's pretty much the same setting as in Compressor? Like when I do an "Export to Web" from QT 7 and choose the iPhone preset, that is the setting that they have in Compressor?
Also, any idea about the "TAG" problem in FCP?

  • Share to YouTube - uploading issues

After messing around with this for the last 2 days... i've come to a few conclusions.. one is... there are some bugs that still need to be worked out with iMovie '08 and the Share to YouTube function.
I made my first iMovie '08 project the other day, and tried uploading it to YouTube. I went through the steps to authorize 3rd Party uploads to YouTube, and everything seemed fine. The upload would get to 100%, the i would get this message...
When i hit OK, nothing else would happen. There was no video on YouTube... nothing.
Someone suggested that i try a few different things, so i made a quick movie clip with Quicktime using my iSight. I dropped that into iMovie, threw a title on it, and tried to upload it to YouTube. It worked. The first files i was working with were originally MPG files from my Sony Cybershot, which i converted with VisualHub to MP4 because iMovie wouldn't recognize them otherwise. So my first thought is there's some issue with encoding, because my new clip was made in Quicktime as a MOV but using MP4 encoding.
Then i though... maybe the file size is too big, but i hadn't received any warning message about it, and i figured that iMovie was sizing it to fit for YouTube. There's the problem... The only warning message iMovie itself gives you before uploading, is if your movie is more than 10mins.
YouTube has 2 restrictions... 1) That your upload is under 10 mins, and... 2) That you movie is under 100mb's.
So... since my movie was under 10 mins it should be fine, but when i exported it to my desktop, and rollover on the "i" it says that my movie 119.5mb's.
This is the problem... iMovie doesn't warn you that your movie might be rejected for being larger than 100mb's, it should.
I made my movie a little longer... so it was over 10 min's to test this, and there's a warning about the length, but not the size.
There are no real options in iMovie for compression or bitrate or anything like this. It would be nice if this share to YouTube window had a slider that you could adjust the bitrate, so that your movie can be reduced slightly to fit just under 10 mins, and under 100mb's, or an automated compression to keep these requirements for YouTube.

  • Why wont the share to youtube videos work on other ipad or iphones

many of my projects that i share to youtube are not playable on other ipads or iphones, i thought they used to play fine, but recently none of my movies work on youtube...

The share feature of the iPad or the share link inside of FaceBook?
You can't use the iPads share feature from FB, only from content that is on your device.  From FaceBook, save the picture to the iPad.  Then with the picture open, you can share it with iMessage, Twitter, eMail, FaceBook and a couple of others.
If the FaceBook app isn't wotking correctly, first try to shut it down, then restart it.  If that doesn't work, try a force quit of the app.
Press and hold the sleep/wake button until you see the red slider.
Next, press and hold the home button until the screen returns to the app.
When you let go of the home button you'll be returned to the home screen.

What do you mean by delete? Did you cancel a process within FCP or from the YT site?

  • Is there benefit to Share to YouTube rather than upload full Quicktime clip

I would like the highest quality video for YouTube. Is it better just to upload the full normal Quicktime export to YouTube than to use the Share to YouTube in the latest version of Final Cut? It seems YouTube re-encodes everything again so what is the point of Share to YouTube if it will lose more quality and be re compressed?

The trick is to give youtube something they can't mangle too badly. I'm not a big fan of "sharing"-- the term itself sets my teeth on edge-- but that's another story. There are a lot of articles on doing good youtube encodes. You can search this forum. I made a couple of presets in compressor a while ago and just use those. Not at my machine right now so I can't give you specifics, but it's an h.264 file.

  • Keynote share to youtube issue

I have a recorded slideshow I want to share to youtube.  When you click the share button and go through steps to your youtube account you get to a point where a message states "copy below and paste into your application" -- Once you copy the code and go back to keynote.. there is nothing you can do to input code.. you are back in the loop of clicking on youtube account and it opens a NEW page with yet another code and same directions.
I am having to export recorded slideshow to Quicktime and then try to upload to youtube..
anyone have help on this. Am I missing something?
    thanks in advance

Gaggh, I'm trying to do the same thing and am stunned that I can't just export to iMovie and add sound there.

  • TS4162 "invalid Account Name or Password" when I try to share to YouTube from Final Cut Pro

    Hello,
I keep getting "invalid Account Name or Password” when I try to share to YouTube from Final Cut Pro. I am signing in to my YouTube account from Safari and my password is working. In Final Cut Pro, I go to: Final Cut Pro > Preferences > Destinations > Add Destination > Double click YouTube. I create new sharing destination and the issue still not gone. Kindly please find me a solution.
Thank you for your kind attention.

Make sure you're using your email associated with your YouTube account in FCPX and not your YouTube Username as that's no longer allowed by Google.

  • The share operation youtube has failed

Hi. I need the help, Im not work long with final cut Pro 10.0.8 b at haw prob lem with share to dvd DL. after share its stop on 49%, and sad
The share operation youtube has failed   Quick time erroe: 0
Is any one can help option how to share to DVD  or ?
    Thanks.

I had this problem and tried evry thing on the thread "Sharing to DVD all my projects stops att 66 % - without error messages." (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4966745) but the thing that fianlly fixed it for me was your suggestion about kewords - I removed the one keyword I had and the share to DVD finally completed.  Oddly though other projects with the same keyword (which FYI was P2P) all burnt to DVD fine... Anyway thanks canoel!

  • IMovie 10.0.06 won't share to Youtube

I'm using iMovie 10.0.06 and it won't share to Youtube.
It did do this once before on a test video but now I can't share my movie to Youtube.
    "Invalid account name or password"
As far as I'm aware this has not changed. I assume this is the username and password for Youtube channel (which is same as Google+ right?)
Does anyone know if I go the manual route of exporting to file and uploading to Youtube whether I will lose quality?
iMovie 11 exporting to Youtube used to compress the file horribly.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Baloo
Thanks for that suggestion. It worked brilliantly for me!
I'm using iMovie 10.0.6 on Yosemite 10.10.2. All functioning great until I unexpectedly found failure to share. All buttons clickable but no effect. Also noted failure to import with pop-up saying " Cannot ingest because no storage location found"
After seeing your post I downloaded and ran OnyX, and iMovie now runs perfectly. Many Thanks!
I guess it would be possible, with sufficient knowledge of whats under the bonnet, to fix this problem without using third party software. But for most of us a user-friendly utility like Onyx does a great job. Do you use it only when problems arise, or do you regularly scan and clean etc?

  • Can't share to youtube or export to mac\pc .mp4 only to .mov

i'm trying the FCPX Trail Version
sadly i can't upload movies to any of the share options (youtube,vimeo....)
and i can't export the video to any form but  .mov
    the error message is:
    "   The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)    "
the clip's i'm editing are from "Gopro-hero2" camera
    thanks

    Lara,
I'm not a hardware engineer ... this is an FCP forum!
I wish I could be more help but this isn't my line of expertise.
FWIW: You seem to have a problem with your disc burner or disc burning software ... maybe you are not using good quality 'media' (discs) . I would suggest you try burning with another program, see if that helps, or try burning to a different/better disc brand.
Try looking for support also on the Toast forums ... search google for these.
    Best of luck

  • Share to youtube/export to quicktime dialog box questions

In Share to YouTube, or export to quicktime, you get a dialog box that says:
    Playback Uses: Fixed Timing
    Slide Duration: 5 seconds
    Build Duration: 2 second
The keynote presentation is built with all the correct timings that I don't want to change, so I guess I don't understand this questions. I would want the presentation to follow the timings build into the elements and page transitions.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    bob

  • Share to Youtube Vertical Green Bar

Whenever I export a video in the most recent FCP, using File>Share>Youtube
the compressed video file has a green bar on the right side of the frame.
I have exported 4x3 and 16x9 and both have the green line.
You can see what I mean here: http://vimeo.com/8475804
(its particularly bad when you screen it in full screen)
If I use Quicktime conversion or compressor, it does not happen, but I would like to be able to use the Share functionality.
    Please help!
I shoot in HD but downconvert on the fly from my Sony FX1 so the majority of my footage is 720 by 480.

I am having a similar issue. I have run across the green line a couple of times while exporting. Most recently I exported an H.264 file from Compressor and it looked fine. After it went through Facebook's compression, the green line came. It looks like it is only one pixel wide and is on the far right side. Anyone have any idea why?

  • Share to YouTube: yellow triangle "1 warning" - Russ H, please help again

This is my third call for help regarding FCPX 10.0.9 with OSX 10.9. Russ H has kindly solved my previous problems. I am new to FCP so have the novice's usual questions and problems.
First I could not "share" at all. Russ suggested that I deactivate auto rendering, start a new project, and copy the old one into the new timeline. It worked nicely while "sharing" into a DVD. Great.
However. when I tried for more and wished to "share" the 40' project to YouTube, first I got - as nearly everybody else, judging by this discussion :-) -  the famous "QuickTime error -50". I promptly responded by preventing App Nap, and ... I got (during the next "share") a yellow triange with "1 warning" on the "share" screen. As the result of all my experiences, I tried everything together, including the first workaround with a new project. No result. Now, I keep the App Nap deactivated all the time.
Is there any hope, at least a method to find out what and where is the clip/frame with "1 warning" ? Or is it something else ?
P.s.1.  I am new to FCPX but have incidents of a long but not continous history of editing on "IBM compatibles" with accelerators like Canopus Raptor, starting with Adobe Premiere 5.5 and 6. Those unforgettable edits and projects were punctuated by a crash (or more) a day and equally continous frustrations. About 6-7 years ago, after a pause, I had a few peaceful and satisfactory years with Adobe Premiere Elements 9 on a fast Sony VAIO laptop. Now I have an iMac (27', 2.93 GHz, i7, 12 Gb), FCPX and ...the same frustrations as 20+ years ago. My life is interesting again !
P.s.2. Yesterday, I had the 10.9.1 update installed to my OSX. No change.
    Regards-
    Kris

    Russ,
I do have a few expanded frozen frames (I read about them as a potential problem) and more than just minimal edition of audio, including several "narration/voice overs" done outdoors with a camcorder and then imported. All material has been colour balanced and several clips have been stabilised. The rest was just cut and paste.
I hope it might help. Many thanks -
    Kris
P.s. The yellow triangle shows on the YouTube share window only. Not on the DVD one.

  • "Share" to YouTube problem

    Hello,
My problem is that my video looks really nice on my computer yet when I upload it, or "Share" it to YouTube it looks awful! Terrible! Choppy, blocky, pixelated... I can't make out the faces of the people in the videos. It's just horrible.
I've tried to upload with the different sizes, straight out of iMovie '08.
I've tried exporting it using QuickTime with the different options suggested by YouTube users. Such as H.264, 24 FPS, 1500kb/s, Multi-pass, 320x240 and using the "sharpen" tool.
I've even attempted to use the program called "MPEG Streamclip" with the above mentioned options.
Nothing is working. All of my videos are under 10 minutes, and less than 1 gig. Depending on how I export them or share them, they are generally 500 meg, and in some cases MUCH less. The thing is that they look great on my own computer before I share them, and then after I "share" they look "ok" at worst. But when I play them in YouTube after they're uploaded they look gawdawful; so bad I delete them because they just aren't presentable. The sound is great, but the picture is horrid.
I'm shooting my home movies with a Sony HandyCam HDR-SR5 in Standard Definition Mode. It's "dv" video but I don't do anything special to it. I just edit with iMovie and then try to upload, and that's it. So far it's been less than productive.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. I'm at my wits end.
    Thank you
    YahYah24

You can view your HD videos in HD up to 1280x720 now. Here's a fun example:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlfKdbWwruY&fmt=22
The key is that that video was uploaded as a 1280x720 video which, as far as I know, you can't do in iMovie '08 yet as it tops off at 640x360. Another key is the ending on the link, "&fmt=22" which tells YouTube to play it as a 1280x720 video. If it's not a 1280x720 video it will play in normal mode with that ending.
However, you can even see your iMovie exported 640x360 videos in high quality mode if the "View in High Quality" option is showing under the video on the right in YouTube or you add "&fmt=18" (without the quotes) after the link.
Not a great example as I used a cartoon mode for the video but you should easily see the difference. This is an iMovie '08 YouTube share:
    Normal low rez: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHwwWotEfXY
    High rez version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHwwWotEfXY&fmt=18
Only difference in the &fmt=18 on the end. If you want higher quality you're going to have to share using QuickTime and 1280x720.
    Hope this helps.
