Shared Address Book and Contacts on iPhone from Lion Server

Hi,
I'm considering converting my current Lion Mac Mini into a Lion Server as I like to look of some of the features it has. However I have a question about the shared Calendar and Address Book which Lion Server can provide.
My wife and I both have iPhones, I have read up some articles on the device management provided through Lion Server, but I was wondering how invasive this is? I'd like to enroll both iPhones with my Lion Server and allow access to a shared calendar and address book from it, but without affecting any of the existing calendars or address books currently on the phone (my wife syncs her contacts and calenders with Gmail, I use iCloud etc...). Is it possible to push out a config to both phones which adds the new calendar and address book without wiping each phone?
Rich

Yes, this happened to me too and as a matter of fact I noticed it when I was already at the Apple Store at the Genius Bar for another iPhone issue. However, it seemed to fix itself when we did a restore to the iPhone. I would try another sync first. If they are still messed up, then I would do a "Replace Contents - Contacts" in the iTunes Info tab once your iPhone is connected.

  • TB v. 24.0: Changed ISP's; ~ new email in Server Settings & Outgoing Server & all Address Books and Contacts; TB still showing old email ID for Fwd & Rply

    TB v. 24.0, Win 7 Pro. Changed ISP's. I use Outlook 2007; wife uses TB, same box. Changed TB username & e-mail address in Server Settings & Outgoing Server & set as Default. Changed e-mail address in all address books and Contact lists. Now TB still showing old e-mail address in <From> when Reply or Forward. This is confusing recipients, who have been sending their replies off to a now-nonexistent account. Checked Windows Contacts - empty. Checked my Outlook 2007 - all Contacts changed appropriately. How do I kill that old e-mail address in TB when it isn't even listed any more - except when we try to Reply or Forward?

    When you got the new email address and changed ISP's, you needed to create a new mail account for that new existing email address.
    When a mail account is created there are many preferences setup to be able to manage and run that mail account. Trying to track down and modify all of those within the either the config editor or prefs.js is not only time consuming, but you could easily cause further problems if any error is made.
    So I suggest you fix the original account by reentering all the old data. Then create a new mail account for the new exisitng mail address.
    * File > New> Existing mail account.
    or
    * 3bar menu icon > New Message > Existing Mail account.
    when you have both mail accounts in your left folder pane, you can choose to move any wanted emails from the older mail account into suitable folders in Local Folders. This will save a copy of emails.
    Then you can delete the old account, leaving saved emails in Local Folders and only one new mail account.
    To remove mail account:
    * Tools > Account sEttings
    * select old mail account
    * click on 'Account Actions'
    * select 'Remove Account'
    * click on OK

  • HT2486 is address book and contact the same program

    Yes.
    Address Book came with OS X 10.7 Lion and earlier versions of OS X.
    Contacts comes with  OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
    Apple changed the application name.

  • Data loss between Address Book and Contacts

    I have some detail in my address book (detail within individual contact) on my desktop that does not seem to "push" to my iphone. I get phone number, address but not the rest of the detail I have added via address book. Is there a way to expand the detail that is "pushed" to mobileMe, iphone or both?

    Grrr, I'm not an addressbook specialist, but since no one answere yet I guess i'll give it a crack.
    Can you try to close address book, then drag these files from your ~/library/preferences/ folder and put them on your deskop?
    com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
    com.apple.AddressBook.plist
    Re-open Addressbook and see what happens.

  • Address Book and contacts.

    I'm having a problem with some of my cards in address book. I have saved the name ie jo smith in first name and not used the last name. With some cards address book adds the surname into the last name field so that the contact appears as jo smith smith. I've done an edit and saved several times but somehow it keeps reverting. Weird? Any help?

  • Sharing Address Book (and groups) With Others

    I know there is a way to share address book with others through mac.com, but I'm wondering if there is a way to do it without mac.com ...

    Yes, there are quite a few other options. I developed a solution for this called Address Book and Calendar Server (http://www.addressbookserver.com). There seems to be also an option to use Google etc.
    PS: I am the developer of AddressBookServer.com and naturally biased towards it.

  • Moving contacts into icloud, address book and ultimately onto iphone 5 is impossible. Why so hard?

    NEED TO TRANSFER/SYNC CONTACTS FROM 500+ VCARDS ON MY COMPUTER ---> TO MY IPHONE5.
    Why not just make the phone an open device? Drag and drop. I've spent three days trying to figure out how to easily get my contacts from my dumbphone to the new iPhone 5. I bluetoothed off my dumb phone to my computer. Both my iMac and MacBook Pro have the vcards. And another thing, Address Book, contacts, gmail, iTunes, whatever, I can't import multiple vcards. They have to be done one at a time.
    No mass transfers of any kind? I have over 500 contacts to move. I've tried the following:
    -Importing to contacts onto iMac; address book won't read vcard
    -Importing to contacts on MacBook Pro w/Mountain Lion; reads vcards, only 1 at a time
    -Importing to iCloud; doesn't work
    -Importing to gmail contacts; only reads 1 at a time
    -E-mailing 500+ to self in an e-mail and trying to open/transfer/read all on MacBook Pro and iPhone5; won't do multiple files
    I know I can go pay Verizon to do it but I want to know WHY and HOW this works the way it does.
    Beyond frustrated. Hulk, smash. Please for the love of god help me, and not in an "ambigous remark: sync to iCloud'" kind of way.
    THANK YOU!

    Seriously folks?  I know it was long but I added all info to negate a need for endless back/forth clarifications.  No answers???
    FYI, i tried syncing contacts to google/gmail and it was a total clusterF as well.  No gmail contacts, synced iphone, gmail contacts populated w/ all info but w/lots of repeat entries.  Used seek and merge repeats in gmail and then resync but no such luck.  Lots of iterations and nothing but fails.  Seems everytime the phone and the gmail lists are "as desired" a new sync puts a ton of repeats back into gmail or onto phone.  Still perplexed and still needing help....
    pretty please....

  • How to import a contact into an existing address book? contact is exported from outlook.

    I have created 3 address books. I want to import new contacts into these address books selectively.
    I tried importing a contact that was exported from Outlook as a v card. It worked fine except that it created the new contact as yet another new address book!

    Importing contacts does create a new address book. Then just drag and drop the contacts into the book of your choice and delete the new book when it is empty.

  • Address Book and Contact Manager

    Hello everyone
    We recently installed two iMacs in a pure Windows environment with Active Directory, Exchange Server and all the MS stuff. We had no problems binding the Macs to AD and we have use the Microsoft Office 2008 Entourage for Exchange connectivity. The client has a really huge amount of contacts in the Exchange GAL (Global Address List), which he wants the personnel to manage them from the Macs.
    Entourage has not the 'Microsoft Outlook' way to manage the contacts.
    Is there any application that can 'talk' to Address Book or SQL Server for Contact Management?
    Thanks
    Kostas

    Open iTunes and choose Edit -> Preferences. Select the Sync tab and choose to reset sync history.
    Do not check the box under advanced regarding replace contacts.
    Make sure you have at least one contact in outlook & one one your phone.
    Right click the phone in the device pane, select "Reset Warnings"
    Sync, there should be a popup regarding your contacts, asking to merge or replace, select merge.

  • How to see all Address fields between Address Book and Contacts?

    Hello,
    I rely on my Apple Address Book on my iMac to manage a lot of information for work and personal purposes. Is there a way to configure the iPhone to display more of the fields that are available in the desktop Mac version of the Address Book? Specifically, the Related Names fields?
    Thank you

  • When will Apple restore my ability to sync "my"Address book and contacts to "my" Mac not the cloud ?

    I asked this question before but Apple deleted it. . . Hmm. . .
    freedom of speech?

    They may not. This facility was included with 10.8 and below only and I believe was called Sync Services, pls see here for the number of people irritated by this omission and for a possible workaround.
    Please post feedback here too.

  • GroupWise Shared Address book

    Good Morning!
    I have an issue where a user has created a shared address book and shared it out with the users at her site. After doing so, some of the users, who are on multiple post offices, are seeing old data. I have resolved that issue by identifying the proper Prime User DB, having the owner unshare the book, renaming the pux.db, and having the owner reshare the book with a test account of mine. The new db has the updated and new information, but any changes the owner makes are not being replicated (address changes or rights changes).
    Clients - User is running 7.0.3 build 976 (I think) and I am running 7.0.3 build 1068
    Servers - 7.00.03
    I have restarted the post offices, recreated the pux.db, have restarted the servers. Nothing seems to force the replication from the owner's post office (PO1) to my test account (PO2).
    Any suggestions on how I can resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Chris Williamson

  • Address Book and Bookmarks

    I recently got an iBook G4 and I would like to share my address book and bookmarks for Safari from my iMac G5, so I have that same info on both computers. Is there an easy way to do that? I have an airport wireless network in my house so I use the dsl connection with both. Thanks!

    You could Export all your addresses from the one computer and import them onto the other computer. Just Highlight all your cards and click Export ~ You can save it to your Desktop and then email it to yourself on your other computer. Then, when you get the email on your other computer, open the email, and click on the vCard you've sent yourself. It will import all the cards to your address book.

  • How to recover address book and all mailbox data

    How to recover address book and all mailbox data, from mounted drive that had OS10.4.11 now has bad blocks, and is not boot-able.
    Any help would be appreciated.... hermann

    The drive is mounted (appears as a drive on the desktop)? You can't just copy the files, or is it not really mounted?
    It would help to have more details on the status of this drive since I am obviously confused as to whether or not it is mounted and appears on the desktop. Is this an internal or external drive? If internal, how are you booting your computer now?
    There are data recovery tools such as [Data Rescue II|http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php] or [FileSalvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1]. Both have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. You will also need a second hard drive equal to or larger in size than your first drive as a destination drive for recovered files. If the critical files are located on the bad blocks then there isn't much hope other than to send the drive out to a professional data recovery service which could cost $1000.
    The easiest way to recover the files is to get them off a backup drive.
