Shared Album Art - iTunes 7

I have disabled iTunes from getting album art due to the issues it was having with Greatest Hits and replacing art that had already been collected (due to no album art before, now it wants to take over).
My question is with shared music. We have a PC in another location and share iTunes via the share preference. Prior to the upgrade, we were able to see the ablum art from the main PC or file location that was associated with the music file (i.e. the art I collected for each album). Now it shows Artwork not modifiable" on the shared music. Not a biggy as we can still listen to music, but an annoyance none the less.
All this time wishing for auto art and now I wish I did not select iTunes to get "missiing" when upgraded. More fool me...

  • Album Art iTunes 11

In the latest crappy version of itunes 11.0 how do you get it to show album art. Better yet Cover Flow.

If you are in Album view and click Song view, you can view all the information you wish.  It is an extra click but innovation seems to be that way these days.

  • Movie album art - iTunes 11.0.5 (5)

I just updated iTunes to 11.0.5(5) now when i try to add album art to my movies iTunes crashes. Anyone experiencing this problem or have any suggestions on a fix? Before I updated I have added album art dozens of times with no issue using same process.
    Thanks!

Following a posting from nyboy_x5 to a different problem, I opened my Norton Internet Security.
I went to Settings > Network> Smart Firewall > Program Rules: Configure > and then Scrolled to iTunes
and found the setting as "Auto".
I changed the setting to "Allow", then clicked "Apply" and now it works!

  • How do I disable detached Album Art window in iTunes 10?

    Hello,
In iTunes 9, whenever playing any music with album art, iTunes would not attempt to detach a separate window.
However, new in iTunes 10, every time I play a song that has album artwork, iTunes will automatically detach a small separate popup window that is supposed to show the album artwork for that song (I say "supposed', because the album artwork never shows up in this window; it's always just pitch black), as well as playback controls when you mouse over that detached window.
Also, whenever you try to close this album artwork popup window, song playback also stops! So one is forced to keep it open the entire time iTunes is playing music that happens to have album artwork.
I would like to remove this detached popup window and never have it show up, as it increases clutter with an extra window on my desktop, and most importantly, I did not instruct iTunes to open a separate window in the first place.
I searched iTunes preferences exhaustively and could not find an option to disable this album artwork popup window.
Is there a defaults write com.apple.iTunes command that can disable it? Or some other way to get iTunes to stop always automatically displaying this separate album artwork popup window? (And NO, I don't want to just minimize it).
    Thank you.

Do you mean iTunes 10 or 11?
I'm pretty sure this is controlled by the import settings for CDs.  Go to "preferences->general",
and click "Import settings" next to the CD line.  You can select MP3 or AAC there.

  • Can I force iTunes not to embed custom album art, but store it separately?

(I only use iTunes to manage my 16GB iPod nano 5th gen and update my mother's iPad.)
Now as far as I am aware, when iTunes downloads album art, it stores it separately from the audio files, and thus several tracks share the same image file for their artwork. This seems economical to me, considering the space limitations that most Apple devices have.
But if you set your custom album art, iTunes embeds it into the audio files themselves, so each has a copy of the artwork, and thus the total size of artwork increases about tenfold. Now this is okay when storing the audio files on personal computers, but is quite stupid for devices with limited storage capacities. It really depends on the size of the artwork and the bitrate your audio is encoded to, but I calculated I could put an extra 300MB of music onto my iPod if I could just somehow force iTunes to store my custom album art separately, not embed it into the audio files by default.
Does anybody have an answer/solution to this problem, or do I have to look beyond iTunes to do this?
    Thanks!
(Note that I do not wish to use the iTunes download artwork service, as it is quite unreliable and the artwork is of low quality.)

  • ITunes, Samba, Network.. wont allow manual album art updates argh!

    Hello,
I have all my music in mp3 format on my linux server, which runs glftpd + scripts that catalogue the mp3 upon upload into genres/year/artist to make for easier finding of songs. I then use samba to access the shares within the glftpd directory structure, e.g.; /glftpd/site/mp3/albums.. I have added this share into windows as a mapped drive (M:\). The problem is this, whilst I can add the folder/drive into iTunes, i cant manually update the album art. iTunes does find some are for the albums, but I have a different source which I want to use to update the art. I also noticed that its not just the art I cant edit, its the track info. This i expected becuase the tracks reside on a network share which glftpd has probably locked permissions on, however the album art i cant understand becuase the library resides on my windows pc.
    Any ideas ?

I answered on your other post....
+the album art i cant understand becuase the library resides on my windows pc.+
If you want to edit a track's artwork, it's like editing track info - the permissions are locked.
The iTunes downloaded art is in separate folders, not the ID3 tags in the actual mp3 files.
    on XP the path is
    C:\Documents and Settings\ username \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\Album Artwork

  • How can I reset all my song data - genre, year, album art etc. from CDDB?

Like most people I've built up my music collection over quite a few years.
In the old days, album info often couldn't be found online, and I had to input data manually.
Also, new fields have appeared in the CDDB since I imported some older tracks.
This means that a lot of my songs have data missing in fields, poor quality album art, or inconsistent genres etc.
Is there anyway to strip out this information and get iTunes to go back to the CDDB and download the info (for tracks already in the library) afresh?
The obvious way, selecting an album and choosing "get CD track names" doesn't seem to work if there is already data there, even if it's manually entered and incorrect.
Also, if you try and get new album art, iTunes won't replace art manually associated with the files (i.e. that I added myself from a low-res image 5 years ago).
This must be a fairly common issue - can anyone help to solve it?
Obviously the more global the solution the better - i.e. a way to do it to multiple albums, rather than one track at a time!
    Many thanks in advance
    T.

I have bad news for you...I tried doing the same thing a while back and couldn't find any easy way. Eventually, I had to strip the mp3 tags from the songs and (using a third party mp3 tag editor) had software that automatically looked them up on the net and put the info back in. Then, I had to get the album artwork in iTunes. Quit a pain! I did it one album at a time. Good luck!

  • How to resize album art pictures in Albums view mode?

How can i resize album art pictures in Albums view mode?
iTunes on my old PowerMac G5: there is a slider to resize album arts.
iTunes on my Win7 PC: where is the slider to resize album arts???

In the Grid view, *View > Grid View > Show Header* should expose the header. In the List view it's contolled by the size of the artwork column.

  • Will ID3 enable Album Art ?

I recently added some of my Iron Maiden songs to the library, and each carriers its genuine album artwork when i play the file on the windows media player. Would converting the files to ID3 tag enable the album art to show when it plays on my ipod? If not please advice on steps i should take in order to accomplish this. Thanks

Your songs already have an id3 tag.
The only issue is the difference in how iTunes and WMP carry the album art.
iTunes includes the art in the id3 tag, WMP puts it in the folder. Which means that if you go to the folder that these songs are sitting in, you'll find the art. Then just drag it into iTunes' 'art box.'

  • How to properly embed album art work into TV/Films itunes: home sharing lag

My setup is a simple apple home sharing network.
I have a mac mini running OS X 10.6.8 and itunes 11.0.4(4) it hosts a lot of music, DVD's that have been re-encoded and paid for content from itunes.
The mac mini is conntected to the network over a very good gigbit lan and has 4 apple TV3 (latest gen) hanging off the network, and multiple PC/Mac/ipod/ipad devices hanging off the network.
I connect to the itunes home sharing service with the apple TV service using the "remote" application on the ipad.
When I select Music/Albums TV Shows or Films from the menu of the itunes library the album art work loads (quickly) over the grey boxes as I scroll down. However this takes a few seconds for each "scroll" I do on the ipad (it has thousands of items in there).
The exception to the rule is any paid content, when I open Music/TV/Films menu on the ipad the paid content (especially for TV and Films) the artwork is already there, and doesn't have to load it.
How is the artwork for paid content contained differently than the artwork for content I've manually put into the itunes library.
If I look at the itunes library locally on the machine hosting the itunes data, the artwork is there straightaway, no loading, pull up the items info with "get info" and click on art work, the artwork is there, and I can see no different in the art work settings for paid content or for content I've manually updated/loaded an image for.
So why/how does the paid for content have artwork on the ipad the exact second I open it over the network, yet the non-paid for content take a few seconds per screen to load it.
Is there something different in how the art work is embeeded, or is it a caching setting ? whats the difference.

    Dang You Autocorrect.
You don't saw what size and resolution the embedded artwork is. This could be part of the issue. Artwork on movies you purchase from the iTunes Store is 667x1000 at 72 DPI so if yours is larger than this is could be causing the delay.

  • ITunes 11 - metadata and album art incorrect when sharing to iPad

I just upgraded to iTunes 11. I'm accessing my shared iTunes library from a Macbook Pro on my new iPad using an Apple wireless router.  Neither the album art on song metadata is matching the displayed artist/album/song. Apple products from the beginning of the chain to the end. All was fine until I upgraded to iTunes 11. I thought Apple delayed the release to "get it right"? Anyone else having the same issue?

Home sarin with iPad has been messed up since iOS 6 and was hoping iTunes 11 would solve it. Seemed Italy it had bu the next time I selected the shared library, it's still messed up and out of order.

  • Sharing my fix for blank album art in iphone

Just wanted to share this. I have had the problem many have had where artwork displays in itunes but shows up as blank in the iphone. The fix (v 3GS) was to in itunes, select all the songs of the affected album, right click to get info. When the dialog appears, check only the art box, cut and paste the artwork in the box. Itunes then rebuilds the songs with the art, and the next sync pushes the changes to the phone.
Also found out that if you accidentally paste the wrong art onto an album in itunes (where you drag and drop the art while a song is playing), you can drop new art over it, but the old art is still displayed. Doing a get info for the song that was playing shows both art images on the art tab and you can delete the one you were trying to get rid of.
Got direction from this forum. Hope this is useful to someone....

Although this discussion is a bit old I think it's still worth answering it as google points to this page.
The only reason for the above to happen (Different cover art appearing in horizontal and vertical) I can think of is that Iphone Cover Flow is an Album Art only.
iPhone and iTunes has at least two modes to display your music in that is:
    * Song mode - where tune's art is pulled from the file if any exists.
    * Album mode - where album art is shared by multiple tunes with the same "ALBUM NAME".
So if many of the songs has no ALBUM NAME at all or share something like Unknown etc. It's is likely that in Cover Flow Mode (Which is Album View) those will have some strange things displayed.
On the other hand I currently have slightly different problem hence my search. My Art is mixed up especially among the podcasts. Totally... I'll try full resync.
BTW. If you got the Art in one way or another but after uploading the tunes to iPhone you don't see it it's likely that you downloaded Art only for one of them and iTunes is showing that one for all that share the album name. If you get the art from iTunes Store then Highlight all tunes that should contain the art and right-click>Get Album Artwork, otherwise Get Info and double-click on the Artwork field on the right-hand side.

  • Sharing doesn't "share" album art.

I tried the new iTunes sharing feature. I used the import feature to bring some cds from a library on our home network to another PC's library on the same network. The songs transferred fine, but the album art didn't.
Is anyone else having this problem and is there a way to fix it?

    carsokk wrote:

It is not a problem in as much as it's the way it's supposed to work. Sharing has never included artwork. One assumes that it's to keep the amount of bandwidth used to a minimum. So, as it isn't technically broken, there is no way to fix it. Sorry.

  • ITunes 10.0.7.21 shows a white box instead of artwork for most of my albums.  Many of these are albums I purchased on itunes.  Also when I hit get album art it deleted the artwork it already had form many albums and says it cant find it.

    OS is Windows 7
I updated iTunes the other day and I decided to run "get album art" and instead of finding artwork, it made some of the artwork I already had show up as white squares, or disapear entirely.  The ones that are white squares show up under the get info, but not in itunes.  I did click in view for show al artwork, no luck.  Many of these albums I bought from iTunes.  The ones that the artwork was deleted some albums I can buy on iTunes, but already owned, and iTunes found the artwork before, but now cannot.  Some are albums that I spent many hours finding and adding the artwork myself.  I am very frustrated.  I cannot find the time to manually install artwork for thousands of songs.
My work computer is Windows 8, so I really don't want to hear windows vs OSX argument.  My company won't switch to mac because you like it better, so I just need a solution to my issue.  iTunes it has always worked better for me on my work PC than my macBook, I dont know why, but I don't take two laptops with me when I travel so I have my iTunes library on the PC that has to come with me.  This is the first time an update has screwed things up for me.

Well my first guess was wrong. The line that failed is the one that writes out the image to disk. I've not revisited the code for that script for ages, but it seems I did add in an extra test for missing files a little while later, then forgot to upload the change. I can reproduce the error message if I deliberately rename a file to confuse iTunes so that seems the most likely reason for your problem with the script. I've uploaded a new build of CreateFolderArt which should work better.
See FindTracks for a tool to repair broken links. You should probably get that issue fixed first.
I know what SPSS stands for but that is all I know about it.
