Shared Album

I am using the new photos app for Mac.
For now, I am not planning to use the iCloud photo library to upload and share all of my photos.
Still, I would like to share certain albums.
What are the limitations on shared albums?
1. Do they work at all w/o enabling iCloud photo library?
2. For how long are they valid, i.e. can I share them forever?
3. Any restrictions size or number wise?
4. DO they count against my iCloud storage?
Thanks!
Frederic

Shared Albums are totally different from the iCloud Photo Library.  They reside on different servers and separate entities.  The Shared Albums do not count against your iCloud storage space.
Therefore, the photos in a shared album must be uploaded specifically for that album.

  • How can I add photo albums on my Mac to my iCloud shared album?

I recently upgraded from iPhoto to the new Photos app on my Mac.  I then decided to try iCloud Photo Sharing.  I have 10,000 photos on my Mac and I keep them organized by albums.  I cannot figure out how to add entire selected existing photo albums in my Photos app which reside on my Mac to icloud Photo Sharing rather than adding photos one at a time.  It would take me forever to go through my 10,000 photos to choose which ones I want to share.  I just want to share certain albums.  Please help!  MacBook Pro Late 2011 Mac OS 10.10.3

Open the album and select all of the photos.  click on the Share button and select the Shared Photo Album you want to add them to (or create a new shared album).

    I have iPhone 6.
I am an member of a shared album, but i can't see any of the photos.
    How do i fix this?

The folder the internal images are stored in does the folder start with a dot as this will render the folder hidden and immune from scanning

    Hello JimS19,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPad. If you are having issues accessing your Shared Albums from your iPad (but not from your other devices), you may want to double-check your iCloud Photo Sharing configuration as outlined in the following articles, just to make sure it hasn't changed:

  • Facebook "Make Shared Album" breaks Aperture connection

As far as I can gather, Facebook albums of type "Shared Album" will disappear from your Aperture Facebook listing.
You can no longer share photos directly from Aperture for Facebook albums of this type.
I've not found much discussion on the web about this, but I have confirm this behavior by creating a test album in FB, then sharing it--it disappears.
If anyone knows of a fix to this, I'd appreciate it.
    Regards...

Same problem here and it's the same with iPhoto.  It's just plain ridiculous and I don't know why Apple hasn't fixed it.  As a result, I'm not using the Aperture Facebook uploader anymore.  I'm using a 3rd party solution: Facebook Exporter for Aperture by Sean Farley.  It has it's unique problems as well, but at least Sean is working on it. http://seanfarley.org/aperture
Does anyone have any better solutions?

  • Toolbar doesn't have option: "Photos, Shared, Albums, Projects"

The guide says there's supposed to be four options at the top of the toolbar:
    But I don't have them:
I'm using Yosemite 10.10.3, BUT I originally installed it as part of the public beta that came with Photos.  However, I have since updated to the public non-beta version.  Could this be the problem?

The guide says there's supposed to be four options at the top of the toolbar:
If you have the sidebar open you will see the Shared - Albums - Projects in the sidebar.
There are hidden Show/Hide controls to the right of the section titles, so you can show or hide them, if you hover the pointer to the right of the titles.

  • IPhoto doesn't show photos from shared albums

I enter iPhoto and I can see the folders shared with me .....however no photos are inside these folders.
One shared album was created by me via my iphone and shared with 20 people. I can see the photos on the phone and my ipad without issues but not on my MBP. MBP is running Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6.
Someone shared an album with me yesterday. Same thing. I can see the pics on both iphone and ipad but not on MBP. I can see the title of the album but it simply says "No Photos".
This is very weird. Please post if you know the answer to this issue.

I would turn off the iPhoto iCloud options and go to the system preferences and log out of iCloud - then log back in and turn the iPhoto options back on to refresh everything

  • Photos app doesn't show my shared albums and activity

I've just installed the new Photos App and so far so good, until I try the shared tab.
    cleanest place on my Mac.
I can still access it from iPhone but now I'm not sure whats going on.
is my iPhone late in cache?
is my Photos Mac going to overwrite my shared configurations / subscriptions, have it done it already?
is it just a bug ?
anybody else got the same issues?
    I just hope not.

What are your Preference Settings in Photos?
Is the Photos Library you are using enabled as System Photos Library in the Photos Preferences > General?
Is iCloud enabled in the Photos Preferences > iCloud? And also My Photo Stream and iCloud Photo Sharing?
And is the Shared Section of the Sidebar visible? It may be hidden using the invisible Show/Hide control to the right of the title "Shared"
If all settings are right, but still no Shared albums visible, disable  the shared streams in the System Preferences > iCloud > Photos > Options, then restart the Mac, and enable them again in the System Preferences and in Photos Preferences iCloud.
It may take a few hours for the streams to populate again after resetting them this way.

  • Shared albums not shown in Photos for Mac

I upgraded my iPhoto library to Photos yesterday and the main photo content migrated fine. I have two OS X devices - a MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini.
On my MacBook Pro, if I enable the sidebar in Photos, I see:
    Photos
    Shared
    Activity
<Other shared albums - both my own and from another iCloud user>
    Albums<Various Albums>
On my Mac Mini, I only see:
    Photos
    Albums<Various Albums>
So Photos on the Mac Mini is not picking up on existing shared albums. If I go to View | Shared it prompts me to "Start Sharing" (as if I haven't done this before). If I click Start Sharing and then create a test album the sharing dialog just vanishes after I select and email address to share with.
Anybody else seeing this? Any ideas?

Ok. I followed another suggestion and tried restarting the computer. It seemed to bring up the libraries. At first, I saw no pictures from the shared photos as they reported zero photos when they came up. However, leaving it open for a while seemed to bring back more and more of the libraries, and that was only after restarting the computer a 2nd time. I did get almost all my shared photos back, but each time it seems to stop and not bring all the photos back. I'll try restarting another time as it seems to be the big thing here.
The syncing activity in Yosemite seems to have some internal limit, where it stops attempting to grab photos from the stream and/or share, and then Photos only tries looking again after a computer restart, not a restart of the application.

  • IPhoto sharing - album sorting order?

I share my entire iPhoto library using sharing in the iPhoto prefs.
When I'm on my other mac, I can see all the shared albums, but they are sorted in a random order ?!?
Not the same way I sorted them, not alphabetical and not by date?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
How can u identify which pics in iphoto are not jpeg?
Create a smart album with the following criteria: File Name does not contain jpg.
That will show you all non jpg files in your library.

  • Photostream shares photos from shared albums to my computer, but "My Photostream" on my computer is empty. How can I get my photos to upload to my computer?

I have an iPhone 6 now, but I had an iPhone 5s previously. My Photostream stopped uploading pictures to my computer in November, 2013. If I create a shared album on my phone, it uploads to my PC, but "My Photostream" does not update. I've reset settings on the phone, turned sharing on and off, restarted my phone, updated operating systems, paid for more storage on iCloud.

    Greetings monienon,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you have your My Photo Stream activated on your iPhone but nothing is showing in My Photo Stream in iPhoto. In this situation, I would recommend working through the suggested troubleshooting steps for this situation located in the attached article.
Get help using My Photo Stream - Apple Support
I don't see any photos in the My Photo Stream view of iPhoto or Aperture.
Make sure your Mac has an active Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. If you can't connect to the Internet, updates to My Photo Stream won't appear in iPhoto or Aperture. You can use these steps to troubleshoot your Internet connection on your Mac.
From your Mac, choose System Preferences > iCloud.
Make sure that the Photo Stream checkbox is selected and you're signed in to the same iCloud account that you're using on your other supported devices.
Open iPhoto or Aperture, then choose Preferences > iCloud (or Photo Stream).
If you're using iPhoto 9.4 or later or Aperture 3.4 or later, make sure that My Photo Stream is selected. If you want all new photos that you upload to your iPhoto or Aperture library to upload to My Photo Stream, select Automatic Upload.
If you're using iPhoto 9.2.2 through 9.3.2, or Aperture 3.2.3 through 3.3.2, select Enable Photo Stream and Automatic Import.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • Can't see my shared albums

I can't see all my shared albums in my mac's photos app. Anyone met this kind of problem? Please, help!
This is a screenshot. Its in Russian, but I hope, it looks similar to other languages.

OK. I, finally found a solution and it works beautifully for me!
Here is a repost from another helpful thread:
    1. Quit Photos
    2. Remove the folder:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/Application Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd
    3. Restart
    4. Launch Photos
    … and everything works again!!
    Hope, it will help everybody!

  • Can't see shared albums in Lion

I have iLife 11 and Lion. I can no longer see my shared iPhoto libraries. I have gone into preferences both for iPhoto and System and am sharing everything. But the albums for each machine do not appear in iPhoto in either machine. It used to work under Snow Leopard. Any suggestions. Thanks, Andrew

    Hi TD
I have a MBP and a MacMini. The MBP holds my images. I want to access the images on the MacMini, as I have always done in the past under Snow Leopard. Both machines are now running Lion. In any case, on the MBP iPhoto is set up to share all images (under iPhoto Preferences/Sharing) Share my photos>>Share entire library and Require password is on and a password set. Status is: on. On the MBP under System Preferences File sharing is chosen. The only sharing that is not enabled is screen sharing, web sharing and internet sharing.
On the MacMini (under iPhoto Preferences/Sharing) i is set to look for shared photos as well as shar my photos (there are a few on the MacMini). Under System Preferences everything is sharable.
I have restarted the apps and the machines various times but I cannot ge the shared albums to appear in the side bar as they always used to in Snow Leopard.

  • HT201077 Can only some subscribers to an iCloud Photo Sharing album post?

Seems like iCloud Photo Sharing is missing some key features. Or clarity.
I've created an iCloud Photo Sharing album, to share baby photos with family and friends.
I want to my wife to also be able to upload photos to this album, but not everyone else.
Can an iCloud Photo Sharing Album have 2 administrators?Or can we have individual subscriber settings to specify who gets to upload and who doesn't?
Do all subscribers see who the other subscribers are? Family dynamics dictate that some members should NOT see each other (or their comments), but I don't want to have to create an album for each of those people).
Do email (non-iOS) folks get an email notifications of newly uploaded photos? (families = many generations, some of which aren't iOS compatible) What's the fix?
    Thanks!

    Hi there Anthony Sbarro,
You may find the information in the article below helpful. If you delete the photos, they will only delete from the photostream.
    iCloud: Shared Photo Streams FAQ
How do I delete photos from a shared stream?
If you are the owner of a shared stream, you can delete photos from the stream in the same way you delete any other photos from your iOS device, Mac, or Windows PC.  The photos will be automatically deleted from the stream on all your devices and the devices of anyone subscribed to the stream. Any photos that were previously saved or downloaded from the shared stream to another location, such as the Camera Roll, will not be deleted from that location. Learn more about deleting shared photos.
