Shared Apple ID, but separate iCloud accounts

Right now, my wife and I share both an Apple ID and an iCloud account.  I will soon be buying a new MBP for my new business. I'd like to move my contacts and calendars over to iCloud from Google.  But, my wife currently keeps her contacts in iCloud.  Can I create a separate iCloud account for myself while still sharing the Apple ID so we can share apps?
Thanks

On an iDevice or a Mac you can always chose another account for the uTunes store for sharing your apps. Take a new iCloud account for yourself for all other things than the iTunes/MacAppStore.

repeating error message reads: "valid apple id but not icloud account." when trying to start my icloud account.  I tried downloading on a different computer and logging in and it did not work.  I have restarted my computer several times.  I have changed my password several times.  I have tried to access the icloud page.  Nothing has worked.  Now I have this stupid app and some of my music is still not being shared on both of my computers.

I have the same problem signing in...but, I finally got a screen saying you have to set up a account on a device..like an ipad to get a iCloud sign in ...my apple id is [email protected]   and this screen reset to [email protected]
If you don't have an apple device you may be out of luck.  I don't know.  I'm still waiting for help just as you are...good luck to both of us though.

  • How do you use family share when we all currently use the same Apple ID but different iCloud accounts?

our family is currently using all the same Apple ID so we don't have to purchase thing twice, but now I want to set up the family share. Do we all have to have our own Apple ID to set up the family share? We do all have separate iCloud's accounts, I'm not sure if that even makes a difference.

    Hello me1002,
That is a good question. Everyone will need their own Apple ID that is signed into iCloud and iTunes. When setting this up, someone will need to be the Organizer so whom ever it is will champion this. Then everyone else will need to sign in to each respective accounts and then the organizer will need to send out invites to join Family Sharing. If you get that all setup, remember that when making purchases from those Apple ID will belong to that specific Apple ID so if anyone leaves, others will not have access to that purchased content.

  • Is it possible to have the same Apple ID but several iCloud accounts?

My teenagers use my Apple ID and we like iTunes home sharing, but they want to have their own iCloud account. I don't find the answer anywhere.

mende1 is correct.  Each iCloud account is associated with a single Apple ID.  It is not possible to have multiple iCloud accounts with the same ID.  If you want to create multiple iCloud accounts you have to use a different Apple ID for each one.
Note: you can have different iCloud accounts with different IDs and still share the same ID for iTunes.  The ID you use for iTunes does not have to be the same as the ID you use for iCloud.

  • HT4759 I have changed my Apple id but my icloud account on my iphone 3gs wont let me change my apple id. How can I sort this?

I have changed my Apple id & password but I cannot change my icloud id on my iphone as it wont let me edit the id. I can edit the password but I can't log in with theprevious unchangeable id. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

  • I have an Apple ID but no iCloud account

I setup an apple ID and it is confirmed, but when I use that for the iCloud account it says the ID is an Apple ID but NOT an iCloud account? I can't configure how to set it to an iCloud account. Everywhere where it says iCloud I get prompt that it isn't a iCloud account but an AppleID and I get redirected to iCloud again and get ofcourse the same message again.

Did you already activate iCloud on your IOS device using that same apple ID?

  • I had to change my apple id but the icloud account still has the old one. How can i change it.

My apple id was cancelled by apple due to a problem and they suggested me to make a new apple id with a different email adress. Thats what i did, the proble is that the i cloud has the old apple id and i was trying to change it but i cant and the iphone keeps asking me to put de password on the old apple id wich is no longer in use
The second problem is that when i was trying to change that, something happened and all my contacts were erased!
I still have them on my ipad, but i dont know what to do, is all a mess with my devices!
    Can somebody help me please?

With iOS 7 you will have to provide the password for the old ID in order to delete the existing account from your iPad.  If you can't do this, contact Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click More Produces & Services>Apple ID>iTunes Store, App Store or Mac App Store>Disabled Apple ID.
As far as your missing contacts, when you get the password for the old ID reset, sign in with the ID and your new password at icloud.com and check to see if your contacts are there.  If they are, export them as a vCard as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3606.  You can then import this vCard to your new account as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3605.

  • HT204053 I have one apple ID and 2 iCloud accounts...is there a way to consolidate these accounts?

I have one apple ID , but two icloud accounts....not even sure why i have 2 now....might have happened when i got my iPad last year. Is there a way to consolidate the two icloud accounts without losing my contacts or other info?

Each iCloud account has a separate ID.  You can't have two accounts with the same ID.
If you want to consolidate them, choose the device with the account on it that you want to abandon, then save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with the account that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your other account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide your password (if using iOS 7) and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Then sign into the account you want to merge with and choose Merge when prompted.
You cannot move iCloud email accounts between iCloud accounts so you will have to leave it behind.  You can set email forwarding to the new email account, or add the email account back to your devices  as a secondary account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCoud, signing in to the account and enabling Mail.  Email in this secondary account will only be fetched periodically as push email is only supported in your primary account.

  • How can I have one "family" Apple ID and two icloud accounts one for me and one for the wife?

MacVirgin!Just got new Air and iMac (iphones on the way). How can I have one Apple ID but two iCloud accounts (one for me and one for my wife)? I have set up one iCloud account and am attempting to share contacts between iMac, iCloud and Air, however iMac and iCloud are not in sync? I must be missing something very simple.

ok. I set up the imac and Air with one user account. this was used to activae iCloud on both machines and I have now se up one iCloud account and managed to share calander and contacts between the two. Ultimately both me and my wife will have an iphone and we wish to share calenders and contacts. We both also use the imac and air on one user account. It looks like I need to set another user account then activate iCloud in my wifes Apple ID

  • HT4436 is there a way to change the apple ID on an Icloud account? I used to share everything with my daughter but she's old enough we need to separate the accounts.. I would like to "give" the ICloud account to her, because all of her games are on it.

Is there a way to change the apple ID on an Icloud account? I would like to "give" an ICloud account to my daughter. We used to share one, but she's getting older I would like to split our accounts. She has her own Apple ID but since all her games are on this ICloud account, I would like to give it to her and start my own.

You can migrate your device and a copy of the iCloud data to a new account.  To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow, then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; your daughter's device won't be effected by this), choose Keep on My iPad and provide the password when prompted.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload the data.
Once you are on separate accounts you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
The existing iCloud email account cannot be moved to your new account so you will need to give your contacts your new email address if you are giving the account to your daughter.

  • My family has separate icloud accounts, but we want to share an iTunes account.  How do we do that?

My family has separate icloud accounts, but we want to share an iTunes account.  How do we do that?

This is still not related to iCloud. Suppose your son has his own iTunes library. He connects his iPod to that, and the contents of his library are transferred to his iPod.
Now he connects to your Library; and his iPod is wiped and the contents of your Library transferred to it.
Any workaround is going to involve manual operation or sharing, and is outside my experience. Your best bet would be to start a new thread and ask about sharing different people's libraries, without mentioning iCloud which is a red herring.

  • HT204053 My wife and me are using the same apple id on our ipads, can we have separate icloud accounts?

I want to know if you can have a separate icloud account on your ipad, the account is in my wife's apple id, i want a separate icloud account on my ipad.

If you are talking about Game Center, she can migrate to a different iCloud account and keep her Game Center ID the same (it doesn't need to be the same as her iCloud ID.
To migrate her iPad to a separate iCloud account, start by saving any photo stream photos she wants to keep to her camera roll (unless already there) by opening her my photo stream album, tapping Select (Edit in iOS 6), tap the photos, tap the share icon -- box with upward pointing arrow (Share in iOS 6), then tap Save to Camera Roll.  If she is syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to her so she can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in her new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; this won't effect your iPad), choose Keep on My iPad and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone (if using iOS 7).  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create her new account and choose Merge to upload her data to the new account.
Once she is on a separate account, you can each go to icloud.com from your computer and delete the other person's data from your account.
To avoid getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls, make sure you are not sharing the same Apple ID for these services.  If you are, on her iPad go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID (such as her new iCloud ID).

I have an iPad and iPhone backed up with the same icloud account but because iv two the storage has filled really quick, how can I have separate icloud accounts?

You got it with that same apple id thing. You can use different apple id's, but then they will not sync. Apple does allow as many free apple id's as you want, but they are in the business to make money.

Yes, that's exactly what I'd suggest for the vast majority of users.
