Shared doccument scanner

I am using a shared Epson document scanner. When scanning multiple pages with imagecapture the PDF that is created is only one page. This does not happen on the CPU the scanner is connected to. All the settings are the same. Is their a way around this?

Sai of 2008, Welcome to the discussion area!
Sorry but the Time Capsule is working exactly as specified. None of Apple's base stations (including the Time Capsule) support scanning via USB port.
Only the printing portion of your Brother MFCC7220 would be expected to work.

  • Sharing a scanner on the network?

Connected my Canon MP830 to the Airport Extreme and I can print fine, but can't scan. Do I need to purchase a more up-to-date printer/scanner combo to be able to scan over the network?

Hello LeeG20. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Sorry, but the USB port on the AirPort base stations do not support the more advanced functions, like scanning, on multi-function printers. You may need to rely on a different vendor's solution to be able to share this printer. The other option, if this printer is network-ready, is to connect it to the AirPort via Ethernet.

  • Sharing a Scanner

My wife and I have two macs, an iMac G5 (Panther) and an iBook G4 (Tiger) and we just got a new flatbed scanner, a Canon 8400F. I have set up an airport network that works fine: we can both surf the web and share a printer wirelessly. I was hoping that we could somehow hook the scanner up to the network and also share it wirelessly, but I'm told that this can't be done. My question is this: Is there anyway to run the USB cable from the scanner to some kind of a splitter that would go to both computers as opposed to cable swapping. I know that only one computer would be able to use the scanner at a time, but what I would like to do is eliminate the cable swap each time the other guy wants to use the scanner. And what about wireless Airport scanning? Why can't it be done?
    Bill

    Bill,
A solution for you appears to be on the "Airport & Airport Express" discussion board of the "Digital Life" section. When I search "scanners" on that entire board, I get 115 hits. Here's one recent thread that would appear to be a help for you:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2176994&#2176994
I also have the Canon 8400F scanner. I used Canon's instructions to hook it up (via USB to any individual Mac containing that Canon software).
The Canon 8400F can only be USB connected to a computer or a powered USB hub. According to Canon FAQ's, it might not operate normally even when properly connected to the hub, in which case one is supposed to plug the scanner's USB cable directly into the computer rather than the hub. This might indicate that the alternative set-up suggested could be problematic.
The Airport Express base station's USB port is only usable for connecting a printer. The same is true for the larger Airport Extreme base station's USB port. There is no mention in any Apple literature of any other USB devices that can be connected to that particular USB port. Apple's phrasing is: "USB port for connecting a USB printer."
    Good luck.

  • Sharing a Scanner Over Local Area Network

Recently added howto share a scanner over a local network:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/USB_Scanner_Support

Thank you very much. In order to bring it to work, I had to (on the server) :
    - replace 'nobody' by 'root' in  /etc/xinetd.d/sane-port
    - add 'saned: client ip' in /etc/hosts.allow

  • Sharing scanner via image capture.

I am sharing a scanner via image capture thru my machine, but am running into the issue that it is not maintaining the "shared" setting. I am having to go under browse and recheck the share button virtually everytime i start image capture (or restart my machine)
Anyway ideas to get around this annoyance?
on a side note: from time to time image capture does not even recognize the scanner and i have to unplug, restart the scanner, restart image capture in order for it recognize it.
    Thanks.

    PAHU,
I feel like a complete idiot.  It was exactly the lock button.  The last time I finished using it, I locked it.  I totally forgot about it and I never thought of that being the problem to check.
I really appreciate your help and thanks to you, I'm back and scanning!

  • How can I use a scanner connected to my old PC?

    Hi!
Aside from my iMac, I have a PC to which a printer is attached. I used system preferences to connect to that printer (it worked just fine), and now when I click "print" on the mac, the printer starst printing (as long as the PC is on).
Now, I would like to do the same thing with a scanner, also connected to the PC. How do I do it? (I confess I forgot exactly what I did to connect the printer, as this would probably help.... hehehe.. but I remember typing the name of the PC workgroup and it's IP address somewhere.)
The scanner is an HP 2400 and USB.
Thanks a lot for the help!

    How do I do it?
You would have to contact the manufacturer of the scanner to see if their software allows for sharing the scanner, as Mac OS X has no built in support for that.

  • What is new-host in shared folder

I believe others have had this problem, too.  Seems to have started around the time I set up my wireless printer.  Spoke with Apple support today and they suggested I unclick everything in {apple} - system preferences - internet and wireless - sharing.  (I had ticked printer sharing and scanner sharing - which I apparently I need not have done if only this computer needs to access the wireless printer!).  Now I no longer see the mysterious "pc server" named "new-host" under "sharing" in finder.
Hope this helps others and if anyone has more of an explanation would love to hear it!

    Mike,
Nothing new in 2.1 to speak of. It's really just a slightly re-packaged version of 2.0. The interface had to be different for that, because there really are no workspaces in XE and also we needed to add some database management capabilities that are XE specific.

  • Is it possible to share a scanner?

I've shared printers before but never a scanner. Any ideas? HP ScanJet 3500C.

Sharing a scanner like you would a printer is never a good idea. I can't give you a "nuts and bolts" explanation but it just never works out. Anyway, since a scanner needs to be loaded "by hand" (unlike a printer which has a supply of ink, paper, etc.), it does not really make a lot of sense to fight with it. Simpler just to scan from the 'puter that has the scanner connected (save the scan to a folder or to the desktop) and then slurp the scan from the machine which you want to use to work on the file.

  • Image Capture Overview vs. Scan

Hi! I am fairly new to Mac, so please bear with me. I have a 2012 iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. My printer/scanner is an Epson WP-4530. I am using Image Capture 6.6 (525). My question is this...why is the Overview image on my screen so incredibly different than what is actually scanned? I kept the settings that the software set out for text, and it's a hot mess. I've tried playing around with the settings, but I can't figure this out. Logic tells me there has to be a simple solution since the Overview is so good, but I'm at a loss. Please help!!

As far as sharing the scanner using image capture, browse to the scanner (devices > browse devices), then click on the sharing button on the bottom left of the window...You can share the device from there, and add a password if necessary...
    Cool when it works!
However, you cannot have more than 1 computer at a time using the scanner, so if another person has image capture open (but isn't using the scanner), you need to make them quit....
Still, this works pretty well (well, at least it did work pretty well
BTW-I thought I had installed the latest driver, but I will try again and see.....

  • HOW DO I CHANGE THE OWNER'S NAME ON MY MACS?

After migrating a MacBook Pro system to a Mac Pro, I´ve the same name on both computers. That´s a problems for Mobile Me, sharing, etc. Is it possible to change both (I need just one, but I want to change both) computer´s names?
    MacBookPro_X
    MacPro_Y
What are the implications of that change (if possible) for Mobile Me, Sharing, Printers, Scanner, External HDD, Applications, etc. Do I need to operate other changes in order to prevent problems?
    Thanks very much.

Go to system preferences and the sharing tab, then change the "computer name".
That's not a problem for anything.
If you had links from the other computer in the name.local format, you'll just need to update them.

  • Image capture, can't scan

I have an epson 2480 scanner that worked with image capture in tiger. After upgrading to Leopard, it seems that I can no longer scan. Image Capture speaks to the scanner (the scanner will scan a preview when I launch image capture), but the scan button is greyed out.
This ***** because I would use image capture to share the scanner with other users in my group. Now, the only way to scan is to sit at the computer that is hooked up to the scanner and scan there using the epson scan software.
If anyone has any ideas as to how to re-enable image capture scanning, I would love to hear it.
On another note, image capture does not work on any local account on the machine, whether admin or standard.
    Thanks for any advice...

  • Internet Usage Gone Amok!

Hi all (and Tesserax if you're online, you know the history of my problem!). I am posting this here because I can't find another forum which seems appropriate.
Short version: for two weeks we've been aware that our internet usage has been exceeding our use. We have two iMacs networked in a small office, both are running Snow Leopard.
We have tried eliminating what we thought the issue was - namely that someone had hijacked our wireless somehow.  So: we installed a new D-Link router (which is WPA encrypted AND then the entire wireless radio disabled), and we have a new cable modem from our ISP, along with a new virus program (Intego Virus Barrier X6). We scanned both computers and Intego found one virus (a file called 1024.dmg which had been on one of our computer's hard drives since 2008!) and one attempted port scan, which was blocked. Other than that, there has been no suspicious activity reported.
I called an Intego technician who assured me that their software would catch anything out of the ordinary and so therefore it can't be anything on our computers. The Intego guy said that only a trojan would be capable of doing something like this, but again, VirusBarrier would catch that. Also Interesting to note: it's the downloads that are extraordinary, while the uploads are consistent with our day to day business.
Even with all of these things up and running, we're still experiencing spikes in our internet use that has us and our ISP puzzled. Two days in the past month we weren't even in the office at all and there were 6 gigabyte spikes on record!  However, our computers were on, but in deep sleep mode.  Something fishy...could someone be hacking in even with our computers in sleep mode????
My ISP mentioned that they have a client who's son let their bit torrent open and someone was downloading off of their internet access, running up the father's bill to $900. From what I understand, bit torrent is a P2P protocol. We don't do ANY file sharing that isn't between the two computers on our LAN.
is there any way that someone can get in that way?  On my computer, I have file sharing, printer sharing and scanner sharing enabled.
Oh - and we thought that maybe our ISP's usage tracking was off, so for three days we unplugged our ethernet cable to test. Then we checked the usage for those three days and there was nothing.  So something is definitely happening on our end, but we're beside ourselves trying to figure this out! I am wondering if anyone can assit me here.  Tesserax has been very kind in offering suggestions - if you have any more, I'd appreciate it!
    thanks
    B.

    Hi Tesserax.
Already did it: the numbers are a combined total from both computers.
Further to me posting that last note, I did some online research and found scores of complaints on different internet forums commenting on the exact same problem I've had AND with the same ISP.  There is a general consensus that their internet meter is faulty.
AND: I found articles where Bell has actually admitted to having faulty metering.  So this is nothing new.  What irks me is that the earliest post I found is from 2009 and no one at my ISP even mentioned that this could be the issue!  Nor does it seem that they're in any hurry to rectify the problem.
In some cases, their numbers are astronomical - 56gb per day even!
At least it's not on my end and that we don't have a hacker, which was my real concern.
But worth posting in case others come across the same issue and think, like me, that someone is stealing their wireless.
Anyway, thanks again for all your help.
    B.

  • Printers connected to a dual band network

How can I have a laser printer seen by the two networks setup by a dual band extreme?

Thanks for the reply and potential solution Tesserax.
Here is the detailed (and long) version of my problem. I bought a Lexmark S608 printer thinking that since it supports wireless n, that all would be good and I could print and scan wirelessly. Unfortunately, the S60x only supports wireless n in the 2.4GHz band.
So if I downgrade my wireless n to 2.4GHz, the MacBook, Mac Mini and S608 are on the same network and can print and scan wirelessly.
The problem is that even watching YouTube video wirelessly is not possible on the n 2.4GHz band; it stops every few seconds to buffer. I guess I have a lot of interference where I am in the 2.4GHz band (and I don't have 2.4GHz phones). I have tried different channels on the 2.4GHz band but with no success; since I switched to the 5GHz band over a year ago, all has been very good. I tested copying files locally from/to the MacBook and the Mac Mini and wireless n 2.4GHz takes more than five time longer on average than wireless n 5GHz.
If I share the S608 on the TC USB port I will be able to print wirelessly from both the MacBook and Mac Mini, but won't be able to scan from either.
For now, I've attached the S608 to the Mac Mini via USB. I shared the printer via the sharing control panel and that works fine. But I shared the scanner via the sharing control panel and that does not seem to work; I cannot access the scanning function using Preview from the MacBook for example (whereas this was possible when the S608 was connected wirelessly on the n 2.4GHz band).
I looked at creating a WDS network but I have not tried yet because everything I've read says that it will halve your speed at best (and including g (for the printer/scanner) and n seemed to be problematic for most).
So I don't think it is possible, but I was therefore wondering if the dual band feature of the latest TC or AEBS would allow clients to see each other, bridging the 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz network together.
All that to say that the S608 is still a fine printer for my needs, but it would have been practical to be able to scan wirelessly from either the MacBook or Mac Mini. So buyer beware!

  • Is the new imac compatible with the dell v313w printer for wireless connection?

Is the new iMac compatible via wireless connection with the Dell V313W printer?

    Hi Sara!
I got an email refering me to your post.  Ok, www.MacMall.com is a US website that sells Apple products.  I bought my iMac&printer through their website and worked with their customer service department to get my iMac communicating with the Dell V313W printer.  They have people that will take calls any time-any day at phone number 1-800-622-6255.  The other option since you are in France would be to contact a local Apple dealer...or see if they have an authorized dealer in Europe that could help.  I purchased the Apple Care Support contract with the iMac but they were unable to help since they weren't familiar with the Dell printer.
As I mentioned in my previous post the things we tried were: 1) If I remember right... I downloaded the Dell V313W printer driver from the Dell website then connected the iMac to the printer via the USB cable and established communication. I then disconnected the cable and 2) I moved the iMac and printer closer to my wireless router then 3) I turned on "Printer Sharing" on the iMac - I think this is a critical step...to do this go to System Preferences > Hardware > Print&Scan.  In the window that opens make sure the box is checked that says "Share this printer on the network" then go to the "Sharing Preferences..." box and check the "Printer Sharing" and "Scanner Sharing" boxes in the window that opens.  When I did all this the iMac went through it's routine to find the printer and the connection was finally established!
One more thing, make sure if your wireless router is locked for security that you enter the correct password when prompted...this might have been one of my problems also!
    Hope this helps.
    All the best,
    mw

  • Sharing scanner - HP LaserJet 100 color MPF M175a

I have installed this printer as a shared device on a Windows 7 machine directly connected via USB. Printer sharing works fine but the scanner does not appear to be shared. Although printing and scanning works fine from the machine it is connected to, HP Device Toolbox says it is unable to connect to the printer. I can't find any help for either issue on your website.....

    Hi,
I understand that you are not able to scan from multiple computers. This feature would only work on a netwok connected printer.
A workaround for your issue would be to share the scan folder on your parent computer and let other users access the scanned files from there.
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
