Shared Excel 2011 workbook (stored on NAS) - for 3 Mac users opens okay but 1 user opens as read only.

4 Users accessing shared excel workbook on NAS drive, all using OSX 10.9.4 & Office 2011 14.4.4
They all have equal permissions on the NAS.
Does anyone know why this might happen?

Mavericks is not recognizing the .smi extension - on my Mac it thinks it's a RealPlayer document. You are not going to be able to do anything with this - it requires AppleWorks to be present to be updated, and you can't run AppleWorks on Mavericks (other than by the rather roundabout process of installing Snow Leopard Server in Parallels and installing AppleWorks on that, as described here).

This worked for me:
"Although it is not a 'fix' for the HP issue, I did find a workaround that helped me. In the Preferences Panel in MacOS X you can pull up the Printer/Scanner preferences and scan directly from OS X. I'd not known of this prior to posting here and it worked like a charm."

Perhaps you could be more specific: any .doc file written in Mac OS is opened with difficulty? what version of Office on mac and what version in windows? any format, e.g. .doc or .rtf? Even a simple rtext of, say, 2-3 pages? or only long docs, e.g. 100 pages or more? what language is used? English or any other West European, Latin based text, or other scripts too? What do you understand by ‘people have a hard time opening it with a PC?’ takes a very long time? or does not open at all? etc. etc.

Hey folks. PLEASE help. I'm running Mac 10.9.2 with Excel 2011 on a macbook pro. All of a sudden i'm getting an error 'Margins Do Not Match Page Size' on Excel as soon as i start doing anything e.g. adjust page size, try to print. Help?

Can not open Sharepoint's file ( Wolrd, Excel ...) with Office for Mac 2016 preview.

I can’t neither open nor edit the files ( Wolrd, Excel ...) that are located in our sharepoint. When i try that, i get firstly the sharepoint connexion mask, where i can give my sharepoint login and my passwort, what i do and afterwards i get
the following error message with only the ok button:
There is a problem with your account. Please try later again .
When i click on ok, the file don’t open.
Is Office for Mac 2016 preview able to open sharepoint file? how can i fix this issue?
On the browser work all without any probleme. I have already try to use a another account, the result ist unfortunately the same.
I have full rihgt on the sharepoint site and we use office 365 Pro plus.

Assuming you have quit and reopened the Office applications and you have shut down and then rebooted OS X with no change in the results uninstalling and reinstalling Office has been a standard "quick fix" for MS Office problems for well over 10 years. It works often enough to be well worth trying.

Issues with Microsoft Word for mac closing when I try to open old or newly downloaded documents

When I download a document from my professor, or try to open an older document, my word automatically quits. If it's already closed and I try to open a document, it will show the dot at the bottom of the icon that it's loading to open but it quickly disappears and quits itself. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or know what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

My CD/DVD drive reads regular CDs/DVDs but installation DVDs such as iWork's and office for Mac it spits it out after trying to read it. Please help!!!

For some reason when I insert installation discs for programs like iWork's and office for Mac the drive does not read the disc. I tried movies and music and they worked perfectly. I was able to fix the problem with the iWork's disc by creating a disc image in another drive, I have yet to do this with the Office for Mac but I would like to know what could be the reason for this problem. Any help is appreciated.

I forgot that I have an extended AppleCare Protection Plan, I contacted Apple today (in Sydney) and they took me through step by step. I tried inserting my OS X disc and it accepted it, I tried putting in a commercial DVD (Star Wars) and it started playing. I then tried putting in a commercial CD and it wouldn't work through iTunes. It made incredibly sick whirring noises and then eventually (approx 5 minutes later) appearred on my desktop, but iTunes7 would not recognise the disc.
Then he suggested I log in under another username which I did... Then my drive prompty died. It does not accept any disc now. He said that I need to have my iBook seen to by a technician. Since I have the extended warranty, my repair shouldn't cost me anything (the extended warranty was ovver $400, so it better not cost anything), so I can't give you an indication as to what you will be up for.
You do not need o take your iBook to the place where you bought it, but ensure you have your sales receipt.

So I need a media player for Mac that has both Speed Controlers (so I can slow down the audio to transcribe them) and can open .wma audio files. Please! And just how is suggesting to remove Lion and to go back to Snow Leopard not helping the OP in his quest to make his already owned and paid for MS Office software work? If it is isn't broken stop trying to fix it. Snow Leopard is a fine OS. Lion is still in Beta, only Apple hasn't told anyone. And yes I run Lion on my new MBP but I also have a partition with Snow Leopard on it.
