Shared folder in finder window accidentally removedm- how to replace it?

my wife accidentally deleted the shared file in the finder window.
How do I replace it?
I discovered it was missing because we just bought a new MacBook and wanted to fly in some library info.
THANKS

chose file>preferences>sidebar and the appropriate boxes were already checkedchecked, so… I think I have to delete a prefs in a library, right?
if I'm right about that, which one?
can't look at the moment because migration assistant is having it's way with the computer…

  • How to remove a computer from my shared folder in Finder?

Just purchased a new iMac. After setting up Wi-Fi network connection, from DSL, now have a unknown computer listed within the shared folder in Finder. Have no idea who this is, but want to remove it. How?

    Hi Vonni,
Often people will borrow, piggyback, a network without meaning to do harm. They just want a free internet connection. That being said, would you trust a stranger to plug their computer into your network? The best thing for you to do is read the manual that came with your router and find out how to turn on WPA encryption. Sometimes the router companies have support lines. After this is done, it means that anyone who uses your wireless connection will have to have your network name (AKA "SSID") and password. If you give them the password, they can use your network connection. If not, then they can't. That includes friends and family, when they are at your house for a visit. Giving them the WPA wireless password won't give them access to your computer (unless you use the same password - a bad idea), it will just give them access to your network.
There's no way that I know of to eliminate a computer from your Shared Folder area. That said, it also doesn't mean that they have access to your computer. It might actually mean that you have access to theirs!
To see what they have access to, go to the Apple menu at the top left corner of the screen and start System Preferences. Inside there, you will see "Sharing". If you uncheck all of the boxes in there, there is little that anyone could do.

    Help with Adobe.premiere.elements12. Please
It would appear under the organizer tab that the photos are organised in the lowest folder in the folder structure within Windows Explorer.  How can I use the Windows Explorer structure to organise the photos within Elements.

In a situation such as yours, I tend to consolidate items into folders so I have folders of nice workable numbers of images, somewhere between 20 and 200 images. Now, whatever, once you've imported, do your moving within LR, not the OS! I will select all in a folder and drag into a folder a level or two or three above, and then delete the newly empty subfolders. I hope this helps a bit!
Once you've reached just new Imports of camera output, you'll be flying along.

  • How to delete a shared folder from Finder?

    Hello,
When I set up my new Powerbook, I used the migration assistant to move my files from my old PC.
The migration assistant created a new account - Richatom2937. In order to copy my files from this new account to my own account, I created a shared folder (it got called Richatom2937), then dragged my files from this shared account into my main account. I then deleted the account Richatom2937.
Unforutnately, there is still a shortcut to richatom2937 in Finder/Shared. How do I delete this shortcut? I can't go back to the old account to remove the folder sharing because the old account is deleted.

You need to delete the folder in your email program.

  • How to remove "shared folder"  in Finder?

Hi, my home directory now appears as "shared Folder" in the top of Finder.
I selected "get info" for the home directory.
The shared folder box is not selected.
in sharing and permissions there is:
    alberto(me) privilege: read and write
    staff: read and write
    everyone: no access.
I selected apply to enclosed items.
what is generating that "shared folder info?"
How do I remove the "sharing" of my home directory?
(In other volumes, and in the top of my home volume the permissions are: system red and write, admin read and write, everyone read only, and there is no "shared folder" info in that volumes).

That last item is usually problematical. Applying to enclosed items can cause problems with permissions.

If you have a backup, revert to the time when it was working properly.

There have also been many bug fixes since 10.5.2 which you indicate you are running. You might consider updating to the latest version of Leopard.

  • File(s) appear in all OS X finder window frames. How did I remove? TIA

Yep. File icon with filename under it appears on all finder window frames next to Search window. I have two: one an existing file on Desktop and another for which I deleted the actual Desktop file which now appears as a question mark only. I think I dropped these Desktop file on a Finder window frame. My bad. I can't find a way to rid myself of them. Maybe Disk warrior can help? If I log in under a different user these files do not appear on the window frames. Can someone help?

Thanks for the response. I've looked into things in the past and this gives me more things to look at. Let's first talk about that file that is not shown as a ?. It's called Senate Action on Cloture Motions.rtf, although that is irrelevant. The Name and icon appears on the Desktop itself as usual, and on every Finder Window Frame when I'm logged in (as opposed to another user logged in). The file is also in the Desktop Folder as you say, but only once. In effect, I have 3 name instances of that file. The ? file no longer appears on the desktop, since I deleted the actual file, but the ? for it still appears on Finder window frames. The ? does not appear in the Desktop Folder. I ***think*** I somehow created an alias for these files, but don't know how I got them on the Finder Window frames. If I could find the alias, I may be able to fix this myself.

  • Ethernet connection and 'shared' option in finder window!!!

I am relatively new to mac and everyday I see something that I don't understand, like the other day I connected to internet using ethernet cable and 'shared' option appeared in finder window with all kinds of people and devices listed. It never happened when I connected through wireless. What does it mean? Are other people able to see my computer and the content on it? Any explanation would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi
It's either a PC or some other Hewlett Packard device connected to your network or on another network (probably wirelessly) you're connected to. It's in the Shared section of the Sidebar because it's either broadcasting itself using Bonjour or more likely NetBios. You can choose to not see this option by disabling it in the Finder Preferences.
It's also possible it's your router/gateway/wireless access point.
If you've not enabled personal file sharing and you're not in the habit of handing your account password out to all and sundry, there's nothing to worry about.

  • Selecting shared computer closes Finder window

I have two Airs on OS 10.9.4 that have file sharing enabled and are on my wireless network. The second Air shows up in the sidebar of the Finder window under Shared as expected, but when I click on it I immediately switch back to whatever other application is open instead of that window showing "Connect as..." in the next column. Going the other direction (from the second to the first) is fine. What am I doing wrong?

To clarify (now that I've looked at it), it actually appears to relaunch the Finder since the menu bar disappears then reappears.

  • Finder window is frozen, how do I fix this?

I open Finder and the Finder window comes up, but the window doesn't respond to anything - mouse clicks, scrolling, resizing by grabbing the corner - no response, except the green, yelllow and red buttons at the top left display color when moused over.  The scroll bar bubbles do not show color.  I can drag the Finder window across the screen as usual, but nothing within the window is responsive.
Before I was aware of the frozen Finder window, I had made two changes to my iMac: I made changes to keyboard shortcuts and I installed Grid from the Mac App Store.  Grid is a new utility by DevonTechnologies for desktop window management.
What can be done to bring Finder back to life?
    Thanks, Illiam

    Uninstall Grid.

  • MIssing Albums Folder from Finder window

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought under the "Pictures" folder there should be an "Album" Folder. This Album folder would contain all the albums created in iPhoto. Is this a correct assessment?
If so, I do not have an album folder. How can I get it back? Any help would be much appreciated. As my finder is now, there are some data files but all date folder organizing my photos but no albums.
    Thanks
    Mike

Hi Michael, as Alexander said, they are not more. And may I add, much to everyones dismay. I'll give you a little more info that might help you out.
iPhoto 5 now stores the Album information in a data xml file. The Albums folder within the iPhoto Library folder is no longer used. At some point, usually after a rebuild, you will no longer have that folder in the Finder.
If you need to access photos from an album it is very difficult for a third party application to navigate the iPhoto Library in order to find the photo you need. You will have to know the date of import in order to find the photo.
There are some third party applications that can read the xml file and can navigate the iPhoto library and show you the Albums. Hopefully more applications will be revised to read this file.
Until then you will have to Share/Export the photos to the desktop. You can then navigate to the desktop to use the photos (example: web uploading from online photo site)
If your application supports drag and drop, you can drag the photo from an open iPhoto Library window into your application.
For email you can also use the email icon within iPhoto to open a message with the highlighted photo attached.
You can also use spotlight to find images in an Album...
This is what I have done using Spotlight to find my images that are in iPhoto albums without opening iPhoto..
In iPhoto, select the album, then select all, go to Photos/batch change.
Change the comments to text. In the text field I put the name of the Album.
    Do this for each album.
    Close iPhoto.
Open Spotlight and put in the name of the Album ( you have to remember the names of the albums or have then written down)
In the spotlight search results. click on "show all"
Under "Images" click on the "xx more" to show all the images in the album.
Make sure you have it in icon view, the icon view box is the last one on the blue images line.
Now you can control click on the image to "reveal in finder", open in iPhoto or Mail, etc.
I am not sure if this is going to make you happy and it is a little more work, but you can find images in albums and even view them in a slideshow (by clicking the play arrow at the end of the Images highlighted blue line) using Spotlight, all without opening iPhoto.
One important thing to know is you can set up a graphic program to be an external editor (when you double click an image in the library} such as PhotoShop or PS Elements. You set up that within iPhoto Preferences. Just make sure you save the image flattened and with the same name. The edits will then be relected in iPhoto when you hit "save".

  • Unzipping multiple zips in same folder to ONE window...how?

I have numerous .zips in one folder and when I select all and double-click they open fine, but each to a separate window. In Tiger (Oh how I loved thee) all would appear unzipped in ONE single window instead of the current kaleidascopic mess. Any way around this? Thanks

  • I'm trying to access a Mac OSX xserve's shared folder from a windows xp pc

So I'm trying to access the Shared Folders on a Mac OSX Xserve Server. this server does not provide authentication or home folders, etc. Pretty much using it for network storage. I've been able to successfuly connect to the folders using Windows 7, but the Windows XP computers will not connect. I keep getting a "You might not have permission to this folder" etc dialog box popup.
This is my method of connection. Start -> Run -> \\1.1.1.1 -> Enter.  I see the folders. I double click on the folder icon to access the folder, i get a login dialog box. On the Windows 7 machine I typed in my LOCAL MACHINE'S username and password. Success! On the XP machine, I do the exact same thing and receive the error.
    please Help!
the Macs on my network (96% of users) have absolutely no problem connecting to the server using ⌘K in Finder

Try mapping the drive as normal and then see what happens.

  • Can I store referenced master files on a shared folder on a windows file server?

I have a windows file server where I have setup shared folders that my Macbook can access. Is it a supported configuration to keep my referenced master files on the windows share?

I hardly ever use the Bridge.  I mostly use the Bridges to work one groups of new image RAW to edit metadata and create ACR settings.  I don't use bridge features like collections or use the bridge to organize my image and I also don't use Lightroom.    I mostly use Photoshop and Window's File explorer with my Image files.  I have installed FastPictureViewer Codeg package to get thumbnails  for RAW and PSD files in a Window's dialog.   I don't like the delays introduced in workflows that are cause by the overhead requires for Bridge Cashes and Lighroom Databases.
However for you with 50 users sharing assets on network drives I would think you would need a library system above and beyond Bridge and Lightroom. A library system that provides access and version processes so users don't step on each others work.
If you want to use the bridge I do not believe it would be possible to use a shared cashed where multiple instances of the Bridge could concurrently maintain a common cache. I do not believe either Bridge or Lighroom design would have the locking protocols required for shared concurrent use.

A PC server is showing up in my Finder/Shared folder.  I don't know how it got there and I can't delete/trash it.  Can someone tell me how to eliminate it?

Yes, I have a wireless HP printer connected to the network.  Sigh.  Actually have two one is an Envy and the other is a Laserjet.  Thank you.  I guess that solves that
