'Shared Folder not Available'

Hi all.  In the last week or ten days, I can no longer access my desktop computer folders from my laptop.  I can access laptop folders from desktop.  I have:
(1) Checked my firewall settings and even tried accessing the desktop folders with Norton Internet Security 2009 disabled on both machines,  no go.
(2) I have gone to Linksys Forums and followed instructions in a post dated February 20, 2007 from 'Talbot', a Cisco engineer.
(3) I have disabled connection sharing and checked that 'Client for Microsoft Nerworks and File and Printer sharing is installed--it is.
(4) I have spoken to a Cisco tech who said it was probably a router problem (I doubt it, it's working fine).  But I did reset my modem and router, no go
I can access my desktop computer folders through Windows Explorer, but I bought NM so I could use it, not to have to work around it. I would appreciate your help in fixing this problem.  I did install the latest Microsoft updates (November 10 release), including KBs: 973704,975758, 973475, 973443, and 969947  
-My version of NM is 5.5..9195.0-Pure0
-OS is Windows XP, SP3
-My connection is a cable modem and I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router.
-My desktop connects with a cable and my laptop connects wirelessly
-I use Norton Internet Security 2009 as my firewall and anti-virus
-I use SpywareBlaster and Malwarebytes for anti-spyware/malware

It appears I'm not the only person having this problem.

I have tried this work around before. This was provided to me when I talked to one of their support reps with network magic. disregard the title of the article and follow the steps indicated. But you have to do this on all computers that's using network magic. After doing the steps in one computer, shut it down and repeat the same steps on the next computer until your done. After that boot up your computers one by one then see if that will help resolve the issue. It worked for me.

  • Still get 'Shared Folder Not Available'

    Hi all.  I posted a message around November 15, 2009 and never received any responses. See  http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Network_Magic&thread.id=1488   That was for my laptop and problem never resolved.  Now I have a netbook, same problem.  Both computers see the enabled folders on the desktop and I can access the folders on the laptop and netbook using Windows Explorer.  I can also access the laptop and netbook folders from the desktop using Network Magic.  But I can't access any desktop folders using Network Magic.  I get the dreaded 'Shared Folder Not Available' message.  I've checked out many threads here and through google search.  I've made the recommended configuration changes to Norton Internet Security.  I've disabled VPN software at the recommendation of the tech who installed the VPN.  I've contacted Pure Networks and submitted a ticket--was given standard things to try--nothing worked. 
    Does anyone have something else to try?  It seems a big waste to have spent $50 on software that doesn't work for my machines and whose technical support people don't seem to have a solution.  Please don't respond that it must be a setting in Norton--I've tried changing everything recommended. Norton is one of the most commonly used firewalls and anti-virus programs around.   I'm sure other Norton users are successfully using NM.  I will try contacting Pure Networks again.  Maybe a different tech will have a solution.

    Well, thecreator, I did provide the requested information the first time I posted in November.  If you go to the link I included in my current message, you will see that the information was provided or see extracted information below.     I also understand that no one may have a better answer than what's already been posted in the forum.  If the information I've provided isn't sufficient for a response, I guess I need to try Pure Networks support again.

  • SAPOsCol running but not working (shared memory not available)

    Dear Forum,
    We have just set new passwords for SAP AD users (incl SAPService<SID> and <SID>adm), after this restarted SAP instances and servers / clusters). Everything came up well and all services, incl SAPOsCol started up automatically with the new passwords.
    Everything works fine - only this morning i wanted to have a look in ST06 and the program tells me "SAPOSCOL not running? (shared memory not available).
    The service is running tho, would a restart of the service do any difference, and is there any possibility that a restart of the service on a live and running system would force a system restart? (i couldnt think of any, but I hate restarting services on a live running production system).
    Would it be an option to stop/start the collector from ST06?

    Hi,
    I'm using MaxDB Community Edition 7.6.06.10
    Now the second customer has the error
    -24700 Could not start DBM Server
    -24832 Shared memory not available
    -24744 Shared Memory from different platform Unknown (0x00) (expected WIN32, I386)
    Both installations worked fine over several weeks/months.
    What can I do?

    I was given this fix by SAP Support.
    In the directory X:\sapdb\data\wrk you will find two files SID.dbm.shm and SID.dbm.shi.
    Rename these files to have a .old extension and restart your DBM session.  These files will be recreated automatically.
    This can be done while the database is online.

    The saposcoll is always getting terminated with a error message "shared memory not available".We have tried all possible remedies but it was of no use, There is no version mismatch and and there is also one saposcoll service running on that host.The problem is coming after we have upgraded our system.
    Please suggest me some suitable notes or any solution for it as it is a production server.

    I suggest you to kindly go to OS level and restart the saposcol service and check if that works.
    <b>No values and/or problems with shared memory</b>
    Check whether saposcol belongs to user 'root' and whether the authorizations are correct: -rwsr-x---
    Because the values of saposcol must be visible for all R/3 systems/instances on a host, saposcol writes data in the shared memory segment with key 1002. This shared memory segment must not be changed (for example, by setting profile parameter ipc/shm_psize_1002). In all profiles, check whether the parameter ipc/shm_psize_1002 is set. If it is, this parameter must be removed from the profiles ---> Note 37537.

    I'm trying to configure Harvester in JDev 10.1.3.3 and as part of process i need to copy tools.xml text from Introspector folder to <JDEV_HOME>\jdev\system\Oracle Jdev 10.1.3.3 folder as per manual.
    But, I cant seee this folder at all. Can someone please help regarding this.

    Not sure why its not available in Jdev 11g, and 10.1.3 as well. But i found it in 10.1.3.3 version. Weird but issue resolved. Its available exactly mentioned in manual.

  • Folder Redirection - Create temp folder if folder not available

    I don't know if this is even possible, but I'm asking it anyway. 
    I'm setting up a group policy for folder redirection for our users in our department. However, due to the Patient Healthcare Information (PHI) and HIPAA law, I don't want to make these folders available offline. If the laptop is in the network, they can
    work on it without any problems, and all the files and folders are available to them no matter which workstation they log in to. But, as soon as I remove the workstation from the network all hell breaks loose. I'm only redirecting Desktop and Documents. Is
    there a way to create the folder redirection without offline availability and yet have the workstation create it's own desktop if the folder is not available?

  • Shared Folder not showing up, no option in preferences to "look for shared libraries"

    I have followed all of the instructions to set up sharing of my iTunes library with my daughters' computers and am unable to get it to work. The Shared folder is not present in iTunes and in the preferences menu, it says that sharing is on but no computers are connected. Is this a problem with an iTunes update?  My sharing has worked in the past, but hasn't worked since the latest update!

    To narrow down the problem, take the external drive and hook it up to different mac and then share it. Compare the results. If it works from the other mac it's a problem on your mac, if it doesn't then it's a problem on the removable drive.

    We use Windows SP1 with one folder from the User HomeDirectory set to be available offline.
    The problem we encounter is that when going from Offline to Online via VPN, there is a 2 minutes delay for the drive where the offline folder is located to be available again. Other drives mapped at VPN connection time are available immediately
    after we applied KB2705233. Only the drive that contains the folder that we make available offline has this delay issue.
    I found out KB2663418 but it does not apply as we have Windows 7 SP1. However the symptoms are the same:
    < This issue occurs because the client-side caching (CSC) interface tries to reconnect to the source before the network is actually available. This behavior causes the SMB cache to enter a negative state. In this situation, the CSC interface tries to
    reconnect to the source on the next 2-minute retry interval.>
    Does one know how to force a check of the connectivity or if there is another fix available ?

    Why KB2663418 didn't applied to your computer? It applied to
    Windows 7 Service Pack 1, when used with:
    Windows 7 Enterprise
    Windows 7 Professional
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Did you use Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium?  However, Windows 7 Home Basic and Premium does not support Offline Files.
    Thus please try that hotfix.

  • Shared Folder Not Showing Up In Remote Finder

    I'm trying to share a folder on a removable hard drive. While other shared folders appear in finder on remote machines this one does not. It appears as shared on the local machine, both in finder and in system preferences and as far as I know the permissions are set correctly. My firewall settings should be fine since I can access other shared folders from the same machine, but I'm stumped about why this isn't working.
    Any help would be much appreciated

  • Some Fonts in Windows Font folder not available in PSE8.

    I have discovered that there are a bunch of fonts in my Windows Font folder that just aren't showing up in PSE 8.  They seem to be a lot of the Open Type fonts (the ones with the "O" on the thumnail) although there are some of the Open Types available.
    Does anyone have any idea what is going on.  These are not Fonts that I have downloaded.  For instance, Arial is there but all the other versions of it in it's "Family" donh't show up in PSE.
    I'm using Windows XP.

    Are you saying that there are more fonts than are available in the style menu to the right of the font family pulldown menu? If so, how many fonts do you have installed on your computer?

    Using windows 7 OS. from start> open control panel>fonts.  For example: "AdobeFanHeitiStd-Bold.otf" is in fonts folder, but does not show up in photoshop list of fonts in "character" panel.  what can i do to show all fonts in the charater panel list?

    These are Unicode substitution fonts for Asian languages and all that. They'll only show up with options set accordingly in the Text palettes.
