Shared Folder, Permissions, Result Code -5000

I've put a Logic 7.2.3 (961.9) file into the Shared Folder for a friend to also work on. I've adjusted the permissions of the file to read and write in all available areas. As my friend accesses the file from the Shared Folder, from his account, and engages record in the transport, a message pops up stating:
"Insufficient access privileges for operation"
result code -5000
can anyone enlighten me?
iMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   intel core duo, 2 Gz processor, 2 Gz RAM

If the friend is recording using the Logic song file from the shared area, then the file has already been successfully read. More likely, is that the current path set to record files does not have write permission. So you have to make sure all paths that you are using have permissions to read - and some to write (like for recording). Beware that this could be dangerous; you may want your friend to recrod files to a different location.

    Hi,
I've been trying to solve this problem for a school my companey has set up. After some research and looking at a number of similar posts I tracked the problem down to loops that came with jam packs or with apps like soundtrack pro. These loops are located in /Library/audio/appleloops. If you give everyone read and write access to this folder and it items the loops seem to work.
I also noticed that once the loops were working agin GB had to convert the sample rate so it's possible that it's the sample rate on certain loops that causess the issue or prehaps the need to change the rate.
    Hope this helps.

    Result code = -5000 fix?

That error is a permissions error - your AppleLoops may not be readable to the system - see HangTime's answer here:

  • Shared folder permissions (again)

    Previous topic -> http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2745102&tstart=0
    So that went okay.
However, I noticed that the iTunes in the Shared folder had moved everything into /iTunes/iTunes media/Artist/ folders.
New files go directly there also.Tried to Organize library and it would go through the motions but would not actually do anything
In my user folder /Library/Preferences/, I found a bunch of temp files for com.apple.iTunes.plist.
Deleted those and it simply create new ones.
Shared/iTunes/ folder shows me as Read/Write and everyone else as *Read Only*.
Looking again and I was not able to change any filenames.
I booted from a SD! backup and repaired permissions on this drive but no help.

    This is /Users/Shared/iTunes.

  • Shared folder permissions exchange management shell

Hi, I have a shared folder where I use to make Exchange PSTs backups via Exchange managemnet Shell, what share and security permissions should that folder have so EMC can store in it?
Right now I have configured to all users full control, because not the domain administrator nor the domian admins group work

You need to grant read/write permission to the group Exchange Trusted Subsystem to the network share where you want to export or import mailboxes. If you don't grant this permission, you will receive an error message stating that Exchange is unable to
establish a connection to the PST file on the network share.

  • Archiving File on Shared Folder in Linux using java code

    Hi All,
I have a requirement wherein I have to ftp a file (Feed.txt) from windows FTP server to Linux machine1 and archive the same file (with timestamp suffixed on file name like Feed.txt_22April) on Linux Machine2. I am
trying to achieve this through java code. I am able to ftp the file(Feed.txt) from windows ftp server to Linux machine1 /opt/ftproot directory and archiving the same file under /opt/ftproot/archive directory of Linux
Machine1 with timestamp suffixed on file name.
My archiving requirement is still not achieved. So, for that I created a shared folder “/temp/shared” on Linux Machine2 and mounted the /temp/shared folder of Linux Machine2 on /opt/ftproot/archive folder of
    Linux Machine1 using following command:
    # mount LinuxMachine2: /temp/shared /opt/ftproot/archive
Note: I have given full permission on both the folders.
Logically, archiving the Feed.txt with timestamp in it name under /opt/ftproot/archive folder should create the file in /temp/shared folder of Linux Machine2. But instead of archiving the file on
/opt/ftproot/archive folder, it archive the file on /opt/ftproot folder.
In my java code, I have specified copyDir as “/opt/ftproot” and archiveDir as /opt/ftproot/archive”.

    - You are connecting to a ftp server. I am guessing you didn't write that.
    - Get a flexible ftp client, there are many but make sure it shows you the ftp result codes.
    - Figure out how and if the ftp server will do what you want.
If it does do what you want then ftp client will let you do the same thing.
If that ftp server doesn't allow you to do it then you must do one of the following
    - Find a different server
    - Change the requirements
    - Find a way to impose the requirements using a tool in addition to ftp like some command executed through telnet.

  • All files in a shared folder don't have permissions

I have two users on my mac and am having some issues with sharing files.  I created a shared folder and gave the other user read/write permissions.  When I log in as that user, the folder can be accessed, but some of the files in that folder cannot be accessed.  These are all photos, and for the most part I'm dropping them into the shared folder from iPhoto.
I tried it again by using the Public folder with the same result.  However, there isn't consistency with the actual files that don't have permission.  In other words, the shared folder I created may have a file that does not have permission, but that same file does have permission when I dropped it in the Public folder.  So it is totally random as to which files in the shared folder don't have permission to be accessed.
I also tried to simply drag the files to the other user.  Same result.
Can anybody help me with this?  I'm stumped as I thought once a folder was shared that all contents are accesible.

Sharing a folder does give others access to it, but it does not change the permissions of the files inside.  Other users can probably read everything, but they can't modify files that they do not own unless the owner of those files has changed the permissions to allow it, or other steps have been taken to provide additional access such as the use of an Access Control List (ACL).
Apple doesn't include a GUI utility for manipulating ACLs, so your choices are to use a third-party utility such as TinkerTool System (not free) or the Terminal application.  The Drop Box folder in your user's Public folder has an ACL entry that gives access to change just about everything on files that are dropped there, so a Terminal example that sets similar permissions for everyone (a particular user group can also be used) would be:
    1.  copy and paste the folowing into the Terminal window (there is a trailing space):
    chmod -R +a "everyone allow list,add_file,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,chown,file_inherit,directory_inherit"
    2.  drag the desired folder into the Terminal window (this copies the path)
    3.  press return
Note that ACL entries only work on items that have been created in the folder - not moved there - so you should use option drag to make a new copy in the shared folder.

  • Sharing files among different user accounts -- file/folder permissions?

I have two main user accounts that I switch between during the day (essentially a PERSONAL account and a WORK account). This allows me to keep separate Mail, iCal, etc -- as well as desktop applications and file organization. However, I am having some major issues with sharing data between the user accounts.
WHAT I WANT: A local drop box for shared communal files between these two primary users. Seems simple enough, right?
WHAT I DID: I created a subfolder in /Users/Shared/ called "COMMUNAL DROP BOX" and set the permissions to R/W for both my user accounts, and no access for the other accounts. However, when I copy files into this folder from my PERSONAL account -- it retains the file level permissions. For example, I grabbed some photos from my iPhone that I shot of a display for work -- I grabbed them off the phone and then dragged them into the drop box. They are in the shared folder, but the file perms are set to PERSONAL_ACCOUNT "Read & Write" and Everyone "No Access." There's no way I can continue to individually change every single file's permission -- how do I set it up to automatically match the folder, so that files like this are then readable by my work account?
    -Jason M.

On my machine I've created a directory(folder) in the /Users directory called localshare. Since the directory can have just one owner, I've made root own the folder.
    sudo mkdir /Users/localshare
Every user on my machine belongs to the group-Staff. I need to change the group class on the localshare directory that I've created.
    sudo chown :staff /Users/localshare
As a reference, I changed the traditional permissions to reflect my desired results and lock down the permissions some.
    sudo chmod 770 /Users/localshare
I have added an ACL on the localshare directory that allows the group staff to do anything within the directory- make file and directories, modify files that they do not owner, etc.
    sudo chmod +ai "staff allow list,addfile,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,file_inherit,directoryinherit" /Users/localshare
This works well for me with one issue. Files or folders must be copied to the localshare directory. They cannot be moved.

  • Not allowed to move (only copy) files within Shared Folder (yes, permissions are set to Read/Write)

I have moved my media (Music, Movies, Pictures) to the Users/Shared folder.  As I'm doing some cleanup in these folders, I am trying to move several folders/files at once, all within the same Shared folder.  I have confirmed that the permissions settings under "Get Info" are set to "Read/Write" and I have verified and repaired permissions with Disk Utility.  However, every move I try to do is a copy.  I have tried the Command-Drag method, but I'm still left with the green plus sign indicating a copy.
On smaller files/folders, this wouldn't matter so much as I would copy, then just delete the original.  But I'm dealing with many, many gigs of music and my HD doesn't have space for holding copies, even if the originals will be deleted.
Very frustrating to have to spend so much time to figure out what would seem to be a very basic file management feature.
I've searched and read and searched some more, but I'm stuck.  Thanks to any who can help.

  • Cannot access a shared folder Error code: 0x80070035

    Hello Experts,
I have been working on this issue for like three days without a solution. I am truly desperate.
My company just purchased a new Cloud Server that we will use as our development environment for a software project. In order for all the developers (which are all over the US) to access the development environment, we need to have a few shared folders on
    that new server.
As soon as we got the server I did the following:
    1) Installed Active Directory
    2) Created a directory and made it shared - yes IT IS shared.
    3) I created a few new users on the new active directory domain
    THE PROBLEM:
I can't access the shared directory.
Other developers have been successful in connecting to the shared folder (so the share is working) - all except me.
when I open explorer and type \\IPADDRESS\SHAREDFOLDER instead I get this error (I am not even asked for credentials)
    Network Error
    Windows cannot access \\IPADDRESS\SHAREDFOLDER
    Error code: 0x80070035
The network path was not found.
    Things I have already tried:
    a) Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP - on all adapters - still did not help
    b) Disable IPv6 - I am not sure how to check if it truly disabled
    c) Turned off all firewalls - did not help
    d) Mapping a Drive using different credentials - I just get asked for credentials over and over
    e) Ping - yes I can see the server
    f) My credentials are correct because I can Remote Desktop with the credentials with no problem ( I am administrator)
    My Machine:
    Brand New Asus G Series
    Windows 7 Home Edition
    Any ideas?
    Sorcerdon

In my case it was that the OU that my system was in did not have firewall rules for network file and printer sharing enabled. I enabled all of the rules for Domain policy and that fixed it.
I noticed a lot of comments about turning off the firewall not working. I can't be 100% sure, but in my experience with Server 2008 and Windows 7, if you want to configure a service that uses the network the base filter engine and the firewall HAVE to be
turned on while you configure. You can turn the firewall off after configuration, but they have to be active during configuration.
    Good luck!

  • How do you get a new file in a shared folder to inherit permissions

I have a shared folder that I share with a co-worker and having trouble with the permissions for new files/folders.
When he creates a new file or new folder, the permissions for that file/folder are set as read only for myself. The parent shared folder is set at "Read/Write" for both of us.
Is it possible to control the permissions for new files/folders?

Actually, that property used to go in the entry for that sharepoint in the "NetInfo" database, and really only worked properly when 'afpuse_parentowner' was also set. The .plist file controls the behaviour of the afp server as a whole, not that of individual share points.
I'm not sure what the "DirectoryService" equivalent is - a lot of the things have similar names but differ in "case", but some things are completely different or absent.
Unfortunately, I'm not equipped to test these things myself but changes can be made using 'dscl', or possibly by editing the flat files directly in a manner similar to what is described here:

  • Windows 2008 R2 cross domain shared/security folder permissions

I have a Windows 2008 R2 server located in the example.com domain.  I have a folder that's shared out and it needs to be accessed by a group of machines that are not in the same domain, they are part of a different domain.
I made sure to give Everyone FULL Share and FULL NTFS Security permissions but that didn't make any difference.  This used to work fine on Windows 2003 server.  Something must have changed with the way that Windows 2008 handles share/security permissions.
A temporary workaround is to create a local user on the Windows 2008 R2 server and have the users access the share using those credentials.
I need it to work without asking the users for any credentials.

    Hi,
Please enable Guest account, assign Everyone group the permission to access the sharing folder and then add the Anonymous SID to the Everyone access
    token.
To enable anonymous access on a local workstation or server computer
    1.Open Local Security Settings. Click
    Start, click Control Panel, double-click
Administrative Tools, and then double-click Local Security Policy.
2.In the console tree, double-click Local Policies, and then click
    Security Options.
    3.In the details pane, right-click
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users, and then click
    Properties.
4.On the Local Security Settings tab, click
    Enabled, and then click OK.

  • Folder permissions for sharing between users on the same machine

    Hello,
I have several accounts on my MacBook and I want to keep some files private and some files shared with full permissions for everyone.
OS X standard behavior for the default Users/Shared folder is that everyone has read/write access to the folder, but if you create a new file there, then only the creating user has write access to that file.
I want to change that folder's behavior so that newly created files can be modified by everyone on default.
    How would I do that?
    Thanks.

Thanks, your answer helped me a lot. I found an even simpler method which doesn't require any extra applications.
Open console and navigate to the directory where your share directory is located, e.g. /Users/Share/
create the desired folder:  mkdir public
set acl permissions for each user with: chmod +a "username1 allow flag1,flag2, ....." public/
    check permissions with: ls -le
    Example:
chmod +a "dev allow list, add_file, search, delete, add_subdirectory, delete_child, readattr, writeattr, readextattr, writeextattr, readsecurity, writesecurity, chown, file_inherit, directory_inherit" public/
This will give the user dev full access to that folder. Any file or directory created inside that folder by the user dev will also inherit the permissions of that folder.
Also, the advanced permissions override any other permissions. you can test that my making that folder inaccessible with chmod oga-rwx public/ and dev will still be able to access it because of the acl permissions.
    exactly how i wanted it.

  • File and folder sharing and permissions.

Many times when we copy files or folders to another mac computer, their permissions change, and many times the new user can not open it, until the file or folder permissions are changed. It start happen with MacOX 10.5, and still is happening with 10.7, with 10.5 we were waiting for the patch, but it never arrived, then I think is not a mistake for apple software developers??. But how can I solve this issue? the people need to interchage files and folders by USB, or network, and need to work as soon as possible with that materials and not loose time changing permissions. Someone knows what can I do to solve it?

Did you log out of one account and into the other or just used Fast user switching?
Is the permissions set to anyone?
