Unchecking "Shared Hyperlink Destination" causes InDesign CS5.5 to crash

This occurs on multiple Macs (running either Leopard or Snow Leopard) in our office. The links are connected to conditional text in InCopy. Here's the scenario:
1) Open the InDesign document and select the linked text.
2) Get a dialog box: "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?" Click "Yes."
3) Copy the text of the link, right-click and select "New Hyperlink."
4) In the "New Hyperlink" window, paste in the text of the URL (leaving in the http://).
5) Uncheck "Shared Hyperlink Destination." InDesign immediately crashes.
I've been told by our designers that you have to uncheck "Shared Hyperlink Destination" to prevent changes to all of the other related links in the document. I don't work with InDesign on a regular basis and have very limited knowledge of InCopy. I tested the current version of InDesign (7.5.3) on my Mac and the same crash occurred.

Thanks to you both. Excuse my ignorance - I presumed that 7.5.3 was a paid-for-upgrade to Creative Suite 6 (or higher?!)... I thought I had the Updater set to prompt me for updates, but I obviously didn't.
Anyhow - I've since run the updater, but the crash happens the same way. Here's the new crash report.

Hopefully there's something of use in this - I really don't want to have to manually do this: I have nearly 200 film titles that need to be listed in alphabetical order with their respective page number, and the TOC feature would be the perfect solution if it actually worked...

Script to uncheck "Shared Hyperlink Destination" in urls

Is there a script or an automated way to make all hyperlinks not be "Shared Hyperlink Destination". I have 250+ hyperlinks that are shared, but are causing problems when i copy them to a new document.
Is there a preference somewhere to set it up so it doesn't happen in the future?

This Applescript deletes all of the hyperlinks:

What exactly is a shared hyperlink destination?

Well, nothing in the documentation explains what a "shared hyperlink destination" actually is. The very name itself ("shared hyperlink destination") implies that you've got two separate links in your document both pointing to, say, adobe.com (the destination). Those two links 'share' the same destination (= adobe.com).
But, Sandee says a "Shared Destination":
"creates a link to a previously defined hyperlink"
i.e. it creates a link to a link?
Did she mean to say:
"creates a link to a previously defined hyperlink source"? or
"creates a link to a previously defined hyperlink destination"?

Shared Hyperlink Destinations Unpleasantness

Where I work, we've upgraded from CS1 to CS6.
We've created many newsletters in InDesign (40+ pages each; 1 per month) that have hyperlinks.
Working with the Hyperlinks and Hyperlink Destinations, while rather cumbersome before, was manageable.
However, in CS6 an aspect of it makes them unworkable.
First off, we're working in a new newsletter that has essentially been opened and converted from a previous month's CS1 version to the new CS6. It carries forward all the previous hyperlinks, naturally. However, InDesign treats all of these as "shared" hyperlinks.
So, when I have to troubleshoot a link, I can straight up delete the link and create a new, unshared URL-type link.
No real problem, except having to write down where the link goes and retype it into the new link creation dialog, since I can't select the original and copy & paste it.
However, if I accidentally forget to avoid opening Hyperlink Destinations like the plague, then all the Destinations created previously in CS1 will be accessed in order to open that pallet. Since all "shared" Destinations are stored in whatever original document they were made in apparently, that means InDesign will open and convert effectively every single CS1 INDD that still shares a link in common or that still has a Destination listed in the palette ... or something.
This process takes about 1 hour (or more) and effectively hangs InDesign for me. I can not cancel the process (that I've found yet); I can not close the palette before it's refreshed and processed every single Destination; I have to manually hit Esc or click cancel on every single Destination as it tries opening it if I wish to try short-circuiting the process (which means I'll still have to sit there for at least half an hour, since there's so much time between each dialog that pops up).
I'm not the one who generally works in the file doing all the design work; I'm the one who does the processing for creating the PDF for the web. I'm willing to understand and work with InDesign to a fuller extent of its capabilities, but the actual designers are generally as ignorant as they can get away with about InDesign's tools and innards.
They're the ones that work with and create the links (until there's a problem, then it's me); and getting them to clean up their methods or to at least only create "unshared" hyperlinks going forward is pretty much impossible.
If somebody doesn't know a way to get around this problem, then I have a request that an update to InDesign is implemented to accomplish any of several things:
• All "old" Hyperlink Destinations are not created as shared ones, thereby avoiding InDesign's desire to open and convert all the old INDD files.
• All shared Destinations are stored elsewhere, not in their original INDD (or whatever is going on with them right now).
• Implement a method to short-circuit this update process (like hitting Esc exits the opening of the Hyperlink Destinations palette, or prevents the action if I masochistically try selecting and editing a Hyperlink Destination once it opens, etc).
Thank you, especially if there's any help getting around the problem short of me deleting all Hyperlink Destinations (once I get the palette open and sitting still again) to force the designers to start over.

Which one are you doing?
1) If you want a link from a webpage to a PDF, the link must be in the
webpage.
2) If you want a link from a PDF to a webpage, the link must be in the PDF.
I can help you with #2. I could probably help you with #1 too, but I
don't think I would use Indesign.

Does simple file and folder sharing on an iMac work with OSX Server?

I wonder if I should install OSX Server on an iMac wher several users work on the same files and folders.
My question - before I do something I might regret:
Does simple file and folder sharing on an iMac within several users really work with the help of OSX Server?
All I want to be able to do:
Admin creates a new folder1 and gives it read- and write access for user1 and user2.
User1 creates a subfolder1 in folder1, and a document1 in subfolder1.
User2 edits document1. Later Admin edits document1.
All these simple editing of files and folders (and subfolders) within a main folder should be possible. This is not possible now.
Is everything clear? I'm not a network specialist or something, I just want to give some co-workers access to some data on my computer without problems.

So what you need are recursive permissions.
I suggest you create a group and add user1 and user2 to that group. You can name that group whatever you want, but for now i will call it FSUsers
Execute this in terminal. Replace FSUsers with your new group
sudo chmod -R +a "FSUsers allow list,add_file,search,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextat tr,writeextattr,readsecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit" /Users/Shared/*
Replace /Users/Shared with the location of your shared folder. Make sure you keep the /* at the end (this allows all subfolders and files to get the same permissions.
If you need to add people to the share just add them to the FSUsers group, the FSUsers group should should also be allowed in the sharing preferences.

Using script language or CS SDK to work with DPS

Hello,
I was wondering if there is any way to access the overlay creator by script (or even better...the folio producer) via some kind of API...
In other word, is there a way to write code (i'm actually working with CS SDK and extension builder in flash builder to build extensions for CS5.5) that can set video properties (in the overlay creator) of a video frame, or even set automaticly an asset of picture for a slideshow,
And if i want to generate a .folio, can i make it using a script ?
Question is not how, but if it's possible at all for now.
If not, is there any plan to add script support for dps in the future ?

As for overlay creator: it's possible to script not overlay creator, but overlays.

In short, properties of overlay objects are stored as KEY/VALUE labels, so you can use
insertLabel() to set/modify them and simulate overlay creator panel.
The list of properties can be found by exporting overlay as a snippet and examining XML file

Scrolling a PDF in Preview: NOW WORKS With 10.9.2! Yeah!

Like the title says, I can now scroll with the mouse scroll wheel in all pdfs. Since 10.9.0 this has been broken for me with many, many pdfs. I'm happy to see that after 6 months or so that this problem is now fixed with 10.9.2.

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last version of Firefox that works on OS X 10.3.9

Hyperlink don't work with "download a document"

I use iWeb 2006. My web site <www.xicro.it> have a link with a document to download. This kind of hyperlink don't work on line, but it work when you check the site in local host.

You can put the file which you want people to be able to download in a zip. Then put a link on your website to that zip file (normal link) and as soon as you click on the link the zip will download.

Don't the albums show at all?
Are you signed in with the same Apple ID that you used with iCloud before? And are you currently browsing the System Photos Library? Only one Photos library, enabled as the System Photos library can sync with iCloud.
For me it helped to disable iCloud Photo sharing in the System Preferences > iCloud > Photos > Options
and in the Photos. app Preferences < iCloud.
Then restart the Mac and enable the same Preferences again.
And wait.
The Shared albums came slowly back and were all back after one day.

Is there any need for a 1536 x 2048 folio anymore? Do they even work with DPS v32?

So I just received a gig from a client to design their new magazine issue using their provided back issue indd DPS files (CS6), along with their new content from the latest print edition that will fill these articles. However, the previous DPS documents were built using 1536 x 2048 pixel (vertical orientation) pages. Is there even a use for this folio size anymore? And would it even work with Apple and Google Play and the latest folio buider?
I recall in 2012, I had to build two renditions during the iPad1 to retina transition, so it could be read on both devices. But I thought Adobe soon abandoned the need for two renditions and went with just the 1024 pixels. I've only worked with 1024 since with all my other clients. Is this correct thinking? Do I need to convert these files to 1024? I'm guessing so, but I don't want to just guess.
The other thing I wonder is if Apple had approved their back issue on 2048 pixels, would it mean a re-submission the new folio using 1024 px height? We have to update the App to iOS 8 anyway, so I just need to be sure I'm working with the folio size.
Can I assume the v32.2 folio builder is solid enough to run with at this time? Hoping one folio will work with both storefronts (google play and Apple) without any glitches/scaling issues.

I think I'll advise my client to convert their current 2048 pixel folio to 1024 pixel height. Then have that 1024 build approved by Apple. Then push my new issue content into the approved App shell. The only time I needed a 2048 rendition is when the new retina iPads came out (mid-2012), and we wanted to take full advantage of the resolution. We also used a 1024 rendition for the iPad1s.
I suspect their 2048 folio is what is making their App in Content Viewer crash. Also, they didn't have a V or H in the filenames, which is what I was trained to do with naming each of my articles, so perhaps that's what's making it crash? I was surprised it would even upload/recognize an article without the V or H in the filename.
Does this sound like possible solution to fix the crashing? The other thing I noticed is that they didn't package their files with fonts and links for each article like I would (They had 20 indd article docs in one issue folder, then all images for all articles were in one links folder (named images, not links. Another suspect. Does Adobe prefer "Links" for the assets?).
If I could solve their crashing problem, I'd be their rock star.

Overflow: visible now working with textarea

Hi, I'm trying to resolve an issue where I cannot get the
Overflow: visible to work with textareas.
We're working on several sites that have a user-defined
description field, where the description appears in a textarea. A
textarea was used so line breaks will be properly displayed.
Problem is, even when using Overflow: visible property, it
will not overflow.

I think it's set to "Scroll" right now - but when testing
locally with Visible, it does not work.
I'm open to suggestions - I tried the same with a Div layer

ps - Forgot to mention that it will work in Ie7 if I remove
the Doctype from the page - but will that affect the site
negatively, or make it not work in certain browsers?

Am still in the early stages of learning php.
To display line breaks from data queried from a database, you
can use the
inbuilt PHP function nl2br
Using nl2br to convert line breaks to <br> tags would
be a better and more
efficient way to show the description field output. And
ofcourse you
wouldn't need to place the output in a textarea.

Shared music won't work with upgrade

after installing the itunes update i (along with other friends) are all having this problem. the shared music folder is showing with the playlists available but when you try to listen to their playlists it just brings up your own playlist. all of the shared music that i'm trying to listen to are lists that have been working up until i installed the latest version. if anybody else is having this problem and has found a way to fix it could you please help me.

Chapters now working with all export options

iMovie '09 chapters used to work only with Share > iDVD. Don't know when it has been changed, but it appears that Apple has quietly improved the feature and chapters are now transfered with all export options (Apple presets and Export using Quicktime). I guess it happened with Snow Leopard.
So now it's possible to create higher quality DVDs with chapters. iDVD preset scales all videos to 960x540 (in case of 16:9) in interim file. Then iDVD has to scale it to correct NTSC or PAL size, and at least in case of PAL the output isn't very nice. There are aliasing artifacts, as vertically 540 lines have to be upscaled to 576 lines. Now it's possible with Export using Quicktime to output the video from iMovie in correct frame size with chapters and make DVDs with much better quality from that.
With SD source material you still lose a field, but from HD it's now easier to get higher quality DVDs. iMovie scales progressive video very well. From 720P content iMovie output in both 960x540 and 1024x576 sizes is really good, but iDVD can't scale the first one so well.

If you are using it and having issues, you should be posting in -> developer.apple.com forums per the Apple Non-Disclosue Agreement you agreed to, or filing a bug report.
