Shared Ipad

My wife and I share an ipad. Can we BOTH have email account in iCloud (i.e. BOTH have our contacts, mail etc transfer over)

Let's say there's a family with 5 people and each of those 5 people have two e-mail addresses...you can add all 10 accounts to the mail app...but every one of those 5 people will have access to every one of those 10 accounts.
there'a difference between multiple e-mails and user accounts. A user account, if you're used to PC's, let's say Mary signs into her account but she can't see what Susan, Fred, Ginger and John have on their accounts. It's like the computer is divvied up into 5 different versions of the computer with one not having access to the other 4 parts unless they know the password.
The iPad is a single user device and there's no way to lock off any part of the device from anyone that picks it up. If you know the passcode you have access to everything on the ipad.

  • Is there an app to allow users to enter their name on a shared iPad to track who used it?

We have a pool of iPad 2 devices running iOS 7.0.4 used in a business environment. This pool of shared iPads is distributed and shared between multiple users. I would like better accountability of each iPad as they are being taken/used by employees. Is there an app that will store locally, email, or iMessage who used the iPad? It should prompt for a name or other ID each time they turn on the iPad or after X minutes of inactivity.

We use the AirWatch MDM.  It has a multi-user device check in and check out capability which is what you want.  One solution for you would be to implement an MDM.

  • How do I link mine and my wifes iphones, and our shared ipad together?

I have an iphone for work, and my wife and I have a shared ipad at home.  Both currently run imessage and icloud under my apple id.  I had to turn my iphone imessaging off though to prevent seeing her conversations with family from out ipad while I was at work.  I previously had her email loaded as a secondary email to mine and I think this is how it worked.  Now, she has her own iphone.  We had to create her own apple id for this, and I no longer seem to be able to link her email to my ipads icloud and imessaging, I guess as it is used with her phone.  Now I'm stuck with what I need to do for the three devices to communicate, but for her to not get my work messages and me to not get her family messages.  Does the ipad need it's own id?  Do I need to tick or untick certain things in my "Reached by email at" or "Start new conversations from" menus?

I just know how to keep separeted: create different accounts, or turn "contacts" off, on iCloud settings in one of the iPhones.

  • Authentication for Shared iPad

I have a retail cusotmer that is interested in using shared iPads for thier store employees and securing the environment with ISE.  Is there a way to authenticate both the device (certificate) and the user (AD username / pw)?
My understanding is that this is the concept behind EAP-Chaining available in AnyConnect 3.1.  Will this feature be implemented in AnyConnect 2.x for mobile devices?
Any alternative suggestions on solving the business use-case would be appreciated too!

Cisco ISE  integrated with wireless LAN controllers (WLCs) can provide profiling  mechanisms of mobile devices such as Apple iDevices (iPhone, iPad, and  iPod), Android-based smartphones, and others. For 802.1X users, Cisco  ISE can provide the same level of services such as profiling and posture  scanning. Guest services on Cisco ISE can also be integrated with the  Cisco WLC by redirecting web authentication requests to Cisco ISE for  authentication.

  • Shared iPads on a cart -- disable all device security?

We have a bunch of "iPad 2" that will be shared out on a cart to many different students, and wiped regularly using the Apple Configurator.
How do I disable the passcode lock so that none is in effect, and no one can enable it?
I see a policy for passcodes in the Configurator, but nothing that clearly states "disable and prevent passcodes".

Old thread, but I would just like to reply that THIS DOES NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED.
When a student sets a passcode on a Supervised ipad, the passcode is NOT automatically removed when the device is reconnected to Configurator. Instead it says something like "could not apply policy" and the passcode is not removed.
The only solution I have found is to:
       - Unsupervise the device - wipes the device, reinstalls iOS -- takes about 30 minutes
       - Re-supervise the device - reinstalls Apps and policies -- takes about 30-45 minutes depending on gigabytes used
So actually a student taking 10 seconds to install a passcode that can't be disabled, wastes an hour of time or more, for the school staff person whose job it is to keep the shared iPads working.

  • Apple ID on shared iPad

Took the plunge and bought an iPad air2, my first foray into iPad ownership.
So far great, but I'm confused on what to do about Apple ID. Its a shared iPad with the Mrs, we dont really want each other's pics and messages popping up on it so we've not entered either of our id's. That said I would like to have some of my apps on it.
Should I create a new I'd for the iPad?
Thanks for any help in advance!

  • How to manage 2 iPhones one iTunes account and a shared iPad on iCloud?

My wife and I both have iPhones with separate contact lists but share the same iTunes account. To complicate matters further we also have a shared 'Family iPad'. I have updated my iPhone and iPad to iOS 5 and iCloud. I am unsure what will happen when I update her phone to iOS 5 and iCloud? Will it replace one of our contact list with the others or will it merge the lists resulting in lots of duplicates on both our contact lists? To be honest I'm happy to share calendars, photos, music etc.. But don't want to wipe one of our contact lists. Any advice on how I can manage this going forward so we can both use our iPhones but share the iPad?

I updated iOS 5 to my own phone and my iPad. When I updated it on my wife's phone I made sure I selected for it not to sync contacts, calendars etc... With iCloud when asked during install. once it was installed on my wife's phone I then went into settings and turned on the each thing individually that we wanted to share ie it's useful when she adds a calendar date that it appears on all our devices. However, I left off syncing her contacts with iCloud so we retain separate contacts. Problem is that with you iMessage with people from the iPad it goes to both her phone and mine? Think it may be time for a genius appointment.

  • Sharing iPad Apps

    Good morning,
I am a teacher and have recently purchased an iPad for school use. Our question is when we purchase more iPads, how can we share apps so that we do not have to purchase multiple copies of the same app. Again, I am talking about apps for educational (nonprofit) use.
    Thanks for your input.

    Here are the rules:
MAC APP STORE PRODUCT USAGE RULES
Except as otherwise set forth herein,
You may download and use an application from the Mac App Store (“Mac App Store Product”) for personal, non-commercial use on any Apple-branded products running Mac OS X that you own or control (“Mac Product”).
(ii) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download a Mac App Store Product for use either (a) by a single individual on each of the Mac Product(s) that you own or control, or (b) by multiple individuals on a single shared Mac Product that you own or control. For example, a single employee may use a Mac App Store Product on both the employee’s desktop Mac Product and laptop Mac Product, or multiple students may serially use the Product on a single Mac Product located at a resource center or library.
(iii) Use may require sign-in with the Apple ID used to download the Mac App Store Product from the Mac App Store. Mac App Store Products can be updated through the Mac App Store only.
    APP STORE PRODUCT USAGE RULES
You may download and sync a Product for personal, noncommercial use on any Apple-branded products running iOS (“iOS Product”) you own or control.
(ii) If you are a commercial enterprise or educational institution, you may download and sync a Product for use by either (a) a single individual on one or more iOS Product you own or control or (b) multiple individuals, on a single shared iOS Product you own or control. For example, a single employee may use the Product on both the employee's iPhone and iPad, or multiple students may serially use the Product on a single iPad located at a resource center or library.
(iii) You shall be able to store App Store Products from up to five different Accounts at a time on compatible iOS Products.
(iv) You shall be able to manually sync App Store Products from at least one iTunes-authorized device to iOS Products that have manual sync mode, provided that the App Store Product is associated with an Account on the primary iTunes-authorized device, where the primary iTunes-authorized device is the one that was first synced with the iOS Product or the one that you subsequently designate as primary using the iTunes application.
    Above from:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE
I interpret the above to say you have to purchase multiple apps for multiple iPads unless all the iPads are used by one individual. You interpretation may vary.

  • ITunes Home Sharing iPad Icons?

Not really a question. . . but does anyone know if it's possible to add a 'cover' to your specifici shared libraries for iPad search? Where I may only have 2, one can asume that if you had multiple it would be much easier to find the one you're looking for if they had specific covers.
Does anyone know if this is possible (without JBing) and how to?

That's a very good question, I've been wondering about that myself. The default icons really do look like placeholders.

  • Managing Shared iPads and iPod Touches for different Departments

What would be the best way to manage multiple iPads used for different departments in an educational setting.  I work in an educational setting and have recently purchased three iPads and 5 iPod touches for the sharing of four different departments each having both common and  different uses and app desires?  What are some best practices for managing accounts and workflow? Ex;  Workflow for updating, syncing and maintenance?  What about credit card accounts, does each iPad profile need to have a credit card account attached to it?  What questions do we need to think in terms of creating a standard build without compromising the individual needs that each department may want to have on the iPads.  Any advice would really help?

    Hi Carolina,
I too would love to know how to do this. I think you can manage multiple ipads/ipods from one computer, but don't know whether you can actually have different setups for apps on various ones.
If you get any answers, would you please share with me?
    regards,
    Rob

  • Husband and Wife sharing iPad; possible to have two accounts w / separate logins? (or two separate email accounts using native apps)

Each of us wants to check email, have our own bookmarks, own apps, etc.
Logging in and out of certain apps like email seems like it would be a hassle, especially for my wife. Email is probably the biggie here, but web browsing is also a potential issue.
We have our Mac set up like this, and was hoping there was some type of "switch user" feature on the iPad so we wouldn't delay logins (when you open the cover) but we would be able to each have our own "look and feel" to the device.
Seems like a no-brainer, but have done some searching and sounds like this is a no-go. Workarounds are probably not going to work as my partner is not technically inclined.
At the very least, we'd like to both be able to check email using the native app (without a lot of fussing to log in / out, typing long passwords etc).
    Possible?

    Thanks.
Privacy is not the issue, rather the issue is ease of use and keeping a healthy marriage. She hates it when I change the settings (or background image, etc etc) and I hate not being able to customize the user experience to fit my needs.
We do share a laptop and use two separate user accounts. I'm very surprised that multi-user capability is not built into iOS. Bummer. Kindle is getting toasted in the press for this. Seems iPad is no better.

  • Sharing iPad issues with app store

My daughter and I share an iPad. Each time I try to install an app her account id appears and won't allow me to sign in. Please tell me how to avoid the preset id from appearing.

    There is no "preset" ID.
The ID is whichever ID is signed into the store.
Settings > Store, tap the ID, then Sign out and Sign in with the account you want.

  • Home Sharing Purchased Applications between 2 Different Ipads

By using the Home Sharing feature I have shared Ipad applications between my Ipad and my wifes's Ipad. The first app was a purchased app and it works fine on both Ipads. However, when I shared other purchased apps they do not load when they are selected on the Ipad. Can someone confirm if you are suppose to be able to share purchased apps and if so why they will not launch when selected on the receiving Ipad?

My wife and I have two ipads and share an itunes account. I beleive that is the "supported" method of doing it. You are purchasing the app, not for use on one device, but on all your devices.
This allows you to upgrade and keep all purchased apps on the next device.
We pick and choose, but can have the same apps across both ipads wihout problems this way.
We have not attempted the Home sharing method as of yet.
