Shared Items in Finder??

Hi
Ive noticed seven shared iMac items in Finder, Ive no idea what they r or how to remove them. See attached file. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Baz

You do reboot or somehow restart when you are on your different network, right?
I suggest going to System Preferences (under the Apple logo in the menu bar), choose the "General" tab, and check "Close windows when quitting an application."

    Be sure Safari does not have the Block Pop-Up Windows preference set.
    Where I work now there are several unencrypted VLANs that require authentication, and Safari promptly pops up a window for me to register every time.

  • Strange Items Under Shared Devices In Finder Side Bar

    I have file sharing on for both my lap top and imac. Each shows up under Shared in the finder side bar. And I am able to connect to either one if I click on them. However two other devices show up as well. These two devices do not exist. When I use "Get Info" for them it indicates they are PC servers. I don't have any such thing. One of the items actually has a hyphenated version of my base station name. If I click on that one it says "connection failed". If I click on the other one it says "connected as guest" but nothing shows up in the window.
    Is there anyway to delete these items/devices or at least keep them from showing up? And why are they showing at all?

    I appreciate you taking the time to look. My 3 macs are now displaying only other Leopard computers. The strange ones have disappeared. One strange listing did look like my airport express base station. I have a 2nd express airport which servers to play my itunes. I, also, have two PCs on a Linksys wireless network and a wireless printer on my airport network.
    Have no idea why the strange additions have disappeared. In an attempt to get them to disappear, I did shut down & restart each computer (Macs & PCs), unplugged and replugged both express airports, turned off then on the printer, and unplugged and replugged the linksys wireless router connected to my DSL modem. My goal was to isolate the equipment causing the strange listings. No luck. Could only modify the strange listing by totally taking down the wireless network at the DSL modem. Then, after returning from working at a client's; everything looked normal. ?????

  • Finder Sider Side Bar - "Shared" Items Keeps Refreshing

    I have an iMac where the Finder side bar "Shared" Items (other Macs on the LAN and a Time Capsule) keep refreshing. In other words, it disappears for a split second and then reappears every 120 seconds or so. Bonjour refresh, me thinks. This happens on both ethernet and WiFi.
    I have replaced the Time Capsule - at first thinking this was the issue. I have also removed the sidebar.plist file. Both with no success.
    Any thoughts? Search criteria turned up little.

  • Can't get Shared items to appear in Sidebar

    Up until yesterday I have been screen sharing two computers on my network. I would go to the "SHARED" category in the Finder Sidebar and select the other computer. Now I can no longer see the "SHARED" category.
    I have gone to the Sharing item in the System Preferences and reset the permissions, etc in the File Sharing and Screen Sharing categories.
    Still no luck!

    You shouldn't need to reset permissions. If it is not showing, try turning off file/screen sharing, and then turn it back on. Permissions are not going to affect the share showing you your sidebar.

  • Duplicate Shared Items in Sidebar

    Hi:
    Weird one.  Suddenly all the shared items in my sidebar are doubled.  I have Capsule and Capsule (2), NashServer and NashServer (2), etc.  Deleting the finder prefs dosn't fix it.  Flushing caches does nothing.  That is about the extent of my skill set.  Anybody have any further ideas?

    Solved this.  It wasn't an Apple problem.  Please disregard.

  • Final Cut Pro 10.1.2 update problem: shared items all deleted.

    I upgraded from Final Cut Pro 10.1.1 today to 10.1.2. I've been working with 10.1.1 for a few weeks without problems and sharing videos. After the upgrade to 10.1.2 all the shared items that had been held within the "Shared items" folders have vanished and I cannot find them anywhere! Has anyone else had this problem?

    Sounds like a rudimentary question but how do you roll back to teh previous version?
    You would need to restore from a system back-up.

    Change your App Store Preferences so that you make the decision about what gets updated and when.

  • How to remove a computer from my shared folder in Finder?

    Just purchased a new iMac. After setting up Wi-Fi network connection, from DSL, now have a unknown computer listed within the shared folder in Finder. Have no idea who this is, but want to remove it. How?

    Hi Vonni,
    Often people will borrow, piggyback, a network without meaning to do harm. They just want a free internet connection. That being said, would you trust a stranger to plug their computer into your network? The best thing for you to do is read the manual that came with your router and find out how to turn on WPA encryption. Sometimes the router companies have support lines. After this is done, it means that anyone who uses your wireless connection will have to have your network name (AKA "SSID") and password. If you give them the password, they can use your network connection. If not, then they can't. That includes friends and family, when they are at your house for a visit. Giving them the WPA wireless password won't give them access to your computer (unless you use the same password - a bad idea), it will just give them access to your network.
    There's no way that I know of to eliminate a computer from your Shared Folder area. That said, it also doesn't mean that they have access to your computer. It might actually mean that you have access to theirs!
    To see what they have access to, go to the Apple menu at the top left corner of the screen and start System Preferences. Inside there, you will see "Sharing". If you uncheck all of the boxes in there, there is little that anyone could do.

  • Get-Item: Cannot find path ' ' because it does not exist. While running Powershell script.

    I am trying to run a PowerShell script to upload files into a SharePoint site in an Azure environment...the script works fine on my local machine, but every time I run it in Azure (remotely), I get errors. Here is what my simple script looks like...
    if ( (Get-PSSnapin -Name Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue) -eq $null )
    Write-Host "Loading Sharepoint Module "
    [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SharePoint")
    Add-PSSnapin -Name Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell
    if ( (Get-PSSnapin -Name Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell) -eq $null )
    Write-Host "Failed to load sharepoint snap-in. Could not proceed further, Aborting ..."
    Exit
    #Script settings
    $webUrl = "http://sampleWebUrl"
    $docLibraryName = "My Documents"
    $docLibraryUrlName = "My%20Documents"
    $localFolderPath = get-childitem "C:\Upload\Test Upload\My Documents\" -recurse
    $contentType = "ContenttType1"
    #Open web and library
    $web = Get-SPWeb $webUrl
    write-host "Web:" $web
    $docLibrary = $web.Lists[$docLibraryName]
    write-host "docLibrary:" $docLibrary
    $files = ([System.IO.DirectoryInfo] (Get-Item $localFolderPath)).GetFiles()
    write-host "files:" $files
    If ($contentType = "ContenttType1")
    #Open file
    $fileStream = ([System.IO.FileInfo] (Get-Item $file.FullName)).OpenRead()
    # Gather the file name
    $FileName = $File.Name
    #remove file extension
    $NewName = [IO.Path]::GetFileNameWithoutExtension($FileName)
    #split the file name by the "-" character
    $FileNameArray = $NewName.split("_")
    $check = $FileNameArray.Length
    #Add file
    $folder = $web.getfolder($docLibrary.rootFolder.URL)
    write-host "Copying file " $file.Name " to " $folder.ServerRelativeUrl "..."
    $spFile = $folder.Files.Add($folder.Url + "/" + $file.Name, [System.IO.Stream]$fileStream, $true)
    $spItem = $spFile.Item
    write-host "Success"
    write-host "SP File:" $spFile
    write-host "SP Item" $spItem
    #populate columns
    $spItem["Column1"] = $FileNameArray[0]
    $spItem["Column2"] = $FileNameArray[1]
    $spItem.Update()
    $fileStream.Close();
    Again, I can run this on my local machine and it works just fine, but when I attempt to run it on the Azure environment I get this error...
    Get-Item : Cannot find path 'C:\powershellscripts\12653_B7045.PDF' because it does not exist.
    At C:\PowerShellScripts\Upload-FilesIntoSharePointTester.ps1:32 char:42
    +     $files = ([System.IO.DirectoryInfo] (Get-Item $localFolderPath)).GetFiles()
    +                                          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        + CategoryInfo          : ObjectNotFound: (C:\powershellscripts\12653_B7045.PDF:String) [Get-Item], ItemNotFoundException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PathNotFound,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.GetItemCommand
    What strikes me first is the fact that the file its looking for is in the "C:\Upload\Test Upload\My Documents\" directory, but the error keeps saying "C:\powershellscripts\" which is where my script resides and not the files I want to
    upload into SharePoint. When I step through the code, all the variables are holding the correct values. The $localFolderPath shows the name of files that I am attempting to upload, so it recognizes them. But once I step through this particular line of code,
    the error occurs...
    $files = ([System.IO.DirectoryInfo] (Get-Item $localFolderPath)).GetFiles()
    Is this an error caused because I am remoting into the Azure environment? Has anyone dealt with this issue before? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks
    Update: quick thing I noticed is that these two lines of code are returning null values. Again, is this handled differently in Azure or remotely? I ask cause this is the way I know how to do this, locally.
    $docLibrary = $web.Lists[$docLibraryName]
    $files = ([System.IO.DirectoryInfo] (Get-Item $localFolderPath)).GetFiles()

    "...square brackets are wildcard characters in Windows PowerShell..."
    When you use cd without a parameter it uses the -Path parameter. In this case you'll have to escape the square brackets so they are not considered wildcards. Each of the commands in the first example does the exact same thing.
    cd 'Learn PowerShell `[Do Whatever`]'
    cd -Path 'Learn PowerShell `[Do Whatever`]'
    cd (or Set-Location) also has a literal path parameter (-LiteralPath) that does not require using an escape character (`) before each of the brackets. Hope this helps.
    cd -LiteralPath 'Learn PowerShell [Do Whatever]'

  • What is the "Shared" section in Finder? Can the PC listed there access my MacBook?

    There is a "Shared" section in Finder with a PC listed in it.  Specifically, it's a notebook computer that shares my WiFi.  Why is that PC there? Can someone using that PC access my MacBook? Do I need to set up some password security? Or can I just get rid of that apparent connection?

    The PC is listed because it has its file sharing turned on and is connected to your network.
    File sharing on your Mac is controlled with System Preferences > Sharing.
    To turn file sharing on/off, first unlock the pane by clicking on lock icon and entering your admin password.  Then you can check or un-check File Sharing.  When File Sharing is selected from the Service list you can add or remove folders to share and edit permissions to those folders.  Click on the (?) button for more info.
    Always remember to relock the pane when you are finished.

  • What is the functional difference between the /Shared Items and the /Users/Shared folders?

    Can someone shed some light on the difference, intended functionality between the /Shared Items and the /Users/Shared folders?

    do any/all network services use the Shared Items folder?
    Not all services use it. Time Machine Server does, and I'm not sure which others. FTP is not controlled by Server.app.

  • What is "owner-pc-vaio". its in my shared column in Finder. would another computer using my wifi show up in the shared column?

    what is "owner-pc-vaio". its in my shared column in Finder. would another computer using my wifi show up in the shared column?

    If you're in a hotel, school, or someplace with public WiFi access, you'll see a list of all other computers on the network.
    As opposed to the answers above, with or without sharing on, you will see others on the network and they can see you.  As long as you have sharing off, and even then, they'd not have unrestricted acces unless you disabled all password access, they can see you but they can't do anything.
    If you're on your own private network, someone is stealing your bandwidth.  Since it's a piece of junk Windows computer, you can find out how to send them a nasty virus over a LAN.

  • Viewing items in Finder full screen

    I seem to remember reading somewhere that when viewing finder items in cover flow (at least I think it was in cover flow), you could make the item appear full screen size, or at least very large.
    Is this right? If so how?
    Thanks!
    DanK

    I believe you mean the slide show. select some items in Finder (in any view not just coverflow) and enter commandoptiony. this will get you to the slideshow view. you can also use Quicklook by hitting the space bar.

  • Broken Shared List in Finder

    I'm on Snow Leopard (10.6.8) in a last-generation MacBook Pro and having trouble with the Shared list in Finder. A few months ago, it stopped showing the server on the network at work. I see corworker computers still and can connect via Cmd+K, but it used to detect the server and allow one-click access. It's not a major inconvenience, but I'd like to know if there's any setting I'm missing. My coworkers' computers show the server just fine. I had to install a client's VPN client around the time this issue came up, but I'm not sure that's it. Any ideas?

    There is an user appearing in my finder's sidebar (under "shared") as well.
    Already activated the firewall, encrypted my home folder, all connections are blocked and the sharing feature has everything unchecked. I can still see him as "my guest".
    My computer warned me twice about "somebody using my IP Address" , but I'm an ordinary user. Hence, don't have any "profound" knowledge whatsoever (meaning, there are a bunch of things I don't know how to use or interpret)
    I don't know what measures to take if any. Is there anything else I can do to block my uninvited guest?

  • TS5437 Should a computer list itself in the Shared section in finder?

    I turned on File Sharing and Screen Sharing on both my iMac and MacBook to enable "Back to My Mac." However, my iMac will list itself in the shared section in Finder, but my MacBook doesn't list itself in its Finder.

    So I use this from home, so I just have my computer running to my AirPort Extreme, then to my modem from the DSL company.
    Does that mean I changed some setting in my Network system preference to cause this to appear?
    Is there anything it is used for? Can I connect do it and do anything?
    Can I remove it somehow?
    Thanks again-
