Shared Libraries and personal security

Have there been any security issues with Shared Libraries?

Not sure if this will help. But here is my story. We have home network with my spouse's IMac and my HP Elite Windows 7 64 PC on the network. The IMac detected the ATV and sync'd with it. My Win 7 PC would not detect it.
Call/chats with HP, Microsoft, Apple and Costco Concierge all failed to solve this problem. HP and Apple wanted $70 to have their "experts" diagnose it.
After fiddling with this for weeks, my spouse said "don't you know only one PC can be connected at a time?!! I learned that Apple TV can only detect or sync with one PC at a time. When the IMac was disconnected to the Apple TV, my Windows 7 PC did detect the Apple TV when I Tunes was launched. Simple solution. Glad I did not pay HP or Apple TV $70-80 to diagnose this problem.
I told all four support lines that we had a IMac on the network and it did detect the Apple TV. But NONE of them seem to know that the ATV can connect to a local area network PC one at a time. Amazying. But now it is solved.

  • How can i remove shared libraries and itunes

how can i remove shared libraries and itunes account from my iphone to my little brothers itouch if we both share the same itunes?
he keeps on getting all the apps that i download as well as pictures i was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this problem

You could either remove the iCloud account altogether and have him create his own or go into settings->store-> and switch automatically download Apps off.  And go into icloud and turn off photostream.  Depends on what you prefer.

  • Best Practice for External Libraries Shared Libraries and Web Dynrpo

Two blogs have been written on sharing libraries with Web Dynpro DC, but I would
like to know the best practice for doing this.
External libraries seem to work great at compile time, but when deploying there is often an error related to the external library not being a deployed component.
Is there a workaround for this besides creating a shared J2EE library which I have been able to get working?  I am not interested in something that works, but really
what are the best practice for this. What is the best way to  limit the number of jars that need to be kept in a shared library/ext library.  When is sharing ref service/etc a valid approach vs. hunting down the jars in the portal libraries etc and storing in an external library.

Security is mainly about mitigation rather than 100% secure, "We have unknown unknowns". The component needs to talk to SQL Server. You could continue to use http to talk to SQL Server, perhaps even get SOAP Transactions working but personally
I'd have more worries about using such a 'less trodden' path since that is exactly the areas where more security problems are discovered. I don't know about your specific design issues so there might be even more ways to mitigate the risk but in general you're
using a DMZ as a decent way to mitigate risk. I would recommend asking your security team what they'd deem acceptable.

  • Shared mailbox and personal mailbox showing identical content in Outlook

I have one user on Outlook 2010 who has Full Access permissions to a shared mailbox. In OWA, everything looks fine, but in Outlook, the shared mailbox shows the contents of her personal mailbox instead of the content of the shared mailbox.
If she views the shared mailbox's Inbox, it shows her the contents of her own Inbox instead of the shared mailbox. If she attempts to view the shared mailbox's Calendar, it shows her nothing at all. There are no error messages.
I configured a separate Mail profile (via Control Panel) for the shared mailbox, and that works fine also.
I deleted her Mail profile and all cached Outlook data, then created a new profile, and let Outlook recache all the data. Same problem.
Any ideas what is going on or how to fix it?

    Finally some moderately helpful info:
The end user logs into a computer on an untrusted, foreign AD domain (domain2.com) using an account from that domain. She then logs into her Exchange mailbox in Outlook using her domain.com account.
Every domain2.com computer she logs into gives her the same random mailbox mirroring problem.
I had her log into Outlook on a computer on domain.com located in my office and leave it running for 3 days. Every time her Outlook client on her regular computer would start or stop mirroring mailboxes, she would let me know, and I'd check the computer
in my office and find no problem.
So the problem is something in the foreign domain or something that that domain's administrators are doing to the computers. Unfortunately, several other people on that domain are using mailboxes and shared mailboxes on my Exchange servers in the exact same
configuration and are not having this problem. It is only this one user.
I am pretty sure they are not using roaming profiles. I know they are not using mandatory profiles.

  • Clarification regarding Shared services and essbase security

    Hi,
Sorry for the silly doubt. We have shared services to manage security, essbase v 9
    1. to assign calc access for users, do i assign calc scripts under databases in group security and assign users to groups in shared services or do it via access control in shared services?
    2. If in shared services i havent given calc access but in eas user belongs to a group with that particular calc script access, which would take precedence?
    Regards,
    N shah

In shared services, when i click on a particular application under the essbase server under the projects folder, there are cases where there are no users or groups under the 'available users and groups'. Why is this so? groups and users are supposed to be there.
Also, in a different application, i saw one available user. however when i try to provide calc access. its not changing anything. I select the calc script and then click the check mark. however nothing changes. The calc access for the user is specified as none. When i login to excel with the same user id, i can see all the calc scripts available for the user. Where are the details being picked up from.??

  • My iTunes does not see shared libraries and is not connectable

I am using Comodo Firewall on Windows 7 x64. I have a mac mini with no sharing and an iMac with sharing of iTunes libraries enabled.
The mini is able to see and read the library of the iMac, while the iTunes on Windows 7 isn't able to see any library at all.
The mini is also not able to see nor read the library of the Windows pc.
I have opened ports 3689 and 5353 on Comodo firewall and iTunes is a 'trusted application'. ICMP is also not blocked (not sure it is allowed).
The mini and the imac are on wireless, the windows pc is wired.
Does anyone have an idea what I am missing?

Try to turn both the computer and phone off then turn them both back on..once the computer starts, try to go to iTunes first then connect your phone to it. If it still doesn't pop up, u might have to uninstall iTunes then reinstall it. This happened to me before.

  • Shared libraries and archive

Does anyone know if it's possible to convert a shared library into an archive file?
I'd like to generate a static binary. However, some of the libraries that come with Solaris are only available in shared library format.
    TIA,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,
I have not tested this one but I found the previous answer somebody from Sun posted regarding this question.
I am enclosing this for you:
You can create an archive library from a shared library. Following is an example for libCstd library -
    CC -G -z allextract /opt/SUNWspro/WS6/lib/libCstd.a -h libCstd.so.1 -o libCstd.so.1 -lCrun
    ln -s libCstd.so.1 libCstd.so
The above may not work if the archive library is built without the -Kpic

  • Front Row, Shared Libraries and Cover Art.

I have my Macbook connected to my audio system and I share files between my Macbook and iMac. When playing files that are in the shared library (the files located on my iMac), most of the time the cover art doesn't show. Why is that?
I have noticed that the files where the Covert Art doesn't show up are files where the art was obtained through the iTunes store. The files where I have manually found the cover art work fine.
    iMac 24", 2.16GHZ, 500GB & Macbook 2.0 GHZ, 80GB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    iMac 24" 2.16GHZ & Macbook 2.0 GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

iTunes 7 does not embed artwork that it downloads, it stores it seperately.
You can embed it by applying it through the Get Info window. To do this:
    1. Ctrl-click on the picture in the lower left and select copy.
    2. Open preview and hit command-n to create a new file from the clipboard.
    3. Save the file to the desktop.
    4. Select all of the tracks on the album, ctrl-click on one and select "Get Info".
    5. Drag the picture from the desktop onto the artwork box.
You can also use a third party tool such as Curator or CoverScout.

  • Shared libraries AND private music folders?

I have had my iTunes set up using a Shared folder for about three years now with great success being shared across 4 users on one Mac. Each user has their own iTunes folder and their own iTunes library. The iTunes Music folder is an alias (link) back to a folder by the same name in my Shared user account. As content gets added, I periodically run "Add to Library..." from the other accounts to pick up the new content.
Now enter a maturing high school freshman daughter who needs to add a whole bunch of stuff I don't want access to. Namely, she has Berlitz German and Spanish language CD's that provide THOUSANDS of words - each as a separate audio track and each with a photo of that word stored as Album Artwork. So now, not only do I have thousands of 2 second tracks such as "pero" and "nacht", but my Coverflow has thousand of pictures of these objects. In addition, she has also started using GarageBand to make her own music, which also makes it's way into my previously pristine and well-managed shared Music Library.
So, the question is, how can I allow a user to have BOTH read/write access to Shared Music Folder, AND have access to private Music folders within their account?
    Thanks for the suggestion

No, but you can make a second copy of the song file, and have each library only see its own.

  • Shared libraries and Private tags

My son and I share the same iTunes library on an external drive. Each of us has his own library (.itl) and xml files located in our home folder/music/itunes pointing to the external drive for the physical files.
Most of our tags are common (artist name, song name...) but some others ned to remain "private" like the genre tag. If he tags a song "Rock", I may tag it "Alternative" for ex. The problem is that every time that any of us changes the genre tag, it's reflected in the other library as well.
I'm afraid this is the case because of ID3 tags. Is there a way to keep the tags "private"?

No, but you can make a second copy of the song file, and have each library only see its own.

  • Shared development directory with shared libraries

    file:///hostname/dir/dir/file.doc
/i/file.doc  and #IMAGE_PREFIX#file.doc  // copied file to the linux images directory to testBut none of the following allows you to access the file (nothing pops up). All users have it mapped to the J: drive on their local machine. Offsite access isn't required.Browser? Version?
Basically file:http:security on most modern browsers won't allow you to access <tt>file:</tt> scheme URLs from an <tt>http:</tt> scheme site. Doing so is seen as a violation of the same origin policy.
Locate the file in the database or on a web server file system and access it using <tt>http:</tt>.

  • ITunes shared libraries

I'm struggling with AppleScript & iTunes and need help from your AppleScript gurus. I want a script that will connect to a shared library and play a song (I download podcasts on my desktop PC, but want to play them on the machine connected to my receiver in the living room), but I don't see anything in the iTunes dictionary that permits me to do that. Curiously, the shared libraries don't even appear in the list of sources nor any of the playlists in those sources until you click on one of the shared libraries in the iTunes UI.
I've even been playing around with clumsy attempts to simulate clicking on the libraries with something like the function, getSharedLibraries, at the end of this post which goes through, connects to the shared libraries and returns whether it found any shared libraries or not.
    A couple of questions:
    1. This seems like a really clumsy way of accomplishing what I was trying to achieve. Seems like I shouldn't have to resort to "enable access for assistive devices" and interfacing with the "System Events". Does someone know a better way to do this via AppleScript using only the iTunes dictionary?
    2. This seems to be conditional on the iTunes state. E.g., if I've got the album artwork window in the lower left corner, then the reference to "splitter group 1" becomes "splitter group 1 of splitter group 1". Is there an easy way to test for this?
    3. This works fine when I run it from the AppleScript editor (or create an app or whatever), but when I try invoking this from the script menu in iTunes (by installing the script in ~/Library/iTunes/Scripts), this doesn't work anymore. Why is that?
    on getSharedLibraries()
        activate application "iTunes"
        tell application "System Events"
            tell process "iTunes"
                set shared to false
-- if album art is showing, change ref to "splitter group 1" with
-- "splitter group 1 of splitter group 1":
repeat with the_row in every row of outline 1 of scroll area 1 of splitter group 1 of window 1
                    -- figure out the name
set the_name to value of static text 1 of the_row
-- the menu we look for to switch off connecting
                    -- (localised?)
if ((the_name is "PLAYLISTS") or (the_name is "GENIUS")) then
                        return shared
                    end if
                    if shared then
-- show the context menu ...
                        perform action "AXShowMenu" of the_row
-- ... and then dismiss it
                        key code {49}
                    end if
-- the menu we look for to switch on connecting
                    if the_name = "SHARED" then
                        set shared to true
                    end if
                end repeat
            end tell
        end tell
    end getSharedLibraries

Pierre, many thanks for your assistance.
Actually, I didn't investigate if that could be done using only the iTunes dictionary. But I suppose that Paul Mison wouldn't have resorted to GUI Scripting if he hadn't been forced to. GUI Scripting is often the only way to go. That's better than nothing. Does enabling access for assistive devices cause a problem?
No, as far as I know "enabling access for assistive devices" doesn't cause a problem. It feels like I'm weakening security by doing so, but I've got nothing to substantiate that concern. (If there's no reason not to leave it on, why does Apple give you the option of turning it off, to say nothing of defaulting to it off.) But my apprehension of GUI scripting is that it's fragile (e.g., if you look at Paul's original script, it's broken by the introduction of Genius lists, something I corrected in my script), relies on something other than the iTunes developers intended programmatic interface (and thus easily broken in future releases), possibly is susceptible to problems arising from language localization settings, requires iTunes to be in a certain visual status (e.g., not minimized), requires you to tweak you accessibility settings, etc. It's just a kludgy way of solving a problem. But, you're quite right, it's better than nothing.
Yes. You could use the following lines of codes ...
Many thanks. I'm a little new to AppleScript (used to be PC guy and controlled iTunes through COM interface, which incidentally suffers from the same "shared libraries" problem as AppleScript), so this helps a lot.
I had no problem running the script from the “Scripts iTunes” section of the Script menu. However, in Mac OS X, the script file must be put into ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/iTunes/, not into ~/Library/iTunes/Scripts.
Hmm, I'm confused. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and when I've got it in the ~/Library/iTunes/Script library, I see the scripting menu right in iTunes (between the "Window" and "Help" menus). When I just moved them into ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/iTunes/, and restarted iTunes, there was no scripting menu in iTunes. Moved it back to ~/Library/iTunes/Script, and the scripting menu appeared again.
As an aside, when in ~/Library/iTunes/Script, all of my scripts that simply "tell iTunes" work fine. But when I invoke this particular script (or, more accurately, have some AppleScript code that actually invokes this getSharedLibraries function) from the scripting menu in iTunes, it freezes at the "tell application System Events" line, eventually timing out. Consider this simplified test script:
display dialog "before communicating to System Events"
        tell application "System Events"
display dialog "inside tell application System Events"
        end tell
        display dialog "all done"
When I invoke this from iTunes, I see the first dialog message, but it times out ("AppleEvent timed out") before getting to the second dialog message. When I invoke the script from the same directory from the AppleScript editor, it works fine and I see all three dialog boxes. It's behaving like you can't "talk" to "System Events" when invoking the script from the script menu in iTunes itself. It's curious.

  • Shared "libraries"/mltple computers wireless networked to shared hard drive

I really spent some time researching this question prior to posting. My goal is to have three computers (mine, wife's,kid's) all accessing a single hard drive on which all of our combined music is stored with iTunes on each computer seeing our whole library of music, then all of us can create playlists, sync to varous nano's, shuffles, etc. Hard drive is all set up, wireless access is set, all three computers can access various other shared files on the hard drive. All three computers have been "mapped" so that they look at this new Z drive, so I went through Edit/Pref/Advanced/General and changed each computer to look at this new Z drive versus their own C: drive/Music folder etc. Then I went through Advanced, Consolidate on one computer to put all of our music that used to be on one individual computer's hard drive and successfully moved it out to the new shared, wirelessly accessable Z drive.
Now, I want to be able to add new songs to that Z drive, ideally from any individual computer and have all other computers "see" those new songs that are now out on the Z drive. I have gone around the house and tested adding via CD's new songs from each computer to the new shared Z drive and that works. However, each of the individual iTunes libraries do not see the new songs.....is there some way that each computer's iTunes could update itself so that it recognizes that there are new songs out on the shared hard drive??? If so, I can't seem to figure out how to make it work.
Also, on Edit/Preferences/Sharing...I have selected and checked "Look for shared libraries" and also selected/checked "share my library on local network"....and selected/checked "share entire library"....and I have done this on each indvidual computer, but I am not sure if those are the right selections/checks to achieve my goals. Is this what I should do on each computer?? In the blank "Shared name:" I typed "iTunesShared" which is the name of the file that I created on the shared hard drive and I did this on each computer in each individual iTunes program. Is this what I should be doing??
Finally, on one of the computers (the computer that I have been currently using to add CD's to our shared hard drive) under Library, on the left hand column...there is a heading called "Shared" and under that heading it lists two subheadings - one called "Owners's music" and the other called "Susan's music" - and those seem to turn off and on if I have one of the other two computers logged on and its iTunes program launched. If I go to one of the other computers and shut down iTunes on it, one of those subheadings will disappear. Also, with iTunes launched on the two other computers - I see under the "Shared" heading the "iTunesShared" heading and if I click on it, iTunes is then looking at the Z drive with all of the our songs stored on it....but the other two computers can only see this file if the computer that I have been downloading songs from is launched....i.e., the only way all three computers can see the Z drive with our full song library on it is if just one of the other computers is up, running and has iTunes launched.
Again, my goal here is to have all three computers iTunes be looking at the Z drive so that they would have access to our full library of songs...so, any ideas how I can make that happen or what I have done wrong here?? I think I am closing to figuring this out but am now stuck. Any advice or guidance would be much appreciated.
    thanks,

Seems like you have things set up right. You may be disappointed though.
Each account on each computer is separate as far as libraries go. Even if all are set to save to the same location, like yours, the different libraries do not see each other. The library files for each user are basically just shortcuts to where the tracks are, so even if 5 users add the file to their own library there will be media file.
What this means is that adding files with one, the others will not know it. There is no setting available to change this behavior. Each user must add the files to their own library using the 'add folder' or 'add file' options.
Is that everything? You had a big post.

  • Shared Libraries Not Working

This problem has just come up recently and for no apparent reason as far as I can tell.
I'm at college and a lot of people in the dorm, including myself, have our iTunes libraries set to share. This has worked fine for months now until a few days ago. For whatever reason I can no longer see shared libraries and mine isn't being shared.
Topics I've seen before talk about the iTunes store, and that works fine with me. I do have the proper boxes checked. It isn't being blocked by the firewall, and the problem occurs even with the firewall off.
I haven't done anything to my iTunes recently other than adding a few cd's and syncing my iPod. I haven't done anything major to my comp. at all either. Can't figure out why it isn't working recently.

Quite possible it could be a firewall issue maybe? I've had firewall software update itself and then start blocking things that had previously been allowed. Just a thought...

  • Shared libraries in Photos 1.0

My wife and I have traditionally shared a single library in iPhoto (stored on an external drive). Can we continue to do so in Photos? Are there any complications when it comes to shared libraries and iCloud Photo Library? (I could just plow ahead and try it out, but it'd be my head if I did anything to compromise our existing  library of family photos.) Tips from more adventurous upgraders most welcome.

You can certainly create a library on an external drive or have multiple libraries, though only one (system library) will sync with iCloud Photo library, though I assume that is per user - not sure how it might affect things if you are using differernt iCloud credentials.
