Shared Libraries Won't Play

I can see the shared libraries on the other 2 Macs on my home WiFi network, but the songs won't play.
Also - one of the Mac's libraries won't show on the others, even though library sharing is turned on.
Any help?

It has to do with how I was transscoding the videos. Handbrake tags the videos in a way that makes it impossible to play in Windows. Retagging with a program like MetaX will solve the issue.

  • Shared movie won't play

I downloaded several movies from another family member.  They show up in my videos, when I go to play them it says "This movie is no longer share with you."

Just another datapoint to add...I tried a few different things yesterday and I can get the following files to play:
    1. Free Downloaded video from iTunes (Horton hears a Who - Anatomy of a Scene)
    2. Digital Movie (Bolt) that requires some authorization from the iTunes store.
The movies that won't stream from one XP box to the other XP box are all encoded using Handbrake (they work fine going to the AppleTV though.) I'm wondering if it has something to do with DRM or specific tags/metadata that needs to be included in the encode.
Also, this is something new for me (i.e. I haven't tried sharing libraries or streaming from one iTunes instance to another prior to upgrading iTunes to 8.1) My daughter got a laptop and we wanted to keep all of our media in one shared location in the house. Hopefully this will work at some point.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Mapped Drive to a OS X Shared Folder won't play purchased videos in iTunes

I have a MacBook Pro sharing out a folder where all my purchased movies are stored. I've got a Vista box to which I've added the full library. All the music has shown up, but none of the movies or TV shows. They won't play from the shared directory.
If I move the files locally, they play fine, so there must be some permissions issue with the files. I can read/write to the directory.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • One of my shared libraries won't show on my iPad

I have activated home sharing on my MacBook Air and my IPAD and one library shows up and the other doesn't when i go into the Music icon on the Ipad.  Any suggesstions. The shared libraries show up just fine on the Macbook Air no matter which library I'm in.

    Welcome to the discussions, Pupnkit.
It looks like Fast Start has not been enabled for that vid (if you wait long enough, it DOES finally appear). If you've got QuickTIme Pro, you can open the video then "Save As..." in order to re-activate it. If you don't, then you can get Lilipot that does the same thing.

  • Movies in Shared Library won't play

I have several home movies in .MOV, .MP4 and .M4V formats shared through my library.
I can copy the actual video file from all 3 formats to the other computers and they play fine - thus all Codecs are working as they should.
The list of movies appears fine. But I hit the Play button but nothing happens. It pauses for a few seconds and then acts as if I never hit the button.
    Music plays fine.
Other computers are running latest version of iTunes, downloaded from Apple Dec 29 and Dec 30, 2009. One runs Vista and the other runs Win7. Host computer (iTunes server) is running Snow Leopard.

None yet. Please report it to apple.

  • Shared videos won't play because the 'operation could not be completed'. Solutions?

I have recently shared some videos with some friends over iCloud photo share but they will not play because 'the operation could not be completed'. Is there a solution for this other than deleting and starting again?

    mc,
In your first post you stated:
I checked permissions and nothing came up wrong.
Did you accomplish that by using "Repair Disk Permissions" in Disk Utility, or did you actually check the "Ownership & Permissions" of your Desktop Folder using the "Get Info" command in the Finder?
Click on your Desktop in Macintosh HD>Users>yourusername, and then choose Finder>File>Get Info. Under "Ownership & Permissions," it should say "You can {Read & Write}."
If that is not selected, then change it to "You can {Read & Write}."
    ;~)

  • Shared Video Won't Play In Windows

    Hi
Can anyone help please? iTUNES 7.1.1
I do not seem to be able to play any shared Videos (from another machine) on a Windows Machine. I can play the same shared video on a MAC.
I have tried the share from another windows machine and a MAC with no difference. You can see the video listing but nothing happens when you press play.
If I load the same video on the local machine all is well, it plays perfectly.
What am I missing or doing wrong?
    Cheers Malcolm

  • Windows iTunes won't play video from shared libraries

    Hey guys.
There are 4 computers with itunes in my house. I have a MBP and a Mac Mini with 10.6.4. Also, my brothers have 2 PCs with Windows 7.
I store my media on the Mac, but would like to share it with them thru iTunes on the other PCs. So, we all set up library sharing and updated to iTunes on all machines to 10.0.1.
Problem is: The windows PCs can't play any shared video.
Whether it's from Mac or PC, iTunes on the Windows PCs can't stream any videos from any of the other 3 shared libraries. The Macs do it fine from the other sources, Windows PCs don't.
All that being said, the Windows PCs do play video in their own libraries. Just not Shared ones.
As I said, all 4 PCs have the latest OSs, iTunes and QT. Any ideas?

My play lists and songs on iTunes and on my iPhone won't play.  They are light grey instead of black and nothing happens when I click on the songs.  All of the songs were either from CD's or from iTunes that I purchased. I have home sharing turned on. This is a new issue.  It used to work fine.  I tried restarting my iPhone and syncing with iTunes. Neither worked.  Please help!

Try delete those songs using iTunes by de-selecting and sync. After that mark those songs and sync again.

  • HT2688 Having updated to iOS7, I am unable to upload a video to shared stream but when I do, it won't play on any device other than the one used to upload ... help

Having updated to iOS7, I am unable to upload a video to shared stream but when I do, it won't play on any device other than the one used to upload ... help please

I also have this problem, as does everybody else I know who has tried to use the video in icloud. As the original poster says, they can be uploaded, but will only play on the device from which they were originally uploaded, appeaering only as images which display an endless buffering symbol when "played" on any other devices with which the photostream is shared.
Has anyone been able to get this to work? And if not, why is there no acknowledgement from Apple that this bug exists and will be addressed in an update (now running 7.0.2 and still no improvement)? It was, after all, advertised as one of the attractive new features of iOS 7. So why the stony silence?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Choose a playlist to shuffle instead of your whole library

  • My itune's songs won't play on my iPad while using home sharing

I have the New iPad. As soon as I got it, I activated the home sharing on my notebook's itunes (I use Windows 7), and it was working ok. Recently, I had to format my notebook. Then, I reinstalled itunes and re-activated the home sharing, but there's something wrong. My song library shows up on my ipad, but when I try to play them, they won't play. No sound comes out, and the player bar won't go further than 0:00 secs. I tried reseting the app and rebooting the iPad. Other sounds (eg videos, internet etc) are being played normally. What could be wrong?

Make sure the anti virus or fire wall isnt blocking it make sure on itunes you have the comptuer authorized
-Itunes>Advanced/Store>authorize computer>Turn on home sharing and make sure the apple id is the same as whats on the ipad as well.

  • Itunes shared libraries plays intermitently

I have 2 iMAC's and share my Itunes with the other iMAC. It sees the library okay, starts okay, plays several songs then just quits. I can restart playing another song but then it quits again. No rhyme or reason to how long or how many songs before this happens. Any suggestions on what to check?

Another added observation as this problem continues. Many times the computer playing the shared library will be playing and I noticed when it stops the song it stops on has an exclamation point in front of it which generally indicates Itunes can't locate it. Yet when I go back to the base machine and click on it it finds and starts up.
Seems to me whatever mechanism indexes all the songs on the home machine may be corrupted. Is there a way to re-find all the songs so iTunes knows where they are?

  • ITunes won't show shared libraries nor will it show iPhone as a device

This is baffling me and I would welcome some assistance. ITunes doesn't show any Shared Libraries/Devices
    1. iTunes will not show 2 shared libraries that can be seen by another computer (PC) running iTunes on the same home network
    2. Using my iPhone I cannot get the Remote app to work; iTunes doesn't seem to recognise my iPhone, although they are both on the same network (verified)
    3. When running 'Bonjour Browser' I can't locate "cciphonethings.tcp" as per the 'Things' support site for iPhone/iMac sync
    4. iTunes will sync OK with my iPhone when I place the iPhone in it's cradle
I've followed the advice in Apple support and also followed the checks suggested by the Things support site. I've also reinstalled iTunes. No change.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
To answer your question, the cpu speed is 550MHz.
Thought so. It seems like PowerBooks from about that era (550, 667) are the most likely to have this problem. I've never seen any definitive explanation, though. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it's a combination of hardware and software and how iTunes interacts with the CD drive.
One thing you could do is send a bug report to Apple via their online form.
    best,
    charlie
