Shared Library only partially available

I share my library across our network of XP computers, along with several others. Sharing, in general, works fine. However, when others view my library, they can see all the songs but only play the most recent additions.
I can see and play all tracks when I'm at my computer.
All music is ripped as Apple Lossless and is on an external USB drive.
I've re-imported and consolidated, but it has not fixed the problem.

I know that the shared computer you are trying to listen the music on must be on iTunes.  It makes no sense, however, if the OTHER computer which hosts the library also has to remain on all the time.  If that's necessary why not just listen to the host computer?

     4. Install win7 in your brand new virtual environment but after first step in the installation where it will reboot after unpacking the files - TURN OFF YOUR VIRTUAL MACHINE. You got 10 seconds to do that.
Failure to do so will mess up the install and you must start over.
I'm not sure if I should take a chance... Could you please explain step 4 a bit more detailed? Do I have to click on "reboot" (where?) and then within 10 seconds turn off the virtual machine? HOW would I do that? THANKS!

  • Library only partially uploaded?  And, where are all my albums?

I can't seem to find my entire photo library, and it looks like the titles no longer appear below the thumbprint of a photo and you can't sort by title anymore.  Is that correct and how do I go about finding all those photos? Do I need to do this again?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You will need to restore from the back up of the old phone to recover all your photos, enabling iCloud will only recover your photo stream photos.

  • ATV Shared Library Disconnects - only reconnects if i restart Itunes on ser

Help! I have recently tried to set up an all apple house, have itunes library running on macmini server shared (not via home sharing, but just via sharing) so that MacBook Pro, Apple TV etc can connect to the server library. Seemed to work fine, but recently the ATV "looses" the shared library. When i go into "Computers" I can see the shared library greyed out. If I click on it it only gives the option to disconnect, even though none of the shared folders are visable via the menus. If i close itunes on the server and then open it again it seems to reset the connection and the shared library is again available on the ATV, or if i disconnect and then reconnect as a new shared library it works but i dont want to have to do this every time i want to use the ATV - does anyone know why this is happening or have any ideas how to fix it? Thanks in advance for any advice (this is all new to me!!!!

  • HT204406 I download a song & then I try to drag it into a playlist & I get a warning "iCloud playlists can only contain songs from your iCloud music library. If you continue, my iPod will be removed from iCloud and will only be available on this computer.

I'm sorry to see that no one has answered this. I'm hoping Apple with reply to my support request, as I'm having the same issue. I really don't want to continue with iCloud at this point.

I made the mistake of resetting my iPod to factory defaults. Now it will only partially sync to my music library. I continually get an error message saying that certain songs are not authorized for my computer, although they are in the iTunes library on the computer and will play. It's these songs that won't transfer to the iPod. I have deauthorized and re-authorized the computer but no joy. Any ideas?

    Hello there DesertRat71,
I was thinking that some of the songs in your library may have been purchased under a different apple id. You have already done the first thing I would have done by de authorizing and re authorizing. To verify this, highlight one of the songs that will not sync over and use File>Get Info. Here is the help menu link for it if you need it help://bookmark='https://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/11.0/help/index.html?localePa th=English.lproj#itns2937'
In the Summary section there will be an Apple ID entry. If it shows something different than what you are currently using then I recommend signing into the Apple ID it shows and authorizing the computer for that one as well.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • I have an iphone 4s and when I try to connect it to my shared libraries; I get an icon of a circle that only fills up halfway.  I have an ipad and it connects to the shared library without a problem.  My library is much larger than the capacity of either

I have an iphone 4s and when I try to connect to my shared library I see an icon of a circle that only becomes half full.  It does not connect.  I also have an ipad, which connects without incident. My itunes library is larger than the capacity of both devices, so that cannot be the issue.  How can I get the phone to connect with my shared library?

My husband and I are using the same iTunes account on all mac & pc computers, but the libraries are different on each machine.  We always manually manage our music (no auto sync).  iTunes is up to date on the PCs.  My husband uses our joint iTunes account on his pc, but once again, has a different collection in his library from those on the other machines.  He can't load any music from his PC to his iphone 4.  I can load music from my mac library to my iphone 4s, but cannot load from my pc library to my iphone 4s.  How can I switch my main library that it syncs with from the mac to the pc?
    Thanks

  • HT204406 I authorized a second computer on my iTunes account, and downloaded my library from the Cloud to my new computer. However, many songs only partially downloaded, and now I'm having a hard time getting rid of them to do full downloads.

I authorized a second computer on my iTunes account and tried to get my first computer's library on my second computer via the Cloud. Many of the songs only partially downloaded, and I am having a hard time getting rid of the library with the partial downloads (so I can get full songs). I am considering nuking the current iTunes on the second computer and re-installing, giving myself a clean slate to work with. Is this the right way to go?

  • Songs from shared library not available

I have a base computer (XP) with Itunes set up. I manage my own library and have multiple directories. Everything shows up and runs fine on that computer.
However I have a laptop that I use to feed an Airport Express on my stereo. When I load the shared library from the base computer, everything shows up, but only a small fraction of the songs will play. They are all in one directory, while the bulk of my library will not play.
    Help

You can't copy songs from a library shared using the iTunes "Share my library" option. Libraries shared in this way will only let other people see and listen to the library. The songs can't be changed, copied or otherwise used by anyone other than the person who is sharing the library.

  • When I try to open the shared library on the 2nd computer (the one I want to xfer music to), the only songs that come up are those that are already in that same library (the library on the 2nd computer).  While I can see computer

When I try to open the shared library on the 2nd computer (the one I want to xfer music to), the only songs that come up are those that are already in that same library (the library on the 2nd computer).  While I can see computer #1 listed under 'shared,' when I click on it the only songs I can see are those that I already have on the 2nd computer.  Hopefully that makes sense.  Basically, the library from computer #1 isn't loading up.

  • List view only for shared library?

Could someone help please, i have a imac with all my content on it and i am using a mac mini in my living room, i have itunes9 and home sharing turned on but when i am viewing my imac library on my mac mini it only lets me view my music in list view no cover flow or column view, is this something i am doing wrong or does itune9 not allow this option thanx.

As soon as I finished typing my last reply and hit send - I realised that there is a workaround for your problem.
First, go into your iTunes preferences on your Mac Mini, and change the settings to NOT "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised", and NOT "Copy files to ITunes media folder when adding to library".
Now, share your iTunes folder through File Sharing on your iMac. Access this file share (not through iTunes), on your Mac Mini, and drag all of your content into your Mac Mini iTunes library.
This will add everything into the library as a shortcut, but not copy the actual files. This way, you can scroll through them all with Cover Flow, or Grid, as iTunes will think that they are local files, rather than a shared library.
    I hope this makes sense?

  • Only half of library shows in shared library

I want to transfer my itunes library to my new computer both PCs) so I turned on home sharing.  However, when I looked at the shared library on my old computer, it does not show my whole library but insteads shows all songs up to "i" but none later in the alphabet.  Looking at my new computer I see that these songs are the only ones to transfer.
How do I get my whole library to be shared?

Techhnically yes now there have been problems, but then I need to invest into an external hard drive etc.  I would still like to sort this as I feel that for future computers homesharing is still the most simple solution.

  • My apps, photos etc on my iPad are only partially backing up on iCloud. Anybody know why? It's only backing up 1.7GB even though I have 13GB of stuff on it.

My apps and everything on my iPad are only partially backing up to iCloud. It's only backing up 1.7 GB but I have 13GB of stuff on my iPad. I have 200GB of iCloud storage so I don't know what the issue is.

Apps are not part of the backup. In app data is, but backing up the apps would be redundant as they can be re-downloaded from the store for free. Media (music, movies, podcasts, etc.) are also not part of the backup for the same reason.
iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview
    What iCloud backs up
You have important information on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iCloud automatically backs up your device over Wi-Fi every day while it’s turned on, locked, and connected to a power source. With your device information backed up in iCloud, you can easily set up a new device or restore information on one you already have.
    Here’s what iCloud backs up:
Purchase history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksYour iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. Some types of content aren’t downloaded automatically in all countries, and previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the store. iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages

Your iOS device backup only includes data and settings stored on your device.
It doesn’t include data already stored in iCloud, for example contacts, calendars, bookmarks, mail messages, notes, shared photo albums, iCloud Photo Library beta, My Photo Stream, and documents you save in iCloud using iOS apps and Mac apps.

  • How do I download music from a shared library to an ipod?

So I shared my itunes library with my brothers macbook and it connected. Well now I need to know how to download my library on to my ipod from his computer. I can't do it from mine because my macbook is too old and I cannot afford an update. Please help!!

You can't. A shared library can only be played; you can't download from it nor sync from it. You must have the tracks on his computer to be able to sync them to your iPod.
If you have a MacBook, then you absolutely can get it to sync with any current iPod. If the Mac is still on Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you will need to upgrade your version of Mac OS X to 10.6 Snow Leopard so you can run iTunes 10.7, but Snow Leopard is still available from the Apple Store for around $20 if you call them.
