Shared MacBook is shown as White, not Black.

My Mother's and my Girlfriend's MacBooks (Both Black) see themselves (in Devices section of Finder Sidebar) as White, and my MacBook Pro sees them as White too.
I wouldn't ask this if it were not for there being a Black MacBook icon residing in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/com.apple.macb ook-black.icns
I'm wondering if perhaps this is just at the level of being an "Easter Egg" and there actually isn't a way for a BlackBook to work out (and tell other Macs) whether it should be seen as Black or Not Black, whether by serial number or what (I know that "MacBook2,1" isn't helpful as both models identify themselves as that)?

What versions of OS X are the black macbooks running? The icon is determined by the info that the macbook telling your machine what type of icon to display. Make sure the macbooks are updated to 10.5.2 and see if the problem persists. Good luck...

Inspiron screen turns white -- not black??

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with a newly installed GeForce Go 7900 GS card running 2.6.33-ARCH and xfce4. Instead of turning off the screen when the power manager says to, the screen goes bright white. Upon further inspection, I notice that "vbetool dpms off" and "xset dpms force off" also turn the screen white.
I don't care how the screen gets turned off (using a script or keybindings is fine), I just want to be able to turn the screen off when I leave my desk.

Others have complained of the screen not going off when the lid is closed, or the backlight not going off, or the screen not coming back after suspend. Although I have these problems, they are not my main concern. This problem also occurs in Ubuntu and I plan on trying Windows XP this weekend.

Apple said they would replace it--but it seems when they replace your phone you DON'T get a NEW one!! They use refurbished ones from the factory that have been rejected initially and then they get "refurbished" and pushed out. . .that kinda *****! I am almost tempted to keep the one I have and get caller ID so I can just figure out who called when the screen goes white and i can just call them back.

Music wont play on my ipod, but is still shown in grey(not black) text.

I got a new 4th generation ipod a few months ago and when i tried to put music onto it 95% of the songs are unplayable by my ipod, but all of my music was working on my 2nd generation ipod and in itunes. the songs that dont work are shown in grey text and the ones that do in black. all of the artists and albums are still displayed in black even if no songs in that folder work. Every now and then when i go to sync, an error message shows up and says that one of the songs couldnt be synced and then the sync ends. and ive fully updated is and even tried reseting the ipod and redownloading itunes.

There are a few things to check:
Make sure the blue tape has been removed from the nozzle plate.
Print a diagnostic page as shown in method 4 here. Does this page print color? If so the issue may be your driver settings. Check for a "Print in grayscale" setting and uncheck this box.

I bought a macbook pro retina ME665 in Dubai, and 3 month later its display stopped working properly.some white lines appeared on it and display itself became white and black. Can anybody suggest what should I do to fix this problem?

In October 2013 I was on Vacationin Dubai and bought there Macbook pro retina ME665. I returned to Kyrgystan (home town) and for New Year I was away for a week. When I came back i found that the dispaly of my laptop became white and black, some lines appeared on it. Everybody in my family told me that no one has dropped my laptop or done anything that can cause this problem. there is no any service provider of apple in my country. WIl, the international warranty cover this case? I bought this laptop not from apple store,but in a simple store and I lost reciept.

Hi - I have an iPhone 4 as well.
The problem is that the iPhone 4 only gets a sample of what is shown in the ios 7 videos. The iPhone 5, 5s and 5c can run those graphics, however the iPhone 4 can not. To get a "demo" of what it looks like, go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Increase Contrast and turn that toggle off. This will give your phone a slight transparency effect for notif and command center, however it is nowhere near what was shown in the vids.

HT1349 The iPhone 4S setting (white on black) it is so cool! But one thing that I don't know if Apple is aware of this glitch or not, but they need to fix it, when you go to that mode every picture and every icon go to negative view, has anyone experience

One very COOL feature on iPhone 4S that I just discovered, is the (White on Black) display mode, which is so cool and atrictive. When you go to that mode, every picture on the iPhone, facebook, icons and every other applications that displays a picture are effected, native or installed Apps. that displays a picture goes in to negative view, if you want to view your pictures, you have to go back to the default setting, very disappointing.
This is a very cool feature and Apple needs to find a way that all photos are immune and preserved from the conversion when a user switches to that mode.
Love to hear your comments and suggestions and I'm sure that Apple developers can come up with a solution to fix the glitch.

Hmmmm, http://www.seattlepi.com/ loads fine hear in 10.4.11, FF 3.6.8, but I do see it uses some kind of Flash.
The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a leter version installed.

Click on the Apple and then on about this Mac. In the new window, click on the "version 10.9.2" until you see the serial number displayed.

Print in Black and White, NOT GRAYSCALE!

I'm trying to print on my Mac in Black and White -- NOT grayscale. The printer I'm using is a thermal printer that prints on heat-sensitive card-stock (a DataMax E-4203 printer) and when I print bar-codes on there the edges of the bar-codes are "fuzzy" as the Mac tries to convert it into a grayscale image instead of a pure black-and-white image. With the edges being fuzzy instead of crisp, the bar-code scanner device I have simply cannot read the bar-codes. If I use the software on a Windows machine, it prints the bar-codes perfectly, because in Windows I can set the printer to be Black and White, instead of Grayscale..
So, on a Mac (Mac Pro, OS X 10.7.3) how do I set it to print in pure Black and White, not Grayscale?

You're taking a rather large loss on a new computer and spending the money on another one to fix one issue on an obscure piece of hardware? Do this instead.
1) Cancel the order on the Dell.
2) Use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac Pro. WAY less expensive to buy a copy of Win 7 to run on your Mac than the money you're planning to flush down the drain.
3) Get on the lazy butts of the company that make your thermal printer to write a Mac driver that has all of the same settings and features of the Windows driver. Which may not be easy as their site marks the printer you have as discontinued, though still supported.
DataMax has one heck of a crappy site. I've looked around a dozen pages and can't find something as simple as print drivers to download.
Yes, DataMax's web-site is awful... But they don't support the Mac at all, so even if their web-site was great, you'd never find Mac drivers to download... The Mac driver for this printer comes from a company called the Peninsula Group, and they write drivers for dozens of different thermal printers... They claim that they cannot write a driver that has all the features of the DataMax Windows driver, because of limitations of the CUPS printing system on the Mac... I claim that's B.S., but how am I going to prove otherwise?
I considered running the Mac in Windows BootCamp mode all the time -- but then what's the point in owning a Mac? Originally I was happy to be making the switch from PC to Mac... But everything (not just printing, but nearly everything I do) is more difficult on a Mac... Owning this machine has been the worst computing experience I've ever had... No joke.. I've never had such trouble doing what I want to do... Nothing works the way it should work. Nothing.
If I had been using Macs all along, then perhaps I'd feel differently... But everything is so different on a Mac, that I just can't seem to get used to it... For crying out loud, the Home and End keys don't even work right!! I hit End and I expect the cursor to go to the end of the LINE, not the end of the DOCUMENT! (End of the document is what Ctrl+End is for, dammit!) What the **** is up with that?! And scrolling is wrong, too... It scrolls up when I pull down on the mouse-scroll. Everything is backwards on the Mac... I've truly grown to hate it the more I use it... I'll not be buying another Mac, if I can help it... Wish I'd never bought this one... Call it a very expensive lesson learned...

Sounds as if you're having a problem with your GPU (graphics card). Only Apple can diagnose and fix this, so the best thing would be to take your machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP.
